The Last War Campaign: Players needed.

Hi. I am looking for players for a Last War campaign in Eberron. What I would like to do would be to run a game over the century of conflict or close to it. Players could have major effects on the war, do heroic things, but I plan to not have events in-game alter the prescribed history.
A few things to keep in mind if you are interested:
3.5 rules.
*Demihumans or longevic races have preference (since they could possibly see the beginning and (hopefull)end of the war.
*Humans and other short lived races could be used if longevic feat(s) are taken.
* 3rd level to start; an elite group.
*All standard classes and Eberron items (with just a few execptions as they have not been invented yet) are availiable.
*All alignments (except chaotic evil) are available BUT players must be loyal to their company, squad, country etc.
*the missions/adventures will be a mix of battles, quests, dungeon crawl, resques, heroics. It won't all be battlefield related.

Also, all players should arguably come from the same nation. The campaign could play out differently depending on which nation we choose to represent. Options for countries for this campaign include Audair, Eldeen Reaches(part of Aundair I know, but still), Breland, Thrane, Karranth, Breland, Mror Holds. Droaam, Zilargo, Q'Barra(if lizardman), Dargunn, and the Lhazzar are not nations to be represented, but possibly sites of origin.

So, this is the idea I would like to run. Hit me back if you would like to give it a try, and or have some suggestions. Looking for 3-5 players

I'd be interested in giving this a try but I am not familiar with the Ebberon setting at all. If thats not an issue I would be willing to play any race/class that would help the group. Sounds like everyone would have to agree on some of these things during character creation anyway.

Shadow Lodge

sounds good but i have school mon, tue, and thur. i don't get home intull 12:00am

I'll tip my hat into this... any books left out or brought in for other non OGL stuff?

The reason I ask is I'm looking at a changling of some flavor, and races of destiny and races of stone have my attention right now.

This sounds interesting. Let me think on it.

Scarab Sages

I'd join in that.

Scarab Sages

Anyone have ideas for what Nation we might use? Also remember that dragonmarked characters need not be part of the actual nation, and if we're starting at the beginning, then there are no Warforged up and about.

I'd be interested in playing one of the following, a shifter scout type (not long lived tho), a dragonmarked something, or possibly a marshall, if available.

Shadow Lodge

Oooh, yes yes. Quite interested.

What character I create will largely depend on what nation or faction we are representing.

Do we want to choose a nation? (Karrnath?) A dragonmarked house (Cannith?), an adventuring group (order of the emerald claw?), a religious or cult based group (cult of the dragon below?)

I really like the idea about being a part of a team, of any sort, right from the start.

I'm interested. Would you allow the Factotem class from Dungeonscape? In any case, I'm leaning towards a dwarf factotem or rogue.

I am very open to most character concepts but not all alignments (see above). The factotem is not a problem, though like all classes, problems may arise because of your class choice. If you are ok with that, play him. Then again, there are pitfalls for every class choice so maybe it doesn't really matter... anyway, it sounds interesting. I have access to many RPG materials. So, if I have it, and have read it, you can try it. That is the general rule.

School is an issue for me ( I teach) so I understand if people can't post everyday, but it is best to try as it moves the game along and keeps everyone interested.

Five characters (NPCs will come and go). I can start this after the 19th I think. It is best for me if we were all from Aundair/Eldeen Reaches, but Mror Holds are good too (I say this because I already have some campaign ideas for these). It is up to all of use however, so please state your opinion and I will judge which option seems most popular.

No knowledge of the setting is not a problem. It works well actually. Don't worry about it. If I confuse you, let me know and I will provide more information if your character would have access to it.

If you are serious about getting in, please post a character as soon as possible: 32pt buy in. Magic items can be chosen at the beginning of the game as it is a high magic world but you are limited to 3rd level PC limit. Hint: don't just try for magic weapons/armor. Your problems won't always be solvable with combat. Backgrounds add experience points, so please write one (doesn't have to be too long).

Also, I should warn you, I put characters in difficult, but not impossible situations. Sometimes, cooperation will be the only way to do something, or retreat, or thinking outside the box. The campaign tone will be gritty/ real in many ways. For example, I like to pay attention to weather, pain from injuries, wether you are eating drinking enough etc. With that in mind, feats like Endurance, skill focus, and similar non-combat feats could be useful.

