Male Human Fighter 3

Thanks for all the fun.

I'd hate it all to end with Kaeso gorging himself in the inn, but it's been fun.

He was going to try to make a play for Drispeera. . .

Male Human Fighter 3

Kaeso has been enjoying the grub for a long time. :)

Male Human Fighter 3

"Well, I might as well get some food. Kaeso picks a table and reminisces loudly about how coming into town with his dad to trade. "Farming was a rough life, but a good one. Takes character to do that job, I say. And hunting--did I ever tell about the time I got a 14 point buck. . ?"

Trying to charm the locals, hoping to glean a bit more information. Plus, charming the locals is good. Make them think I'm one of them.

"Drispeera, Ionnia? Care for some grub?

Male Human Fighter 3

"Ale for everyone!" says Kaeso. Aside to Drispeera and Ioannia "We can afford it, can't we?" To the barmaid, in a whisper "Tea for me, I think." More loudly, "Lovely place you have here!"

With the ice broken, perhaps we can charm information out of them, as well as raise the morale?

Male Human Fighter 3

"I'll come, Dris." Mysterious cloaked man, huh? Maybe I need to get a cloak. I could be Mysterious Kaeso. . . Perhaps I could wear a mask? Super Kaeso!

"er, coming."

Hello All!

I'm Apocalypso/Drispeera's friend, Doug. I just wanted to drop a quick note introducing myself and assure you all I've been hard at work milling through character concepts.

I think I've settled on something workable and will do my best to quickly finalize a character outline for GM Nel's clearance.

Hope to be joining you all soon!

Hi Doug, Welcome!

I'm in Florida with wife and kids, and so might be slow to be respond. If we get in combat, just have me do something impetuous and noble, if you get tired of waiting for me.

Male Human Fighter 3

Fine with me.

Male Human Fighter 3

Silver longsword and silver arrowheads? It would be nice to be a masterwork longsword

"Alive? I guess. But if it gets close to you ladies, well, I'm going to take care of it."

Male Human Fighter 3

And, I don't know this Adventure Path at all, but I suspect this is the lull before new Big Bad guys show up, right?

Male Human Fighter 3

Sorry. Computer blew up.

I'm still here. I'd let you know if I weren't. Kaeso still has a big story arc, I think. Something Game-of-Thronesish.

Perhaps we could use a new player, though.

Lady Ionnia Orlovsky wrote:

"maybe our newest allies might know of something?" She said trying to hint that they should talk to the Worgs to rule them out.

Yes, dammit. But why are they partially eaten? That's weird, isn't it?

Survival check, if that helps.

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24

Critical survival check! I wish I could save some of these rolls.

Male Human Fighter 3

Kaeso hoists the corpse onto his spare horse. "No problem carrying him."

He looks at his arms and makes a look of disgust. "He smells a bit, though."

Male Human Fighter 3

"I'd hate to leave this unsolved. Shoot. I'd throw a rock in the pond, but in all of the stories of monsters when I was a kid, that was when the monster would come out and eat everyone."

Kaeso absent-mindedly picks up a rock.

Male Human Fighter 3

"We can't have giant turtles eating fishermen!" says Kaeso earnestly. He peers into the pond, attempting to see if there are any big beasties in it.

Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 17

Male Human Fighter 3

Kaeso looks around, shoes in hand.

Survival: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23

"Well, now that we are in charge, we had better find out what happened to him. It's our responsibility!" He looks a little more grown up and serious.

Male Human Fighter 3

"I guess we had better follow. Dris! Wait! Big guys in armor go first!"

Kaeso follows, walking down the path.

Male Human Fighter 3

"Spellcasters. . . . " Kaeso is still a little freaked out by the things Drispeera and Ionnia can do. "Well, I can lift heavy things!"

Male Human Fighter 3

Are we tapering a bit for the holidays?

Male Human Fighter 3

"Kaeso's Point. . . I like the sound of that." Kaeso looks around at the land and attempts to see a bit more deeply.

Survival check: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24

He also looks around for prosperous farmland:

Profession farmer: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

"Bingo, it's so good to have you riding with us again. I'd missed you. If only Norn. . . well, you know. . . "

Male Human Fighter 3

Kaeso looks around for a piece of parchment. "We should jot down the location of these fords. We will probably want to keep watch on natural attack routes."

Male Human Fighter 3

Kaeso looks at Dris with a blank expression: "So, let me get this straight: you're _not_ evil?"

Then he giggles, unable to keep a straight face. "Alignment is as alignment does, right?" Then he gives her a big bear hug. "No worries!"

Male Human Fighter 3

"Or blue-skin pointy-ears. . ." says Kaeso, glancing at Dris.

To the others: "I'll ride up here with some livestock soon as I can. I have a feeling this will very good."

Wolf allies. That is so cool!

Male Human Fighter 3

"We could do better than that, by Erastil! Humans raise animals for meat, so we never have to go hungry. We could share, if we could have peace and cooperation.

To Drispeera and the others: "this seems an opportunity wasted, if we must fight. Intelligent wolf allies would be awesome! I mean, would be very useful in keeping the peace."

