Bless does count and also the miss chance. However, Mornaura's plan has a poor side effect:
Kaeso, seeing the Stag Lord ready to shoot someone (assuming Norn), takes a swing at the Stag Lord's feet. However, with a nimble jump, he dodges, and swipes Kaeso's legs back on the way down, making Kaeso fall prone instead!
With a grin, he takes his shot. *THWAK* He spits on Kaeso's armor as a free action >=) "You don't want to know where I stuck my arrow in your friend." he says in a grim voice.
Crits happen, maybe in the future he can get raised. :) I'd be more worried about it not happening again, so you need to take this guy down! RP Norn's demise!

Mornaura |

Oh dear... Didn't know the Stag Lord got Improved Unarmed Strike. :/
Hmm, now that Dris mentioned Bingo... Shouldn't the Stag Lord provoke an AoO from Bingo on the way to his shooting position?
IMO, on the ground floor map, the square below Norn is clearly blocked by the stone wall. So, between that wall and the wooden one, the Stag Lord could only move through the square above the "B" of the Owlbear (the square in which Norn stood in map 13/14). And moving from that square to his position in map 17 should provoke from Bingo, right?
Anyway, assuming the Stag Lord is still alive one way or another...
Mornaura can't see clearly what happens below, but catching a glimpse of the tall figure stalking through the mist and hearing the horrible sound of an arrow penetrating armor and flesh - yet again - is enough to know that something bad happened, even before the Stag Lord's taunt.
"Oh dear Spirits, why do you forsake us?", she moans, then shakes her head for a moment, desperately trying to ignore the horrible feelings clenching her intestines. She concentrates on the otherworldy powers flowing through her body, forming and focusing them until she sends them out, reaching for the Stag Lord's mind. "You better sleep now so that we can end this quickly - otherwise I'll make sure you are wide awake while you die slowly..."
Okay, it's really more like: Please fail your save against the Slumber hex - otherwise this battle will become even more messy. ;)

GM Nel |

Two more bad news RE: above... 1) Bingo cannot take a sneak attack anywhere in here because of the conceealment from the obscuring mist. So we will say he goes over to Jeb and finish that off. I think Bingo would have done that. 2) Mornaura cannot see the Stag Lord, as any vision past 5 feet in obscuring mist is blocked. Hexes still need line of sight and effect.
You could dismiss the obscuring mist if you want >:) (standard action)

Mornaura |

Crap, I forgot the "cannot use sight to locate" part of concealment. Alright, so Mornaura will do the following:
Mornaura can't see clearly what happens below, but catching a glimpse of the tall figure stalking through the mist and hearing the horrible sound of an arrow penetrating armor and flesh - yet again - is enough to know that something bad happened, even before the Stag Lord's taunt.
"Oh dear Spirits, why do you forsake us?", she moans, then shakes her head for a moment, desperately trying to ignore the horrible feelings clenching her intestines. She starts concentrating on the otherworldy powers flowing through her body, reaches out for the Stag Lord's mind, but can't make him out in the fog. Gritting her teeth, she hustles back into the cover of the gate tower, then dismisses her Obscuring Mist spell.
PS: So... The Stag Lord got IUS (couldn't have taken an AoO otherwise) and moves through a) Bingo's threatened area without provoking or b) a stone wall? I hate that guy. :P

GM Nel |

PS: So... The Stag Lord got IUS (couldn't have taken an AoO otherwise) and moves through a) Bingo's threatened area without provoking or b) a stone wall? I hate that guy. :P
He doesn't need IUS. Kaeso failed a trip attempt by more than 10 without using a weapon with the trip quality. ;)
the mist surrounding Mornaura dissipate. She sees Kaeso and the Stag Lord almost face to face, with the grim lord reaching behind him to get more arrows out of his quiver. Next to him, Norn is on the ground, an arrow piercing his neck. The owlbear is asleep, for now, close to the Stag Lord.

I hope you made a eunuch out of him, Kaeso!
And when it gets up to Dris and Purrcy's turn, GM Nel, could you describe what they see? Aka is Falgrim still tripped with 2 points damage? And has enough of the web been cleared away for Dris to see any foes?
Oh, and is the previously burned area safe to move thru?

