I had placed a preorder for 3 copies of the Pathfinder 2e rulebook and 1 copy each of the playtest adventure and flip mat pack. Having never seen a charge come through to my bank account I checked in here and show no such order in my order history. I can't make it to GenCon and I really don't want to miss out on this. I'm very upset to see that my order has seemingly vanished.

Do you have dreams of being a professional RPG writer? Think your game material is as good as that produced by Super Genius Games, Purple Duck Games, and others? Want to get an honest critique of your RPG material by gaming notables such as Owen Stephens, Mark Gedak, Jay Peters and others? Then you need to come to Great Falls Gaming Rendezvous 2013 and enter the RPG Writer's Workshop! The deadline for entries has been extended to September 21, 2013. The winning entry receives the GFGR Discovery Award during closing ceremonies, and last year's winner now has a contract to produce a product for Purple Duck Games! You could be next!

For Immediate Release

4 Winds Fantasy Gaming’s owner/publisher, Robert Thomson, announced today that 4 Winds Fantasy Gaming will be acquired by Purple Duck Games. The acquisition includes rights to all existing 4 Winds Fantasy Gaming products and over a dozen “in-the-works” projects (including the two successful crowdfunded projects), along with the rights to all names, logos, trademarks, and original artwork contained in the products.

“My wife Connie and I started 4 Winds in March 2009, and it’s been a fun, wild ride. But the time is right for us to divest ourselves of the company and move on to other things,” said Thomson. In the nearly four years of 4 Winds existence, the company released 48 different products, including several apps.

Mark Gedak, owner/publisher of Purple Duck Games stated that Purple Duck intends to keep the 4 Winds brand alive, and that all existing 4 Winds products will remain available for now. Any 4 Winds “in-the-works” projects that Purple Duck chooses to finish will probably carry dual Purple Duck/4 Winds branding.

“I want to keep the 4WFG brand intact and add it to Purple Duck’s, allowing us to continue to build on the great work done by both companies,” said Gedak.

The acquisition will be complete as of January 31, 2013. After the acquisition, Thomson will stay on with Purple Duck Games as developer of the 4 Winds “in-the-works” projects.

With a certain movie coming out Friday, featuring 13 dwarves (plus a wizard and a halfling), you might want to give your own dwarven character some extra flavor with new feats, new flaws, new weapons and equipment, and two new dwarven subraces - the half-dwarf and the stone dwarf. Player's Options: Dwarves was designed by Sean O'Connor. Get it now at DriveThruRPG and - hopefully - tomorrow at Paizo for only $1.99!

And if your dwarves need a good burglar, don't forget to grab Player's Options: Halflings, too!

I have been rewatching Star Trek TNG lately, and I want to introduce an npc based on a character in the season 2 episode "Loud as a Whisper". The character is deaf and mute but uses a "chorus" of three people he communicates with telepathically to do his speaking.

In my game, I am thinking of making the npc a religious figure, but being deaf and mute precludes being a spellcaster. Any suggestions on what class to use for the NPC?

For Immediate Release

4 Winds Fantasy Gaming announced today that Sean O’Connor has been named as their Pathfinder-compatible line leader and CJ Ruby has been named as their Exploding Aces line leader. “Sean and CJ are perfect to handle these two lines for us, freeing up Connie and I for other things as the company grows,” said 4 Winds Fantasy Gaming co-owner and publisher Robert Thomson.

Sean O’Connor is a resident of Phillipsburg, New Jersey, but has been an integral part of 4 Winds Fantasy Gaming since its inception in March 2009. His name is on the cover or in the interior credits of eight of the nine print products released so far by 4 Winds Fantasy Gaming, and Sean was the lead designer of four of those products. He has also written or contributed to several of 4 Winds’ PDF-only products.

“4 Winds Fantasy Gaming gave me my first opportunity to work on RPGs on a professional level. They had a lot of faith in me and let me go in unconventional directions with some of my ideas,” said O’Connor. “In addition,” he added, “the owners of 4WFG are some of the nicest, most decent people I've ever met and they've become good friends.”