Male Human Fighter 3

Kaeso casually readies his bow, just in case.

Male Human Fighter 3
Lady Ionnia Orlovsky wrote:
" So super intelligent raccoons?" She says with a light laugh."Sorry that is what i am picturing"

"The dumb raccoons are bad enough!" Kaeso shivers a bit.

Male Human Fighter 3

Kaeso begins to look around, but sees that Bingo has already taken care of it. Then, he does a double-take: Bingo!

"Glad to see you back with us!" He pumps Bingo's hand excitedly. "A new kingdom! Who would have expected? I guess Dris is a queen or something now--she's never been happier. Not even in a shoe shop!"

Drispeera D'Lith wrote:
Did you want the leather +1?

No, it's ok.

Male Human Fighter 3

I'm going to keep the armor I've got for now. The dexterity penalties are too high for the field plate, etc.

Male Human Fighter 3

I need better armor. Got to do some Hero-Labbing. I'll have it up by evening, so don't go into combat yet!

At the festival Dris is startled at first by Kaeso's enthusiasm. Then she grabs his arm and pulls him into a dance. Come on you big lug, dance with me! Wow, for such a muscle-bound guy, you sure are light on your feet.

"Well, I'm often told that I'm surprisingly light on my feet. Which, now that I think about it, isn't really a compliment!" Kaeso is delighted to dance with the fascinating and lovely Drispeera. Her appearance, her perfume, her blueness are all a bit much for him, and he starts to think un-Kaesoish thoughts. No, she'd never. . . not with me. . . Isn't she about two hundred years old?

To Ioannia: "What's the little girl's name? Well, aren't you pretty! Just like your mother. Lady Ioannia, may I have the honor of a dance with your lovely daughter?" Assuming Ioannia approves, Kaeso takes the little girl on a whirlwind around the dance floor, with lots of spins and jumps.

Great news gang!

I sent Bingo a private message, on the off chance that just maybe...

And he saw my message and said yes!

I think he probably means "yes" to intermittent playing as RL permits, but we're all good with that, right?

Of course!

I am finding my eyes glazing over a bit at all the kingdom talk. Kaeso is getting bored with the details, and wants to go do some adventuring. I hope Mornaura returns.

Anyway, count me in, but big dumb Kaeso is going to grin and pretend he knows what's going on. I will try to make up for it with dazzling role-playing.

Drispeera D'Lith wrote:

Yay Kaeso! It's good to see you. I was afraid we were tapering off.

Now Hopefully Ionnia pops in soon!

Kaeso, these 3 positions are "Man at Arms" with Slightly Different Flavor. I can really see Kaeso as a Marshal/Ranger-type guy. But also as General, if you see him as growing into a war leader by the time we get into war with other lands.:

** spoiler omitted **

** spoiler omitted **

** spoiler omitted **

Probably Marshall, then. Way back when we started, and Kaeso had super stats, I envisioned him as an Alexander the Great kind of character. Since we had to renorm our scores, he's a bit more simple, but good-hearted. Keeping the peace he can do. Coming up with battle plans and strategy, beyond the tactics of hand-to-hand combat, would probably be out of character.

It turns out, completely accidentally, that his latinate name and blonde hair makes him out to be some sort of Talderian/Ulfen hybrid. Perhaps all Ulfen, but adopted. Interesting. I hadn't read the campaign guide when I made him up.

Male Human Fighter 3

Kaeso is stunned by the news. He staggers for a bit, but then a grin spreads across his face. "This is so cool! Oh Dris, I don't care who leads or how you organize it--you know I'm with you--just check with Mornaura, we'll need her for sure--we'll need horses, and a guard force--and maybe we can get some land cleared and get these fields planted, maybe even get some settlers--wait till I show you what we could do with this land!" He's a bit breathless.

He startles Mornaura, Ioannia, and Drispeera with bear hugs. "Oh, I'm sorry. That did't hurt, did it?"

He walks around with a grin. "I need some beer! Who's with me?"

Male Human Fighter 3

I've got one more week of midterms, so I'll be slow. Sorry!

My cousin's a high school history teacher. He's slammed right now, averaging 4 hours of sleep a night. I do not envy you.

To hopefully simplify for everybody:
Top Priority Question:
1. What position do you want?

** spoiler omitted **

Master at arms, or whatever we call it. Kaeso wants to make peace, but knows he's not the brains to do it. In character, he'd support Drispeera, but worries she might declare war in order to get new shoes. Mornaura seems sensible and down to earth, and would make a worthy queen. Norn would be great, if he weren't dead. Kaeso would only take it upon himself to lead if there were chaos, and only he could stop it.

Secondary Questions:
Would love everyone's input, but if you don't respond, we'll assume you don't have a strong opinion.

2. Where shall we locate our Capitol city?
** spoiler omitted **

Not too concerned, except that the advantages of having rivers and transport nearby is that the enemies can use it as well. The Romans build the roads that the barbarians used to attack them.

3. Kingdom Alignment?
** spoiler omitted **

Good, more lawful than chaotic. Kaeso has been very upset by the lawlessness that he's seen.

