Male Feraweni Wizard 9

Agreed. Let’s pretend that’s what happened.

Keeping stride with the halfblood, Thaegrin sees the grieving Sorcha ahead, and gently clears his throat as he approaches, as to not startle them. He nods an acknowledgement to the guards. He bows deeply and takes a somber tone. “My Lady Sorcha, the family was met with more ill fortune while you mourned for your father.” He pauses, delicately choosing his words, “Your brother Drostan was also poisoned, but due to his youth and active pursuit of combat prowess, he was able to resist it longer. He lived long enough to discover the culprit and pass a sentence, but in the end his body succumbed to the toxin.”
Bluff 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27
He holds his tongue on the news of her Ladyship, knowing her grief might be too terrible to bear all at once. The court adviser suddenly felt invisible strings, connecting himself to those around him: the nursemaid, the spymaster, and the maimed Lady. It seemed to him that he could affect their emotional state, if only slightly. He tests this perceived connection to the three by attempting to bolster their hearts against fear and despair. Peculiar. I wonder if this connection is limited by range…
Allies within 30 ft of Thaegrin gets a +4 bonus to saves against mind-affecting effects, and fear effects are reduced by one step.

“Come,” he adds quietly, “Say goodbye to your brother.”
As he gestures to proceed down the hall, he watches her face carefully. Sense Motive 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29

Facion stands quietly next to the old Feraweni. His gray gaze follows the young Lady.

Aid to Bluff 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (14) + 17 = 31

Shadow Lodge

Little Sorcha's face falls, not from grief it seems, but from a terrible apathy made all the worse by her few years.

"I will attend him at the funeral. For now, it would seem that I am head of this house, unless granny will assume control. I do not think this likely though since you are here, and not with her."

"Is this so Thaegrin?"

Male Feraweni Wizard 9

“It is,” he lowers a bow, “Your brother Eonan says he and I are to advise your rulership of Lehrehn and the family. Presently, he makes for Veir in all haste, likely to forestall our commitment to either side of this civil war. He named me Chief Agent on behalf of House Rudianos, and I will oversee affairs that do not require your utmost attention. I have already sent for a replacement apothecary, and the guilty one is in the dungeon serving his sentence of three days of torture before hanging from the city walls, where the birds will feast on the wretch’s remains. A quick execution seemed too merciful.”

The wizard turns the conversation in another direction. “I think it would be wise to hold a council to discern what exactly is at our disposal for these troubling times -how many horses and spears we command, what allies, far and near, can be counted on should enemies march on your city. At your word, of course.”

The chief agent waits for an answer, secretly hoping to be free to study as he pleases for the rest of the day.

Shadow Lodge

Sorcha nods thoughtfully then speaks.

"I appreciate your eagerness wizard. I have much to think on. Shall we meet tomorrow? We will break fast together."

She turns to depart, then turns back. "Oh, bring the Spymaster and the Thelkonlanders. And be sure to pack for a long journey, I think."

She makes her way down the hall hand in hand with her nursemaid.

Male Half-Feraweni Rogue HP: 69/69 AC: 27

Watching the young lady move off Anga turns and gives a perfunctory nod to the Wizard. He quickly makes his way to the dungeons he selects two guardsmen he knows to be loyal to the power of House Rudianos, as well as being close-tongued.

If I need it: Knowledge (Local) 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18

He tells them of Eonan's orders and makes all haste to apprehend the former Lady Rudianos.

Shadow Lodge

Flanked by the two guards, Anga marches into the Lady's room to find acrid smoke clings to the first few feet of the room's interior.

Male Half-Feraweni Rogue HP: 69/69 AC: 27

Of course. Facion sighs inwardly as he peers into the fetid soup. "Wait here." He commands the two men as he takes a tentative step to the door.

Perception 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (11) + 13 = 24

Knowledge (Arcana) 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Craft (Alchemy) 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17

Not sure what he's dealing with, if this is a normal state of affairs for Lady Rudianos or not. So tried to cover my bases for what might be happening.

On the chance it's something Anga might think is dangerous:
Stealth 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (17) + 25 = 42

And of course to round things out:
Profession (Spy) 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26

Also, by the "...first few feet of the room..." do you mean the first few feet in from the doorway? Or the first few feet up from the floor? Or something else?

Shadow Lodge

Smoke fills the top half of the room. This is definitely not the norm. Remember, Lady Tearlag is criminally insane and violent. This is mundane smoke, like someone closed the flu on a fireplace with the fire still roaring.

The man of shadows slips into the room unseen.

You are now holding your breath.

Male Half-Feraweni Rogue HP: 69/69 AC: 27

Pressing into the room Facion takes care to keep his eyes open against the bite of the smoke.

Perception (To locate Lady Rudianos/source of the fire) 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (18) + 13 = 31

Incidentally, how long can he hold his breath?