![]() |

Sorry, Ionnia, in character Dris is not there. She didn't rejoin you guys because she couldn't see anything, and therefore couldn't target anything. Purrcy couldn't see either. He now has a guy pinned that he has a good chance of taking out (Falgrim Sneeg.) If Kaeso calls him over, Purrcy will probably let Sneeg up and come help with the Stag Lord. Nobody has replied to Dris' messages except for Bingo who has not described anything to her lately. Since she doesn't know what's happening, Dris will presume that 5 of you can take on the Stag Lord, and she will remain where she can see, and she can use Area of Effect Spells. Using character knowledge only, unfortunately. :/

Kaeso the Human Fighter |

Ummm... Wasn't Kaeso the one who suggested that Dris cast Message on Bingo so that he could report back as he scouted? Or was that out of character? ;)
I guess I did. Heh. Egg on my face. I don't think Kaeso has made the connection that he can just talk in his head and it gets back to you. He's not the sharpest tool in the shed. :)

GM Nel |

I hope you made a eunuch out of him, Kaeso!
And when it gets up to Dris and Purrcy's turn, GM Nel, could you describe what they see? Aka is Falgrim still tripped with 2 points damage? And has enough of the web been cleared away for Dris to see any foes?
Oh, and is the previously burned area safe to move thru?
I made a map update to make it clearer. You can BARELY see the man inside the web that doesn't have an A on him. Enough for something like magic missile. The smaller red dots are the "currently on fire" squares. Falgrim Sneeg is still on the ground, looks like he is sniveling and begging from mercy from a cat.