Interested if the spot is open. Vague knowledge of Eberron.

Wonderful! I was thinking either:

Changling Spellthief --> Chameleon

or something maybe a bit more odd:

Changling racial wizard (maybe with focused specialist) 5 --> stoneblessed (gnome) 3 --> Recaster 5 --> shadowcraft mage 5 (possble from stoneblessed) --> Heir of Siberys 2

I would probably give up evocation, enchantment, necromacy, and conjuration for the focused racial wizard. If possible I might use the Racial Emulation feat for changlings instead of the stoneblessed prestige class, up to the GM really..

Another question: Are we using pathfinder classes or "regular" 3.5 classes?

Edit: I saw the answer to my question after I asked it:

Probably go with that second build if it is ok'd

The first build would be a Becomer type of changling, the second would probably be a reality seeker.

First

Spoiler:

Changling Spell Thief

Str 12 Int 14
Dex 16 Wis 10
Con 12 Cha 14

Feats:
Able Learner
Quick Change

Second concept

Spoiler:

Changling Racial Wizard 3 (focused Specialist)
Banned schools: Evocation, Enchantment, Necromacy, Conjuration

Str 8 Int 18
Dex 14 Wis 10
Con 10 Cha 14

Feats:
Widen Spell (first)
Scribe Scroll (bonus)
Sculpt Spell (third)

This character would have been raised by gnomes and has a deep and abiding respect for them and their culture.

I don't know enough to choose a region, but I'm more than willing to adapt my character as needed to fit into an already established "party".

Last Edit:

I've changed my mind... last time though:

Changling Wizard (non-racial) --> recaster --> Archmage

Each option sounds fine. Just make sure in character creation that you have the correct number of feats, character points and skill points are spent properly, and the like. I will be able to comment more once I see the build.

I would love to include everybody but I am not that good to keep 7+ players engaged in equal and exciting ways.

So with that in mind it will be first come, first served. If you want in please make up a charcter as soon as you can and post it. The first five will play. I would like to get going on this in a week or so. That way we can make some headway over the Christmas break.

if there are questions or suggestions please let me know.

Shadow Lodge

We need to decide where we're going to be from.

If we're in the Eldeen reaches, I'd like to play a Dragonmarked Human of House Vadalis, perhaps a ranger or Druid.

If we're in the Mror Holds, I'd like to play a Dwarf rogue, loosely associated with House Kundarak.

If we're in Aundair, that opens things up to be a bit more cosmopolitan, especially if we're starting in Passage or Fairhaven. I am leaning toward a jovial halfling cleric of Olladra.

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 16

Without Knowing the setting or any of the factions its hard to make a charater concept. So I will toss out a basio framework and then flesh out the details with the other PC's as we "build" our group making any changes needed as we finish making characters. (If I am selected of course).

I would like to try a Duskblade from the PHB2. I'm thinking elf but I could change that to fit the faction if needed. My first inclination is a swashbuckler type with a saber. Bacground is working as a privateer (dosn't Ebberon have flying ships?) for the nation/faction working to disrupt our eneimes supplylines. Like I said I can sdjust as needed.

In terms of setting priority: My vote is for the Eldeen Reaches. My second choice is for Mror Holds (personally very fond of dwarves...that's right, I said 'fond'- old soul here). More feedback on this please so we can come to a consensus. That will help in creating characters. Aundair would be my third choice.

I will select those that have complete characters first. Since I know none of you, but would like to befriend you all, this seems the most fair. Basic character types that can be tweeked later to fit the setting are accecptable.

If you have no idea of the setting, just make up a character that is capable to fit the 100 year campaign and post it. If you still want to vote, I suggest choosing something general like "Iwant to be from a forest region, or cosmopolitan area, or mountains," etc.

Scarab Sages

OK, Eldeen Reaches works for me, I'll think of concept later, Elven something, if this were Pathfinder I'd play a bard, but, instead I'll probably play something else. I try to create my character over the weekend.

