Ah drats - I thought it was an untyped bonus or at least a Shield bonus - though I see now that that's actually the Shield spell, which can't be cast on someone else.

*Haikyu prepares to be cut down by Orcs*

Where does it say that about the mage armor?

A shield's armor bonus stacks with armor's armor bonus. Wait... I think I understand. But, where does it say that?

It says it is a +4 armor bonus to AC. Dodge, Natural, and Untyped armour bonuses stack. With Deflection, Shield, and Armour, only the highest is used. Likewise, two "Sacred" bonuses wouldn't stack, two "Enhancement" bonuses wouldn't stack, but one of each would.

Right, I get the stacking. I didn't think about how the shield is a deflections bonus. I thought because it is armor of force, it would cover the parts that the armor being warn wouldn't. Giving more coverage. In my imagination it makes total sense. But, that's not the nature of the spell. Well, at least I am role playing well. I don't know nothin' 'bout fights, just books.

Grand Lodge

From my logic, you envelope your character with a force of armor with the same characteristics of an armor with +4 bonus, gaps and all but without the weight and spell casting penalties. This is also the same reason why STR provides an attack bonus because it helps overcome armor 'hardness'. Thus, if the attack was strong enough to break through an armor with +5 bonus, it easily goes through the +4 overlap. The only bonus is that Mage Armor works versus ghosts and such.

Grand Lodge

~4hrs before I bot for Fariza.

Male Human Wizard / 2 | AC 11 T 11 F 10 | HP 18/18 | F +2 R +1 W +5/+3 | Init +1 | Perc +2

Been reading the combat. Sorry about forgetting the CC penalty.

Grand Lodge

It's OK, I got used to checking all the penalties for all ranged attacks anyway. I'll look out for the time you pickup any feats to cancel that out though.

Male Human Wizard / 2 | AC 11 T 11 F 10 | HP 18/18 | F +2 R +1 W +5/+3 | Init +1 | Perc +2

Anyone else going to follow me down the path? Book? Haikyu?

So, at the risk of metagaming a bit, we have a second vial of CLW, and I still have one cast of CLW left. But I'm not sure who is in most need of the heals.

Isaac is at precisely 0 HPs so he's probably up there.

Male Human Wizard / 2 | AC 11 T 11 F 10 | HP 18/18 | F +2 R +1 W +5/+3 | Init +1 | Perc +2

Raffe is at one, but assuming we can rest along the way it probably won't be an issue.

Any word on book or fariza? they haven't posted in a bit...

Grand Lodge

None yet. I've sent them a PM earlier today to check, both their account's aren't active since then too though.

Grand Lodge

Fariza replied saying that she has decided to drop off permanently. She had some intensive work to resolve during the first two weeks of her hiatus and now she's off on a trip.

In her words "I think I missed to much to continue."

If you guys are up to continue the adventure, I will open up the recruitment thread. I'll give a day more for Book, if he's not back then his slot will open up for replacement too.

I'm still gonna be around.

Male Human Wizard / 2 | AC 11 T 11 F 10 | HP 18/18 | F +2 R +1 W +5/+3 | Init +1 | Perc +2

Works for me... know we want good player verses slot players, but if we could maybe get a tank... or a cleric... that would probably make us a bit less "Fall down cliff, die of exposure-y".

Inactive

That's a shame. :(

But otherwise I agree. If we're going to take someone on, we definitely would do well with a Cleric or tanky character.

Sorry everyone. I got a new job as a school bus driver and I have been studying for my commercial drivers license. Also, to be honest, my wife and I have been going through some troubled waters. I am still in the game. I will post soon.

Male

Hey! Glad to have you back! gotta let the recruits know that there's only one vacant slot now

family comes first man... but if you are still able to play we are glad to still have you. :)

Grand Lodge

Hey guys, I have my masters thesis proposal defense in a week so my post rate may decline until the evening of 24th.

I'll keep you guys moving as much as I can when I visit the page though so try to at least post with PC actions that moves the story forward or might trigger/find something as well.

