True Dungeon: Worth doing, but I'm sure it is long sold out. You can get on a waiting list outside the ballroom. If you're flexible, and don't mind going with any group with a single open spot, you shouldn't have any trouble getting in at some point.

ehhh... maybe next time... The one game I really wanted to get into was a White Wolf game run by their developers... But I forgot to log on when the tickets opened, and they where sold out before I got on....grrrr... Also want to play some pathfinder... That is all I am interested in for gaming..Wanted to get into a living Star Wars game, but it does not seem to be around anymore, and I am not interested in Living Realms, because I hate the realms, anyone know when Living Xen'drik is supposed to start up?... wish they still had living Greyhawk :-(

As a Con virgin, I would love to tool around with the other newbies.

Though I will demand some of the "hanging around" involve booze, which I love more than I love myself. :P

count me in ... only Con I have ever been to was ChimeraCon in Chapel Hill when I was in school ... more of a sci-fi gathering though, not too much gaming going on at that one.

Booze must consist of quality stuff ... none of that Urglin rotgut that Ven Vinder had ... nasty stuff that.

Booze. I want excellent beer myself!

Excuse me, most excellent beer.

We'll need someone to step up and be a n'wah wrangler, the guy has a weird habit of touching live power lines. I'm sure the advanced drunkies only makes it worse.

I've played at a couple of cons where the GM was pretty hammered at a game, and it was a good time.

You haven't lived until you've GM'ed while drunk. I recommend it at least once. Helps if the table is in a similar condition, or if there's not much complex combat going on, though. All those stats and spells start to get... fuzzy after a bottle of pinot grigio. :P

And they weren't, like, live wires or anything. It was the support cables they use to keep the power lines up. But I did kinda fly at them since I was jumping a curb, so the impact was about as painful as the massive shock would've been.

And Zuxuis, I'd be happy to point you to some mighty fine craft beers while you're at the Con. Do you have a particular style you love above the others, or do you just want some quality libations regardless? 'Cuz you can't go back home without sampling the IPAs the Pacific Northwest is famous for.

Well, as stated, I am bringing my homemade beer to PaizoCon. The best beer in town will be pulling up in a Toyota Camry when I get there. Make no mistake. I will drink the great beers Seattle is renown for, but I will create my own "Beer Cult" at PaizoCon by the time this is over. I make the best beer you have ever tasted in your entire life.

And, I am arrogant about it too....

Well, thats it, I'm participating on a drunken game!

So who's in? I have a funny PFS adventure (and I mean funny) in the queue so I'm willing to run it (or let someone else do it) ON A DRUNK STATE. I mean it. I think this would be a memorable event (as long as the participants are fun drunks, not annoying ones).

This would require a keg of beer. Pretty big idea, but a party needs a keg. No Bud. No Coors. No Miller. Just some ESB. Maybe I will pick some up at the brewery.

I try all beers. Everything. I am not closed minded to a particular set. I am a bit disturbed by the Fruitful Colory Tomatoey brands that over power beer, basically wine coolerizing them.

My girlfriend and I have only been gaming for just over a year now, and the list of games under our belts is pretty short. We decided to attend Paizo-con as our "one year gaming anniversary". I've never been to a convention and am pretty nervous. I know to bring sanitary supplies, snacks, waters, comfy shoes, papers, pencils, dice, etc, but what about books? I only own D&D 3.5 and 4th ed books, and don't know many other games. I'm hoping to sign up for plenty of games to expand my repertoire. And do I bring my own characters, based on the games I signed up for, or are premade characters available? And a few extra for open games? Sorry about all the "noob" questions, but I'm shelling out alot of money to make this trip and I want to make sure I'm completely prepared.

I'd love to join PFS, but there's no games within 50 miles of where I live : (

Any more tips that haven't already been posted here would be greatly appreciated. I'm nervous as all hell, but looking forward to a few days of awesome gaming and meeting the people who makes the great pathfinder games.

A good pilsner, a good lager, a good stout, a good porter, a good IPA, a good ESB, a good ... ah hell, if it's good bring it on!

So do you do all-grain for your brews? And what hops are you using (specifically for the pilsner ... but feel free to expand for all brews ;) )?

For D&D games, bring your PH (whatever edition you're playing).

Canticle wrote:

The event description should say if the event is for newer players; obviously they wouldn't expect you to have the rulebook if it's an intro-to event.

The event description should say if characters are provided. :)

For open gaming, bring a character or two, but be prepared to create one on the spot, just in case.

My hope is to go to all grain, because you have the most control over your flavor that way. We have a huge "shop" which we plan to get electricity to. When we have the middle age man's version of the "Mad Laboratory" we will commence all grain. We also plan to open shop and sell beer supplies. For now, it is hobby beers.

For many of our best, we are using Wilder Hops. They call them "Special Hops", but I belive they are very light to the senses. We actually do not know if they are Northern Brewer, Cascade, Goulding or anything in particular. We picked them from the farmer's field in Wilder Idaho! They were brown and off the ground, since their 18 foot hangers were bear as can be.

We did a few experiments on the Hops of the Cascade variety. We put Cascade Hops on a soaked cedar board and roaseted them in a Hibachi Clay Barbecue. The green hops turned brown, and the cedar flavor steamed into them. This has created a smoother less hoppy beer.

For the moment, we use Munton's Extract Extra Light Dry. We also use a Pale Ale Wet Malt. We use Rice Extracts (Dry). We have a Dark Extract (Wet). We also have Wheat Extract (Dry).

The beers themselves are all very unique in some ways and similar in others. They are all Lagers. They are of the light variety, except 2. A Wheat Lager and a Dark Lager.

As we speak they are out in the garage fermenting the last of the priming sugar for carbonation. They were astounding as flat beers.

