(Those of you who I have "checked" in the recruitment thread, you may start playing, but nothing beyond introductions and such)

The disguised thugs who stand outside of the large, well-constructed building of The Golden Globe ask your business, then, when you have answered, usher you inside with what seems undue urgency. The hallways are dark and richly furnished, befitting the stature of the nobles who have made this their headquarters. Your destination is deep inside the mighty manor and boarding house. Few come here, and the room you enter, dark, secluded, is empty. It appears you must wait a while for an audience with your prospective employer. Though handsomely furnished, the room is rather bare, with only a few chairs and a desk. The only thing on the desk is a small packet made of crude, coarse fabric.

aura (magic) detection:
The packet radiates strong, intriguing evocation magic, and is surrounded by an area of somewhat weaker magic of the same kind.

Erodel briefly looks around the room for anything else of interest (Perception:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13) and then settles into one of the chairs in the room. Erodel mutters to himself, "This should prove to be interesting."

For Yucale:

Spoiler:
After detecting the aura of magic comming from the small packect

The only other thing of interest is the alcove on the opposite side of the room, covered in a heavy drapery that might well serve as/conceal a door. The only other door into or out of the room is the one opening into the hallway.

Mash stands tall and proud, refusing to accept the luxury of seating. He keeps is eyes darting about, peering into the shadow with darkvision, expecting this to be an ambush. Mash's hand is on the pommel of the bastard sword in the sheath at his side.

I was intending this to be time for the characters to get to know each other, at least until everyone's here.

Mash doesn't see anything the least bit alarming. The only other person in the room with him is the seated magic user.

Liberty's Edge

"My name is Mash, son of Slash. And what is your name, magic man?"

Male elf 1 rouge

Keselous is greeted by the heavy weights at the door as a regular,He is a typical fence in these parts and while he tends to just traffic goods that others have...appropriated, things are getting risky every where for an honest criminal. So if things are going to get risky, well the profit out to be worth the risk. so if you are going to get wet, you might as well swim. He quietly lets thug one and two know that he is interested in helping in the acquisitions department. and then realizing that thieves cant isn't going to get him far with the dim wits, he says he is here for the job. at that the rush him down the hall and in to meet the other two.

Keselous, doesn't recognize the room, but then he hasn't tried to keep tabs.

Not wanting to interrupt the rather large fellow, he waits for the magic user in question to answer after which he will introduce himself as well.

" Hello Gentlemen, I am Keselous Valentine, I presume we are all here after the same goal?"

A burly human male walks into the room, scanning the roon of threats, appraising all of you in turn. He is wearing scale mail under neath his clothing, and carrying several weapons, and also you see a glint of a symbol of Iomedae hanging around his neck, as he grasps it and mutters a quick incantation.

He doesn't say anything right away, but he acts like he is waiting for more arrivals.

Male elf 1 rouge

Keselous's smile and easy going attitude falter as they land on the holy symbol of the man before them, it was too often that to clerics and paladin's sought justice versus crime opposed to justice versus the world. He casually streches and paces across the room butting the giant mash between himself and the Cleric of Iomedae, who is obviously waiting on more arrivals. if this was some sort of sting, he was going to be pissed.

We have everyone here except Vagin and Desvartes.

Ate my post. Note that the name is now Raff rather than Vagin.

Raff comes in shortly after Cole. He scans the room and moves to stand next to his brother. There is a familial resemblance between them, but Raff is tall where his brother is wide. He is unarmored and carries only a dagger.

Cole looks over at his brother with a questioning look in his eyes, and finally speaks, his voice rough and hoarse sounding, Must this be done?"

"Greetings Mash. I am Erodel." Turning his attention to the previously easy going elf, "I would imagine that we are all here for the same purpose. I could be wrong I supose...but that doesn't happen that often"

While doing his best to remain as inconspicuous as possible Keselous very slowly reaches for the handle of his morningstar and readies himself for whatever is coming next. It is hanging from a thin leather cord at his belt and looks to be extremely well crafted. The cloak over his shoulders covers the majority of his actions. a bead of sweat builds on his forehead.

