Well its very late in the game but I'll reluctantly send Nick my refund request for all 5 of my preorders. *sigh*
I will let you know if I receive any response.
I'm really kind of curious where they feel that not burning of fossil fuels "fails the tests of theology". Especially since "theology" predates most (all?) burning of fossil fuels. I fail to see where it is written -- "burn all you can so the following generations are screwed."
Its right there where the two pages got stuck together. Just look for the slightly thicker page. It might take awhile but you'll find it.
I don't understand the discussion really, its net neutrality or spoon fed access to what the providers wish, when they wish it. Maybe that's extreme but there would be little stopping them from major restrictions on anything they don't deem to be a worthy use of bandwidth.
Edit:
This is especially true if there is a conflict of interest. Please don't tell me that that you believe a cable, cable internet and phone provider wont try to lower the quality of service from things like skype, hulu and others just to 'encourage' their customers not to stray.
Can someone clue me in as to what the hell "XBox Modding" is? Evidently it's some kind of major felony, and I'm guessing it has something to do with technology, and that's as far as I can get.
*Modchip: installing a modchip inside the Xbox that bypasses the original BIOS, with a hacked BIOS to circumvent the security mechanisms.
*TSOP flashing: reflashing the onboard BIOS chip with a hacked BIOS to circumvent the security mechanisms. The Xbox BIOS is contained on a commodity EEPROM (the 'TSOP'), which can be made writable by the Xbox by bridging points on the motherboard.
Flashing is usually carried out by using a specially crafted gamesave (see 'Game save exploit', below) to flash the onboard TSOP, but the TSOP can also be de-soldered and re-written in a standard EEPROM programmer. This method only works on 1.0 to 1.5 Xboxes, as later versions replace the commodity TSOP with an LPC ROM contained within a proprietary chip.
Softmods: installing additional software files to the Xbox hard drive, which exploit programming errors in the Dashboard to gain control of the system, and overwrite the in-memory copy of the BIOS.
Soft modification is known to be safe for Xbox Live if the user enables multibooting with the Microsoft dashboard and an original game disc is used. (See also: Xbox softmods)
*Game save exploit: using select official game releases to load game saves that exploit buffer overflows in the save game handling. When these special game saves are loaded, they access an interface with scripts for installing the necessary softmod files. Disassembly of the Xbox is not required when installing most game save exploits.
*Hot swapping: using a computer to change the data on the hard drive. This requires having the Xbox unlock the hard drive when it is turned on, then swapping the powered hard drive into a running computer. By using a Linux-based Live CD, data on the hard drive can be read, altered, and deleted.
In most cases, an automated script will automatically install the softmod files directly to the Xbox hard drive. This technique has been used extensively to harbor cheating on many online games. Disassembly of the console is required to perform a hot swap.
More over-handed government bullying on behalf of corporations thanks to shitty copyright and copyright enforcement laws.
Spoiler:
Don't mind me, as I think the entire rule system around copy rights and patents (not to mention the fabricated idea of "corporate person hood") needs to be torn down to their base elements and rewritten.
Do you guys use a guide ? or all of you are genius and i'm stupid ? how the hell you get past Nightkins in the REPPCON basements ?
I assume your talking about the Repconn Test Site.
I kind of lucked out and never had to fight anyone.
Spoiler:
I talked to the ghoul and then to Davison saying I would help both. 2 stealthboys to get to the basement corpse, 1 there & 1 one back. The key for the jail is in the desk in the large open area with jailer/ incinerator nightkin. Talk to the ghoul & then go up to your new now allowed area, read the computer, talk to Davison and peacefully resolved for all.
The game is decent but it does seem to bring little new to the table.
I have one or two issues that put a hole in my gaming experience:
Spoiler:
1. Random STDs. One spouse Slept with four times unprotected to make a family. First 3 times nothing, 4th time STD.
2. Random Children. First Child girl (Caucasian baby, Caucasian child). Second Child Girl (Caucasian baby, black child). Both parents Caucasian.
