False Arenamaster |
The crowd is shuffling in, searching for seats in the Arena. Anticipation runs through them as they draw closer to fight-time for tonight is an epic battle between the forces of good and evil. The jugglers and swordswallowers are all finishing their crowd pleasing antics and the Tumbling Tumaris finish their act with one final flourish. The Arenamaster stands and with a magically amplified voice he says,Ladies and Gentlemen, Noble and peasant, we have for you tonight a battle like none before! A battle between 2 teams, one Good! And one Evil! They shall battle to the death for your amusement! And we offer a twist, a secret one to see which Team is truly supreme!
But enough talk, on with the BATTLE!!!!
We will be using the same Arena Map as last time with Team Evil starting in the red starting area and Team Good starting in the blue starting area. Remember the arena doors close at the end of round 2 and anyone caught behind the doors may be considered out of the battle.
I would like everyone to post with starting positions, the standard action used to prepare, and their PCs initiative. After everyone posts we will begin the first round.
Good luck to all and have fun....
Logan Gibbs |
Logan stands next to the central door to the arena. He takes a deep breath to steady his nerves. He shakes the bolt case at his hip a bit to make sure it is fastened securely, then takes out a small vial.
"Relax. It is only your life on the line." Logan mutters to himself.
Logan breaks the seal on the open end, and gulps down the contents.
Setup Standard Action: Drink Potion of Cat's Grace, bringing my effective Dex to 20. (Modified scores in []) Duration: 3 minutes, or 30 rounds.
Starting Initiative Roll [increased Dex included]
Heinrich the Bold |
Heinrich stands next to Logan, awaiting with anxiety for the doors to open. He listens to the crowd and closes his eyes, becoming focused.
He takes a swig from the small bottle that was attached to his belt, grimacing as it goes down.
"I'm as ready as I'll ever be."
I won't be able to post again until tonight at approx. 8PM Eastern, I'll be on the road all day, then I will have no trouble posting regularly.
EDIT: Forgot to put my starting square: B9
Vanin Ironheart |
Vanin Ironheart starts at C 13. He uses his standard action to cast Bull's Strength on himself from a scroll.
Vanin stamps his feet and fingers his chain in anticipation of the upcoming skirmish, his heart emboldened by the chanting of the bloodthirsty crowd. "May Kord see us through to victory this day. Spare nothing my compatriots; these villains deserve nothing but the full extent of our wrath!"
Nilgaar |
"About time! I hope them do-gooders enjoyed a nice comfy night of rest since it'll be the last they enjoy in this world."
::Spoken to the spiked chain wrapped around his cloth-bound left forearm and trailing down to ground, "Drink deeply today, my trusty friend."::
Nilgar starts at Y-4.
Initiative: 1d20=7+6=13
Rurin Songsmith |
Mevers, Fatespinner and Mothman have yet to post initiative, starting location and prep-time standard action.
I can't access Invisible Castle from work, but if you want to roll Init for me...
Rurin pops the top of a potion and chugs it down before the doors swing open, smiling cheerfully and preparing for the showdown.
Garash Gnarlwood |
“C’mon Bitey, time to kill fings,” says Garash. “Youse guys ready?”
He pulls out a scroll, tracing it’s contents with a finger, mouthing the words silently to himself as he goes.
Init: 1d20+2 = 5
Starting position: Z6
Bitey’s starting position: Z7
Berekiah |
False Arenamaster |
Readying myself for the coming battle in Y8, I quaff my potion of Mage Armor (AC now 19), and nock an arrow to my bow.
You have to start behind the doors. I assume that Z8 is acceptable, if not, pick a different square.
Rurin's initiative roll- 1d20+1=6
Fake Healer |
BTW guys, I am leaving on Tuesday (the 7th, probably today) on a mini-vaca for an overnight at the shore. I will be unable to post from about 1pm on the 7th until around 8-9pm on the 8th. Any questions can either hold til I return or Vissigoth can attempt to help smooth things out, if he wouldn't mind. :)

Logan Gibbs |
Logan pushes the distraction that is the roar of the crowd away, and steps down the wide shallow steps to the arena floor. He takes a couple of steps, then kneels beside the low wall.
Logan glances over the opposition, trying to size them up, while he opens the other vial he had. After he empties the contents into his mouth, he drops the empty vial unceremoniously.
Logan prepares to face the foul creatures that are his enemies.
Standard action: Drink the potion of Shield of Faith +3 [adjusting my AC] Duration: 6 minutes, or 60 rounds.
Logan has cover, which adjusts his AC and reflex save.
All adjustments should be in my profile shortly after I post this.
In case you want a new initiative roll for next round: Round 2 Initiative

In case anyone is interested, I made a few adjustments to the arena "program" I used for the other game.
As before, I'll update in the mornings and at night.
I'm not sure what Sparticus' avatar is, so I left him blank. I'll upload it when I see it.
Some of the new features:
Hope this helps!