"You don't have to be here." Raff is immediately sorry for lashing out at his brother. The tough guy routine still comes naturally to him.
"Though I am glad that you are. And no, we don't have to do this. I hope that this will allow me to continue to grow while earning an honest wage. Of course if you want, I know of a guy who could use guys with our talents." He looks to his brother with a grin.

Noticing the sweat starting to bead on the elf's brow, Erodel studies him a bit more carefully.

"Ease your mind. There is nothing here to worry yourself about...at least as of yet." the mage says trying to convince himself as much as Keselous.

Cole pays little attention to the elf, his attention remains fixed on his brother. "No thank you, that one makes my skin crawl. This job troubles me though. That item we are transporting...is magical".

Male elf 1 rouge

after hearing what the ruff and tumble brothers were saying Keselous breathes a heavy sigh of relief and visibly calms.

I think you are right Erodel, in fact I think the world may have just brightened a bit. if in fact the cleric was here to work with them then, they could use that necklace of his to open doors that would normally be closed. excellent.

"That makes it or our erstwhile employer evil? Maybe it just has some sort of defensive measure to help keep it safe."

The tall, lithe figure'd half-elf saunters casually into the reasonably packed room. His expensive clothes cut and tailored to accentuate his duelists frame. The rapier swinging at his hip a masterful built weapon, though the scabbard it rests in is also well made, but plain. There are no fancy baubles to hinder the blade's draw from its sheath.

He smiles a little as he glances around at every one lese standing or seated.

"Greetings, well met." He gives a slight, semi-formal half bow. "Desvartes..." He says simply in way of introducing himself.

Perception:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16

He glances at his comrades, noting their postures and stances,

"...Have I missed something, perhaps?" He asks, a half smile playing upon his features.

Cole looks up at the final arrival, and stares at him for a few seconds, trying to determine something, before he give an ackknowledging nod. Seeing everyone has arrived, he speaks, "I am not here to betray you now, although this job doesn't make me comfortable...at all. I was hired here to simply keep all of you alive." he speaks with a rasping vioce, and then you all notice the scar on his face, running from his right temple down to his throat.

The tapestry at the far end of the room is pushed aside and your (you assume) employer walks into the room. He is a handsome, aristocratically dressed half-elf, younger than most people would expect the landlord, and crime-lord, of the Globe to be. He surveys the group before going to stand about five feet away from the desk. "Well met," he says, with a smile that can't help but be reassuring. "I'm grateful that you all took your time to answer my advertisement."

Oh well, I was hoping to get a one on that.

Cole hears the honeyed words, and is put at ease, somewhat.

Raff gives a quick glance at his brother.

The young lord nods in acknowledgment of their words. He reaches out and picks up the packet, with the air of one handling a sleeping viper. "This treasure needs to be brought to a friend of mine in the north. The journey through that country can be harrowing, which is why I sent out an advertisement for those willing to face danger instead of giving the task to a few of my servants. My friend will, of course, pay you handsomely upon completion of the journey. This must be top secret."

I have to leave for a little, I'll post later.

Erodel nods in acknowledgement of the young half-elf's greeting, waiting to hear more.

The nobleman opens a drawer in the desk and gets out a scroll. "This is a map of the path to Haven, if you accept this job." He opens the packet and rolls a fist-sized back sphere onto the table. "This treasure, which is called the Ambar, can be... dangerous. It's best to keep it concealed." He returns it to the packet. "This mission is of utmost importance, and the Ambar cannot fall into the hands of the monsters. I apologize for being so vague, but secrecy is necessary, and my friend will tell you more when you arrive. My friend's name is John Sylvercye. You can trust him, and the cleric Ashei." He sounds sincere.

"Can you give us descriptions of both John and Ashei? And how will they know we carry the...item in question?"

"And what sort of monsters might it be we are trying to keep this item from?"

