Zevon stands and dusts himself off. He glances at the loaded crossbow in his hand and then at his surroundings, bewildered.
He turns to the individuals in the water.
Oh hello, and well meet. It seems I am rather lost. I am Zevon Vierding. I am not exactly sure how I came to be here, I am afraid. From the raft I assume you are ferrymen. I may be in need of your assistance.
His head jerks in the direction of the howling.
Poor creature. Perhaps I can assist. I am a bit of a healer you see.
Zevon peers into the woods to determine the source of the howling.

Pitiful creature. I wonder how different they are from us. Hold the raft a moment ferrymen. Let me see what I can do for the beast. It is clearly suffering.
Zevon Vierding |
Excuse me, but that is no way to speak to a potential fare, sir. However, I fear I know little of the anatomy of the beast. I would not know even how to lend aid. Now, perhaps it would be best to be on our way before it notice our presence. The injured brute could be dangerous. As I said though, I fear I do not know where I am, nor how I came to be here. To where is this ferry bound?
Igar The Terrible |
As the raft gently moves away from the shore in the slight northward flow, no more arrows exit the canopy. You can faintly hear the troll howling.
Where you have been.
Zevon, of course does not recall this.
Zevon Vierding |
My thank's good dwarf. I am honestly surprised to see one of your kind manning a raft. Though I am taken aback at your man's attitude. So pray-tell, to where is this ferry bound? I fear some fugue state befell me and I have no recollection of my arrival to that wooded shore. I can only assume that some of my more rigorous training resulted in some sort of mishap, as occurs from time to time.
Grokar |
"Lets go" Grokar says jumping on the raft using his immense strength to poll the raft back the way they came. "could any you see them? Grokar asks with just a hint of fear in his eyes.not much scares the massive half orc, but invisible enemies sure do.
Bulgard Merkenkin |
Bulgard pats Zevon on the back and does his best to stammer through the last few months of their friendship.
He thinks back to the original mission.
Ok, wh-where to now? We saw the tracks ending at the old raft that we repaired, saw nothing of note in the island, and found ourselves waylain by invisible foes who can’t deal enough damage to really wound us... i think We may have taken a wrong turn. Let’s float this lake and look for some clues as to our next path...
Bulgard peers out at the water and the shoreline, looking for some tracks to follow.

Zevon Vierding |
Zevon slumps on the raft, crestfallen. He sits in silence, trying to will the memories the ferryman relayed to him to surface from the suddenly murky depths of his mind.
Igar The Terrible |
No spell was cast. You cannot come up with what magic these fey used on Zevon.
As the flow moves you north on the river, it is obvious you are going deeper into fey territory. The canopy completely obscures the sky, leaving only a gloomy half-light. No plant life grows on the forest floor, except for small patches of colorful mushrooms and toadstools. Brightly colored creatures dart about in the crystal clear water. All about the canopy and in the mushrooms and toadstools, brightly colored creatures of various sized and shapes flutter about.
After an hour Rhen begins to hear the rushing water. His hearing is back to normal.
The current picks up to an uncomfortable pace, but Grokar manages to pole the raft away from protruding boulders. The current eventually slows to about 10 ft every 6 seconds. As the raft rounds a bend, you see a large troll standing in the middle of the shallow river. It is looking at you and raises its arms in the air in a menacing fashion. A small winged, elf-like creature flies from the canopy and hovers in front of you. It says "Quick! Quick! Follow me! The emissary knows you are here. He summons you now. Follow me! Follow me! If you go further you will die. This way." It darts off to the east leaving a trail of bright, multicolored dust that stains the trees as it passes.
