The owl only threatens the square you are both in. Unless you take a some sort of precaution (a withdraw action for instance), he gets an AoO. Notch hasn't moved this round, but he is not flat-footed. (He attacked you last round--your AoO happened on his turn in round 4 while you were still outside the fog). The current attack triggers as you move out of the (clear) square into the mist. Evil owl of opportunity (talon, higher ground): 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 7 + 1 = 14 damage: 1d4 - 2 ⇒ (1) - 2 = -1 1 nonlethal The above was re-edited more times than I'd like to think about. ;)
Don't worry about the owl though he's coming right back. The owl swoops in from above and behind the wizard in the wood, its talons glowing with eerie St. Elmo's fire. shocking talon grasp v Numalar (higher ground, charge!): 1d20 + 7 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 7 + 2 + 1 = 23 damage: 1d4 - 2 ⇒ (2) - 2 = 0 electricity damage: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 1, 2) = 9 Before it hits, you get an attack of opportunity vs the ever elusive owl of death if you have a weapon ready. |