![]() |

Since Purrcy can't tie Sneeg up, he'll continue attacking until he's satisfied Sneeg won't get up. If it's possible for him to differentiate such things-- he'll stop attacking once Sneeg is unconscious. Does he get additional plusses to hit since Sneeg is prone?
Claw Attack 1: 1d20 + 9 - 1 ⇒ (16) + 9 - 1 = 24
Claw 1 Damage: 1d2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 1 + 2 = 4
Claw Attack 2: 1d20 + 9 - 1 ⇒ (2) + 9 - 1 = 10
Claw 2 Damage: 1d2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 2 = 5
Bite Attack: 1d20 + 9 - 1 ⇒ (17) + 9 - 1 = 25
Bite Damage: 1d4 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 2 = 5
If Sneeg seems to be unconscious, Purrcy will take a 5'step towards his friend Kaeso, to see what's happening over there.
~~~
Meanwhile Dris will move as far west into the web as she can safely. (south of the owlbear, surrounded by a triangle of flaming web). Then she'll fire 15' Burning Hands due West, hoping to catch the one bandit she sees but not Akiros.
Burning Hands: 3d4 ⇒ (3, 3, 4) = 10 (Reflex 16 for Half. Decreased Reflex if entangled in web?)
Anyone in Burning Web this round: 2d4 ⇒ (2, 3) = 5
GM Nel |
Purrcy mauls Falgrim to the ground, who indeed falls unconscious. (Attacking a prone creature grants melee attacks a +4 to hit, while giving the prone person a +4 AC against ranged attacks)
From inside the web, massive screams of pain and suffering emerge as Dris' burning hands burns more and more.
Ionnia, from where you are, all you see is Kaeso has a few scratches from taking an arrow earlier, and Norn who is laying on the ground with an arrow in the neck. Actually, the Stag Lord looks pretty hurt, if you want to throw some healing around.
misses ionnia, thanks to the cover from Kaeso.
The owlbear sleeps a bit more...
dovan 1d20 - 9 + 1 ⇒ (18) - 9 + 1 = 10 hey, he stabilizes.
Akiros takes a swipe at Auchs, then moves back, as to not get scorched!
Akiros brutally destroys Auchs.
Bingo will move close to the stag lord, and Aid Kaeso's next attack!
Thanks. :)
If we had time for elaborate tactics, I'd debilitate his willpower before trying this... Come on, Spirits, help me once more!
Now that the fog doesn't hinder her anymore, the witch can finally grasp the Stag Lord's mind and use her Slumber hex on him.
"You better sleep now so that we can end this quickly - otherwise I'll make sure you are wide awake while you die slowly..."
GM Nel |
Will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Kaeso the Human Fighter |
"Ionnia? Could use a heal!"
Kaeso will step 5ft forward to get a good shot at the Stag Lord, and hopefully to get inside the range of that bow. Then, he will attack the jerk:
1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 8 + 2 = 12
Damage1d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Then, if possible, he will attempt to quaff the potion, hoping that he's too close for the Stag Lord to shoot him with the bow.
That's two standard actions instead of a standard and a move, so that he can get the potion down. If this is not possible, then everything but the potion.
Erastil, help us! Wow. . . I'm praying a lot now. Should I be thinking of theology in combat?
Oh, for pete's sake. Curse these dice!
![]() |
@Kaeso: Since you helped train Purrcy, he'll listen to you. The 2 commands he knows are: Attack (Anything) and Flank.
@GM Nel: 1. Does Dris see any bandits still standing on the second floor? 2.Can Dris safely get to where Akiros is? Or safely Northward? She'd like to see what's happening with Purrcy and the rest of the gang. 3. If She can aee and get there without burning, and if she can see the Stag Lord she'll Magic Missile him.
GM Nel |
@Kaeso no potion, like you said it's a standard to drink. There is actually a feat to let you drink a potion in hand as a move action (Accelerated Drinker).
!Dris I made a map update for you, since the fire burns at the beginning of your turn. the best you could do is go right and north and jump over to the bridge. All the corpses that were in the web before seem to be charred and crunchy. The large man (Auchs) that was fighting Akiros seems to be quite eviscerated on top of burned. You could actually see the Stag Lord and the rest of the crew standing at the north edge of the platform you are at now.
![]() |
Dris will tentatively make her way through the web and ashes to try to see whats going on. She'll make her way Northeast and then North to the edge of the ledge. Upon seeing the gang struggling with the horned guy that must be the Stag Lord, she'll fire off a round of magic missiles from her wand.
2d4 + 2 ⇒ (1, 4) + 2 = 7
Purrcy looks up from Sneeg's twitching body to see that his pal Kaeso needs help, and run over to take a bite outta the mean guy hurting his friends.
Bite Attack: 1d20 + 9 - 1 ⇒ (3) + 9 - 1 = 11
Bite Damage: 1d4 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 1 + 2 = 6
Trip: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
GM Nel |
Kaeso tries to bash the man again, but misses horribly, even with Bingo's aid!
Drispeera's missiles hit the stag lord without issue, who looks around silently for his new attacker. Purrcy springs into action, jumping above the Owlbear's corpse before landing and taking a swipe at the Stag Lord. Purrcy can't seem to get through his armor though.
The owlbear dies to Ionnia!
The Stag lord steps back, and tries to take some shots at Bingo and Ionnia.
Rapid shot:
Ionnia attack 1: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
damage 1: 1d8 + 13 ⇒ (6) + 13 = 19
