New to PbP looking to give it a try

Recruitment

1 to 50 of 88 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | next > last >>

Hi -

I've been lurking about these forums for awhile and am considering giving the PbP format a try. I've never done it before, but I enjoy the additional RP it seems to provide.

Honestly I don't really understand how it all works, or how often one usually posts. I'm in front of a computer most of the day at work anyway, so I thought maybe it might be a good option to try as I don't get around the table much.

If anybody has a shorter game, or module that needs a player, and you don't mind helping me through the first bit I'd be very interested. I'm not against a full on AP, but I just figured being very new to the system, I'd hate to make any type of commitment that won't be able to keep.

I use Hero Lab, and have a solid new player level of experience with the Pathfinder system.

Thanks!

I hear you! I've owned the game for about 7 weeks but have been a player for about 3 years. I've been tinkering about running a game with players like us, new to the system and are looking to get better acquainted.

I am also looking:

my looking for group post

Maybe if we consolidate, we can all find a GM!

Are you offering to GM a game?

If so, would you mind if someone with a little experience joined in?

And if not, I might be tempted to run a game for everyone depending on player interest and time available.

for PbP I can do 2-5 posts daily depending on what is available to act upon and pacing.

I am in MDT timezone, (GMT - 6)

I am available from 6-8 on a regular basis weekdays, and mid afternoon weekends depending on scheduling.

I am online throughout the day, and can track/reply almost anytime 7 am - 2 am.

As I've never PbP before, I'm not in any position to offer myself as GM. At some point I'd love to, but I'd better start as a player first.

I'm not sure how coordinated our times need to be in this type of format. Do we typically just agree to post a couple times a day? During a certain time of day? Again, all new to me.

Honestly, 1 post per day ~ 2 days has always been fine with me. Some people prefer a minimum of 1 a day but I don't mind having a nice long game that lasts a long time.

This will also be my first PbP game. Based on other board phenomena, such as collaborative writing projects, that at times attention wanes and at time it surges. Some days I would expect 10 posts, and some none or 1 just as people check in to say, 'I am still here! I promise, just busy IRL'.

Well if anyone's interested I would NOT mind getting some new players acquainted to PbP Games even if I haven't been doing this all that long. Probably a short module.

Sounds good to me, you can find my character concept in a link above, or

HERE

I can tweak as needed, just want to see her in action.

Already looked it over.

Personally I never use HeroLab preferring good old write by hand method.

For those of you who have never used it, this site is the motherlode for new and old players alike: Link Here

I'm willing to write up a module for, let's say, 1st to 3rd level. When we finish that I can write more if needed.

Is there a particular theme/ adventure trope you'd like to explore?

I would like to defer to the OP for a theme. I like most everything from faery tale themed to gothic horror. I generally prefer fantasy - high fantasy, but epic gets a little crazy at times, just so much power available... Since I always seem to play casters, am not a fan of low fantasy, but could give it a shot!

I don't mind, I do everything.

Time for me to call it a night, but I bookmarked. If you look over my proposed character and would like me to make something else, let me know.

What kind of theme would you be considering?

Personally starting out, I'd be a fan of a good ol' fashion dungeon crawl. Torches, scary noises, things that go bump in the night. That sort of thing. But I'm open to anything if we can get a game going for those of us new to this.

so classic we "meet in a bar, bartender says you look able, there is a horde of kobalds ravaging the country side, perhaps you should speak to the mayor. . ." type?

It would work for me. I'm really new to this format, so I thought at least the first time through if it was kept light we'd have some room to get use to the whole thing PbP thing, or game mechanics before diving head first into a deep campaign.

Plus I've heard that PbP can sometimes lose steam as they go. If we kept it down to a module sized adventure, we'd have a good chance of getting though it. I'm a big Ravenloft fan, so a creepy castle, or crypt is always fun for me.

Any other thoughts or ideas?

They can die pretty quickly, and they're a poor format for dungeon crawls.

I'm also new to the PbP format and have been watching for a suitable recruitment thread for a while, so here I am, registering my interest.

I'm located in Copenhagen, so that's GMT +2 at the moment with summertime whatnot. I could certainly handle a one or two posts per day type of game, although a slower pace would also be quite fine.

Character-wise, I would quite like to have a go at a divine caster, but honestly, I don't have a strong preference. The same goes for the theme of game, I would be very happy to try most things.

How many years playing D20 do you all have?

I played a bit of AD&D back many years ago. Most recently I've played some 4E, but have been pushing to get more Pathfinder time. I'm not a seasoned player as I'm sure many are, but I'm not a stranger to dice either.

If a dungeon crawl is not a good idea for PbP, thats cool too. Beggars can't be choosers. If somebody is willing to do a game, thats good enough for me.

i would be interested. I have never PbP, im 0-6 for trying to get into a game. I have several character concepts i could run with depending on whats needed. (Half elf cavalier/oracle/holy vindicator, Catfolk sorcerer, elven barbarian, Dwarf Druid)

Scarab Sages

I'd also be interested. I have experience with pathfinder and I have participated in this format for RP but not for a real game. I can post many times per day usually. I had interest in an archer character, possibly going arcane archer if the module is extended into a full campaign.

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

Just as an aside, for those interested in playing in their first pbp game, I highly recommend DH's guide to pbp gaming. It's located on the paizo forums and you can read it here.

Enjoy.

I'm also looking for a game for new people. I've never played pathfinder. Do you think you'd be able to fit me in and show me the ropes?

There are probably enough people who have posted here to split up between Ken and myself. I will be doing a simple module. It's just a matter of finding out how to create a thread.

