Custom Avatars?

Is it possible to allow users to upload their own custom avatars?

It would be interesting to see but I somehow doubt that it would be allowed, at least in the near term.

I do not think that is planned. They have a wish to keep the forms kinda simple I think

Beyond keeping the forums simple, not having custom avatars means not having to moderate flashy/big/animated/NSFW avatars.

this wouldn't be a problem if they restricted uploads to a specific file format. as for the size, they could auto-crop the image to a specific maximum size.

Don't custom avatars also occasionally raise copyright infringement issues? I'm not sure Paizo want to have to handle complaints about random messageboard posters who are illegally using the work of artist xxx or yyy.

Lots of other boards seem to manage.

I think one of the main reasons we don't get custom avatars is that it would involve work.

Before you accuse me of accusing Paizo of being deadbeats: They're definetly not. But it seems as if they had their work cut out for them, with lots and lots of things demanding their attention - not just RPG books, but website issues, too.

And let's be honest here: Custom avatars aren't really something we desperately need right now. That's why they're way down on the list (if they're on the list at all).

Me, I'm fine with the current situation - though it wouldn't hurt for them to restrict this here nice avatar to me, since I do embody it ;-)

I'm sure it's primarily to avoid legal issues with copyrighted material and having to police inappropriate images.