However, after one shot, something happens and the stag lord slumps down. He falls prone, snoring. a few quick seconds later, he wakes up, wondering what happened.
Akiros continues to rage and heads to the first floor.
Bingo takes advantage of the prone Stag Lord, and runs to the back. He readies to attack when he gets a flank. "Someone help me out with this guy!"
From her covered position in the tower, Mornaura glares down at the Stag Lord, forming her anger and sadness into an almost palpable stream of magical energy.
"Make him suffer, guys," she growls with a voice that's not quite her own.
Using her Evil Eye hex to reduce his AC by 2 for 8 rounds, DC 16 will save to reduce the duration to 1 round.
Kaeso the Human Fighter |
Kaeso steps up to make a flanking attack, wondering where Bingo's accent has gone. Strange thoughts in combat! Concentrate, Kaeso!
Warhammer: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 8 + 2 = 14
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Hopefully, again, I'm too close for an arrow attack of opportunity. I'm fighting like a short-armed boxer.
Maybe he's flat-footed? Pretty please? :)
GM Nel |
will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
The Stag Lord's will is still strong! And resists Mornaura's hexes.
Kaeso steps up, which opens up Bingo's attack!
Kaeso then swings his mace, which hits! [ooc](barely... +4 more for prone, -2 AC to stag lord from Mornaura!)
The Stag lord gets hit with the old 1-2 punch! He struggles from the floor, trying to get up and out of the flank.
Is that the top edge of a wall going north from where Dris is standing? Basically Dris would like to walk across if so, trying to regain line of sight on the Stag Lord.
Purrcy will step up 5', happily batting at the stag-man alongside his friends.
Claw Attack 1: 1d20 + 9 - 1 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 9 - 1 + 4 = 20
Claw 1 Damage: 1d2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 2 = 5
Bite Damage: 1d4 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 1 + 2 = 7
Good job boys! Good job Purrcy! Where's Norn? Let's finish this bad boy off, shall we?
Carefully moving forward to see where the Stag Lord went, Dris tries to regain line-of-sight.
The Stag Lord fell, but wasn unable to get back up. Beaky the Owlbear also lies dead, unable to be a menace any longer. Akiros gets close to the party to see the scene, and with almost teary eyes he tosses down his longsword and falls to his knees, both from exhaustion and joy.
In a few seconds both Falgrim and the Stag Lord stabilize. The web upstairs finishes to burn.
Horses are heard in the distance...
Also, welcome to level 4
The following isn't one big monlogue, it's bits of conversation interspersed with everyone else's bits of conversation.
Yay! We got the bastard! Is he really down?
Dris runs back a bit to tell Svetlana, It's safe to come out now. Be careful in case anyone's still hanging around.
Uses the last of her levitation or takes the stairs down.
Purrcy, you're such a good boy! You did such a good job!
Ionnia, if that one's still alive, could you stabilize him? (Points to Sneeg) I think Keston wants him. Maybe tie him up first. Humans and their love of torture. Sheesh. They know the only possible outcome is a hanging, but they just enjoy prolonging the suffering. What a sadistic race! No wonder granny is fascinated with them.
Bingo, Kaeso, good job! That SOB looked tough. Where's Norn? Lying down on the job again?
Purrcy goes over and licks Norn's face, wanting him to get up and play now.
Norn? What Norn? Nooooooooo! Dris is surprised by the strength of her reaction. I gave you a hard time about Erastil and stuff, but I didn't really mean it. I was just pulling your leg. Ok, well I meant it. Erastil's kinda of extra annoying even compared to most gods. But I'd say something nice about Him if he'd give you back your health. Norn? Comeon Norn! Get up. You promised to take me shopping. And you were nowhere near as annoying as paladins are supposed to be, you never got all self-righteous or holier-than-thou or talked down to people, ever. You're like totally cool. And Purrcy misses you too.
Whirls on Akiros. This is all YOUR fault. You coulda just let me walk outta here with my friend. But nooooo... you had to make it into a fight. What? So you would have back up, when you finally got enough spine to ditch these losers? Well now my friend is dead. I hope you enjoy the freedom you shoulda just taken for yourself.
Kaeso the Human Fighter |
Kaeso looks down at the Stag Lord in disgust, then trudges heavily out to Dovan's body and picks up his rapier. He walks back to the Stag Lord.
As he passes Ionnia, he pauses: "I know he's not your god--do you know how Erastilian funerals go? I'm sorry--never did much as a kid--mom would have known--oh Gods, Norn!"
Standing athwart the Stag Lord, rapier pointing at his eye, Kaeso asks "Any reason why I shouldn't finish him off?" Norn would have known what to do, but he's dead!
GM Nel |
As the party discusses the next course of action, Mornaura from her high vantage point can see the source of the hooves.
A small contingent of soldiers are galloping down towards the fort. They seem to be lead by a man on a horse, and a creature on a pony. A few seconds later, it is clear that it is Mikmek! And the human next to him must be Kresten.