Now, keep in mind, PbP is much slower than a chat or meeting friends over Doritos and Mountain Dew. However, it doesn't require scheduling and allows players to get creative with their writing. It's also great for a nice pace for learning the game.

I am not the OP :)

Here is my character sheet. I am posting again so it is closer to the OP's (I like organization).

I am also not the OP but I had proposed to GM this game if no one else stepped up.

As for d20 gaming experience, I've got 10 years behind my belt and counting.

I also do LOVE dungeon crawls, as they are fun to create, play in and allow for a variety of player interaction and combat!

I do not mind at all having completely new players but this won't be Beginner Box as I prefer having more options.

If everyone's ok with me GMing I have the following questions for everyone:

- What Point Buy do we want to use? (I'm fine with even up to 25)
- What books do you have access to? (That shouldn't be a problem as we have This Here Link to help us out.
- How many players want in? I don't mind having a large group but that will most certainly slow down gameplay.

As for those who have never tried Pathfinder before, have you played D&D 3/3.5 at least?

If not, I suggest reading over the following sections on the d20pfsrd (link above): Common Terms, Getting Started, Ability Scores, Character Creation Outline, your chosen Race, your chosen Class and everything in the Combat section. Having the Core Rulebook would probably help a lot.

Oh and I'll allow HeroLab as its easier to start with.

Let me know your answers!

And indeed, me and CaptMadJaq can easily split up the group.

GarrinB, Jus me, luspr, ukuth0r, Choon and jonc

That's 2 teams of 3 characters which will run much faster than a team of 6+ and probably be easier on us GMs.

I'm good with you GMing Ken, as I of course will not be. I'd suggest maybe a 20 point buy, if for no other reason then that is what I'm use to.

I have access to the Core book, APG, Ultimate Magic, Ultimate combat. Most of the big ones. Although as I am new, I don't plan on going too complicated on my first try.

I fairly well versed with PF, but lack the game table experience. I've done a lot more play via VTT, so I'm no stranger to "alternate" forms of gaming.

Thanks for stepping up as GM. I look forward to getting something started.

I hear having barbarians join your group is all the rage.

To work well, I think I'll take a max of 4 players.

That should give us the basics.

So, Dungeon Crawl chosen, I think I'm going to go with a fun idea I've had hanging around my head. Give you a nice fresh PbP start.

Just assign me a GM. I'm a very flexible person who enjoys long, detailed posts; interesting personalities; and posting multiple times per day. And I'm not looking for a date, promise. ;)

Even if you were, I'm already taken unfortunately xD

- we'll go with 20 point buy for my group.

Great to see things might be shaping up. Just assign me (GarrinB) a GM and a game thread and I'll be ready to go!

I'm going off until later on tonight, and I prefer to wait on CaptMadJaq to define the groups.

That's great! Thanks Ken and CaptMadJaq for agreeing to take us newbies on!

I don't mind what point buys we're doing. I have access to the core, APG, ultimate magic and ultimate combat. If there's other specific books I need I can get them.

I'm happy to be playing any type of character so I'll wait until we have split up and see what our party needs.

Lantern Lodge

I have found some time and would be willing to run an AP for up to six people. I have been doing pbp for about 3 years and dnd for about 25. If you want me I can run an AP for you guys starting you off at level 1.

besides I need to hone some stuff out I am working on anyways and it gives me the roleplaying fix that I want. I am open to all AP that have been completed. This will only exclude the shattered star.

I'll gladly jump on that. I haven't run any of the AP's so I am hereby your willing PC plaything.

Then again I'm also up for the shorter games above. What can I say, I have a lot of time to post.. :P

I am heading off for 2-4 hours just stopped to a brief

+++++++++++++++++++
SYNOPSIS
+++++++++++++++++++

GarrinB/Vigilante;
CaptMadJaq (volunteered to GM);
Jus Me;
Ken Devende (first to volunteer as GM);
lusper;
okuthOr;
Choon; and
Jonc

have shown interest (Names in order of posts, (GarrinB AKA Vigilante = OP).

Although Galia Hartswift did post, it did not seem to indicate interest.
JAFO also posted, and though his post was very helpful *thank you* it did not show interest.

So, we have 2 potential GM's, Ken and CaptMadJaq.

we have six interested players (not including the GMs) GarrinB, Myself, Lusper, okuthOr, Choon, and Jonc.

Two character sheets are posted and ready:

GarrinB AKA Vigilante with a Paladin build, and myself with a Summoner build.

The dungeon will be a Dungeon Crawl with 20 point build.

Thank you Ken and CaptMadJaq

Scarab Sages

I will post a build in alias tomorrow for the dungeon crawl. Probably rogue, maybe bard

Don't forget deway! He offered to run an AP and I'm all for that, though I got the general feeling that not everyone in the thread wants to run a full AP. I hope there's enough interest because being in a PbP AP is something I really (like REALLY) want to do.

So, in short I'm jumping into 2 pools at once, to be clear. :P

I have never run PbP before, so I would rather run a couple weeks with training wheels before doing a full AP, perhaps deway would be willing to let us train up as it were before the AP starts? Or maybe I could try to roll both if there is no way to postpone the full AP for a little while.

The character I'm going to build for yours will probably be a female cleric of Calistria with the charm (lust sub-domain) and trickery domains. All charm spells and charisma, all the time. :)

Me neither, but I'm the kind of person who jumps into these things head first. I'm all for learning on the fly. That's what the edit button is for, after all. :P
