No, I am not discouraging it at all, Cin. I love the rping and there will be instances where you can end an encounter with a well-placed story, so please rp as you see fit. Bones lets Cin pass, watching her carefully for any signs of treachery. "Look, you, I like you. You've got my head all mixed up whether or not there is some force of 10 men outside waiting for me. But I would kick myself later if I surrendered to you without going outside to see if your story is true and not some trickery. So I'm going to pass and when I meet the commander of the your back-up team and see his 10 men, I will surrender to him. No need to do it prematurely, eh? But please, go on ahead and save the lady. She is too pretty a thing to end up as an undead. Luck!" Bones looks to the rest of you to see if you will pass or fight.

The half-orc's eyes widen for a little bit before his mind starts processing the facts in his head. He then breathes a small sigh of relief and smiles, "Almost got me there, honey. I admit you're good but there's a little thing called time that you can't get around. See, the ambush on Amber took place about 8 hours ago and Korvosa is 2-3 days away, so it's physically impossible for the Seneschal to have sent two teams to save his daughter and for them to arrive so quickly. No, more likely, is that whelp Royal Guard there, who I was told ran from the ambush with 2 Tengu in pursuit, found you fine folk on the road and persuaded you to come save the girl. So, yeah, I'll take my chances on the back-up squad." Modifiers to Bluff skill:

The Tengu leaps at the prospect of coins, scoops up the 5 gp, and runs toward the exit, sending thanks your way for sparing him. Luc thanks Jun graciously for the healing, as the wound though open is much less serious and his face regains its natural color. You check the western section of the corridor and see it ends in a wall and 2 bedrolls on the floor. No secret doors are noticed. As you are about to proceed up the eastern passage, the door opens and out steps a massive (about 6'5") albino half-orc, his muscles taut as he grips in his hands an earthbreaker. He is garbed in winter clothes though you hear the clink of metal armor underneath. No surprise for either side. He smiles as he sees the five of you, "You must be the so-called heroes, come to save the Seneschal's daughter, along with the whelp there...Luc, is it? The one in love with Amber?" He grins, as Luc struggles to keep his cool. "I am Bones, you must have heard of me, I'm sure. Now, what's the deal here? Am I going to have to take you all on? I know nothing of your prowess and you may vanquish me, but be sure, I will take 1-2 of you, if not more with me. And all this, while Tessa and her brother, Viktor...." Bones smiles as he sees Luc's shocked face, "Yes, boy, that Viktor, your commander, haven't you figured it out that he was the one who betrayed you yet? Wow, you Royal Guard are slow! Anyway, he and his crazy sister and their undead bodyguard are aware of your incursion into the cave and that has accelerated their plans. They are about to sacrifice Amber within the next few minutes. So either you waste time fighting me and I will put a world of hurt on you or you let me leave peacefully with my coin since I just got paid, which is all I care about, and we save our dance for another time, like when the Seneschal's daughter is not about to become one of the undead? You decide! But be quick about it, I ain't got all day and it's cold!" Bones grips his weapon in case combat becomes necessary and he looks very serious. DC 10 Sense Motive check:
Bones believes everything he just said. Let me know how you wish to proceed. You can rp all you want but please no attack rolls or casting of spells, buffing, etc. As I said, there is no surprise so if you want to fight, let me know and I will roll initiative and we move from there. EDIT: Forgot to give you map so you can weigh tactical options in case you decide to attack!

Todor Orban wrote: What is he carrying in those bags? Treasure? Could a person be inside one of those? 1d20+9 - Perception That was funny. A person?! No, a person could not definitely fit in there. You think more like something small, like treasure (coins, gems, etc..) SaddlebagsYes, the princess is that way. But you may wish to wait, she's about to slaughter the rest of the hobgoblins. Almost on cue, you hear faint goblin screams coming from behind the door.
Male Half-Orc
Suddenly, the door to the north opens and out comes a massive half-orc, measuring 6’5” and weighing about 250 lbs, garbed in banded mail and wielding a ranseur. He wields a spiked gauntlet on his right fist and on his back is an immense hammer. He looks very menacing and has white albino-like skin. He curiously has two stuffed saddle bags wrapped around his neck. The hobgoblin, without opening himself to attack, yells something in Goblin to the half-orc, but the well-muscled warrior responds. Sorry, chap, you’re on your own with these young fellas. Seeing Todor, the half-orc speaks, So the princess has some young rescuers, eh? By all means, signaling to the door behind him with a nod of his head, she lies that way, if you can fight past that sick priestess and her guardian. My job here is done. He pats the saddlebags and smiles. Now, if you boys wish to dance, I will put a hurt on you. You may take me down but I will take 2-3 or maybe even 4 of you with me. Then, surely, you won’t have enough to rescue the little princess. Or…..I go down that way, signaling to the passageway to the west, and you go save your precious princess. You decide. Trust me, she ain't gonna last long. Let me know what you want to do. If you wish to fight, roll initiative. Casting spells etc will be considered an attack.

