Tornado damage and casualty reports near my home town.You doing alright?
Sorry to take so long in replying. I just now saw your post. But yes, I'm fine. It bypassed my city in favor of two smaller towns, one of which was hit three years and two days before by a similarly powerful tornado. The damage this time was much, much worse. My ex's uncle, his daughter, her inlaws, and his inlaws all live really close to each other and all four of their homes were stripped down to the concrete slabs they were built on. Another of her cousins lost everything, including their physical therapy business.
But that's a tough little town. Despite the horrific event, they've worked hard, come together like you wouldn't believe, kept their faith, and even laughed about it. Her aunt was laughing and saying she didn't have to clean the attic this summer now.
I was flippin' about through youtube, lookin' at shiznit, and saw this. "I've heard about that forever, I should listen to it." I do; it's pretty awesome if you like psychedelic arty hippie chick music (which, of course, I do--two random examples: title track; and Moons and Cattails) read some articles on her online and discovered that of all years to finally listen to her album, this year, 2014, was the one where she finally, after 44 years made a second album.
Kinda weird, I thought.

Glad youre ok Dungeonmaster. Sorry about the others caught in the path. Ive got some friends that lived in Brookline MO where there have been 12 or so tornadoes in the last 8 yrs. They finally moved after this last blast. They only had roof damage, but that got them out of the dangerzone.

I got a guy that is WAY into new music. Hes got buddies in California and Belgium that listen to a LOT of 'underground' stuff. Between him and Mothman on this forum (out of Australia?), I heard all the stuff that was poised to break big. Some of it I like and post on here, some I let go. St Vincent and Animal Collective I am 'supposed' to like, but I cant get into those bands. Goldfrapp was another, but it was that video that Doodlebug posted that actually broke me into them.
PS: Where is Mothman, Ive private messaged him a couple times...sadface
Pointfest happened in STL this last weekend. Id already seen Airborne Toxic Event, Blue October, Neon Trees, and Queens of the Stone Age before. Went because pit tix were 38bucks (and QOTSA!!!)
I liked everything I heard (except Chelsea Wolfe and Head and the Heart...not my cuppa). Most surprising band was Band of Skulls. Id seen some youtube clips of lyric videos just to get a feel and loved those, but was not sure it could happen live. I was wrong! That band is amazing! Bought their cd and a cool shirt from the merch booth.
Coolest moment at the smaller stages was Blue October. Justin was on a tear that day, cussed like a sailor and has grown a serious Amish beard since last I saw them. The crowd was under severe sun-baked crazy and was actually moshing during Bleed Out, GIANT circle pit during this quiet touching song. We 'sacrificed' a hundred or so crowd surfers to the front during their 45 minute set. Lots more surfers than Id seen in a while.
Arythma and The Orwells were FUN local bands that tore it up to get the mood started. It was a HOT day. Morning Parade was a fun pop band that accidentally called Band of Skulls, Band of Horses. heh.
Neon Trees ushered us to the 'big' stage. Tyler has come out since I saw him last and it works, though the little teenybopper girls still squealed like they were going to take him home like last time they came through. Cool! someone uploaded the Pixies cover. Thanks IxQuit on youtube. Im over in front of the bass player. I like these guys.
AFI was next. Davey's mic flew off its cord during his first big twirl so he was pissed for about 4 songs. They did a few older ones that I liked. Wish they woulda done totalimmortal or highschool football hero. Id give em the horns for that.
Queens of the Stone Age was next. I cant say enough good stuff about these guys. LOVE EM! This is going to be a band like Iron Maiden for me. I will try to see them every time they come close to here.
Offspring started with Bad Habit and did not let up for 6-7 songs. They had a purpose, they thought there was a storm heading through the area. I quit listening to them around 'get a job' 'fly for white guy' era. shrug. So there were a couple song I didnt know, but Dexter, Noodles, Greg and the 'new guys' (heh) kicked so much ass!

"Turn down for what" has become a common saying among the punks in the local music scene. I'm not sure if they know that it comes from that song.

More importantly...I believe Mothman is The 8th Dwarf's Dungeon Master and was taken out of Paizonian circulation by: a) a new job; b) a Mothbaby.

...lots of cool stuff...I saw QOTSA about twelve years ago and it was hugely disappointing: they doubled the length of every song with noodley soloing which left me cold.
Mars Volta did something similar.
I can see that noodling in some of the youtube clips. I only had 'Welcome to Sky Valley' from Kyuss. Mostly for Demon Cleaner and then I lost track of Homme until Feel Good Hit of the Summer. I didn't see em live until 2011, then not again until last year. But they've tightened up and go with the flow.

I don't know why, I still like the solo stuff, especially the darkness of Born Like This.