WTF? If I didn't know it was lazy programming I would have sworn the wife was a cheating.
Unfortunately the Best Buy I ordered from does not take pre-orders on the collectors sets. I have to make it down there ASAP tomorrow as its 'first come, first served'.
Hmmm... maybe Ill take some personal time off work to get there sooner.
54. They are suspicious of townsfolk that exclaim "t-t-t-they aren't e-e-v-vil" and who are backing away slowly from the adventurers that just finished slaughtering a few people right after exclaiming "Their evil!".
[/rant]. Sorry, a bit fed up with intolerance today.
I understand the rant -- especially this week (for some reason). I really have no idea what happened with that story. There seems to be a whole lot that has been left out. I don't know who that potential governor is but I can't see this as doing anything but hurting his campaign. Did he not know what he was reading? The article implied that he reviewed it with people. And they didn't see anything wrong with it? Then -- did he then lie to the rabbi? Either he is now lying to the general people and he doesn't agree with gay rights or he was lying to the Jews to try to get their votes. Either way, he seems to be lying just for votes rather than letting people vote for someone who actually supports their values.
The whole exchange feels far more political than religious to me.
I got the impression that the politician flip flopped to the more popular position. It appears he abandoned the agreed upon position that he had told the religious supporter/partner he would support. In other words he shouldn't get the job because he has no spine and the people wouldn't be able to trust him to remain consistent.
The rabbi on the other hand just seems to be an a&#%~$~.
“I was in the middle of eating a kosher pastrami sandwich,” Rabbi Levin said.
Just a thought, but if an Orthodox Rabbi tells me he's eating a pastrami sandwich, I'm going to sort of take it as a given that it's kosher -- I mean, I'm not going to question him on it. But if he feels the need to specifically spell it out anyway, something seems a bit off, almost as if (a) sometimes he eats non-Kosher stuff and doesn't want us to find out, or (b) he's got some sort of chip on his shoulder about being Jewish. Dunno.
Mr. Paladino, during a meeting with a small Orthodox congregation that was arranged by Rabbi Levin, said Sunday that children should not be “brainwashed” into thinking that homosexuality was acceptable...
On Tuesday, after broad condemnation, Mr. Paladino apologized for his “poorly chosen words” and said he would “fight for all gay New Yorkers’ rights” if elected.
...
“I was in the middle of eating a kosher pastrami sandwich,” Rabbi Levin said. "While I was eating it, they come running and they say, ‘Paladino became gay!’ I said, ‘What?’ And then they showed me the statement. I almost choked on the kosher salami.”
Maybe post-Enlightenment (so we're not stuck with all the things they were still blind to like women being property), modernist, humanistic, pluralistic values? It's clunky as hell, though.
It also has the problem that, where I live, "humanism" is a synonym for "satanism" and "progressive."

...Sheikh Maulana Abu Sayeed, president of the Islamic Sharia Council in Britain, said that men who rape their wives should not be prosecuted because ‘sex is part of marriage’. And he claimed that many married women who alleged rape were lying.
...
He said it was ‘not Islamic’ to classify non-consensual marital sex as rape and prosecute offenders, adding that ‘to make it exactly as the Western culture demands is as if we are compromising Islamic religion with secular non-Islamic values’...
1) I like my systems to all use the same mechanics (vancian or spellpoint or other).
2)I'm trying to figure out what psionics IS.
As to point of what psionics actually is, this is what I found so far:
1) Horrible naming conventions. I assume this is because most of the authors of psionic systems do not seem to have a good understanding of its difference from standard magic. (WotC has always made some sub-par naming choices but for psionics sub-par was the top of the heap for naming choices).
2) Spellpoints (for many people this is enough but it really seems to be a poor answer to me).
3) Psionics is often deeply entwined with many related paranormal or science fiction phenomena.
