Magical Lineage (trait): Can I use this trait to adjust a spell's effective level down to 0?No.
—Pathfinder Design Team, today
Uh... that was dissapointingly incomplete. Yeah, you can't turn a spell into an infinite use cantrip. Great. What about reducing a 3rd level spell to 2nd level? I assume that's also intended as "no," but the question/answer is specific only to making a non-cantrip/orision into one.
Further, what about combining the two traits on the same spell at all? RAW, they're not providing a "bonus" of any sort to invoke the non-stacking trait bonus rule. But I'd certainly like to see that nerfed so you can't combine them...
Could you please expand a bit upon this FAQ? Thank you for replying, though. At least one specific bit of cheese is explicitly banned now.

PFSRD lists this editor's note:
Magical Lineage was never intended as a way for you to actually lower a spell's level. It was put in to allow you to reduce the increase from a metamagic feat.
Their link to the support post in the paizo messageboard is broken, though. It appears to be trying to link to this thread where Jason Buhlman says as much.
