Okay guys and gal, go ahead and post up your finished builds when ready and any questions you might have.
The Wildland Pacification Wars was the best title I could think of for the campaign but it works I guess.
I might even have a little pre-game rp here so your characters can get to know each other before the game begins. (but we'll see)
Matei Manx |
Not fully done yet, should be by the end of the day.
Don't be scared by the childish picture, it will change before long as the bit of Orcish Blood in his veins (1/8th Orcish) makes sure he matures quickly and he should be all grown up by the time he's 16 (2 levels).
Marn here by the way.
EDIT: As for background, Matei's story actually is his grandfather's story. His grandfather was a war hero in the Goblinblood wars and anyone who lives in or near Isger or Hellknights who belongs to either the Order of the Godhandclaw (based in Isger) or Nail (formerly based in Isger, still have a citadel there) would probably have heard his story (either truth or the more romanticised version).
Still working on details for it, but the man is named (he still lives) Ragar Gornfield and is a Half-Orc of Kellid descent and a former slave who saved an entire village on his own while the local men were away fighting goblins elsewhere. Originally a hero of the people, the government eventually had to grant him hero status though they did so grudgingly.
He is Matei's grandfather on mother's side.
Lucanus |
Greetings and Salutations,
Don't have too much of a back story other then Lucanus being an orphan as his parents, both Hellknights, were killed in the line of duty at a young age. He has been am Aspiring Hellknight since when he became a ward of the Order of the Scourge. The only thing that he has left from his parents is his mothers Bastard Sword, his most prized possession. (Hopefully able to make it masterwork at some point so I can keep it for the life of the character)
Even at sixteen, his height is over 6 feet and will be a giant of a man by the time he has finished growing.
Kayla Adrianas |
I can't hear "greeting and salutations" without thinking of "Heathers". :)
For the one piece of equipment she can start with, I guess I'll take a dagger. Doesn't make much sense for her to really have any other weapon since maids don't go about armed and she can hide a dagger easily enough.
Haven't finished making up my mind about her spell list. Should I take a cure spell or not?
Still need some other tweaking done and maybe some more background, but not bad so far. :)
GM Faol Mhor |
Kayla you will probably be able to find a dagger no problem or get one before long so you might want a spell component pouch.
You won't start with nothing, you'll each start with some basic gear that i'll post up.
Matei Manx |
I do have a question: I'll be getting a Chakram as a start, but could I get a single gauntlet as well so I can wield it in melee without cutting myself (a ridiculous rule anyway since in reality chakrams were used in melee without problems, used similar to brass knuckles since the inside isn't sharp)? Being a blacksmith it stands to reason I would have made it myself.
Atlas Healshorn |
Trying to update my profile, but every time I get done, it says I've "backtracked" too far and I lose my work. This time, I'm going to copy and paste :P
Thankfully I'm just copying from a character sheet so it's not like I have to figure stuff out again.
EDIT: Alright I got all the crunch up on my profile. Will post the fluff later today :)

Just as an aside, if you guys ever have a spot open up or you guys start a pbp I would love to get in on one.
I'm only currently playing in one and it's steady but a little slow. Its a skull and shackles game as well that started almost 3 month or even more before you guys started to play in mine. You guys have just passed where we are in the AP hehe.
Matei, you can have a gauntlet if you want, it's only 2 gp.
Lucanus |
Bought Scalemail, a heavy steel shield, and subtracted the gold for the Bastard Sword. I didn't take any adventuring gear as I think that would be provided to us. And if it isn't, I have 70 gold left to buy it.
Equipment added to Crunch, guess I will be the "tank" with my 20 AC
Matei Manx |
In that case Matei will probably wear either Studded Leather or a Chainshirt, the last being more likely considering his trade.
It also means I can have gauntlets for both hands and a bunch of chakrams instead of just one.
GM Faol Mhor |
Maybe Kayla :) but I'll try to make this game a little more free form than skull and shackles, so not as much "work". That game I think is fun but its very restrictive, to start with any way. When you get your ship it becomes more sandboxish.
Atlas Healshorn |
Alright, I have a holy symbol, scholar's outfit, belt pouch, Doctor's Mask and healer's kit (pretty self-explanatory), hide armor, buckler, and warhammer (since I do know I am going to be sent in as a combat medic, right?) and dagger, since it's my deity's favored weapon and all.