I am very proud of my beers. More proud than my submission for RPG Superstar....by a long shot.

Share and share a like is what I say.... from where I come from!

As I mentioned before, I've never been to a convention, so I'm not sure what to expect. I was wondering how much of it is going to be roleplaying pathfinder games vs like games of Kill Doctor Lucky, etc? I'm sure I'm going to feel stupid when the answer rolls in, but I'm just trying to get a feel of what to expect. I've only been roleplaying for a year, and the Pathfinder adventure path is absolutely mind-blowing. I'm hoping to spend 3 days just roleplaying with other paizo fans, while buying some awesome merchandise. I just wish the core rulebook would be released then so I could have one signed by all the talented people who bring my life so much joy!

Well I wasn't around for PaizoCon #1, but at other cons I've been too there are usually some people who bring board games or card games to play, either to fill time between events, a chance of page to refresh their mind, something to get the kids involved in, etc.

Also, it wouldn't be a bad idea for us to have those big mailing-label stickers; that way we could all sign them and when you get the Pathfinder RPG you could slap it in your book. That way you'd have a signed book even if you weren't able to go to PaizoCon and GenCon....

The Exchange

I'm surprised at all the threads that contain references to alcohol consumption. Am I missing an aspect of the gaming culture?

That's a great idea...If you could manage that, I would be eternally grateful. In fact, I'd buy you dinner... Plus, that's massive incentive for people who haven't bought a badge yet to get on board...

Why would gamers be so very different from any other group when it comes to alcohol? We are just people, after all, and those of us who have been playing since close to the point of origin for RPGs are just slightly over legal drinking age by now. ;)

On the serious side, a lot of the home brewers I have known are gamers; same goes for folks who make their own wine. There is a definite segment of the gamer population who enjoy doing this, just as there is a segment of mundane society that enjoys doing it as well. No real difference there.

Additionally, at this point, when I am gaming, it's really about being able to hang out with friends in a relaxing environment. Sometimes we drink beer/wine/rum/whatever as we're gaming, much like others would while playing cards, or hanging out and watching a movie. So I don't really consider an "aspect of gaming culture" per se. More just members of the gaming community bringing in broader social aspects to the game.

Besides, when PCs are in a tavern and order ale, it isn't ginger ale they're drinking. Why should they be the only ones? ;)

I'm all for a good drink; I just don't usually imbibe around the gaming table. (Most) of my characters are usually sober when they're dungeon-crawling, I figure it would behoove me to do the same. (Besides, it's hard enough playing a character with an 18 wisdom without the deficit of a couple of Jack-n-Cokes in the system.)

If anyone wants to wander over to the hotel lounge after a game to unwind and talk about the adventure, I'm all for it. I'll have to pass on the homebrew...on account of the fact that I...um, Ireallydon'tlikebeer.

Zuxius, is your homebrew bottled? I'd love to bring a bottle home, as well as breaking my dietary restrictions (nothing dangerous; gluten just gives me a really bad stomachache, and causes problems "further down the line," to not go into detail) and trying your stuff.

I love beer, and beer culture, and even though I can't really drink it, I celebrate it whenever possible. I also love spreading the good stuff to people, so if you've got a bottle to give, I've got hardcore beer geeks who want to try it.

And if you haven't tried the Arrogant Bastard, you've gotta, at least once. American strong ale, baby. Hell, I can probably smuggle in some Double Bastard, too, so you can have the bigger, more arrogant brother. Stone is one of the big SoCal-style standard-bearers (SoCal beer culture slogan: "big hops, ALL THE TIME"), and Arrogant Bastard is their flagship brew. It's like drinking the essence of the SoCal scene condensed into one 22-oz. bomber. Bear Republic's Racer 5 is also a must-have, and if somehow Anchor's Steam Beer from further up north in San Fran (my hometown brewery, so I gotta give some love) has passed you by, it's a must-drink as well.

God, I could go on forever. I'll shut up now. :P

And Hugo, count me in. :D

The Exchange

Yes N'wah, yes. My beer is bottled.

It will be in 32 oz bottles. There will be mugs. There will be pitchers. There will be gifts.

Arrogant Bastard Beer is not in Elko NV. I have searched all the beers selections in town. So you will have to direct me to one in Seattle.

I will see you there at the dinner!

Or around the boards in the meantime!

Can't wait to see what you think.

Count me in on the beer tasting [edit: I should add: please!]. My wife and I have experimented with brewing a bit. Out of five or so batches (all pretty tasty) the best was when we ended up burning the malt a little bit because we forgot to turn off the burner as we added it.

I have to say that was darned-near the best beer I've ever had. I ended up only getting about of a six-pack out of two cases because we made the mistake of sharing some with the neighbors. They kept coming back for more... :)

I will gladly partake of your brew as well. I used to dabble...I got a Mr. Beer brew kit several years back, and made some batches. I also helped a friend brew some big batches at his house, and we'd buy a whole bunch of different beers to taste while we were doing it, too. Fun!

As for finding Arrogant Bastard beer around here....it's in most grocery stores. Easy to find. We may want to visit the Malt and Vine in Redmond so you can look at a large selection, though. You seem to be that kind of person that would enjoy browsing the beer coolers (like me!).

Dinner could be the Salmon House, but I chose the Crab Pot because:
1) there's one close to the hotel in Bellevue
2) you get a mallet and cracker and get to literally beat your food on the table.
3) They have burgers and sandwiches for folks that don't like seafood.

The Crab Pot ain't necessarily cheap, though. Prices are $15-$33 per person for their Sea Feasts, which are the best. You order a big bowl of seafood, they dump in on the table, and pick up the mallet and GO!
