Scarab Sages

It would break my existing campaign, so I'm skipping it.

Scarab Sages

Precog page 9:

Quote:
Your selection of spells is limited. You begin play knowing four 0-level spells and two 1st-level spells of your choice. At each new precog level, you learn one or more new spells, as indicated on Table 1–3: Precog Spells Known. Unlike your spells per day, the numbers of spells you know isn’t affected by your Dexterity modifier.

I assume it’s supposed to be intelligence?

First question! Can you use your major forms to create armor? Examples in the gear array description only mention weapons and cybernetic augmentations.

B) Do your nanites form all the major and minor forms all at once, or is it as you need the item it's just there.

Non and no

It's like the biggest problem with the class... You cannot form armor upgrades and there's no way to form 2 or more forms per gear array, so you're stuck juggling items with different item levels.

Perhaps another roundabout way of getting this answered short of it getting a FAQ entry...

Are there published Nanocyte stat blocks in any published books?

Scarab Sages

Mathias answered me on the LWD forums, this is what he said:

Quote:

This is the combination of rules that led us to the decision to exclude the analog property.

CRB pg 180, in Analog: 'It is immune to abilities that target technology"

TR pg 10: "weapons and items must be technological items (not magic or hybrid),"

An official yes or no would be grand, but I know how I'm house ruling it for my game. It does make HLO slightly less useful for me though.

Scarab Sages

Here's another Nanocyte question.

For major gear array, there's nothing that specifically says you can't make non-powered melee weapons (note, it doesn't say you can either but analog was not excluded). It just doesn't make sense to me that I could create a laser pistol, but can't create a dagger.

I ask, because Hero Lab Online implemented it as only powered melee weapons... and based on previous experience , short of Paizo telling them they're wrong they're just going to get defensive and say it's implemented as written.

Scarab Sages

Perhaps it was taken care of then, but I’d had two subscriptions that were paused/suspended.

I have a different issue now. When I attempt to purchase a subscription, I select the correct shipping address and the payment method. I have two addresses & two payment methods shown.

I select the address I want to ship to, and then my payment method... but when I attempt to complete the transaction, it shows the wrong address for that payment method. Prior experience says if I continue the purchase will fail because that’s not the correct shipping zip code.

Interestingly, the other payment method can not be deleted because it supposedly has subscriptions using it.

That suggests that some part of your system still thinks I have subscriptions.

Can you please clear all of my subscriptions & payment methods?

Scarab Sages

I have a couple of subscriptions that I had y'all put on hold back in February or March of 2020. Unfortunately there seems to be no way for me to either end those subscriptions or reactivate them on my end.

Emailed for such in November I believe, but I know there's a major backlog. Can I get someone to just cancel all of my existing subscriptions, and then I can start the ones I want again?

Thanks

Scarab Sages

Funny that you should mention dragons. A lack of templates for any beyond Chromatics seems like a poor choice.

Overall, I like the book but a) it feels like the appendix rules for NPCs and creatures should have been in the main book, and b) there should have been more critters overall. It's kind of thin for its price.

Scarab Sages

There seems to be a problem with the filtering of the event listing. If I limit to Lottery and Seminars, I get four events, none of which are seminars.

Scarab Sages

I got all but a Cayden from my case... sadly, he's not available as a single. Anyone have an extra that they'd like to sell or trade?

PM sent.

I called and made the reservation directly with the hotel. They gave me the con rate for Thursday through Tuesday. I think it's just that the online tool can't do that.

Scarab Sages

I'm booked. Ran into some problems with the online system when I tried to book a couple of extra days, but the reservation clerks at the hotel were able to get it all set up for me.

Oh, and sleestak, of course.

(I love dinosaurs and love that you're doing this, but you got all my picks, so I had to throw it back to my favorite Saturday morning TV show when I was a kid).

Even as a 13 year old kid Torchy irked me, because they didn't breathe fire! AAGGHH..it still irks me, it seems. But sleestaks.. Yeah!

My next game very likely will make use of, or borrow heavily from Isle of Dread, with the addition of Robert E. Howard/Clark Ashton Smith style Serpentfolk and Degenerate Serpentfolk. I think I worked on this for an hour or two before I realized I'd just described Land of the Lost. ;)

For someone with a higher than average bonus expected for a level taking ten is a strait out increased chance of success. The DCs are not random: they're reasonable for your level.

That's far from certain. For example, let's say a goblin is planning to ambush you. He has a stealth skill of +10. If the goblin doesn't take 10 to hide, the DC for your Perception versus his Stealth roll is random - between +11 and +30 - with more variance added for circumstances. If your perception is +20, taking 10 to spot the goblin makes it reliable that you will succeed. If your perception skill is something like +7 (more plausible at a level where a goblin is a threat), rolling probably has a higher chance of succeeding.

In any case where the entire party is travelling together and you want at least one of them to spot the DC 25 hidden treasure, and you all have +12 Perception modifiers, then you're guaranteed to fail if you take 10, but almost certain to succeed if there are four people rolling.

In that particular case, wouldn't three of them be doing Aid Another, instead?

And we got an encouraging answer:

I want to be clear, the contents of this year's bag were awesome. But if it's possible, I'd love a bag like the cool canvas one of two years ago, over the purple thang.[/ooc]

I brought my canvas bag with me, but papa's always happy with a brand new bag...

While I was a huge fan of the previous hotel, being a Marriott rewards member with a bazillion points, even I have to admit that the Doubletree Hilton was a major step up. You have room to grow into, and the service from the hotel staff was much better. Please give them as much positive feedback as you can.

Banquet: Please ask the hotel staff to come up with something better than putting the coffee and desserts in a place where we're forced to stand in front of Eric. That could have been handled better... but hey, it was their first year.

