When Pathfinder Eando Kline, traveling scholar and adventurer extraordinaire, comes across a strange and magical ioun stone, the discovery starts him on a quest unlike any he's undertaken before. In following the stone's mysterious directions, he'll be forced to cross the dangerous frontier region of Varisia, the orc-held territories of Belkzen, and the deadly and monster-infested tunnels of the Darklands. Along the way, friends will be made—and friends will be lost. Yet when he finally reaches his journey's end, he may find himself losing the one thing that matters most to him.

Originally published over the course of three Pathfinder Adventure Paths (Rise of the Runelords, Curse of the Crimson Throne, and Second Darkness), this collaborative novel contains the collected journals of Eando Kline, telling his story in his own words. Curating his immortal prose are authors Jason Bulmahn, James Jacobs, Michael Kortes, Mike McArtor, Erik Mona, Richard Pett, Amber Scott, James L. Sutter, Jay Thompson, Greg A. Vaughan, all edited by James L. Sutter. Also includes tons of informational sidebars on the Pathfinder campaign setting, plus game statistics for Eando himself, and more!

Where Pathfinder was born

5/5

I remember reading the start of these stories back when Rise of The Runelords first came out, and was pleased to see the whole collection available in one place.

In a lot of ways, Eando's story lays the groundwork for Golarion and the Pathfinder Society. Not to mention that much of the ground Eando covered in the Hold of Belkzen gets revisited in Lord of Runes.

In short, if you like Pathfinder, you are going to like the Compass Stone. It is the seed from which Golarion grew.

Essential Background

5/5

This is great background reading for the Pathfinder scenarios Fortress of the Nail, Veteran's Vault, Port Godless, and the Glories of the Past trilogy. It also gives great background for the Pathfinder Tales novel Lord of Runes.

If you are a fan of Pathfinder Society I highly recommend reading this.

Pathfinder Society essential

5/5

This is a great e-book!!! If you're a Pathfinder Society player or admirer you need to read this book. I'm was not a fan of reading books on my phone, but this story and others have made be a level 3 phone reader.

A good read

4/5

I enjoyed this book. I haven't subscribed to the AP line since the end of the Rise of the Runelords, so was happy to get the rest of Eando's story. I felt the authors/editors did a really good job of keeping the tone of the chapters close, so that it really did feel like the journal of a single person. Overall, it was a fun read.

I liked the content of the various chapter appendices, however, as I was just sitting down and reading this as a novel, their inclusion at the end of each chapter felt a bit jarring to me. I also really like the inclusions of the line drawings.

Any chance that this will ever be put into novel form, maybe along with his continued journeys?

Good! I was hoping that we'd see this be collected.

Figured if this gets responses, it might be a good thing to link here, and might get more exposure with the linking
