5 years ago in 2007, I asked if there would be a PAYPAL option for PDF products the answer was "probably not before christmas".

Now 5 years later Paizo still has not a PAYPAL option set up. I really wonder why?

Do you not understand that you have customers in Europe for example, and that over here NOT everybody has a credit card?

Are you earning enough money to disregard this payment method, which is deemed safe enough by companys such as Amazon?

Really now I would like to understand the reason for the refusal of Paizo to offer PAYPAL to its customers.

I just found with a full shopping cart that there is no paypal option. Sorry Paizo, no sale.

You should still be able to get the stuff through vendors that use PayPal, so everyone wins!

Anguish, having a Visa or MasterCard logo on your debit card means you can use it at any place that takes credit cards.

Since this thread has resurfaced, and interesting update here in Canadaland... I just got a renewed debit card which supports Interac "Flash". Flash is basically just tap-to-pay. My debit card still works exactly like it always has, a direct transfer between two financial institutions without Visa/Mastercard involved.

That said, my bank (one of those very few nationals I mentioned) has also wrangled a deal with Visa such that my debit card is now also a Visa debit credit card. That is to say, when in Americaland, I can now actually use my card as I am accustomed to, via the Visa system.

So there you are, nearly 18 months later we've just... tacked your system on as a rider on top of ours. Anywhere in Canada, it's just a store's bank taking money from my bank. Anywhere in the US it's a store's bank taking money from Visa taking money from my bank. 'Cuz yay, middlemen.

This really sucks. I have a debit card I'm paranoid about using on the internet(after I hear about what happened to others), and a credit card Paizo won't accept.

Get Google Wallet then. and make sure you have two step authorisation set up for your Google account. You can refill it from a debit/credit card or directly from a checking account. Wallet issues free to use debit cards.

You can't get much safer than that. Paypal was severely compromised a couple of months ago, so it's not the pinnacle of safety.

It was??? I knew about the big issue with Target recently, but this is the first I've about PayPal ...

Where was the leak and how?

Until you hit any one of the bajillion gas stations that need a zip code to pay at the pump ... you can try the "just use the numbers in the postal code + 00" on some and it works, but I find whenever I do the West Coast run (Vancouver to Seattle and as far as San Diego) no matter what it says on the card, I end up at the teller explaining that I'm not from around there :)

My spouse was informed that a bunch of accounts, including his were compromised and attempts were made to siphon funds from his checking account. He actually had to close down his checking account, and transfer it's funds to a new one. He still uses it as it's a neccessity for running an Avon account, but we're pretty careful about it. Now I only link Google Wallet to it.

But yes it happens.

Yeah, my PayPal was hacked a couple of years ago. While they figured it out and refunded the money, I have no idea why people think it's more secure than any other option.

When I was a subscriber, and I canceled all my cards, I went to walmart, got a card that you can add money to, has visa logo and you can use to buy items on the site- preorder, subscriber, regular, whatever. You just load money on it when you need it.

Eh, my family just refuses to use PayPal outright. Both times we did, the account got hacked. Once bitten, twice shy. There is no third time for them.

The only security you get from Paypal over using your card directly is that your card details don't get transmitted over your web browser every time you make a purchase, and the retailer never sees them.

Given that your Paypal id/password tends to get typed in instead of your card number, that's really negating the effectiveness of the card details not going through (in terms of keyloggers on your local PC or traffic sniffing on your connection in conjunction with SSL decryption), so the only real security advantage is when you're dealing with a retailer you wouldn't want to trust your card details to (like private sellers on eBay, or that strange little company whose website popped up overnight and are claiming they can sell you something at 10% of the RRP) - or, of course, their choice of payment processor.

Personally, I tend to use Paypal more for convenience (I'm surfing the net, see something cool, and don't need to go find my card - no, I can't remember the number ;) ) than security, although there have been a couple of instances I was glad I used it when disreputable retailers were not forthcoming with a refund.

Yep, we're finally making progress but it's still pretty scattershot. I recently was on a trip to Toronto and had arranged for a rental-car service in advance using my Debit-Visa. I cleared it with them (twice) over the phone before my arrival to make sure that Debit-Visa would work the same as a regular credit card and they assured me it would. Fast forward two days later when I arrive at the good ol' nightmare that is the Lester B. Pearson airport - I get to the teller-station for my car rental only to find out that, whoops, nope, they can't use Debit-Visa as Visa. I talked to the manager and told him that their national service center informed me that it would be fine and their website (which they had on their monitor at the station) even stated the same. But no, they told me they couldn't help me and I was now stuck at the airport needing to get to Waterloo with my travel arrangements now shot. Anyway, long story short, the trip worked out fine and I was able to arrange for alternative travel but, suffice it to say, that car-rental business won't ever be getting my business in the future. /rant.

That's an interesting story.... in the US if it has a Visa or Mastercard logo on it, you don't even need to tell the person it's debit... it can just get rung through as any other credit card

That said, some rental companies (most really) will add an temp extra charge of about $250-$500 on debit cards. Once you return the car you get that back. Of course it takes up to 3 days for your bank to register that return.

I understand not everyone having a credit card. I don't have one myself, despite being a citizen of the U.S.A.

...do you also not have an ATM or bank card? Either of those should be usable in much the same way as a credit card, though rather than being sent a bill and having to deal with interest, the money is just taken from the attached checking account.

If you don't have one... don't you have a bank? Can't you get one?

I ask not because I am trying to disparage you, I just really don't understand how you seem to be living in the modern world and yet are not experiencing basic modern amenities.

paypal would be awesome!
