Mythic Spells (Archmage, Hierophant, and Universal) Path Ability and Action Economy

Mythic Adventures Playtest General Discussion

Just had an interesting question come up. Does it require an immediate action to spend the Mythic Point when using the Mythic Spell path ability?. Using the Mythic Power section, it mentions costing an immediate action albeit that is in reference to adding to your d20 roll. If it does cost that immediate action then those users lose their swift action for the round.

No, as should be even more clearly spelled out by the recent changes to the playtest that explicitly splits 'mythic power' from the surge ability that adds a bonus to the d20 roll.

Actually, Peter, it is less clear. Yes it is divorced from the Surge ability, which I had forgotten, but now it does not specify an action type at all when spending a Mythic Point for Mythic Spells.

I'd personally think the expenditure of mythic power is basically a non-action, as it is part of the casting of the spell itself. You still need a standard (or whatever) to cast the spell itself. Makes sense that using the mythic power of it is bundled into that.

I admit though that I have no clue, really.

If there is no action specified, why would you try and attach an action type to it? You are making this more difficult than needed.

It just runs kind of like Ki points and the Magus Arcane Pool, so I was wondering if they have clarity on actions required to spend those Mythic Points, like Ki points and Arcane Pool.

Hero Points specifically call out that no action is required to spend them, so they are clear on those as well.

I am fine either way, I just would like a little clarity since this came up from a player in my playtest. Other "point systems" they have clarify the actions required to spend them.