20 AC level one! that's ridiculous Lucanus :)
Well since everyone has their character pretty well done I'll look into starting up the campaign thread.
Unfortunately this campaign starts on a boat as well...but I hope you guys are okay with that, it may be the last boat you see in this entire campaign however so bear with me :)
Oh just as an aside. Day to day, in the camp, sleeping, etc. It's highly unlikely that you would wear your armour. I will assume that when you are travelling most of you will be wearing your armour.
Also some characters, such as Atlas, Matei and Kayla, If you were seen carrying weapons larger than say a short sword or dagger around in camp it might raise some eyebrows.
Think of it as the tv show Game of Thrones, sure they have plate armour greatswords and bows but in social situations, like feasts or meetings even the knights and warriors only have a one weapon and light armour on.
Matei Manx |
Matei always wears his chain shirt but if people ask him he says it is for extra protection while working the forge. Besides that people might know he's from Isger and there you always have to be ready for a Goblin attack. As for weapons, I assume people are used to my chakrams by now and being a smith I could get away with a hammer?
GM Faol Mhor |
Matei, you've only been a porter for about a week or so so you would probably keep the Chakram in your bag. The soldiers guarding the general and lady Thrune would not take kindly to potential assassins carrying weapons around the ship.
Do you have a way of tying them to your body? as a porter you need both hands free to carry. I'm fine with people wearing light armour in their off duty times and a chain shirt is fine.
GM Faol Mhor |
as for the hammer, he wouldn't need to be dressed as a blacksmith on a ship with no forge and carry the hammer. it doesn't mean he cant have it in his things but sometimes being dressed in a certain way isn't appropriate to the situation, like Lucanus and Nemius grooming horses and cleaning up horse dung in their armour would be kind of strange lol.
GM Faol Mhor |
It doesn't mean life will always be like that for your characters, but just now, as nobodies and teenagers life is a bit different.
Anyway the game thread is up and its a long post...I hope you don't mind. I hope you also don't mind if I use "the lore keeper" as kind of running narrative once in a while, Kind of as a way to transition the story.
Matei Manx |
Keep in mind though that Matei is only 14 and very proud of his status as blacksmith so chances are he'll carry his hammer every chance he gets.
As for the chakrams, he has a leather strap that allows him to wear them on his right hip.
Matei Manx |
Going through Ultimate Equipment I loath having only 1 belt slot as I want both a dex belt and a Greater belt of Mighty Hurling. Adding returning to any weapon I throw frees up a lot of enchantments.
Nemius Laurennor |
I was having a bit of trouble getting into character at first, but it's flowing a bit more easily now. I think I'm playing him a bit too old right now...
Takes me a bit to really get into character.
Lucanus |
I take it as Game of Thrones, which I think has more of a focus then we all realize. I'm feeling a lot like Jon Snow, as I take care of the master who has taken me under his wing.
For those not familiar, in Game of Thrones, age is relevant depending on your role and attitude, there were some 16 year olds that were seen with such respect that it would rival someone in their late 40's
GM Faol Mhor |
I think my game is inspired a bit by game of thrones for sure.
Lucanus It is true, Jon snow had to work to get the respect of the black brothers and Rob Stark had win respect from the men of the north but whne they did get it they had it and the men would follow them.
Position and upbringing also makes a huge difference though.
In that world and in our games era the noble and the commoner are worlds apart, even when a noble is kind and good they are still a noble, and someone is still a commoner.
That doesn't mean commoners can't rise above their station in my game :)
But it would take work.
I think of the butchers son and Arya Stark, the butchers boy is simply run down and killed, with no care for his life. It's a different world and sometimes I think we aren't used to just how ingrained the caste system was in the middle ages, even into the renaissance.
Matei Manx |
The story of Matei's granddad actually exemplifies that caste system to some degree. He was a slave, so even lower than a commoner, but he saved an entire town while the militia was away and the one noble in the area, and his owner, had called his soldiers back to protect the mansion while sending Matei's granddad out to get supplies. For saving the town he became the hero of the people but the noble didn't really care and actually got pissed because he didn't do what he was told but chose to assist the village. The only reason he was set free is because you don't mess with a few hundred civilians as well as their armed militia, even if your soldiers are better trained.
