I likes me some Artesia. I'd be interested in getting other opinions on it.

I don't think I have ever seen a negative opinion of the comics online. The only negative comments I have ever heard came from one friend, who didn't like the art style, and who has some very odd views and attitudes towards woman in general, so I take his dislike with a pinch of salt.

But yeah, I would have thought it would be the go to place for not only woman in sensible armour, but also strong, pro-female characterisation.

Edit: Also, if you hadn't heard, there is a new artesia website, a planned play test for A:AKW and new comics in the workds

Sorry for the thread necromancy, but I saw a discussion of this site on the Escapist and it looked interesting:

Repair Her Armor

This takes artwork from comic books and video games, and redresses the female characters so they don't look like they're from a soft core porn or are exotic dancers by trade.*

The amazing thing is, at least in my opinion, the every single "fixed" picture so far results in a far nicer, more aesthetically pleasing, and all-around sexier and more exciting image.

----------
*Disclaimer: I have no quarrel with soft core porn or exotic dancing, but if you put an exotic dancer in my face and tell me she is the female equivalent of a heavily armored knight, my immersion in the story tends to be lost.

Also, inb4 BUT I LIKE HALF NAKED CHICKS STOP OPPRESSING ME. You are allowed to like half-naked chicks. Half-naked chicks, and naked chicks for the matter, are all well and good. I enjoy them too sometimes! I am not oppressing you. I am not, through the power of this post, going to make all the half-naked chicks go away. I am not suggesting that you should stop enjoying the things you enjoy. I am simply writing about the things I personally do and do not enjoy, and assert my right to have those opinions. If you respond to this post with any implication to the contrary, i.e., suggesting that I am oppressing you and your enjoyment of half-naked chicks, I will find you, and I will shove your computer up your rear orifice. Should I fail to find you, please perform the procedure on yourself in my absence.

Thanks for sharing DQ. It looks great.

Its images of sexy women in reasonable armor.

I approve. I am also reminded of Brienne of Tarth:

Hey, if you're into fully-clothed women, I won't judge you. It takes all kinds!

FWIW, I keep a folder on my DeviantArt account to keep track of artwork depicting (IMO) women in reasonable/functional armor. At some point, I'll try to go back thru this thread and find those that I've missed, but I just figured it might be useful to share.

I didn't care for the fairie fix. All the others were fine, though i detect some prudishness on the part of a few of the submissions.

+1! Bookmarked =)

EDIT: Here's some more from Ruloc, I noted a couple of his in your folder there and wanted to share a few more =)

Here, Here, Here, Here, Here, Here, Here and Here. =)

Thanks for the additional links, Orthos! Now I did leave a few out who seemed to simply be wearing reasonable adventuring attire rather than actual armor — although 'reasonably attired female adventurers' might be another list to contemplate... :)

EDIT: Added a few more from earlier in this thread.

Yeah, I tried to stick to the ones actually wearing armor.

In my games, if a complete set of armour is not being worn, AC will suffer.

You can go in swinging, with an armoured plate bra, scale boots and a light bascinet helmet, it now functions as padded.

Do you realize that I now have an overpowering desire to say ...

"You're Oppressing Me!"

You're not, but I just had to say that.

I actually prefer fantasy chicks in "real" armour.

Believe it or not - I found a reasonably dressed Courtesan :O

Then there's this - which may not look very reasonable (short skirt), but considering that she's an amazon basically wearing something somewhat reminiscent of how Ancient Greek soldiers are usually depicted, does it still count as reasonable anyway?

These Deviant art finds are amazing and gorgeous guys.

Kajehase, the "amazon" looks reasonable to me. Looks like a Xena redesign.

It's also of note that she is not posed to show off her bare legs, simply they appear bare for easy movement.

The pose does indeed matter.

People forget or don't know that Greeks and Romans basically fought in short skirts made of leather straps. Maybe a little longer than this but pretty much right on.

I think Hamilton was Mr. February in 'Wig and Britches Aficionado' magazine.

With shin pads, if they could afford it.

IMO, all the more attractive for it. Both because it's less common and therefore more desirable (in a sense), but also because it denotes confidence and a measure of personal power, which are both things I look for in a partner.

Plus, sometimes things are best left to the imagination..

Silver Crusade

Gonna have to check out all of these recent links after work. :)

On topic: The most recent Oglaf spun this issue into weapons as well as armor.

I like looking at pictures of women in realistic armor. Just looks cool and I like the way it looks. Also women in reasonable armor makes it easier to take a pathfinder book to a doctors office while in the waiting room without being embarrassed or hassled by anyone. Also liking women in armor does not nesecarily mean you don't like naked women or are a prude isn't that a false dictomy.

This makes me think of the ST:NG episode when they first introduce the Ferengi.

LETEK: Proof of their barbarism. They adorn themselves with gold, a despicable use of a valuable metal. And they shamelessly clothe their females.
MORDOC: Inviting others to unclothe them. The very depth of perversion.

I recall that episode. :D

Thought this would be the best place to put this:

What kind of armor did medieval women really wear?

Discusses that while there are historic accounts of women wearing armor in the medieval ages, that there are no images made of such women using the actual woman/armor as a model (there are lots of pictures of Joan of Arc for example, but most were made after she died). Speculates on what it might have been like -- which is probably, much like men's armor, but fitted to a smaller body.