Shadow Lodge

You can hold your breath for as many rounds as double your constitution SCORE, unless you are performing some strenuous activity, in which case you can hold your breath for a number of rounds equal to your constitution SCORE.

Anga is able to determine the cause of the smoke: The flu in the fir place across the room as been closed.

DC 5 Disable Device to open it. The smoke will clear slowly. You could open windows.

Anga also spots a pair of women's shoes peeping from behind a curtain near the fireplace.

Male Feraweni Wizard 9

Thaegrin bows as the Lady leaves. He nods to the halfblood as he departs and turns in the hallway, walking toward his study.

Once inside, he looks carefully about before locking the door behind him. At times I wonder why I bother ...
Perception 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
He eagerly retrieves his crafting supplies and frumpy grey hat, and begins integrating arcane power into the wrinkled cloth for the next four hours.
Spellcraft 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (20) + 17 = 37, "rushed" DC 17.

edit: Holy sh*t. Last time I rolled 10 over the DC and progressed half again more. DSP, would you allow double progress for 20 over the DC?

Shadow Lodge

Yes :)

Male Half-Feraweni Rogue HP: 69/69 AC: 27

Moving with purpose Anga keeps an eye on the shoes under the curtains while fiddling with the flu.

Disable Device 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19

Moving around the room he unshutters a window or two, the ones furthest from the shoes.

Stealth (To stay hidden) 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (7) + 25 = 32

Shadow Lodge

Anga is sure he remains unseen as he opens the flu and curtains.

The smoke dissipates some, but it will take some time: or a cross breeze.

:) The shoes do not move.

Male Half-Feraweni Rogue HP: 69/69 AC: 27

As the smoke starts to clear the spy glances about the room quickly double checking for anything he may have missed. With long lithe steps he moves back to the door and signals the two men to come in.

Gesturing to the shoes under the curtains he indicates that the two should apprehend the lady.

The guards move into the room and, ducking low beneath the smoke, move to arrest the figure in the shoes.

Once the pass Anga, the doors snap shut.At the same time, the guards lay hands on an empty curtain: the shoes vanishing in small puffs of smoky air.

Still No:

1d20 + 16 ⇒ (12) + 16 = 28 1d4 + 3d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + (4, 3, 3) + 4 = 16

A heartbeat later, blood gushes from one of the soldier's necks alongside a black, tar-like substance. The man pales, but keeps his feet.

Male Feraweni Wizard 9

(At the end of the 4 hours of crafting, it should be close to sundown? Thaegrin would get the boats with the caskets and the river and the fiery arrow doing when he was done.)

Male Half-Feraweni Rogue HP: 69/69 AC: 27

The devil take that woman, she never can be easy. Facion thinks as he steps back into the thinning smoke. Unshouldering his bow he nocks an arrow and waits, staring into the room.

Perception 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (13) + 13 = 26

Ready an attack against the assailant.

It's my understanding that Anga is across the room from where the guards got attacked. But not really sure.

Shadow Lodge

Anga sees the other guard crouch behind his shield; a look of manic fear writ plain on his young face.

Two knives wing out of the smoky shadows straight for the spy master!

1d20 + 16 ⇒ (16) + 16 = 32 for 1d4 + 3d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + (7, 4, 8) + 4 = 27

Confirm 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (19) + 16 = 35 for 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

One knife sinks into Anga's hip. The wound is deep. The other slides in to the hilt, piercing a lung.

Anga's Fort Saves 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

2d4 ⇒ (3, 1) = 4 Take 58 damage and 4 dex damage. :( Anga can tell the direction the knives came from. A DC 12 perception will pinpoint the square now.

The downed guard continues to writhe and twitch uncontrollably.

Thaegrin:

Wracking pain shoots down your antiquated spine. A sensation wholly troubling. Make a knowledge local and or history check.

Male Half-Feraweni Rogue HP: 69/69 AC: 27

Stealth 1d20 + 25 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 25 - 2 = 40

Peering into the fog, Facion searches to pinpoint his opponents location.

Perception 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (5) + 13 = 18

Confident he now knows where the attacks originated, the man of many voices masks the pain in his own and calls and throws his voice out into the room. "There! Right before you the coward lies! Fear not, her petty womans tricks are no match for strong soldiers!"

Perform (Act) 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

Resuming his silence Anga quietly draws and uncorks a potion, swallowing down the bitter medicine.

Use CLW 1d8 ⇒ 6

I think this is all kosher. Let me know if I messed something up.

Downgrading Standard action to a minor action. 2 minors to uncork and drink potion. 1 move to unequip/store the cloak of resistance?

Shadow Lodge

Almost got it. You can drop a standard action for a second move action, but not for two. To fix this, you can simply unclasp your cloak and let it fall (Free action).