4. The Leader
** spoiler omitted **

see above. Don't want it to be me.

5....

Just wondering how everyone's doing?

Or does everyone want to blow past this and find some more combat?

sorry, midterm week.

I pan substantive posts soon. But I'm buried in grading at the moment.

Male Human Fighter 3

After eating a prodigious amount of stew, Kaeso pulls Jhod aside discreetly, and says "Um, I don't know how to say this, but could you teach me a bit about Erastil? She was Mom's god, and she meant to teach me, but then she passed, and Dad didn't care too much about such things." Perhaps I can help finish Norn's work, should he not be raised. . .

I miss Bingo.

Male Human Fighter 3

Kaeso perks up: "Did someone say 'meat?' Yes, please!"

Sorry, I was out of town at a conference.

Male Human Fighter 3

Kaeso, who has been looking down at his saddlehorn most of the ride, perks up. "Oh, berry picking! I used to love to do this. Let me give it a try"

Survival: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19

Male Human Fighter 3

I'm content to follow. Kaeso is brooding a bit right now over the death of Norn, and so will meekly follow and kill what needs killing.

Male Human Fighter 3

Kaeso attempts to hear what the ladies are saying:

Perception check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18

He blushes beet-red.

"It was creepier last time." He picks up the ranseur and tests the balance. "Hmm. Never seen one of these before. I wonder how you use it?" He looks around to make sure everyone is out of the way, and then takes a few practice swings and lunges. Before long, he looks like a veteran ranseurist.

"Could you ladies help me figure out what this thing does? I'd be much obliged."

Male Human Fighter 3

Kaeso stops Drispeera: "Let me take care of that for you." He lifts the corpse easily off the horse and holds it over his head.

"If you want it, you can have it!" He bends his knees a bit and flings the body forward into the river.

Male Human Fighter 3

Kaeso loads the corpse of the Stag Lord onto his extra horse, and gingerly takes the helm. "I hope this thing is safe to use, but we might need that deadly aim."

Sorry--life has been busy here. I'm still in. I promise, if I'm ever out, I'll go out in a blaze of glory!

Male Human Fighter 3

Kaeso sure would like to use that Stag Helm, especially while Norn is out of commission.

Mornaura wrote:

Mornaura would like the ring of protection or the amulet of natural armor.

I'd say that the mass of small coins, jewelry and trade goods can be used to compensate Restov for the material component cost of Raise Dead, if needed - as the required diamond is worth 5,000 gp and the promised 6 masterwork weapons only 1800ish gp.

The trade goods (and misc adventuring gear) might also come in handy later - when we want to develop our mine.

I could use the mwk chain shirt, the longsword +1, the Composite Bow +1 (since I took Deadly Aim this level), and perhaps a cure serious wounds potion or two. I'd like the human bane arrow. Bingo should have the rapier, even though he's NPCing now. It's what Kaeso would do.

As for plans, I'm indifferent as long as we take care of the river. In character, Kaeso really wants Norn back, so is willing to do whatever it takes.

What's the Stag Lord's helmet do?

Male Human Fighter 3

Kaeso looked up to Norn. As a new fighter, he isn't too sure of himself, outside of combat itself. "I'd sure like to have him back. I can't think but that Erastil's got work for him.

Frustrated with the delay, and with not having Norn to rely on for advice, Kaeso finally reaches a decision. Looking down at the prone body of the Stag Lord, he growls at him: "I find you guilty. Guilty of murder, of banditry, of making hard lives harder, and of not paying the Tuskwater toll!" Then, he jams the rapier hard into his eye socket, killing the bastard.

He cleans the rapier off on the Stag Lord's cloak, and turns to Bingo: "I think this might be just the thing for you, dear friend." He hands him the blade.

After the deed is done, shaking a bit, surprised at what he has done, Kaeso looks at his friends. "Sorry. We need to open up the river, don't we? His body is the key."

Male Human Fighter 3

Sorry I'm a bit slow. It's the start of the semester and I've got to teach first classes this week. I'll try to respond to the action sometime tonight.

Alas, Bingo! I wish we didn't have to lose you. We'll need to recruit someone, I guess.

Male Human Fighter 3

Kaeso looks down at the Stag Lord in disgust, then trudges heavily out to Dovan's body and picks up his rapier. He walks back to the Stag Lord.

As he passes Ionnia, he pauses: "I know he's not your god--do you know how Erastilian funerals go? I'm sorry--never did much as a kid--mom would have known--oh Gods, Norn!"

Standing athwart the Stag Lord, rapier pointing at his eye, Kaeso asks "Any reason why I shouldn't finish him off?" Norn would have known what to do, but he's dead!

Male Human Fighter 3

Kaeso steps up to make a flanking attack, wondering where Bingo's accent has gone. Strange thoughts in combat! Concentrate, Kaeso!

Warhammer: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 8 + 2 = 14
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

Hopefully, again, I'm too close for an arrow attack of opportunity. I'm fighting like a short-armed boxer.

Maybe he's flat-footed? Pretty please? :)

Male Human Fighter 3

Enjoy!
