Oracle with mixed mysteries?

Advice

Hello all,

I am now playing an Oracle in the Carrion Crown campaign. My background is a girl, living in Ustalav (has Pharasma as a state religion), who had parents who were outlanders praying to Sarenrae. As the Ustalav people are not too open about things that are normal or are different from the norm, they hid their religion, practicing the religion of Pharasma in the open whilst adoring Sarenrae in private. This was not a problem, since the tenits of Pharasma do not collide.

Then, after the whole village of Clover's Crossing died in an unexplained undead attack, she fled the village, using strange powers she did not know she had and does not know where came from.

As a fact, Sarenrae took in interest in the orphin, blessing the child (or cursing?) with her powers. She manifests the powers of healing at the moment, working as a healer at the temple and being able to channel divine energy to heal and to hard undead.

Now, I would like my character to manifest flame powers after a few levels, to demonstrate that Sarenrae is the driving force and not Pharasma, as my character has thought all along. I would like to be able to choose several of the Fire mystery revelations for flavour.

Since the energy body revelation is already available, perhaps I could choose the Form of Flame revelation. That would be cool :) Or maybe Touch of Flame. So one or two revelations from the Fire mystery.

My questions:

* Would you allow it?
* How would you implement it?
* Which revelations would you allow and why?

Thanks,

henk

Cherry picking mysteries (even for flavor) is not something I would even consider. They weren't balanced to be mixed and even if you don't break anything you would set precedence for someone else with more malicious intent to do it.

I personally would not allow it, as it's akin to a sorcerer wanting to change his bloodline. The Mystery class feature is very much a part of who the Oracle is. An Oracle gets their powers (and their curse) from being directly imbued with a spark of the divine, generally a specific god. They're unlikely to allow you to change your focus over to that of another god, barring an agreement between the gods or direct divine intervention.

If you really wanted to get a power from another Mystery, you might be able to use Use Magic Device with a Ring of Revelations, though some argue against that being a valid option.

It would be hard to implement it in such a way to be balanced. The option exists to gain Sorcerer bloodline powers through Eldritch Heritage feats, but the parallel between bloodline powers and revelations isn't quite there, as an Oracle has a number of choices for any given level, while a Sorcerer's abilities are set in stone.

That said, GM fiat could simply say 'Yeah, sure' and handwave the whole thing if he believes it to be thematically appropriate for your character and not overpowered.

Thanks. Maybe I'll just have all positive energy look like fire and be done with it :)

If you really want a fire focus on your channel energy, you could look at the Variant Channeling in Ultimate Magic (it's under Cleric, but is an allowed choice for any class with channel energy). You can tack on some extra abilities to your channeling at the cost of reduced healing, which may or may not be worth it to you.

There is a sorc archtype that allows for dual bloodlines however you have to choose between 2 powers at the same level, unlike mysteries which are standalone and for the most part can be taken whenever.

but yeah poteintally via eldrich herritage type of feat chain might be ok

although prob better to use elrich herritage to try and find the flavour your looking for with your oracle

e.g. elemental bloodline (fire)

Some oracle archetypes allow to choose one or two fixed revelations from another mystery. You could homebrew an archetype fitting for your character.