Elven Wizard, I decided, all races of elf available? If so I'll make a moon elf.

Ok, I still don't mind which region we start in, go to, or which house we belong to if we go that route.

Here's what I got:

Spoiler:

Changling
Racial Wizard 3 (banned: Necromancy, Enchantment, Evocation) -- Races of Eberron
Chains of Disbelief (no familiar, better illusions) -- Unearthed Arcana
Transmutable Memory (no bonus spells at fifth level I'll be able to switch spells out though) -- Unearthed Arcana

Stats:
8 Str 14 Dex 10 Con 18 Int 10 Wis 14 Cha

Feats:
Able Learner
Scribe Scroll
Quicken Spell

If Flaws are available:
Non-Combatant (flaw) for Collegiate Wizard

Skills: 4 + 4 Int Mod x 4 = 32 + 6 + 6 = 44
Bluff 5 ranks
Concentration 5 Ranks
Disguise 4 ranks
Sleight of Hand 4 ranks
Spellcraft 6 ranks
Disable Device 3 ranks
Search 3 ranks
Knowledge(arcana) 6 ranks
Move Silently 3 ranks
Hide 3 ranks
Discipher Script 6 ranks

Character Advancement:

Spoiler:

Wizard 5
Bonus Feat - Sculpt Spell

Recaster 3 levels
6th level feat - Spell Focus(Illusion)
9th level feat - Spell Focus(Transmutation)
Geometer 5 levels
Recaster 2 levels
Archmage 5 levels

Character Background:

Spoiler:

Kept having trouble in wizard school... other apprentices would complain of him staring at them then changing form into them, minor tools would go missing... was just generally creepy. The real problem was boredom. It was "suggested" that he go join "company X" (whatever the party is) before something untoward happened in a lab accident. Joined the party and hasn't looked back since. Is a skilled spy/pick pocket/wizard. Believes magic is much more mutable than most believe and is out to prove it.

What will our starting wealth be?

Well I have a name, just not an Identity yet, if the Changeling is gonna be a wizard, I don't know if I should play one also, course I wouldn't be an illusionist. Perhaps a Mindblade instead...

(EDIT: Since we have a Wizard I will play a War Blade instead, never gotten a chance to play one.)

and for pronunciation it's Kay-yay-eth...welsh inflections of the double Ls and Ds.

Alright, I'm going with the dwarf factotum. Here's what I have so far. Also, I vote for Aundair or the Eldeen Reaches.

Scarab Sages

Oh Man, I jusr reemembered that dwarf dragonmark feat for thrown daggers, Sting of the Manticore or something...If consensus swings toward Mror Hold, I'll take one of those instead of my Elf...damn I may do that anyway, I always liked dagger ranged rogues...I'll try to stat them both up and figure out which I want...

Yeah I would like to use the shadowcraft mage, but I can't find a way that doesn't either require me to give up 3 caster levels or go absolute cheesy. So I'll do without I guess.

I ve got the stats but I have to do everything else still. I am for the elves or at least where elves would be easily worked in. I dont know anything about the dragon marks so if one of those would fit my concept Please give me some suggetions. I still like the duskblade privateer idea. I can work the concept to other races if needed. Im busy this weekend so I hope to finish it up monday morning.

Actually a duskblade privateer sounds like a great fit to the party to me. Gives a solid fighter type with great aces up his sleeve.

So far everyone can do at least a little arcane magic of some type, and the factorum and wizard are sleathy types too. I think this is going to be neat.

uh, warblades don't do arcane ;)

would lesser mark of shadow work for a duskblade?

Ok... so everyone except the warblade can do something arcane...

The warblade just does wierd wire fu stuff that isn't magic but also not possible by the rules of physics...

I'll still take it. Only thing we don't have yet is some form of healer, and I'll grab some use magic device later, and if need be use my two out of class spells from recaster to get some more healing for us... I'll also have bear's endurance to 'help' some too... I'll need to look in the spell compendium and around to see if I can't find anything else to help out some.

Shadow Lodge

Well, I was leaning toward Ranger if we are in the Eldeen Reaches, but I think I'll go into Druid instead.