“Pathfinder-compatible products were our start and remain our bread and butter,” said Robert Thomson. “Though our release schedule on print products has slowed in the past year, we have exciting plans to continue our presence.”

O’Connor also added, “The Pathfinder Roleplaying Game by Paizo is a great toolbox for 3rd party publishers. By keeping the tenants of the OGL and by streamlining from the 3.5 system, you have a lot of options to implement concepts that can be fine-tuned so that they're neither game-breaking nor wildly impractical, and that's great for the developers and the players.”

In addition to his work for 4 Winds Fantasy Gaming, Sean O’Connor has also contributed to Dungeonaday.com and Purple Duck Games.

CJ Ruby is a resident of Great Falls, Montana, and has been a playtester and designer/developer on several 4 Winds Fantasy Gaming Products. With the upcoming release of CJ Ruby’s Exploding Aces, 4 Winds’ first fully original roleplaying game, CJ is being moved into the logical position of line leader for that system.

“4WFG's products have been well received for the quality of content and editorial design. I'm glad to have had a very small part of 4WFG's Luven Lightfinger's Gear & Treasure Shop and a slightly larger part in Inkantations,” said Ruby. “And,” he continued, “4WFG must have seen something they liked when they approached me about producing Exploding Aces.”

“It just made sense to us that we should put CJ in charge of the product line for the very system he is developing for us,” said Robert Thomson. “We know the Kickstarter will be successful, and we’ve already had some interest from other companies in producing Ace Content material for the system, so CJ will take the lead in developing not only our in-house supplements and expansion, but working with other companies on compatible material.”

Speaking about Exploding Aces, CJ said, “My hope for Exploding Aces is that it'll give folks an easy to learn, easy to play, game system with a mechanic that makes it unique and adds to the atmosphere of a distinct gaming experience. For myself, the turn of a card has always been a magical moment as the tension builds before it is revealed. I hope some of that magic has made it into Exploding Aces.”

In addition to his work for 4 Winds Fantasy Gaming, CJ Ruby will have his first published short story, The Sewing Room Witch and Uncle Kitty, appear in Sky Warrior Books' anthology The Mystical Cat later this month.

There have been a number of threads on this board about how to get into the industry either as a freelancer or a publisher. Now, here's something that might be of interest to those with such an, uh, interest. The Great Falls Gaming Rendezvous (Great Falls, MT, October 5-7) will be holding an RPG Writers Workshop, where workshop participants can get feedback on their ideas and concepts from industry folks such as Guest of Honor CthulhuBob Lovely (Bob has repped for both Steve Jackson Games and Chaosium, and is the chair for MisCon), John Goff (Deadlands Noir, Deadlands Reloaded), and CJ Ruby (Luven Lightfinger's Gear & Treasure Shop, Inkantations: A Sourcebook of Tattoo Magic & Body Art). One lucky participant will be selected by the critiquing panel to produce a short (25,000 words maximum) product for PDF publication by 4 Winds Fantasy Gaming.

If you are interested, check out the info here: GFGR.org. To be selected as the winner, you must attend the event and be present during the workshop.

Gamers in or near central Montana, the Great Falls Gaming Rendezvous takes place October 5-7 at the TownHouse Inn. We'll have RPGs (including PFS scenarios), board games, card games, miniature games, anime music videos, a costume contest, panels about games and gaming, and an RPG Writers Workshop.

Check out the info at GFGR.org

There will be 3 Pathfinder Society scenarios run at the Great Falls Gaming Rendezvous October 5-7 in Great Falls, Montana, for those who are or may be in the area.

We have released the 3rd character sneak peek promo for our upcoming book Deus ex Historica, this time featuring the Iron Age hero known as No. 1 Gun. And best of all, it's FREE!

Hey guys, we've got a Kickstarter going, which I've linked to from a different board here at Paizo already, because it's not a PFRPG-compatible product.

BUT! If that project gets to $2000 before midnight tonight (April 8), everyone that backs it (those that already have, and those that will in the future) gets one of our Pathfinder-compatible PDFs for FREE!

So, if you want a FREE PFRPG-compatible PDF from 4 Winds Fantasy Gaming, click the link to the other board and see if our Kickstarter is something you might want to back.

