Hi,
I'm trying to find a PbP game for either Pathfinder or some of the Gamemastery modules. Everytime I see a thread looking to recruit players for such a game, its already filled :-(
So I figured I'd be proactive in case anyone was thinking about running a new campaign....
Some information about myself:
- I'm 27, and I've been playing DnD since I was ~8 (D&D, AD&D, 2nd Ed, 3.0/3.5)
- I've never played a PbP game before, but I've been following some here on Paizo, and I think I have a handle on it.
- I should be able to post on a daily basis. However due to my work schedule and having a baby at home, my posting time would routinely be between 7pm and midnight Pacific time. I might be able to get some time in to post while at work, but I wouldn't count on it.
- I've read, or at least skimmed, the Pathfinder Player's Guide, D0, D1 & W1. And I'm subscribed to both.
However, I don't believe I'd have any problem seperating character knowledge and player knowledge. I've done this in the past for other Dungeon adventures or classic AD&D modules (Slavers, ToEE, etc) which I have re-played throughout various editions.
- I'd most likely play some sort of warrior (since Valeros looks so damm cool) but I'm open to playing whatever a party needs.
- Given a choice, I wouldn't mind an "open" game with many sourcebooks (WotC or other publishers) available. But I also am not adverse to a strict "SRD-only" game. Either one can be fun, and has advantages/disadvantages.
- If a prospective DM wanted to use the new pre-gen iconic characters, that would be fine with me as well. (But my first choice would be Valeros, as you might have guessed from my avatar, lol)

Bro, every time a game is announced here, it's a veritable feeding frenzy to get in...it's just a right place right time kinda deal...
The way I got in a game, I read through a few and went to the commentaries of one(s) I liked and said, "this game rocks; I wish I was playing,...." so I got in on a replacement list; if a dm is running 5,6, or even 8 people inevitably someone will have to back out due to some bullcrap. So it's a good bet that if a game is running real nice and smooth, everybody would rather replace the guy who has to back out than start over from scratch.

Well, I have been debating this for a bit, and I may as well . . .
I will be DMing a 5 person run through D0&D1&W1 ---
there will be some inherent liberties taken here and there with the story, npc's, creatures . . .more to keep players on their toes than anything else.
There will be a few homebrew rules, but these are more along the lines of some bonuses added to make each character more flavorful. I will post these later (if I do indeed plan on using them at all) and they are not important.
Character Creation:
1st level --
28 pt. buy (check DMG or InvisibleCastle.com)
11 base classes allowed
Feats, spells, and prestige classes allowed from Complete Adventurer, Arcane, Divine, and Warrior (I am currently seperated from my copy of Divine and Warrior so players using these may at times have to remind me what X is)
Core races only.
Bonus feat at first level - Meaning humans get 2 bonus feats. These feats will be from a list that I will put up sometime tomorrow.
I think that covers it.
Talion -- I put this here for your benefit, I will consider you in, unless you tell me otherwise

I would like to join in this, if I may?
However I would prefer that you take those liberties with the Pathfinder plot. I enjoy surprises.
My preference is for spellcasters so I'll wait and see what everyone else wants to be before choosing.
I have similar experience of DnD to Talion and live in the UK. However I am a house husband so I generally keep an eye on the messageboards several times a day.
Cheers

Bump
Well, this thread already worked well once, and got me into a new GameMastery D0+D1 game... so I figured I'd resurrect it and see if I could get into a Pathfinder game as well ;-)
I know of at least one other potential player here on the boards, Eldritch Mister Shiny, who posted a similiar plea for a PbP game here.
So if any prospective DMs want to start a new RotRL pbp game, you've got two players at least. Of course, I don't think you'd have any problems filling a game, but it can't hurt to ask/beg/plead, right? ;-)

You can make that 2 other players! My gaming history is similar Talion09's. I could probably check the boards and post daily (at the very least 4-5 times a week, though in all liklyhood I might end up posting multiple times a day).
I have played in PbP games before, although not on these boards. I'd be open to playing any character type to help round out the party.

... All right. If no one volunteers to run Pathfinder by... 2000 GMT + 3 on Friday, then I'll run.