As we're from the Eldeen Reaches, a druid from Warden of the Wood sect makes sense. I think I'll skip the dragonmark, though I could certainly still have some connection with House Vadalis.

Patrick, I have 'Faiths of Eberron', do you? I'll do my best to use the material provided there for the foundation of his faith and background, but if you don't have it, I'll try to make things more general.

Yes, I have that and many others. If you guys want to try and prestige to something other than corps (provided that you survive), we can work that out. I have alot to do today, so I will review characters tomorrow and see what we have.

Eldeen Reaches it is, if everyone is fine with that. If you have much on the Eberron setting, try to remember to limit character knowledge from player knowledge. If you have no knowledge of the setting, taking a skill or two in history, geography etc would legitimize a great deal of info.

Alright. From what I have seen so far, we have five characters

Xdahnx - Druid Warden of the Wood 3rd (elf?)
Kealleadd Moonglade - Warblade 3rd (elf)
Kael Spellspinner - Wizard 3rd(Changeling)
Master Ruik - Factotem 3rd (Dwarf)
Sillabareil Ballerino- Duskblade 3rd (elf?)

Iam I forgetting anyone? Sorry if I mispelled the names, I did this in a bit of a rush.

I really need you guys to get your characters up and running so I can check them.

To help this along, remember:
-No CE;
-2700gp to start(avoid magic weapons/armor though, for now; this world has alot of magic but I feel the flavor of that magic is more pervasive low level stuff mostly. To fit in with that theme, feel free to take any potion, ring, wand, minor magic item, salve, tattoo, food, scroll, etc that you want, but no weapons and armor)- and don't forget mundane gear too, not everything will be issued.
-I do like to use flaws. Those from unearthed Arcana are fine or you can make up your own. In return for these debilitating flaws, you get an extra feat. You can have up to two flaws, BUT the flaws have to be debilitating in a moderate way (not liking the color blue, doesn't count). Also, I like the idea of backgrounds used in some settings (e.g. Pathfinder), one background per character is fine.
- all classes chosen are fine and I will try to make adventures to fit, but please remember that not everything will be solved by combat or through spells, etc.

Also Ruik:

Spoiler:
I need you to help me make sense of some of your skills. Could you please break them down for me such that I see ranks,+ability+synergy+misc, for now. Once I get it, the '+12' etc will be fine.

Kael

Spoiler:
your skill ranks totaled seem to be 4 higher than indicated at the start of your skill section (44 pts). Please correct this.

Changed to a Swordsage, as I took the Least Mark of Shadow, and I thought the Shadow Hand stuff worked much better for a d'Phiarlan...plus d12 always seemed a bit odd for an elf.

How are we doing hit points by the way?

Patrick Murphy wrote:
Master Ruik, Dwarf Factotum

Well, other than a missed 'r' and the inexplicable addition of "Master", that's right.

Also, added the explanations to the skill totals and I'm currently totaling the equipment.

Actually I'm going to be a human.

Slowly but surely hacking away at the details.

Coming soon is his background, including where he got his name, and how he came about his animal companion, and even more importantly, where this strange mark appeared from, and why it makes people so friendly toward him...

Would it be possible to use the Flaws/Hubris from the Swashbucking Adventure setting? They have much more flavor than the UA flaws.

examples would be:

Envious: Once per day, the DM or another player can activate your hubris in order to get you to covet something belonging to someone else. You should attempt to get it.

Hedonistic: Once per day, the DM or another player can activate your hubris to get you to relax your guard and have a good time.

Ok I'll be an elf Duskblade Privateer. I don't know anything about the Edeen Reaches so If some one could post a few highlights that might help me with a background I would appriceate it. Also I have in my mind that Ebberron has flying ships, or dirigibles. Is it this right??? It will make a difference on the spells I take. I finish the character tomarrow morning.

Yes, there are airships in Eberron, unless you're from a specific house, you won't get one.

The Eldeen reaches are part of Aundair at the beginning of the Last War, it's a heavily forest area, agriculture is the primary work. A great many druids inhabit the Eldeen Reaches.