4) It appears to be mind/will magic that
a) has less 'creation' effects (Often more short range powers that are less flashy and doesn't create many things that act independently of the caster or last longer then the caster focuses)
b) less ritualized than standard magic
(Verbal and Somatic components are still there but they are usually shorter triggers instead of complex rituals)
c) less fantastical (only in comparison to full blown high fantasy)*
*Illusion of a dragon is in the mind... not in the actual air. Fire comes out of the casters hands... not a portal.
Disclaimer: this is just a descriptor change, for the most part, but it does seem to be a fairly standard theme change.
Psionics are primarily distinguished, in most popular gaming systems, by one or more of the following:
* Magical or super/meta human-like abilities including:
o Telepathy, Mental Attacks/Defenses, and Projected Illusions
o Extrasensory Perception such as ESP, Clairvoyance/audience, Pre/Recognition, et al.
o Telekinesis - as in simply projecting pure force via the mind
o Other (non-force) "Energy"-based abilities (e.g. Pyrokinesis, Electrokinesis, Cryokinesis, etc.)
o Teleportation, Astral Projection, Dimensional Walking, Etherialization, etc.
o Similarly, Time Travel and/or the manipulation of the flow of time
o Psycho-Metabolic abilities (literally "mind over matter") such as healing, environmental resistance, shape shifting, levitation, etc.
* Exclusive or near-exclusive association with highly intelligent, disciplined, and/or willful beings
* Intense mental discipline required for training and use
* Lack of arcane rituals, gestures, components, and other typical features of magic
* Transmutation
* Extreme empathy (not only are they able to pick up on an emotion, if the emotion is strong enough, the psionic himself is able to feel that emotion. A frequent example is pain.)
Slave-like behavior seems to work in lions.. Or humans, for that matter.
All slaves do is work, so saying they dont work well is kinda funny :D
Plus they brought us the Pyramids so obviously slavery is the way to go.
I thought that was one theory (an older less supported theory now). I had heard that they were actually make work projects so that the pharaoh could pay farmers in the off season because he didn't trust them not to sell/eat all their rations from the fields.
I was going to say something but you beat me to it. Both of those can be effective individual survival strategies but horrible species survival strategies.
Rather, in the context of one's own species (which is generally how we consider morality, although it doesn't need to be, I suppose), they're poor individual strategies. In the context of applying them against competing species, they can work as a group strategy.
Correct that is what I meant to say but I forgot to state it fully. Thank you for the appropriate clarification.
(1) Deceit is a highly effective form of survival in the natural world; (2) so is parasitism.
1. When applied to would-be predators (e.g., the coral snake), deceit can work. Among one's own species, it can be "highly effective" in the short term, but in the long run is always yields a lower-sum outcome.
2. Parasitism on other species is effective. Parasitism on one's own is not.
I was going to say something but you beat me to it. Both of those can be effective individual survival strategies but horrible species survival strategies.
I dont see how the wizard destroyed anyone's charecter. He used a spell and did things in charecter. Thats just roleplaying. The game isnt care bears the role playing game.
The paladin fell how? You think the paladin because while mind controlled got raped lost its class? Thats retarded, there a TON of interesting roleplay that can come from this.
I think that the dm should tell the players at the start of a campaign or when a person makes a new charecter what the premise is and let them do as they want. I usually dm and approved a paladin and a CE rouge of cyric after telling both players this was the case. I knew one would die and they were warned. Not my problem.
Yeah... your verbal gymnastics aren't convincing.
The issue is the GM allowing his buddy's fun to be more important then the game and the group's fun.
If you could patch it together, than good on you, but no one should be required to do so. That is an unreasonable request.
...(i.e. you're only allowed to have a critical thought about anything if it fits the CNN-approved opinion list), I may as well start bowing to the east five times a day just to get my practice in.
