Hey guys, thanks for participating. I'll put up the Gameplay thread shortly, but first please review the updated house rules in the CAMPAIGN INFO section. If you have any questions or concerns, please post them here so we can settle it before we start. Also, please note my comments on the spoiler below and make any necessary adjustments. Otherwise, just post that you're ready.

The most important part is the TRACKING SHEET (a link to it is on the top of this page). I've already created a tab for each of you to fill up. I need it for faster tracking of character wealth long term, so please fill it in. There are formulas already included. You may look to the EXAMPLE tab as reference.

Again, you still have 24hrs to finalize your character profiles, after which I will put up the Gameplay thread. I also expect to see the quick info bar beneath your name fitted with frequently used stats by then.

Minimum Quickbar Contents:
Class & Level | HP | Other stats for monitoring (e.g. Spell, channel, rage, arrow counters) | AC normal, t, ff | CMD | Saves | Initiative | Perception

Character Audit (Concepts & Others) - Order:

General Reminder - 3 traits & 1 drawback is mandatory. Please update your characters accordingly.

@Book Wyrm: Wow, your PC is very well developed. I just don't see the part why & where you were 'taken' by Irori and convinced/forced you to participate for him. Just add that and we're good.
@Issac: Very well written. It looks like you PC did not need any convincing given that he's practically a lost lamb. I just need to clarify your extra skill rank came from though... is it the favored class bonus?
@Fariza - Nice. Let's just hope that those children 'destined for greatness' was not Raffe's sister. I look forward to seeing your completed character profile .
@Haikyu - *shivers* hopefully not from the AC. Very comprehensive profile to boot. Did you format this manually?
@Raffe - Another rune lord in the making? Survive and find out. No need to monitor experience, I'll just level you all at my pace. I don't see your inventory yet though. Looking forward to your completion.

Male Human (Chelaxian) Sorcerer 1, HP: 5/8, Spells/Day: 4, AC/Touch/FF: 12/12/10, CMD: 13, Fort/Ref/Will: 2/2/2, Initiative +2, Perception: 0

Hey guys. Looking forward to "laying down the law" with you guys.

Eh? Eh? No. Oh, ok.

Off to fix the damage done by my poor reading comprehension.

I lifted the base formatting from someone else, but otherwise - yeah, I've gotten into using this for all my characters. It's super legible, which I like. And I always build my characters by hand, so it's not really a pain to slot everything in as I go.

Will add my QuickInfo bar later on today. I still need to do random gubbins purchasing, too, so I'll update the Loot sheet when I do that.

I'm slightly concerned about being the only even relatively front-line fighter, so I may tweak some things with my build over the next few hours. Then again, since we have two wizards, a sorcerer, and an oracle, I shouldn't be wanting for buffs. ;)

As an aside, I think Haikyu and Book Wyrm will get along marvelously.

Grand Lodge

@Haikyu: would you mind sending me a copy of that template? I'm curious to test how user friendly it is. If it can't be done directly here in the forums or thru PM, my email is dragonfang.em@gmail.com.

Male Human (Chelaxian) Sorcerer 1, HP: 5/8, Spells/Day: 4, AC/Touch/FF: 12/12/10, CMD: 13, Fort/Ref/Will: 2/2/2, Initiative +2, Perception: 0

Ok, Isaac should be finished. The skill points as I count are 2+3 Intelligence, +1 Human (skilled) +1 favored class = 7.

Sure thing! Sent it over.

I apologize for posting twice in a row. I hate doing it.

How do I effect my quickbar?

Is my Alias good now?

Are we rolling for starting gold? If so, here is mine.
Starting Gold: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 4) = 8 X 10 = 80gp.

Also, I really like this campaign already.

@GM Fang: Good catch, though I had uploaded it. Will get it uploaded today!

Book Wyrm and I got our Loot Sheets done up - he added Weight to both our pages as well, since it makes sense to track everything together. I'm thinking I've got everything pretty much ready to go! Excited to get started. :)

Male Human (Chelaxian) Sorcerer 1, HP: 5/8, Spells/Day: 4, AC/Touch/FF: 12/12/10, CMD: 13, Fort/Ref/Will: 2/2/2, Initiative +2, Perception: 0

Um, question: you said average starting gold but for gear only. Does that mean that aside from the gear we "buy" we get nothing? Because I had planned on Isaac just sort of being dumped with nothing but the clothes on his back, the instructions, and the orb.

Grand Lodge

@Book Wyrm: Average gold. Double posting is fine as long as it's reasonable.

@Issac: yeah that was my initial plan, but I figured that starting gold is so low compared to our pace that I'd just let it be as it is. It'd make sense for you to have pocket money when taken anyway.

Well, if we are ascending, I suppose no need for gold. I would think my gold would be stored somewhere. Which isn't very important to this campeign, I'd think.

Grand Lodge

You'd still need it. There will be some merchants, one way or another.

Equipment is up, as is leftover gold... really didn't spend that much. One thing I have never been good at is familiars/mounts/animal companions. I am taking a raven, but beyond it giving me a bonus on my appraise checks and it being able to speak a language I really don't know how to lay it out (can't even find its base creature stats to pull up) so... any help would be apreciated on it.

RAVENS FOR EVERYONE.