I'm running one, but I'm full (EIGHT players - sheesh, what it is to be popular). I would strongly recommend someone else doing one (or maybe more than one) since there seems to be a big appetite. I have had a number of queries from people wanting in - which I sternly rebuffed, maintaining my integrity. I'll post up their names once I have been through the thread where I kicked things off.
EDIT: the players on my waiting list are Keno, Dreamweaver and Kahoolin.

You know what? Eff it. I'll run one.
Chimp, Talion, if you're still interested, you're in. Fate, ask those three if they want to jump on mine. After that, I'll run a total party of six.
Now, remember, I've never ran a PbP, and occassionally ran modules with my friends. In my opinion, I think my DM skills are lacking, but I'll give my best. Practice makes perfect, after all, and the environment I'm in, I don't have many opportunities to run (or play, for that matter).

Well, there are all of us from Erin's Glen that are probably looking for a game; i have tried two pbp games and both ended after only a short time of play...my life is a frenzy of crazy atm, but I guess I should run a game in the next couple months, sigh just wanted to play for a change, already run 3 games in RL.
so on that note; I am willing to play any character; any outlook; any race; fill any nitch; have dice will post :)

Sect, good on you! With my modicum of experience, I offer you a few guides:-
1. You need motivated players. But most of all, you have to stay motivated as a DM. The PbP's I've played in have died because the DM didn't really have the time or the motivation to do it. So be sure you can hang in there, because this will probably take years to run through.
2. Keep the pace going. Give people time to post. But not too much time - maybe a day. Don't be afraid to NPC a character if their player is away. This is especially the case in combat - a round can take a day or more, so you don't need to add to that. If possible, players should inform you in advance if they think they will be away, otherwise you should get an idea from the player's style after a while as to what is appropriate. And if a player doesn't show up much, find out why. Is it work pressure or funny hours? Or maybe time difference if they are overseas? Or are they not really that interested? The group may take time to settle down in a definitive form, so you may lose (and gain) people.
3. Invest time in describing things. You are all they have - plus their imaginations. In this format, you are much more of an author than on a table-top game. When it comes down to tactical situations (i.e. combat) this is especially important as the players will be making decisions based upon what you tell them - they have no other cues, like a battlemat. In those situations, it pays to be as precise as possible (I'm now using coordinates to determine position, which seems to be working quite well).
On the plus side, it has several advantages. The biggest is time - you can think things through and come up with a good solution to an expected problem or player action. It is also a good medium for role-playing, especially if (like me) you feel an idiot action out a part in front of other people. And the relative slowness can be great for building suspense. In my Eberron PbP, the tension built for days over what was, in game terms, a couple of minutes as they geared up to storm the enemy redoubt. It was genuinely gripping stuff.
Anyway - best of luck.

Okay, here it is:
Keno, you're confirmed as a player.
Chimp, Talion, Dreamweaver, Kahoolin, and Valegrim, if you want in, tell me within the next two days. At 2000 GMT+3 on Thursday, if I don't hear back from you, your spots are going to be offered to whoever's next in line. I'll start a thread in the Discussion for the game, and post it here.

well, i would love to play, but need to know what you expect; like how often you expect posts; how many days of the week or one a day or stuff like that; am willing to play anything, but dont know anything about gamemastery or pathfinder yet; so i dont know anything about any special classes or races that might be tied to those two scenarios; is this core book stuff or what? good game or nuetrals ok; evil guys?

I have the discussion up. But, you can download the Player's Guide from the website for free, if you are able. I'll supply you as much info as you need. Once a day when we get started should be fine, though if circumstances prevent you from playing, it'll be nice to know.
And, please, good or neutral aligned, unless you have a good and/or interesting reason to be evil without disrupting gameplay.
And SRD (core books) works fine.

ACtually, it looks like Dreamweaver has a spot open in their homebrew game... check that out. Link

I'm looking for a rise of the runelords game that is friendly with first time PBP gamers. I've played all sorts of games. I have run some but not enough to feel comfortable running games. But to the point, I would like to join a game either in progress or as I would prefer start with a new game. I will play what the GM need with in reason. I would like to play pathfinder because it looks like the best incarnation of the game I've ever seen. So I figure it might make the gaming experience that much more fun.