If you start blubbering and crying like Glenn Beck, I'm killing off Cadogan as soon as the game re-starts. Just sayin'. ;P
Screw Beck. I'm just saying that a) there's enough out there to not just dismiss the possibility out of hand, and b) considering a lot of the crap that flew around about Bush (like there wasn't enough TRUE stuff to cap on Bush over), Obama shouldn't be a protected species. Especially considering he's screwed the pooch in spectacular fashion.
Since when is he a protected species? And how old is he now, anyways? Just because you don't like when he converted or the guy he converted under doesn't mean he isn't christian.
Seriously, how many times has anyone who criticized him been called "racist"? Like, almost every time. If he makes a gaffe (57 states?) he was "tired", not an idiot. The network news doesn't go after him for bald faced lies even when there are blatantly contradictory statements made by him on record and on video.
Dude gets a major pass on a lot of stuff.
I would say the difference between them is that Bush is an idiot.
Has Obama made mistakes? Yes. Has he been able to fullfill all his promises? No. Has that been entirely his fault because he has absolute authority? No.
Has he started a war under false and deceitful reasons? No.
Has he made gaffs in nearly everyone of his speeches? No.
If you elect another Bush (aka Palin) then don't expect the world to think highly of the USA ever again.
People worldwide respect Obama for the reason that a lot of Americans seem to detest him. He compromises.
He makes the deals he can and moves the situations forward instead of crossing his arms and growling.
I honestly cant understand most of the 'Obama hate' I have seen online. Is all of it racist? No. Is much of it well explained or well reasoned? No.
You can say he gets a major pass when he gets to anywhere near the amount of screw ups and bad decisions (for America) that Bush did without tons of criticism.
Well, considering that anyone who may think the current resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. could possibly be a Muslim, you know, because his father and step father were both Muslims, his mother was non-religious (actually an outspoken Atheist), he didn't "convert" to Christianity (in a church run by a Jew hating Farrakhan sycophant) until he was in his 20s, was identified as "Muslim" on his Indonesian school records, and recently went to church (very publicly) for the first time since the whole Wright thing blew up in his face due to the rumors of his Muslim background is OBVIOUSLY a complete idiot (i.e. you're only allowed to have a critical thought about anything if it fits the CNN-approved opinion list), I may as well start bowing to the east five times a day just to get my practice in.
I could possibly be a Catholic. I was raised Catholic, my father was Catholic, my mother is Lutheran, and my dog tags say "Catholic". Except I'm atheist now. So, wait, by your logic, I'm still a Catholic? Who are you to judge what religion I or anyone else is? If he says he isn't a Muslim, then he isn't.
And they don't bow exclusively to the east, they bow to Mecca. Directions may shift depending on where you are in relation to the holy grounds. And Muslims CAN'T take over our country, it's already owned by the Jews.
The best part of that post? You'll get away with the Jew crack.
My first thought was "WTF? Where did that come from?"
In any case, I don't think it did. I (personally) feel that they used seven as a form of pneumonic (sp? -- is that the right word here?) to help them remember.
The theologies of "the Fall" don't really make much sense to me anymore. We didn't fall (or rise) we became. To me, the historical/intertextual context of Genesis & the rest of the Bible is being explained away by religious conservatives in unsatisfactory, self serving, even sometimes racist-like ways. Why are there seven days in creation when an omnipotent God would hardly need six days & a day of rest in the heavenly recliner? Pay no attention to the seven planetary gods/ goddesses that most people of that time and area believed in, even though their names, or Nordic equivalents, are still used for the days of the week, Moon's day...Saturn's Day...Woden's day. What were the neighbors of the Jewish tribes doing with serpents, and why did it talk to Eve and not Adam, who was apparently just as clueless & gullible? What did the ancients really know of sex, other than it has consequences? They definitely didn't know of the human ovum, which wasn't discovered until the 1840s.
Edit: If the christian god* is supposed to be all powerful why did it take him more then one day to create everything and why did he need a rest?
*Is it Yahweh, Jehovah or some other name for the christian god?
(I don't like to refer to him/it as 'God'.)