It's been a busy week for us at 4 Winds Fantasy Gaming, and it's only Monday! Check out our latest addition to the Player's Options line for PFRPG - Player's Options: Halflings! It's available now at DriveThruRPG and should be up here at Paizo in the next day or so!

This month marks our 3rd anniversary, and to celebrate, we're having a sale! Take 30% off all our PDFs, now through March 31!

And as a side note, if you like supers RPGs, check out our Kickstarter for Deus ex Historica!

Hey all! We've started a Kickstarter campaign to help us finish up Deus ex Historica, our first Super-powered by M&M product (compatible with the 3rd edition of Green Ronin's Mutants & Masterminds RPG). If you love comics or supers RPGs, check it out!

We have lowered the PDF prices for The Book of Divine Magic, Paths of Power, Luven Lightfinger's Gear & Treasure Shop and Strategists & Tacticians to $9.99US and The Book of Arcane Magic to $7.99US. This brings these product's prices into line with our more recent PDF pricing. This is a permanent price change, not a sale.

We at 4 Winds Fantasy Gaming know that many of you have been waiting a long time – months, in fact – for several of our products. We are behind on releasing numerous print products that should have been out already, including The Apothecary’s Handbook, Tyranny & Manipulation, Paths of Power 2, Deus ex Historica, Exploding Aces, and The GOLD Guide to Competitive Gaming. I’m not going to go into the specifics of why we are behind, mostly because it has been covered before, but I will say that we vastly overestimated our ability to get print products out in the time we originally set for them. This is partially due to the fact that we are a two-person outfit, not counting freelancers, and one of those two also holds a full-time day job. Rest assured, however, that we fully intend to see that each and every promised title is released in 2012. We currently have only one title we had already scheduled for 2012 (Fae Ways), and we are not going to schedule any more releases until the previously promised titles are finished and all of them are released.

Some of you may have already pre-ordered a few of these titles and we certainly understand your frustrations at not yet receiving them. If you have pre-ordered and feel you have waited too long, please contact whomever you pre-ordered through and cancel your order and ask for a refund of your money. We won’t blame you if you do. We do hope that when the title is finally released in 2012 that you will return to purchase it.

I can tell you that most of the previously announced titles are nearly complete. Many are only waiting on editing and layout. One is still waiting on art, but the art order is under way. These books WILL be completed. That is our goal in 2012.

We thank you for your continued support.

Happy New Year,
Robert & Connie Thomson

4 Winds Fantasy Gaming has released their second product in the PDF line of Random Acts of... products. It is currently available at DriveThruRPG, and should be available here at Paizo soon!

Random Acts of... Old West Violence, second in the line, presents the GM with 100 randomly generated acts of violence suitable for a variety of Old West-themed RPGs. In no case are stats for any NPCs given - indeed no names are even given - and no weapon or damage stats are included. This allows a GM to use the Random Acts of... Old West Violence with many different game systems.

Future installments of the series will be designed for super hero, sci-fi, and other genres. And look for the first release in the line, Random Acts of... Violence, available now!

Our annual Cyber Monday sale is in full swing here at Paizo.com! All of our PDFs and some of our print products are 30% off for today only! Don't miss out!

Player’s Options: Aasimars, Tieflings, and Elemental Templates is now available at DriveThruRPG and will hopefully be available here at Paizo tomorrow!

Have you ever wanted to play an aasimar, tiefling or elemental-kin, but you also wanted to play a halfling or an elf? Or maybe you've just always wondered why, if outsiders regularly mate with humans to produce aasimars, tieflings and elemental-kin, why don't they do the same with dwarves, gnomes or even minotaurs? The answers to those questions are, you can and they do!

Player’s Options: Aasimars, Tieflings, and Elemental Templates turns each breed into a template that can be easily applied to any humanoid or monstrous humanoid race, allowing players to create halfling aasimar, half-orc tieflings, or djinni-kin minotaurs. Each of the three types is further broken down into multiple templates, depending on the exact lineage of the character, giving players a total of eighteen new options to customize their characters!