Akiros turns to Dris "Lady, I am sorry for your friend, but welcome to combat. The Stag Lord was a drunk, but still a very strong fellow. He conquered these Stolen Lands himself, so you have to give him that. By the same token, if you guys disbanded Krestle's gang then there is noone else to take leadership of his remaining forces. My guess is any bandits out there still trapping or hunting will disperse once they hear. Now, if you excuse me, there is also the old man."
Akiros heads back into the structure, heading towards the room Dris and Svetlana were kept in.
![]() |
Dris pats Kaeso awkwardly on the back, unsure how to comfort humans. Maybe we should take him back to the temple, back to that priest, Jhod. He'll know how to do the kind of service Norn would want, wouldn't he? I think Norn'd be happy, being remembered at the temple he helped rediscover.
Ionnia, isn't there a spell (gentle repose) that could help Norn, er, travel safely there? And I'd like to stop and get the unicorn too, if that's ok with everyone. I have this faint hope that the pool at the temple might have extra healing powers for the unicorn... and Norn. Not realistic, I know. But I thought Erastil might... Just a faint hope... Dris turns away unable to continue.
When Kreston arrives she greets him. Welcome! Although I have to say, you'd have been even more welcome an hour ago. I think you wanted that one she points at Sneeg.
And this one she gestures to Akiros was right hand man to the Stag Lord, for which he probably deserves to dance on a rope, except... he did turn his coat and help us with this battle.
Finally registering what Kreston said, Wait, what? What old man? There's more of them? I suggest asking this one (Akiros) what he knows. And then lets finish cleaning this place up.
GM Nel |
Kresten dismounts after getting inside the gates. "My, very well done ladies and gents. Though I see that it was not a total victory." he says, looking over at Norn. "But I guess it never is. Mikmek! You know where Jhod is. He is a priest of Erastil, and he will know what we should do with Norn. Send him to Oleg's and meet us there!"
Mikmek holds back a tear, but then gives a kinda-military salute back at Kresten before heading out again into the woods.
From the room where Svetlana was being kept, Dris and Kresten go over there to find that Akiros is nowhere to be found. At the back of the room, some of the dirt has been moved, to reveal a trap door in the floor. Getting closer, Akiros finally emerges from the trap door, bringing in tow another man, bound at the wrists with rope. This man must be around a 90 year old human male.
"This, friends..." Akiros motions towards the old man "Is the Stag Lord's father. He is an old druid, kept here for some sadistic reason by the Stag Lord. He is as cruel as his father, although obviously not anywhere near as physically capable anymore. Although he is not directly responsible for any of the Stag Lord's crimes, he not only condoned his actions but actively encouraged them. He is a sick, lonely man at the end of his life."
Kresten nods and adds "Then we will take him as well, to be tried in Brevoy if he is deemed guilty of conspiracy. As for the rest of this lot, my instructions were only for Falgrim and the Stag Lord... The rest, you may do with or without as you see fit. I will make sure to inform Restov of your success!"
![]() |
GM Nel, this may have gotten lost in my wall of words. I was actually thinking to take Norn (and the unicorn) back to the healing pool at the temple. One-in-a-million that Erastil might help them with extra mojo from the pool. Or at least Norn could be buried there, which seems suitable.
magical longsword
magical composite longbow
magical helm
magical ring
a singe magical arrow
Dovan has:
mwk chain shirt
turquoise earrings (130gp)
Mornaura |
When the battle ended, Mornaura climbed down from the tower, her face a pale granite mask that shows fierce determination - only at a closer inspection her eyes betray her grief.
Upon passing by Drispeera who was talking to her companion, the witch mumbled something - something along the lines of "...good boy? Sure, starting an unnecessary fight that led to a dead companion qualifies as good..." - and then a second time when she passed Kaeso - this time it sounded like "I would torture him to death myself if only I knew Norn wouldn't like it...". But apart from that, she remained quiet. She cowered next to Norn, stroking his hair and ignoring what happens around her.
When Akiros presents the old druid, Mornaura looks up for the first time again - besides breathing and apathetic stroking and maybe some words mumbled to herself, it's actually the first visible motion for the whole time.
She focuses on the old man, but remains quiet until Kresten has finished. With a voice that sounds like it originates in a place far away from the late Stag Lord's fort, she says:
"I know how to... bring Norn back. Old man, is it within your power to Reincarnate our fallen companion? If yes, do it. Maybe we can spare you some grief in return. If not, I have another plan."
Turning to her companions, she continues:
"If the druid is of no help, we have to get Norn to Bokken's hut as soon as we can. I'm sure that he has the magical materials that I need to create a fetish which allows me to Reincarnate Norn. I will not let him down."
The old druid, who seems to be mute, shakes his head at Mornaura.
Akiros adds "I have never heard this man utter a word. It seems that this man and his son never liked each other. In fact, I heard the Stag Lord say that arrow right there he carries with him all the time... he was "saving it" for this old coot."
