Crafting "transformative" into found weapons so you can morph them?

Rules Questions

So "transformative" is only a 10k cost bump, which should be 5kish to craft.

Is there anything to prevent PCs from happening along a weapon they're not proficient with, that's otherwise pretty awesome, and throwing "transformative" on it so they can use it?

Seems like the sort of thing that would end up getting thrown on a whole party's weapons after long enough.

There isn't anything but the GM stopping that from happening.

I don't see that happening alot though. It is expensive enough to keep that from being common. Also, I do not see that many awesome weapons nobody in the party is proficient with. Most of the time, somebody can use it, and if they can't then the GP worth of it should provide enough gold to have a weapon enchanted with a desired enchantment.

Transformitive is the most useful for polearm using character, or martial character that favor a wider selection of weapons to better deal with different situations and damage reductions. Rogues could also use it to make their one handed weapon into a smaller dagger so they can sneak it past guards.

Only if it was a light one-handed weapon to begin with.

From the Transformative section:

"For example, a Medium transformative longsword can take the shape of any other Medium one-handed melee weapon, such as a scimitar, flail, or trident, but not a Medium light or two-handed melee weapon (such as a Medium short sword or a Medium greatsword)."

Perhaps not proficient, but certainly something that nobody wants to use. Just because the fighter is proficient with a ranseur doesn't mean that he wants to give up his greatsword (and the 4 feats that only apply to greatsword).

It also depends on the quality of the weapons that foes leave behind. Most of the time, an NPC won't have a weapon as good as what the party already has, but a boss might have one as good or better. Especially if there has been a recent encounter with a rust monster or someone with Improved Sunder. If that ranseur is a +5 ransuer, adding Transformative will be cheaper than selling it for cash.

It was an idea the monk in the game came up with, because monk items are so rare in games, and I give him props for creativity, but really he's looking at it the same way as the fighter in our game is. Both are tweaked for crit feats that are weapon specific, so when I drop cool melee weapons with flavor and snazz into the game they're like "well, what's its resale value?" I can see their point.

Question on how to do it though.

Say you've got a +5 flaming burst weapon they want to add transformative to. In doing so, they would essentially be crafting a "+5 flaming burst transformative" weapon, so they'd need a CL15 guy to add it, correct?