Games: I'd love to see more non-PFS Pathfinder events. I've tried PFS play and it just doesn't scratch the right itch for me. I did get into one of the Emerald Spire events, and that was fun... we even managed to avoid a TPK.

Seminars: I like that there were some miniature related seminars. Dallas' mini basing seminar was helpful. I really enjoyed the Games for Kids, and the Cartography seminars as well. The Cartography people seemed surprised to find out that they had projectors available to them, so they didn't come prepared to take advantage of them. Live and learn.

Store: The new space is MUCH bigger, but it felt like there was less third party product than the year before. No Green Ronin, which is a damn shame... Advanced Bestiary is one of the best third party books for Pathfinder ever. Also, the new Freeport book is just amazingly gorgeous. There was also no Raging Swan product, where there was the year prior. Creighton's stuff is great.

Not sure how to encourage more cosplay...

I'm another Dundracon regular. Maybe we should do a Bay Area meetup at Paizocon this year.

I had heard from some other posters that the hotel rate had been active for a while. You may want to double check you called the right hotel (DoubleTree) as I think I missed updating two of the FAQs with the new hotel's number.

I had an existing reservation without the con rate and he found that, so I'm pretty sure I had the right hotel. I'll call again in the morning.

Sorry for the necro... our group just looked closely at this spell today.

1) My reading of the spell, and specifically the "any bonuses or modifiers you applied to the attack from other magical items, feats, and class or racial features" would be that the favored enemy bonus would be included... IF it applied. In your example, the favored enemy bonus is for undead. The Necromancer is NOT undead, so no favored enemy bonus.

I'd also rule that even if the Ranger also had a favored enemy bonus for humans, they wouldn't get it here because that bonus is not part of the attack that 'killed' the zombie.

Now, another angle on the not metagaming the spell... the Ranger in my game was just gifted with three (count them, three ah ah ah) greater arrows of Fire Outsider slaying.

Well, you can either conserve these arrows and only use them when it's just the right moment...

Or, you target the weak fire elemental that's part of a group under the assumption that the arrow will kill it dead. At which point you now have an arrow eruption of greater arrows of fire outsider slaying... which is quite disturbing and as far as I can see, both RAW and RAI.

Scarab Sages

I can't speak as a Paizo person, but once upon a time I was he manager of a Kinko's. Unless Fed-Ex/Kinko's policies have changed, you should be able to request a copyright waiver form that states that you release them from all responsibility because you either have permission, there is no copyright, OR you own the copyright. That should be sufficient. What I don't know is if they still do this, and it's why I've always advocated that publishers grant explicit permission to print/reproduce a PDF for personal use along with the standard copyright disclaimers.

Scarab Sages

Not the con, the banquet... which is a big appeal for me. And yes, I know the dates, but until I can confirm the banquet, I won't request the time off because time off is weird with my employer.

Scarab Sages

Table 2-13 on page 99 lists:
Inn Stay (poor) - 2gp
Inn Stay (common) - 5sp
Inn Stay (good) - 2gp

I assume that Inn Stay (poor) should be 2sp, not 2gp.

Scarab Sages

With the delays, and therefore, the short notice I'm worried that the banquet will sell out near instantaneously...

I'm sure Paizo's just as frustrated about this as we are, but is there any chance of something soon. I am approaching a window of no longer being able to request the time off...

Scarab Sages

With the Con happening two months earlier, it would have made sense to officially announce earlier... but clearly that isn't happening. Hopefully both the con and the banquet don't sell out too quickly.

There is probably the same amount of character information in both the Player's Guide and Dark Markets. The rest of Dark Markets concentrates on GM information for the city of Katapesh, and to a lesser extent, the surrounding countryside. Both the Legacy of Fire AP and Dark Markets are 3.5 OGL, not Pathfinder so you may need to make some minor adjustments. The various essays and set pieces in the Legacy of Fire AP are also useful. There is also the Broken Chains module, which is set in Katapesh. Finally, People of the Sands, while focused on Osirion, still has its uses for a game set in Katapesh.

Scarab Sages

Ah, okay... I was trying to find a way to link a friend to the full list. I'll just tell them to dig through the store blog to find it.

I've been to PaizoCon twice, and will probably be going next year given the new dates.

It's definitely smaller than GenCon, and as you might expect, for the most part the games are Pathfinder (or more recently the adventure card game). On the other hand, if you want to meet Paizo staffers, they make a point of being super approachable. And if you like PFS, there is a large presence, and for the last few years they've run a test version of the upcoming GenCon special.

In short it's a nice supplement to GenCon, with the added bonus of being much more affordable. If Pathfinder is your thing, you won't be disappointed.

Definitely smaller is an understatement. Gen Con's attendance is around 55,000+. Paizocon's attendance is, I'm guessing, somewhere between 800 - 1200.

Scarab Sages

I have to assume that this is a better weekend overall for Paizo. Bigger venue, extra day, more time between PaizoCon and Gen Con. It makes sense overall.

But personally, it's more than a little frustrating as it conflicts with three large cons in the bay area, including KublaCon. It's going to be a real bummer for the local PFS crew.

How far is this new hotel from the SeaTac Marriott, where Paizocon has been previously held? I'm a Marriott rewards member, so I'm inclined to stay there rather than at the Doubletree if it's close enough?

And a Pawn Box based on this book is, of course, a good bet.

Pathfinder Battles miniatures based on some of the art also seems likely.

But all of that is just speculation, you understand.

A pawn box based on this would be a wonderful thing, as the one hole that the pawns don't do a good job of covering is when you need more than, say, three gnolls or orcs at a time. This is probably a better way of addressing the need for more of certain types of monsters than just selling a sheet of gnolls, or orcs, or whatever...