Ebberron has them, I don't know if they are around before the war... You'll probably be from a town like Varna, or Merylsward or Cree... Those are the big ones from my understanding.

The Eldreen Reachs state they belonged to Aundair before the war... is this correct? I don't think it makes a huge difference I just want to make sure I have the basics correct before we start.

I fixed my skills.

Would a Magebred Valenar Riding horse be available?

If a spot's still open can have a Dwarf Dragon Shaman posted by day's end.

Stats, skills, spells are done. Still need to finish off gear and magic items and sundrie math (hp ac ect..)

I'm mostly done, have to get more gear and iron out some numbers. No background yet either...

since I'm Phiarlan, maybe I was hired?

ok. You guys are really great posters. Cool. Keep it up.

* HP: Max at 1st roll after that. Use Invisible Castle for rolling. you can link to that site here

*Faress:

Spoiler:
If you wish to be human, please take the longevity feat or, if you do not wish to do that, be aware that your character may be forced to retire depending on how much time goes by before you reach adequate levels for age to not be a problem.

*surprisingly not familiar with swashbuckling setting (I am with Freeport though) so no feats from that. I do have several books on feats from different companies so keep the questions coming.

* Airships have not been invented yet, nor have the warforged, or a couple other minor details.

*Magebred Horse is availiable if you have the coin and a viable story as to how you accquired it. ( Dazzle me- make appropriate rolls if you have to).

* please finish characters as soon as you are able. I would like to start by the 19th-20th. I will try to post everyday. I will post info on the background of the setting as I intend to use it. If you get/have materials on Eberron, please remember that I will not necessarily stick to what you may have read. Please continue to help each other about background (for now) or ask me directly.

*just because we are attached to Aundair/Eldeen Reaches does not mean you originated there per se. Loyalty to houses is alright (to a point).

Vulcan. I would love to have you play, but I really don 't know if I can handle six or more players. I am willing to try though if you get your character done ASAP.

Also, I must note that with the inclusion of another player it will take away some thunder from the others, so I will approve you with their blessing ok?

Shadow Lodge

Why do I have to be forced into taking a longevity feat? Or choosing a race I may not want to play?

The lifespan of any of the other party members is no less assured than Faress'...

I think it's since he wants to have you be able to last to the end of the war, some hundred years later...of course I guess you could always try to get longevity items down the line?

OK where can other flaws be found?

Do you have access to Iron Heroes? I know that has backgrounds as well.

Hey, Patrick, I have an idea, I would like you to consider, it might not even end up mattering, but still:

I would like to add in a feat called "Racial Specialization". It would have as a prerequisite "Racial Emulation", and would read as follows:

Spoiler:

Racial Specialization
Your familiarity with one race allows you to easily adopt their mindset and mannerisms no matter your physical form.
Prerequisites: Changling, Racial Emulation
Effect: Choose one race, you are always considered a member of this race no matter what shape you choose with your minor shape change ability. This feat may only be taken once, and once taken you may not change which race you have specialized in.
Normal: With Racial Emulation you are only considered a member of that race while using your minor shape change ability to resemble that race.

If you don't like it, I'll live no problem:

IF anyone else knows of something like this that already exists let me know please?

Kaellead, I don't know if all of these will pass muster but here is a list of some extra flaws:

Wiki homebrew character options

Shadow Lodge

Oh, but this game is all about being creative, and using our imaginations, no?

If we really do have to flash-forward in time, there are a number of options for me to continue playing. First of all, of course, is as an older druid. Secondly, Faress certainly intends to have children; he could definitely raise them in his tradition. Perhaps they would even be more long lived as a half-elf. *nudges Kael*

Hell, the Archdruid of Faress' organization is an Awakened tree.

There's lots of things to be done to keep my character in the story, and I certainly refuse to believe that humans didn't play any decisive roles in the war...

Don't druids get a timelessness thing as well? Or they can?

Shadow Lodge

Yes, only 12 levels away from it, too!

It doesn't prevent you from dying of old age, but it stops you from accruing the penalties of ageing. (bonuses still accrue)

So I could look and feel like a spry 24 year old well into my 90's....

All the more believable that I would find something to mate with before I die...
