Pathfinder iPad Apps

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

What Ho All,

I've recently purchased an iPad and I'mp looking at filling it up with Pathfinder goodness. I found PFR at the itunes store and I'm wondering if anyone has tried it on an iPad yet. It looks to be designed primarily for the iphone, which means that it might not utilisae the whole screen on the ipad.

In other news, I've found a very good PDF reader in iAnnotate PDF that lets you edit and annotate PDFs. It also lets you open multiple PDFs in a tabbed display so you could (for example) have multiple chapters of the Pathfinder Core Rulebook open. If you open the whole book, though, as a single file it struggles to render the pages quickly.

I don't have an iPad (and may never get one), but I too am curious what apps owners have found that make the iPad useful for gaming.

I'm not aware of any good ipad apps yet. Hopefully that will change soon!

Any news on the Paizo Iphone apps yet? Or any chance you will show them off at PaizoCon?

Thanks!

I am currently building maps for use in iPad for RPGNet publishers, though I don't know the technology, only the pixel dimensions of maps I am creating - Tavern, city, regional map...

let me know if its any good. I too had a look aroud and there isnt a heck of a lot of good stuff. I know according to Paizo's FAQ's that they have granted someone license to make a IPad app. No idea what its going to involve though.

Apparently they are working on a Virtual Terrain app for the iPad. I know that with the tavern map I created for them, I also included map objects for all the furniture and about a dozen topdown views of people mostly holding beer mugs.

The idea is you open the file and program, if you place an hold your finger on the screen a menu opens allowing you to view the map with or without furniture, with or without a roof. As an empty no furniture, no roof version, you can select from available map objects and double click to select. Object appears at center of map, then you touch and drag the object to place onto map where you want. Once everything is set, you can place the PCs the same way, and/or move them around the map by touch and drag.

From there you can view the map at half size, then quarter size, then up to town level, where tavern is just one location on it, or up to regional view that shows the town on it.

I am not sure which system this is being developed for (I think 4e), or what kind of PC/NPC states will be included.

That's about all I know of the project - I'm just the cartographer.

Apparently on June 26 there will be an OS update. It will update IOS 4, and the iBook reader will be comparable with PDFs. The PDFs will even get their own bookshelf. Also there will be bookmarks and notes for the PDFs as well.

I use PFR for my iPhone and expect to get an iPad in the next couple of weeks.

I am not sure if PFR Bas updated with the latest changes that appear in the 3rd printing of PFRPG. But otherwise it is nice and handy. I don't even bother taking my books to Society games anymore (less to carry).

I like looking at my Pathfinder PDFs on the "shelf" in iBooks. Some minor font problems (missing Capitol A's in some headings), but I'm likeing it.

I'm the developer of the PFR app. It is a universal app, meaning it runs nicely on both the iPhone and iPad and you don't have to buy it twice :-)

Last night at the gaming table I more or less DM's from my ipad. I had all my creature stat blocks in pages (which is the word processing app) and Thomax's PFR app. I just would toggle back and forth between them as necessary.

Thomax on an aside, tabs, you need tabs... Just so I can quickly jump between a couple of things at once without going to the bookmarks.

I don't use opening the PDF modules because the bloody missing A's and other font meshugas that has bothered apple users for a while also haunts the ipad.

GoodReader and iBooks are both excellent PDF readers for iPad.

I have the Pathfinder Core Rules, a couple of the Bestiary previews, and several other PF PDFs loaded (as well as a ton of old school D&D books).

It's ideal, but it's also a *lot* of money to shell out just for that purpose, but I like the iPad.

I'd give it a B+ overall. It'd get a higher rating if it were lighter and supported Adobe Flash.

I do not, however, know of any Paizo or Pathfinder-specific apps.

EDIT -- Maybe I should read threads before posting :-/
I'll check out the PFR app

I used to be bummed out by the lack of Flash support as well. Then I learned more about Flash and am glad the iPad and iPhone do not support it. From what I have read about it, unless there are major changes in it, Flash will cease to be a major player on the net. It's just a matter of time really, before people start adopting other, more streamlined methods of sharing video content.

I certainly would not suggest someone buy the iPad for the primary purpose of gaming. BUT if you have one it really is great for gaming. I have run several PFS games direct from the iPad (used to do it from the iPhone too... so much easier with the iPad).

I hadn't thought about exporting the pertinent parts to Pages. That is a great idea.

I have created a Numbers character sheet that I find really useful. Multiple pages such as skills and abilities, defense, offense, equipment, magic, companions, notes, PFS history. Does a lot of the calculations for you.

Next I want to make a combat tracker to follow initiative, conditions, and such.

I bought the PFR on my iPhone and found it be a fantastic resource. I only just found out a week ago it's not the official Paizo, that's a testament to how well it runs.

I have an iPad and just last week the PFR updated support to it. I ran my Sunday game from my iPad and found rules and spells quicker than those with the books. I really love this app, kudos to the designer for the hard work. It is crystal clear and full size on the iPad and the new PDF import it's use is growing everyday.

Play / run pathfinder and own an iPad then buy this.

However, I have found little else good rpg apps yet. Here is hoping they come.

Just got a site for the iPad character sheet.

this is a demo site, not ready for "live" viewing yet, but will suffice for providing the download.

This is a direct download for an iPad Character Sheet Requires Numbers to work

Excellent, thanks for this :)

Just tried the link and it no longer is valid. I would love to get the spreadsheet. Any updates?

Oh yeah I do have a new site now and the site is live. :)

kromedragon.com on the front page is the download for the character sheet. You have to have Numbers installed for it to work.

NOTE: I'm no spreadsheet expert. This is just something I threw together for myself. If you have suggestions let me know. Doesn't mean I will know HOW to do the suggestion though :)
