Ignore v4

I was doing some work with WebSockets this weekend, so I hadn't logged into the Paizo forums for a bit.

Private messages tell me that the Ignore Script is broken!

I'm fueling up the Firebug mobile; I'll post again on this thread when v4 is working in Firefox and Chrome.

GOOD NEWS: Ignore v4 is complete!

Extension/Script: paizo_ignore_v4.user.js

Chrome users: Google has decided that ALL extensions for Chrome will now be curated through the Chrome Web Store.
If you want to install this, you'll need to download the file to your computer, and then drag and drop it on the Tools -> Extensions page in Chrome.

Firefox users: Make sure you have the Greasemonkey Add-On installed. After that, simply click on the script link above and you'll be prompted to install the script.

I'll write up some more details tomorrow evening. Send me a private message if you're having any trouble.

Okay, more details as promised...

Updating the script wasn't too difficult. Some of the elements changed, but it was mostly a matter of saying "not tag X, instead tag Y".

I did modify the handling of names and aliases a little bit. The script should be a little better at narrowing down the main identity.
This may mean that some people on your old ignore list may appear again. Sorry about that; you'll have to click Ignore again for those posters.

There was a small cosmetic change as well.
Previously the word Ignore was placed on the left side (Ignore | Flag | List | Reply).
Now that area has a date/time.
So, I've shifted the word Ignore to the right side (34 minutes ago | Flag | List | Reply | Ignore)

I'm a little disappointed in two things:

1. The script doesn't give any indications that something happened. Clicking with no effect until page reload is an unnerving user experience. I'd like to remedy this in v5.

2. Google. The move to curate extensions feels more like a greed play to market a digital store than anything to do with user security. Fortunately they've left us with a workaround, even if it is a bit clunky.

Enjoy the script! :-)

I noticed that I didn't have to re-add the two people I was ignoring. That was a smooth upgrade. Thank you.

Hey, thanks!

I missed this thread. Thanks for the update!

Thank you mr owl

Good stuff. This is the forum we should watch for updates, I take it?

I have a complaint to register about this script: It makes reading the forums from my laptop so much more pleasant that I can no longer enjoy reading them from my tablet or phone. Please advise?

Can you read this? If yes, THE SCRIPT IS A FAILURE. ;-)

Oh my god, thank you. There are some incredibly toxic people on this forum, this is like a breath of fresh air.

Now Available

another_mage's Truesight Goggles
https://github.com/blinkdog/truesight-goggles/raw/master/src/main/webapp/js /truesight-goggles.user.js

This version only works with Mozilla Firefox and Greasemonkey; sorry Google Chrome users.

What's in this new version?:
- Brings most of my old scripts together in a single script.
- All of the features are controlled via a jQuery UI

Usage:
- After loading the script (and disabling any of my other scripts), reload the page
- Look for a transparent owl in the lower-left corner of the screen.
- Mouse-over the owl and click on it to bring up the control box

Control Box (Display):
Underline All Links: Forces every link on the site to appear in Underline.

Control Box (Ignore):
Remove Posts by Ignored: Decide if the Ignore list should be applied or not
Your personal ignore list appears here. Click to highlight the people you want to remove from the list, and then click "Remove" at the bottom of the list.

Control Box (Posts):
Embed Images: If someone includes an image URL in their post, embed that image directly into the post body.
Embed YouTube Videos: If someone include a YouTube URL in their post, embed the YouTube video directly into the post body.
Hyperlink URLs: If someone posts a URL but doesn't 'linkify' it, then 'linkify' it automatically
Link Game Terms to d20pfsrd: If someone includes gaming terms in their post then link those words to d20pfsrd.com (magic missile links to magic missile)
Replace Smurf Avatars: Removes certain blue avatars and replaces them with the author's original avatar. Don't forget to laugh like Gargamel.

Control Box (About):
Link to the license (Affero GNU General Public License v3+)
Link to the source code (on GitHub)

Owl Avatar:
If you open the Control Box somewhere on the page and then lose it by scrolling around, just click the Owl again. It should center the Control Box wherever you happen to be in the page.

Final Version
Unfortunately, personal time constraints mean this will probably be the final version of my site-enhancement scripts.
Honestly, I'm not 100% happy with this version, but I've run out of time for it.
Sadly, these features didn't make the cut:

    * Make a version that is compatible with Google Chrome
    * Update the game term links for new d20pfsrd.com content
    * Allow game terms to link to Paizo's SRD in addition to d20pfsrd.com

The code is available on GitHub if you want to fork the repository.

The sad thing is, if it was you'll never know! He could just ignore you're posts to make you think you're the one... and then suddenly reply to you. Ambush time :)

So I accidentally clicked "Ignore" when I was going to reply to someone. How do I go about unignoring that person?

If it is the bag with teeth, leave him ignored. Otherwise scroll *all* the way down to the bottom of the page and you should see an "Ignored: |" with a list of folks you have ignored. Click on the one that you want to remove and refresh the page.

Thanks, that did the trick. Easy to miss that list, I've gotta say.

Fantastic work!

Thanks

Oh no! The new site layout seems to have broken the ignore script! HELP! HELP!

Weird, nothing has changed for me!

It has stopped working on threads that were started after the new layout came up. The script is still working on threads that were in place before the changes.

Thanks for the bug report. I'll get that fixed.

Sorry, just to clarify, are you fixing the new threads to be compatible with the Ignore Script?

Don't worry, it's nothing personal Gorbacz (I don't even actually use my own Ignore Script), I'm just trying to plan out my week/weekends.

This week, I'm involved in the Seven-Day Roguelike Challenge 2014 (7DRL), so my time is a bit limited.

If our esteemed developer is fixing the new threads to be like the old, then the Ignore Script will continue working and those who use it will be happy.

If our esteemed developer is fixing the old threads to be like the new, then the Ignore Script will break everywhere and those who use it will not be happy.

I'd appreciate a heads-up from Christopher Anthony either way, just so I know what I have in store for this week. (i.e.: If I need to take a break from my 7DRL development and switch over to fixing the Ignore Script at some point or not.)

Feedback from script users is always welcome too. If I do end up needing to fix the script, I'll probably put in the Hide Post feature and maybe some other goodies too.

@Another Mage:

Thank you for making the ignore script in the first place. And if you do any additional work on in the future then please accept my thanks for that also.

This assumes that you are not ignoring me.

It looks like you got your hope's desire. The Ignore Script has now stopped working on old threads too. :(

Mage, I also want to thank you for the work you have done in the past. I eagerly look forward to Version 5.

Same here. ignorev4 was a godsend.

I noticed that it would not ignore posts while I was composing a reply. Was that a bug or a feature?

The class names that are probably effecting the ignore script will not be changed back. It's possible that class names may be altered further at some future point, but I can't say for certain.