Robert's 42nd Birthday Sale! As we well know, 42 is the answer to life, the universe and everything, so in honor of 4 Winds Fantasy Gaming co-founder Robert Thomson's 42nd birthday, all 4WFG PDFs (and PDFs only) will be 42% off for 4 short days, Thursday September 29 through Sunday October 2!

Random Acts of... Violence, the first in our new Random Acts of... line is now available at DriveThruRPG and Your Games Now for only $1.99!

It should hopefully be available here at Paizo soon as well!

A dart flies across the inn's common room and hits a PC in the face...

Random Acts of...Violence, first in our new line of PDF products, presents a GM with 100 different randomly generated acts of violence, from randomly hurled mugs in a tavern to the aftermath of a murder in an alleyway. In no case are stats for any NPCs given - no names are even given - and no weapon, spell or damage stats are included. This allows a GM to use the Random Acts of...Violence with many different game systems.

A GM can pick one of the acts from the list, usually picking one that will work best for the current situation, or she can roll d100 (d%) to randomly generate a true random act. Entire random encounters can be created by using the random acts table!

The Random Acts of... line is currently geared for the fantasy genre. Future installments of the series will be designed for super hero, sci-fi, and other genres.

Phantasia Zoologica Volume I: Cats, Dogs & Horses is now available in PDF format at DriveThruRPG and Your Games Now, and should be available here at Paizo in the next day or so! A print edition will follow in a few weeks.

This product replaces and expands upon Phantasia Zoologica I: Dogs, which was released last year. We are working on a way to try to get PDFs of this new product to folks who purchased the old one. Hopefully we can get that to work!

Cats and Dogs and Horses, Oh My!

When faced with the wide assortment of magical and wondrous creatures fantasy settings present, it's easy to forget about the animals so similar to the ones we know in real life. The mundane critters we know so well seemingly have no role to play in a game full of the beasts of dreams of nightmares. But how far can your adventuring party get without horses?

Phantasia Zoologica takes a fresh look at real-world animal species for inclusion in your fantasy game. This first volume explores cats, dogs, and horses - mundane and fantastic alike. Among the dozens of entries, you'll find everything from golden retrievers and Clydesdales, to orcish wolf-dogs and scimitar cats, to magical maneki neko and horrific zombie steeds. If having such amazing creatures wasn't enough, you can outfit them from the gear and equipment also included in this book.

Whether you're seeking new creatures for the party to encounter, want a special mount, familiar, or animal companion for your character, or just want a cool pet to add to a character's background or development, Phantasia Zoologica has what you're looking for!

My last article at Kobold Quarterly went up a few days ago: Holy Women, Demon Fighters. It has the demon fighter archetype for the APG witch class, based on a Cherokee legend.

Enjoy!

While not exclusively a PFRPG-compatible product, our upcoming line of PDFs will be system neutral, and thus compatible with any number of systems, including PFRPG.

Releasing early next month is the first in a new line of short PDF products called Random Acts of... The first product will be Random Acts of Violence. Each product in the line will have 100 different one- to three-sentence story bites that can be used to give flavor to scenes and settings or be used as adventure seeds for further adventures.

Random Acts of... is system neutral, but the initial release will be for the fantasy genre. Future releases will include Random Acts of Kindness, Random Acts of Deception, Random Acts of Horror, Random Acts of Justice, Random Acts of the Gods, Random Acts of Humor, and Random Acts of Love & Passion. The default genre will remain fantasy, but we also plan releases for other genres, such as Random Acts of Super Violence (comic book/supers), Random Acts of Future Violence (sci-fi), etc.

As there are exactly 100 random acts in each release, a GM can easily roll d100 to randomly generate an adventure seed or scene/setting detail. No game stats are included in order to keep the acts system neutral, and thus of use in many different RPGs.

Each release in the line will sell for $1.99, and will be available at Paizo.com, DriveThruRPG/RPGNow and Your Games Now.

Here are a few samples from the first release, Random Acts of Violence:

39. After a night on the town, the PCs return to their inn where one finds a severed finger nailed to the door to their room.