So, what happened here, according to the posts, is that Wren and Victor saw the creatures stirring to life in clear light and in view of everyone and said nothing until a whole minute passed and then we were surprised. Really? Must be the lawyer in me looking for reason and logic. MD, see OOC thread.
Male Half-Orc
And speaking of that, Sophiiiiiiiie. Brock purposely drags out the pronunciation of her name, as he walks toward her. You run on us again, not compelled by magic, leaving us in darkness, and you will have to deal with me! Brock towers over her, ranseur and shortspear in hand, making it clear he will have no quips about running her through with either weapon. If you're going to run, leave the light source! Intimidate check: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19...so you can see he means business.

Confused. Either you are misunderstanding the poison rules or I missed a failed saving throw somewhere. From curses to poisons to diseases, there are a number of afflictions that can affect a creature. While each of these afflictions has a different effect, they all function using the same basic system. All afflictions grant a saving throw when they are contracted. If successful, the creature does not suffer from the affliction and does not need to make any further rolls. If the saving throw is a failure, the creature falls victim to the affliction and must deal with its effects. Brock has made 2 successful Fort saves, as far as I can tell, so he does not suffer any effects and he does not have to cure, because he has not been poisoned. Like I said, did I miss a failed Fort save? Looking over the thread, Wren failed a Fort save, not Brock. Maybe you're confused about that.
Male Half-Orc
Brock curses himself that he concentrated his last attack on the flying queen and left the blind Victor to fend for himself against the spawn. "Screw this fighting like a coward, your spawn dies now!" He takes a 5' step and thrusts the shortspear into the spawn's ribs with all his might. He then takes a menacing look at the imp-like creature. Power attack:1d20 + 6 + 1 - 1 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 6 + 1 - 1 - 2 = 21

For MD:
2 things:
1. Since the quasit does not have reach, he draws an AoO from me coming to swipe at me with his claw, since he is visible. 2. He moved more than 5' and attacked so he then can't turn invisible, which is a standard action, all in the same round. Even at will spell-like abilities take a standard action to activate unless the creature description says otherwise. 3. So to sum up: To attack me in melee, he has to draw an AoO and then stay within my reach visible till my turn! 4. I recommend the little fella stay away from big ol' Brock or he's gong to get hurt! Fort save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Male Half-Orc
Brock sighs in frustration as he hears the women argue. This is why women should stay home and raise children. Focusing his thoughts on the battle, he charges to H14 and thrusts his polearm at the spawn. Charge: 1d20 + 6 + 1 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 6 + 1 - 1 + 2 = 18
Male Half-Orc
Sophy, Brock had darkvision and the way Victor shoots his bow, he may have a better chance hitting if he closes his eyes! To keep things moving, Round 4 action:
Male Half-Orc
Confused, my readied action should have gone off when the fire creature appeared before it attacked Victor. Brock does have 10' reach so he could have reached it from his present square. Do you roll that attack or do I? You could use the same attack rolls and say it came after Brock. Trying to keep them off of you, Vic!
Male Half-Orc
I was asking before about the AoO because I was posting from my Blackberry and could not see the map. Now that I see it, there is no AoO in the present case. Rules went against you for Victor and for you with the AoO. The creature moved into a square threatened by Brock but not through it, so no AoO. Brock yells, "Victor, move back, you're blocking my attack on it." Brock delays till after Victor goes.
Male Half-Orc
"No, my friend, Victor. I do not want to use you as bait. However, I don't have too much confidence in your archery skills for obvious reasons. I have not forgotten. No, the reason we had to flee before is because we got separated, obviously due to the creature's fear spell. If we attack it again, we need to do so as a unit. Remember, it dropped blood into the triangular pool and summoned spawn to its aid. In fact, I was thinking of screwing with that to get him to attack us, in case he is hiding somewhere. But to do it, we have to go in as a team. I may be stubborn but not stupid. If the girls are not ready now, then let's keep looking for Ameiko, though I appreciate your solidarity as a warrior."
Male Half-Orc
"I say, we skewer that little bugger." Brock grips the ranseur tight, as he speaks. "From the little I know of magics, those who use it tend to regain their abilities after resting. If we come back another day, he may gain all his magics and fear us again, destroy our weapons with a wave of his hand, etc.. I say we get him today, before he can rest. I know no fear, but I understand if the rest of you do." Brock looks at the odd party around him. "But if not that little bastard, then let's get to finding Ameiko. We're wasting time!" The frustration is obvious in Brock's voice, as he looks at the fresh wounds on his body and curses silently to himself.
Male Half-Orc
Brock looks at the shattered pieces of his weapon on the ground and snarls. He then flexes his muscles and looks at the flying creature: "Impressive....now know this, I'm going to go find a sharp sword and I'm coming back later today to lop your head off and no bit*h queen of yours is going to stop me! Follow me now and I will rip off your wings and strangle you to death with my bare hands!" With that, Brock walks out of the room, as Sophy closes the door behind him. Standard action to Demoralize and move action to walk out