Male Half-Feraweni Rogue HP: 69/69 AC: 27

Ok, he drops the cloak at his feet.

Kn: Arcana 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (8) + 15 = 23

Anga's arrow thuds and an angry howl breaks the air.

Unseeing, but trusting Anga's word, the soldier surges forawd behind his shield, spear raised high.

Bull Rush 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (2) + 14 = 16 1d100 ⇒ 68

The soldier is rebuffed, but he lashes out with his spear.

1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11 for 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

The shaft is slammed aside, and there, standing in the smoky shadows, Anga can see Lady Tearlag.

Half her hair has been recently lost to flames. Her teeth are filed to haphazard points. But most unsettling is the dim red glow deep behind her pupils.

She shrieks, an inhuman sound that carries most unnaturally, and strikes out at the brave guard.

1d20 + 16 ⇒ (8) + 16 = 24 for 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 1d4 ⇒ 2

Soldiers's fort 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24

Tholan scratches at his beard, pondering his most recent interrogation session. I wasn't even asking about his... personal life. I didn't... really didn't need to know that. He shakes his head ruefully and chuckles quietly to himself. He stretches and reaches to unclasp his belt, when a faint noise catches his attention.

He pauses, straining his ears to hear, then the shriek echoes through the halls. He immediately begins to move to the door, quickly patting his blade and armor to ensure everything is in it's place, then calls to his brother, "Brother, did you hear that? I feel battle in my bones, let us seek it out."

He moves into the hall, and begins to run down the hall in the direction of the shriek he heard.

Perception 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27

Nothing to see here:

1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30

The guardsman twitches as some of the turgid liquid enters a new wound in his forearm.

He responds in kind, lashing out with his shield and spear.

1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30 for 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26 for 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

Both attacks find their target and the woman shrieks again.

Male Half-Feraweni Rogue HP: 69/69 AC: 27

Watching the melee, Facion swallows down the second vial. Uncorking and drinking a third.

CLW 1d8 ⇒ 2

Three minor actions?

Shadow Lodge

No such thing as a minor action. standard to drink potion, move to pull one out.

Male Half-Feraweni Rogue HP: 69/69 AC: 27

Bugger the psfrd! Why must it make it so difficult to figure out the rules?

Okay, since minor actions aren't a thing, and Anga's health isn't so low, is it alright if I take a mulligan on this last round. Do something else besides drinking and uncorking another potion?

Thaegrin twitches at the sensation and produces a certain scroll, quickly unrolling it. I should have known to prepare this today! After reciting his own arcane script, the Feraweni winks out of his study in a cough of blue smoke.

The wizard reappears in the hallway outside the criminally insane woman’s room. Seeing the door closed, he listens carefully, touching the wall to add to his senses.

MAP updated.

Male Half-Feraweni Rogue HP: 69/69 AC: 27

Okay take two.

Watching the melee Anga feels about for a very particular arrow. Finding it, he draws back the bow string and prepares to release.

Move action to reload the bow? I think that's all he can do at the moment.

Shadow Lodge

Drawing an arrow and firing it is a standard action. This is because you are considered to have already drawn the weapon (the bow), so all you're doing is fitting the missile to the string and letting go.

Male Half-Feraweni Rogue HP: 69/69 AC: 27

Blarg, having so much trouble this battle. Heh. Okay, Anga is done for this round, just leave it as RP what he did with the arrow.

Shadow Lodge

Lady Tearlag leaps away from the guard, but darts back in before he can react.

The guard's muscles spasm as yet more poison enters his blood.

With bowstring taut, he examines the alchemical-arrow. Ensuring all is in it's place.

Ready an attack with a tangleshot arrow.

Male Feraweni Wizard 9

Ever cautious at the sounds of battle, Thaegrin utters an incantation, and his visage warbles like one looking through uneven glass, with a layer of blue over him that shimmers at certain angles. Cast Mage Armor. AC is now 19 (woo mage-tank!). He calls beyond the door before quietly moving to obscure his position, hoping that playing the ignorant will reveal more information on the halfblood and Lady Tearlag. “Halt, I say! What is going on in there?!”

Both blades sink into the guard's chest. He gurgles once. His head lolls. He slides to the ground: unmoving.

The shadowy mass dissapates into the fllor boards. Lady Tearlag fades from sight.

1d20 + 23 ⇒ (13) + 23 = 36

Anga's shot goes off before she can disappear fully.

Your turn all. The brothers are still hoofing it.

Male Feraweni Wizard 9

Of course. Thaegrin sighs, weary of games. We must keep this madwoman contained...

A scroll springs from beneath his sleeve, and he quickly unrolls and utters the magic words of the simple spell. The old wizard disappears once again. Cast Vanish, invisible for 5 rounds.
He quietly steps back from the door, retrieving another scroll from his belt.

Also, brothers, do either of you have the Haste spell?