So, according to the book and SRD and stuff:

Quote:
A familiar is an animal chosen by a spellcaster to aid him in his study of magic. It retains the appearance, Hit Dice, base attack bonus, base save bonuses, skills, and feats of the normal animal it once was, but is now a magical beast for the purpose of effects that depend on its type. Only a normal, unmodified animal may become a familiar. An animal companion cannot also function as a familiar.

Which means you're looking for This.

Grand Lodge

Alright. Gameplay section will be up in a few minutes. Please post there once you're ready.

Also, please double check the tracking sheet contents. I can't see your modifications yet.

Grand Lodge

@Raffe: Haikyu's right or you can use this PRD page as well on Familars. Just modify their stats according to the ability description under Wizard.

When I open the tracking sheet, Issac's, Fariza's, and Raffe's tabs are still empty.

Male Human Wizard / 2 | AC 11 T 11 F 10 | HP 18/18 | F +2 R +1 W +5/+3 | Init +1 | Perc +2

OK, think I updated the tracker correctly... Will update my profile for a familiar in the morning, I appreciate the help with it! Will post in the gameplay thread and head to bed.

Is my familiar with me? How did he get there?

I was going to prepare spells, but that might mess up your timeline. Can I still do that, or would you prefer me to hearken unto the voice?

Do I have my backpack, and all my belongings?

Edit: I am very anxious to post, I just don't want to step on any toes.

Male Human Wizard / 2 | AC 11 T 11 F 10 | HP 18/18 | F +2 R +1 W +5/+3 | Init +1 | Perc +2

Well, I have been using my familiar and no one has objected yet... so I would say that you should have it. Also acting as if I had whatever spells I had prepared prior to being taken up. DFang will correct me if I am wrong, but I would think you would have them too (unless you are playing this as you just left a battle and had expended slots in it).

Important!
I will be using the rhetoric punctuation of "[]"
Example: Nice hat[.] Means, it's a silly hat. Why are we here[?] Means, I don't want an answer. All this time to play a MUD[.] Means, I am joking. It's just a jab at "choose a direction."
Important!

Well, I think I got plenty of rest. Being in the situation I am in, I would most likely want different spells then just some average day of magic. I wouldn't want to keep my normal day of study for comprehend language and Identify. I would recognize my new environment and want to prepare for it with something like mage armor and sleep, or expeditious retreat. But preparing takes an hour. You guys will be dead by then[.]

Male

Duly noted. :)
Consider you familiar somehow buried either in your backpack or inside your clothing. I'll leave that for you guys to roleplay out.

If a druid can communicate with animals they turn into, does that mean that animals can just speak to each other; like in Disney movies?

Pretty sure that familiars can only communicate with animals of their own kind once their master reaches a certain level...

Checks PRD...Ah yes, here it is: PRD

Good call, that's what it was. I knew there was something.

Grand Lodge

Hmmm... it seems rather counter-intuitive though, since animals of the exact same type would have a default method of communication, especially since the creatures currently in question have higher INT scores than other typical animals. I would understand if it was towards another sub-species, like cat & tiger.

I'm gonna call it that way. Your ravens can talk to each other in their own way (*squawk* languange?) but it's not very efficient so it takes 3 times as long to communicate an idea.

hm... ok... I always looked at it as since they become magic animals they kinda lose that element of commonality with their original subset... but then again, both are magic animals of the same type, even if they don't speak the same human language. Squawk language away, Wyrm, lol.

Grand Lodge

1 person marked this as a favorite.

@Book:
Unfortunately yes, this map was taken from google. There are some 3rd party software (online & offline) that can assist you when making your own map. Personally I use Roll20. My forest map looked so bad I was ashamed to even show it, so I turned to google in the meantime.

I uploaded the map image to Roll20 for the grid overlay and printscreen the whole thing before saving it in Google Draw.

For the tokens, I use a neat little program called the Token Tool (go to RPTools.net). You can drag&drop and even printscreen the base images, and once you've aligned the image to the token borders, the program automatically crops everything for you when you save it (as PNG to maintain the transparent background).

@Group:
With that though, I usually use Google draw since it's a more common place for most people. But I can use Roll20 for the map if everyone agrees, I'll even throw in some background music (setting up fog of war there would be so much easier and fool proof too).

Male Human Wizard / 2 | AC 11 T 11 F 10 | HP 18/18 | F +2 R +1 W +5/+3 | Init +1 | Perc +2

Never used it myself, and occasionally I go to sea for my job for weeks/months at a time... and while I can get to Paizo (so I can still post) I can't get to a lot of "gaming" sites... heck, even google docs doesn't work right when it comes to maps (I typically get the top corners of it and that is it... and can't edit it.) I'll PM your before I am at sea, but would prefer simple maps... makes it easier for others to explain where I am in relation to what in my experience.

Grand Lodge

OK then. It's no problem. Google Draw it is! :)

Sweet! Thanks!

Grand Lodge

Hmmm... This seems to be the most common form of low-level mistake from spellcasters:

Mage Armor provides armor bonus and does not stack with the armor of the character. Instead, the highest bonus is taken, and since Haikyu already has a +5 armor bonus from his Kikko Armor, Mage Armor will have no effect. Generally speaking, only dodge bonuses stack so total defense does its work.

I had a summoner PC with an armored eidolon once, and used Mage Armor on him before learning this. Let's just say that my summoner survived only because the paladin in the party managed to get a critical smite hit immediately after the demon plowed through the eidolon.