40. As the PCs walk down a street, a man comes crashing through a door into the street, obviously thrown through the door by the large half-orc inside the building.

41. As the PCs are fording a river they notice a body lodged against some rocks. Investigating, they discover the body has a slit throat and clearly did not die from drowning.

42. Passing through a village square, the PCs see a peasant woman run screaming from a well. At the bottom of the well is a dead body.

43. While the PCs are shopping in a general store, several thugs armed with clubs and crossbows burst in, demanding all the coins.

44. Walking down a street at night, the PCs are surprised by a black-clad man leaping from an alley and smashing one PC in the chest with a 2x4.

45. The local lord is giving a speech in the town square when someone shoots him with a crossbow.

46. The PCs find a body in an alleyway. The person is alive – barely – buy has had the flesh flayed from both arms and legs.

We have also released an open call for folks that may be interested in contributing to future installments of this line of products. For details on the open call, check our messageboards.

Ryan Costello, Jr., contributor on Luven Lightfinger's Gear & Treasure Shop and designer/author on Strategists & Tacticians, will be signing copies of both books in the Studio 2 Publishing booth (booth #605) today from 4-6pm and again tomorrow at the same time.

The first in a series of articles I'm writing for Kobold Quarterly's blog is up right now. http://www.koboldquarterly.com/k/front-page10248.php. Each article focuses on the American Indian peoples of specific regions of North America, and will include character class archetypes, magic items, feats, etc. The first one, Buffalo Runners, Buffalo Callers (Part 1 of 2) starts with a ranger archetype.

Woohoo! Thanks for featuring Tome of Monsters in the Store Blog.

We have been considering making Android and iPhone app versions of our Monster Knowledge Cards, Bard Cards, Condition Cards, Monster Summoning Cards and Nature's Ally Summoning Cards. Would this be something you might be interested in?

Two days ago, we asked a question on our Facebook page about how people first heard about 4 Winds Fantasy Gaming, and we've had some pretty darn good response (probably close to 20% of our total "likes" of the page responded).

While the majority chose "Some Other Way" (with most then commenting to tell us how they heard about us), the specific way that received the most votes was "Paizo Blog or Store".

So, to everyone at Paizo who supports us - and ALL the 3PP - Thank you, thank you, thank you for promoting us in the blog and providing us a place to sell our products.

4 Winds Fantasy Gaming announces Fae Ways: A Player’s Guide to the Fae, a PFRPG product aimed at giving player’s options for playing fey characters, from full-blooded fey creatures, to half-bloods and feykissed. New feats, such as the new Glamour category, and new sorcerer bloodlines will allow players to customize non-fey characters with fey backgrounds, powers and abilities.

Fae Ways: A Player’s Guide to the Fae is the concept of lead designer William Matross. William is a new name to the industry, but is a long-time gamer and a dedicated member of the MisCon planning committee. William will be assisted by 4 Winds Fantasy Gaming regulars CJ Ruby and Sean O’Connor.

Fae Ways: A Player’s Guide to the Fae will debut at MisCon 26, May 25-28, 2012. The theme of MisCon 26 is A Fairy Tale.

Fae Ways: A Player’s Guide to the Fae ©2011 4 Winds Fantasy Gaming. All Rights Reserved.

You can see a sneak peek at the nearly-finished cover for Phantasia Zoologica Vol I: Cats, Dogs & Horses on our Facebook page. The book is by award-winning author of fantasy fiction and animal non-fiction books, MH Bonham. Cover art, as usual, by the very talented Kristen M. Collins.

NOTE - you do not have to have a Facebook account in order to view anything on your page.

If you've followed some of the threads on here, you may be aware that I've spent the last 3 months searching for a new and inexpensive source for print copies. This was because we recently experienced an explosion in demand for our print books that took us, quite frankly, by surprise. I know many of you are waiting on copies of Inkantations or Tome of Monsters ordered through Paizo. Well, those books will be coming soon. We have recently worked out a deal (which I can't mention specifics on yet) that will allow us to easily supply the print copies demanded, and in a timely manner (for future releases, at least). So, long story short, print copies will be arriving relatively soon, at Paizo and at your FLGS.
