If no more questions are asked the lovely barge packs up and begins to head back down the river

I am good to go, but the others are pretty quiet it seems.

Bharaz was indeed quiet. The information weighed on his mind. There was something very wrong in the mines, a problem which spoke to his heritage as a “sundered dwarf.” The fact that a dwarf was somehow involved in this made him all the more uneasy. As they traveled his silently prayed, hoping to push the worry away through the repetition of prayer.

Male Rockgnome Breachgnome 1, (AC: 4 | HP: 11/11 | THAC0: 20 | Infravision 60')

I'm here, but not interrupting all of you dwarf types.

Gloin shoulders his pack once more and says, "There is still some light. We should be on the move."

male Stout Halfling Fighter 1/Druid 1

Good to continue as well.

Guess we are good to go?

Male Rockgnome Breachgnome 1, (AC: 4 | HP: 11/11 | THAC0: 20 | Infravision 60')

Banzai!

Grand Lodge

Male Aasimar Wizard 18/ Rogue2

Yes sorry I had a post but apparently it got swallowed.

The followers were gathered and gear secured. They were eager to see where you all lead and thier packs seemed a bit more bulky. Foodstuffs, and equipment seemed to bulge from there packs awaiting you all to lead the way.

Off we go then?

Grand Lodge

Male Aasimar Wizard 18/ Rogue2

From lunch to evening

Percentile: 1d100 ⇒ 48
Encounter: 1d10 ⇒ 1

Nothing happens during the last half of the evening.

Evening setting up camp you all doing anything special.

Camping and watching it is - Akkramar can do any watch.

"I need my rest to be uninterrupted, but I can take the first watch." Gloin says.

Bharaz chuckled at that. With a smile smile he said. ”First watch ye say? Heh. Fine. I’ll hit the dirt then.” He proceeded to begin removing his armor, so that he could sleep while he could.

Male Rockgnome Breachgnome 1, (AC: 4 | HP: 11/11 | THAC0: 20 | Infravision 60')

"Same here. If I don't get a good night of sleep, I don't recover my spells."

It is settled then!

male Stout Halfling Fighter 1/Druid 1

"I don't mind taking the witching hour watch. It would be nice to be able to gaze at the stars without my feet rocking back and forth from the tides."

Grand Lodge

Male Aasimar Wizard 18/ Rogue2

so

Glion,Lindin
Tommy
Akkramar and Bharaz

is that right?

Male Rockgnome Breachgnome 1, (AC: 4 | HP: 11/11 | THAC0: 20 | Infravision 60')

Sure, as long as I get my beauty rest!

Sounds good.

Looks good to me.

Grand Lodge

Male Aasimar Wizard 18/ Rogue2

Are you doing any prep or protections? Spells, traps ect.

Bharaz is not. Not only does he lack long lasting spells, but he is new to all of this. He will devoutly pray before sleep and will dutifully watch when he is called to do so.

Akkrammar will spend his watch in hiding.

Male Rockgnome Breachgnome 1, (AC: 4 | HP: 11/11 | THAC0: 20 | Infravision 60')

Right, this is my first rodeo!

Grand Lodge

Male Aasimar Wizard 18/ Rogue2

okay lets make some rolls

3 watches

Encounter: 1d100 ⇒ 27
Watch: 1d3 ⇒ 2

Tommy go ahead and make any detection skills or if not a Wisdom Check, with lets say a +2 Bonus for being familiar with the wilds.

1 person marked this as a favorite.
male Stout Halfling Fighter 1/Druid 1

Wis check: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (17) - 2 = 15 vs DC 13 (or lower) (Wis score)

Grand Lodge

Male Aasimar Wizard 18/ Rogue2

Number appearing: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 1) = 9
HP: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Tommy your pack animals are being attacked by some sort of small flying animal, several small flying animals. Well small 3 foot long with 5 to six foot wingspans.

make an Animal Knowledge check

male Stout Halfling Fighter 1/Druid 1

At 3rd level Tommy will be able to identify plants, animals and pure water with 100% accuracy. His NWP proficiencies include Animal Handling (wis-based) but no specific animal knowledge skill (unless I missed something when I just checked), so base Int it will be.

Int check: 1d20 ⇒ 14 vs DC 15 (or lower) (his Int is 15) success!

"Wake up!!! Something's attacking the animals. Wake up!!!" Tommy yells to rouse his companions as he gets his sling into hand and stone in the other to load it.

Grand Lodge

Male Aasimar Wizard 18/ Rogue2

Tommy:
Bats

male Stout Halfling Fighter 1/Druid 1

"Wake up!! We're under attack!!" Tommy throws some of the water in his cup onto Bharaz's face and dumps the rest of the water in his cup onto Akkramar's face. "Wake up!!!"