Thanks Todd, that's very cool.
Thanks! I'm interested in hearing other enhancements that can be added. I'd like to have the images move to the place, but that's a bit off.
Just a heads up. Seems like Firefox doesn't like the borders, but everything else works in FF2 and IE7 (use other browsers at your own risk, but I'd think that it could go back to IE6 or IE5).
Fake Healer |
Nice map! Thanks! I printed the blank one, covered it with the clear plastic sticky bookcover sheets and I use dry erase markers on it to show peoples postitions so I have an on-hand reference for myself, but that is way cooler.
Technology is pretty cool when used right.

Heinrich is up.
False Arenamaster |
Taking cover behind the low wall, Heinrich draws out his long ranseur and a small vial of oil, which he slathers over the tip of the weapon. It shimmers softly in response.
He smiles at Logan and Rurin. "I have a good feeling about this."
** spoiler omitted **
Sorry, screwed up. You weren't next Vanin was next, then Nilgaar, THEN Heinrich.
Sorry for the mixup.FH
tdewitt274 |
Mine was off too, but it's fixed now.
Vissigoth, thanks and no prob. I'll see if I can come up with something for your character template, eventually. I'm sure there's a way, just haven't thought about it yet.
Fake, that's a pretty good idea. Eventually, I'd like to use it for a Silent Death PbP. But that's quite a bit off...
Nilgaar |
"Let's see how that uppity priest blathers with a crossbow bolt in him," Nilgaar mutters as he takes a couple steps into the arena and drops onto his stomach, takes aim at Vanin with his crossbow and fires.
"Dammit! Missed!"
While prone Nilgaar has +4 to his AC against ranged attacks. Nilgaar is now in square X-5.
Heinrich the Bold |
Heinrich takes cover behind the low wall next to Logan, and grabs a second bottle from his belt, this one containing a viscous oil which he slathers all over the point of his Ranseur, which then begins to shimmer slightly.
Upon hearing Vanin's call, he smiles at Logan and Rurin,
"Somehow, I think this will turn out alright."
Nilgaar |
"Jathali, it's the nerves, brother! Just settle yourself. Evil will prevail today cuz Good is dumb!"
Nilgaar grins his toothy smile at the do-gooders starting to emerge from the other side of the arena as he prepares to make his next move.
This round is moving pretty quick. Hope it keeps up!
"Oh, and nice shot, Jathali. Next time try for someone inside of the arena, though.

Okay, before I act, does this count as round ONE or round TWO? If the doors aren't going to close and DQ me at the end of this round, I'm going to spend some more time back here on my way out. If they ARE going to close this round, then I need to make my exit now, which alters my strategy significantly. All of this is moot, however, if I can take cover in square C9. I realize that that square CONTAINS the sandbag wall, but is there enough room there that I can occupy the space and still benefit from cover?

Fakey said that the doors would close after two rounds. Since we're on the first round, you should have time do whatever it is you're going to do assuming you enter the arena on your next turn.
Remember the arena doors close at the end of round 2 and anyone caught behind the doors may be considered out of the battle.
FH, just trying to help and keep things moving.
Rurin Songsmith |
Okay, assuming that Steve's assessment is correct, I shall act to further the game.
5-foot-step to B7 behind the wall, grabbing my potion of barkskin +2 and chugging it down.
Garash Gnarlwood |
“Awright, lets git goin Bitey. Argh, dese guys can’t hit nuttin. Oh, har, har, har, dey hit dat guy up in da stands, dats funny!”
Garash casts another spell on himself from a scroll, then moves out the doors to space Y6. Bitey moves with him, ending up in space X6.
Logan Gibbs |
Logan takes a deep breath while he loads his crossbow. He raises it to his shoulder, and takes aim at the horse under Spartacus...
A hit!!! Shallow but sure.
Standard Action, fire at the horse (damn fat fingers killed the note I was adding to the roll) 16+9=25 for the attack roll, 4 points of damage.
Note: Nearly every square inside the arena walls are in the first range increment for a heavy crossbow
Disenchanter |
Not quite Vissigoth.
The lance does triple damage on a charge, with a x3 crit multiplier.
If you crit on the charge you would do a total of x5.
Why do you think I assessed Spartacus as the most dangerous? ;-)