Don't worry too much man... knock'em dead on your defense!

Grand Lodge

2 people marked this as a favorite.

I only gain +4AC with total defense since I don't do Acrobatics, but I suppose my Knowledge (Engineering) rolls will have to suffice when the day comes LOL

Firing up Crucible

Grand Lodge

@Crucible: Summary of events:
1. The party wakes up in different areas of the forest and eventually find others using smooth white orbs whose light always points towards the middle position between all those who bear the same orb, or some other means.
2. When they assembled together, they were ambushed by a band of patrolling orcs. They managed to kill off all but one orc who were patrolling the area. This one called for more of the tribe who chased them down to the cliffside.
3. The party finds cave at the end of a cliffside trail after they've been battered by a rock-slide.

Now, here's my thoughts on how you came about:

Spoiler:

1. Woke up in the forest as well but without the white orb to guide you. That's given to the god's chosen, but Asmodeus thinks you don't need such trinkets.
2. You were a immediately discovered by the orcs who tied you up but most left you in their camp after the first horn blowed, calling for all of their tribe to give chase.
3. You managed to break your clumsy bonds and killed the only orc left to guard you.
4. The orcs saw you as you ran away and a few broke off from the chase to corner you on another end of the cliff. You battled them and accidentally started the rock-slide when your warhammer hit a large boulder at the end of the cliff.
5. You fell but miraculously landed onto a deeper part of the river, cushioning your fall, and drifted to the cave entrance while unconscious.
Let me know if you have any comments or changes. I'm open to any thoughts you have

Grand Lodge

@Crucible: Can you fill up the inventory tracking sheet (link up on top)? I need it to quickly check for wealth progression. There's a tab just for you.

Sorry guys, I've bit off more than I can chew with games and need to scale back, and am going to have to depart from this one. :(

Grand Lodge

It's OK, I hit that wall once myself :)
If you can just post once more to jump-start how you leave the group, that would be of great help. I'll take it from there. If not, well... I'll think of something.

So two questions. First, are we replacing Haikyu given he is for certain bowed out? And second, do we know if Book Wyrm is going to come back? Last we heard from him was a few months ago. I am all for waiting to see if he comes back, but given Issac has been having issues posting as well it has kinda made our combat with this elemental a two on one show... not great odds for us as stands. Some reinforcements might be nice, just wondering how many we will need.

Forgeborn Warpriest (Forgepriest)|HP 22/22|Init+3|Perception+5|AC 20, touch 13, flat-footed 17| Fort+6,Ref+3,Will+8

I have mentioned to a few people i have played with in other pbp games that this is a fun game, i am guessing they never actually contacted.

Grand Lodge

Book has PM'd me and wouldn't be back.
No, no other contacted me but I feel like a smaller group is easier and faster to play with on PbP. What do you guys think? A group of 3 or 4?

Forgeborn Warpriest (Forgepriest)|HP 22/22|Init+3|Perception+5|AC 20, touch 13, flat-footed 17| Fort+6,Ref+3,Will+8

3-4 sounds good

That should work... 4 I think is typically standard when APs are created, but given Crucible we might be able to wing it with 3.

Forgeborn Warpriest (Forgepriest)|HP 22/22|Init+3|Perception+5|AC 20, touch 13, flat-footed 17| Fort+6,Ref+3,Will+8

Sent an email to a good friend that is big on RP and familiar with Pathfinder and pbp's for other games. I think he would be a good addition. And as I know him in real life it is easier to harass him if he doesn't send a submission in :P

Grand Lodge

Let's see if your friend will want to join first before I call for replacements.

Forgeborn Warpriest (Forgepriest)|HP 22/22|Init+3|Perception+5|AC 20, touch 13, flat-footed 17| Fort+6,Ref+3,Will+8

I have a game with him tomorrow night. Should be able to get him pointed in the right direction and give him some background then.