Sputtering, Bharaz sat up, wiping the water from his face. He was unarmored, save for his helmet. Still, he reached for hammer and shield as he got to his feet. ”Who?! Where?!”

Akkramar jumps to his feet - "I'm awake!"

He draws his blades, and prepares for a fight!

@Critzible, are we in Combat rounds, initiative and all?

Grand Lodge

Male Aasimar Wizard 18/ Rogue2

I would do a group initiative, so whoever has the highest Reaction to get the best position. So a +5 would be Initative 1d10-5 it rolls a 6 you all get a 1 so go first

I will roll the numbers you guys give me the reaction number

Init: 1d10 ⇒ 9
Bats: 1d10 ⇒ 1

@Critzible: Are we using Standard Initiative or Optional Modifiers, like Weapon Speed etc? Or only Dex modifier?

If only Dex Reaction Modifier, I have a +2, which I guess means -2 on Init?

male Stout Halfling Fighter 1/Druid 1

Tommy has a 17 Dex, so that gives us a -3 to our initiative roll. As I doubt any of us have a -8 modifier, the bats are going first...or rather, they already did, since they attacked the animals. The round they started attacking Tommy acted - waking up Akkramar and Bharaz. Did the bats continue to attack the animals or have they not acted yet for the 'current' round?

Do the rest of us have a chance of hearing the screams or do we have to be woken up to act?

I am almost 100% sure a 17 means only -2 to Init when playing 2e.

Thanks for the catch. I like how they changed things in 3e when they came up with actual formulas to determine bonuses/penalties. (and not needing to have all the saving throw tables on hand).

BECMI (3) -3, (4-5) -2, (6-8) -1, (9-12) +0, (13-15) +1, (16-17) +2, (18) +3

Grand Lodge

Male Aasimar Wizard 18/ Rogue2

Yes Tommy wakes you up. You are surprised. So going last makes sense. you have Init 7

Bars continue to attack the livestock.

You guys can go

male Stout Halfling Fighter 1/Druid 1

Sling speed factor is 6.

"Gloin! Linden! WAKE UP!!" Tommy shouts as he loads his sling and flings the stone at one of the bats.

sling: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15

damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Combat numbers:

* Main Hand THACO: 20 (Base) -2 (Strength) -1 (weapon specialization) -1 (Enchantment) = 16
* APR: 1.5
* Main Hand Damage: 1d4+1 (Base) +5 (Strength) +2 (weapon specialization) +1 (Enchantment) = 1d4+9

* Off Hand THACO: 20 (Base) -2 (Strength) +0 (two weapon style and Dex 16) = 18
* Off Hand Damage: 1d4 (Base) +5 (Strength) =1d4+5

Round 1:

Hit a bat THACO 16: 1d20 ⇒ 10
Damage if hit: 1d4 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12

1.5 APR THACO 16: 1d20 ⇒ 9
Damage if hit: 1d4 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11

Shield Attack THACO 18: 1d20 ⇒ 11
Damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

With naught but hammer and shield, the cleric charged in.

@Critzible: What rules are we using if firing into melee? Random targeting as per 2nd edition, correct?

Grand Lodge

Male Aasimar Wizard 18/ Rogue2

if engaged you roll if you succeed you hit the target, of not you can hit another in melee.it will be a random roll. And then I'll roll or the attacker can roll, a flat roll and see if it succeeds or fails

Ok gotcha - still risky, but not so much as random determination.

In a flurry, Akkramar starts launching daggers at the bats.

I think RoF or Daggers is 3/1?

Dagger 1: 20 - 1d20 - 2 ⇒ 20 - (17) - 2 = 1
Damage if it hits: 1d4 + 2 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 5 = 8

Dagger 2: 20 - 1d20 - 2 ⇒ 20 - (14) - 2 = 4
Damage if it hits: 1d4 + 2 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 5 = 11

Dagger 3: 20 - 1d20 - 2 ⇒ 20 - (20) - 2 = -2
Damage if it hits: 1d4 + 2 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 5 = 9

I did the THAC0 calculation in the formula already - they hit AC1, 4 and -2. Last one is a nat20, but I don't think there were criticals in 2e.

Gloin scrambles up and moves to try and get to where the horses are hobbled.

I am going to try and move the horses away from the bats, but I am not sure if I get to them this round.

male Stout Halfling Fighter 1/Druid 1

"Linden, wake up!!!"

Male Rockgnome Breachgnome 1, (AC: 4 | HP: 11/11 | THAC0: 20 | Infravision 60')

Linden sputters, and says something about "too much butter to swim in," His eyes focus, and he asks, "what? Are we there yet?"