"The pay will be upward of three hundred gold pieces for each of you. The land is rather rugged, though I wouldn't expect you to encounter anything more ferocious than a lone dire wolf.
John is a human wizard of rather high standing in Haven, he is the head of the library. He is thirty-some years old, black-haired and blue-eyed and with a rather dark, for this region, complexion. Ashei is a human cleric of Cayden Cailean. She is head of the temple and perhaps the most powerful person in Haven. She is no older than thirty, with light brown hair and green eyes. I have something else to give you that you can give to them, rather inconspicuous but it will let them know that you carry the treasure.
I hope that the monsters will be unaware that the treasure is leaving Luskan, but if some do try and take it from you they shall likely be hired mercenaries, goblins and such." The half-elf removes something from the drawer and sets it beside the packet. It looks like a battered compass.

Male Elf (Aquatic) Fighter 1

Desvartes looks from the 'package' to the compass.

"Well, I suggest we head off into town. Check around for some good maps detailing where we're going and get a couple of boxes." He stands straighter and stretches, then bows formally to Kyras Thyl'inn,

"We shall endeavor to the best of our abilities to deliver that which you have entrusted to us, M'lord." Straightening, he looks to his new found traveling companions, an eyebrow arched.

Hmm, must have fallen asleep in class that day, he he.

"I like the gold, but there's been more than enough talk for me. It's hurting my head. If you need me, I'll be at the tavern waiting for you guys."

Mash begins to make his way to the local tavern, and commences to buy the strongest, foulest tasting ale they have on tap.

edit: grammar

"I admit, I am anxious for the mission to be underway," Kyras says. He hands a rolled up map to Desvartes. "That should be sufficient." He puts the package in a pouch that hangs on a cord, and hands it to Erodel, who can almost the feel the magic it exudes. "Do not lose this, and you may want to make use of the wayfinder on your way there." He pushes the "compass" across the table. "You may stay in this house tonight, free of charge. Food and rations for the journey will be supplied for you."

He looks in mild surprise after the half-orc. "You don't have to sleep here, of course."

Liberty's Edge

Mash was probably too hasty in his decision to leave the conversation, but standing around and listening were never his forte. He will buy drinks and spend gold on a room come nightfall unless another character wishes to inform the half-orc of his folly.

"I thank you for your hospitality. Perhaps you or one of your servants could show us to our quarters for the evening?"

Once Erodel is in his quarters for the evening, he will study the Ambar through use of detect magic, knowledge(arcana), spellcraft, and use magic device

Kyras shows everyone to their rooms, and shows them where the bar is.

Erodel:
The Ambar is a pure black sphere no more than five inches in diameter, with a very faint luminescence. Its aura is astonishingly strong, evocation magic. Strangely, there seem to be traces of other kinds of magic as well. There seems to be movement at the center of its aura, and it almost seems to posses a personality. While obviously magical, its purpose is not so easily discerned. If you study it for an hour or more, make a will save.

Having had his initial curiousity satisfied, Erodel will go to the bar to partake of a bit of wine and food, and perhaps get to know his soon to be traveling companions a bit better.

3 rounds detect magic, 3 rounds for the spellcraft attempt, plus a round for UMD - overall less than 15 minutes of study. For Yucale:

Spoiler:
that being said, if you feel that I would have studied the object longer, I will make the save.

No, just if you ever do study it for an hour or more, then make the save. Not plot-essential. And is anyone going to tell Mash about the free lodging?

Male Elf (Aquatic) Fighter 1

Desvartes smiles and thanks Kyras, though showing proper respect for the gentleman's' social rank. Perhaps even engaging him in polite conversation until every one retires for the evening.

Willing to simply chat and pass time until the 'morrow of the next day dawns. As for Mash? Send a servant to give the Half-Orc the details?

Hey there Tyr...err Desvartes :)

Cole will stick close to his brother, and make sure he doesn't get too drunk before the evening comes to a close. He tries to avoid conversation as much as possible, as you can see it is painful for Cole to talk too loudly, his throat was damaged when he was a child, Raff will tell you all.

We shall get, the items to the destination. Thanks. I am going to go find our impatient muscle, he might not be up for talking business, but he looks useful in a tumble.

After the initial meeting, he will go and try to find Mash before he gets too far.