Grand Lodge

Alright, you guys have some time again anyway. I'll leave it to you and Raffe to roleplay the exploration of the temple and deal with the frozen box. I'll respond to how you act so don't wait for me.

Also, don't forget unconscious Issac and the ratfolk.

I won't stop you from doing rolls in advance if it's in accordance to your actions (e.g. Perception and Knowledge Checks). In fact, that would help speed PbP a lot. :)

Male Human (Taldar) Paladin 2 |HP 26/26|Init+3|Perception+1|AC 22, touch 11, flat-footed 21| Fort+8,Ref+4,Will+7

Hi Everyone!!! I am a friend of Crucible out of game and he has been raving about this game and group (including DM) that I just had to see if I could join!!! I posted my character concept, and I am more into the story side of things but my main thing is I want everyone to have fun!!! Hope you will approve me to join!!!

Male Human Wizard / 2 | AC 11 T 11 F 10 | HP 18/18 | F +2 R +1 W +5/+3 | Init +1 | Perc +2

Welcome. I am Raffe, with Issac being ... extendidly away from his keyboard ... um... yeah, last remaining of the original five (though I do hope that Issac comes back and disproves that).

I only have two questions for your character (and no, you don't owe me the answers as some form of initiation or test or whatnot... I am only asking because it will help me in working with you in game):

1) What god do you serve? Who is this deity to you? Why do you serve him/her, and what is important to do to honor this deity (and furthermore, do you care if you do or don't)?

2) What do you see yourself being the "Subject Matter Expert" of for our little band? Conversely, what areas or skills do you need help from Crucible and myself (and hopefully Issac) to accomplish?

I do hope that you have fun. While this has been a tad slow due to people dropping off (for reasons away from the table) it has also been enjoyable. Having a new face (to me anyway) will just make it more so.

Male Human (Taldar) Paladin 2 |HP 26/26|Init+3|Perception+1|AC 22, touch 11, flat-footed 21| Fort+8,Ref+4,Will+7

Excellent questions, and well met Raffe!!!

To answer them:

1) I serve the lord Ragathiel, the Empyreal lord of Vengeance. I serve because of what Ragathiel stands for, for more than vengeance, Ragathiel is as well the lord of chivalry and duty. To honor him is to live your life as an example to others, so the Code of Chivalry may shine as beacon to all who are lost and scared. As to if I care, well, let us see how my light shines before you all.......

2. While not an expert in the ways of the arcane or even the divine compared to you two, I would be able to assist in discussions with anyone, even negotiations, as well as stand in the front lines if combat is needed. I am not skilled in the ways of traps or of finding tracks, and would readily accept assistance on these fronts.

I hope this answers your questions satisfactorily!!

Grand Lodge

Heey, nice to see you here! :)

Can you still adjust your PC name to include the nickname? I tend to forget little things like that over the weekend when I'm off Paizo. Also, I'm waiting on your profile before I roleplay you into the Gameplay section.

Male Human (Taldar) Paladin 2 |HP 26/26|Init+3|Perception+1|AC 22, touch 11, flat-footed 21| Fort+8,Ref+4,Will+7

OK, I think I did the profile right, sorry, its first pbp on here, let me know If I need to change anything!!

Grand Lodge

@Nickolas: I'm actually looking for the stat block to audit, if available already.
Click on Crucible's or Raffe's profile for reference. Also, here's one of mine: Jake Bladebound

Grand Lodge

@Nickolas: You can post in the Gameplay section now.

Grand Lodge

Everyone still in vacation?

My apologies for having fallen off the grid for the last few days. My work has moving from one building to another and has been having us help with the moving of everything we will need in our new location.

Suffice to say, I have been unable to post while at work and have been coming home late in the evening, tired and fried. I hope to be able to catch up on what has been happening in my games this weekend. If not I will update my status to reflect it.

Feel free to bot me if necessary, I do not want to hold up progress. I really am sorry for both my not being here and me taking this long to even post a generic message.

Regards,

-The Emerald Duke
