DRAMATIS PERSONAE

The Household of Paracountess Dessra Thrune:

Paracountess Dessra Thrune:

23rd in line for the infernal crown, she is a great granddaughter to the current queen. She is a noble through and through and a loyal adherent to the laws of Asmodeous and his church. She has the reputation of being efficient and forceful and she is not above using people as examples to make her point.

Many common and noble folk alike have been openly questioning her ability and qualifications to lead the first army invading Varisia, but she seems to have the full support of the current queen. However it is widely rumoured that the immediate successor is not fond of her.

Lady Esmara Dakartt:

The chief lady in waiting to Lady Dessra Thrune, she is noble born to the house of Dakartt

Most people find her to be a very difficult person to read, her eyes seem sharp and aware and she doesn't seem to miss much.

She is a young human woman, well educated, perhaps eighteen or twenty years old, of average height with a long dark brown braid and she wears a grey and green dress with white frills and a modest cut.

She has green piercing eyes.

Bertha:

A gruff and hot headed cook for Lady Thrune. She isn’t hateful or spiteful but she is stern and precise, making sure everything is just perfect for her ladyship, growing angry and flustered if things are not proper or perfect. She treats Kayla as most common Chelaxians do all Halflings, as if they are beneath them.

Hani:

A Scullery maid in her twenties from Egorian. She treats Kayla as if she is her own personal maid and makes sure Kayla gets all the jobs she doesn’t want, such as taking care of the dogs and helping in the kitchen. Hani prefers to be the one who cares for her ladyship’s rooms, turning down the bed washing the clothes, anything that allows her to be closer to the nobles.

Agathon and Cimbrian:

Lady Thrune’s favourite hunting hounds, both very large and both very friendly towards Kayla.

Hellknights of the Order of the Scourge:

Blademaster Sigmund Krase:

Master Krase is a fair but stern man, he has, in the past, kept his distance from politics and built his reputation by being a competent commander and a man who seeks to uphold justice. Many times he finds himself at odds with the generals. He rarely loses his temper but once in a while when he does it is a sight to see and most people run in terror. He is known to be one of the best swordsmen in the order and favours the bastard sword. He is also a competent horseman and strategist.

Paralictors Jaran & Davian:

These are Master Krase’s most trusted Hellknights, both of whom have been on many campaigns and lead units to victory as well as maintained order and peace with great fervor and efficiency.

Jaran favours a hefty warhammer in battle while Davian favours the shield and the long sword.

Both men are strong and tall and for the most part stoic and reserved, though Davian is prone to good cheer sometimes, especially when he is out ridding. He is perhaps one of the best horsemen in the entire order and has been known to train some of the finest mounts, a side hobby of his.

Sunder

The Grey spotted destrier of Master Krase. Sunder is a fine horse, strong and quick with a good temper and well trained.

Sergeant at Arms Vilhelm “Lark” Lakmunn, 3rd Battalion:

A bit of a rogue whogoes against the grain. He and his men are some of the best shots in the regiment and they know it. They are given a little more freedom to act and have been assigned sniper duty aboard the Braxus and skirmisher duty and foraging with the Black Hearts Heavy Horse when the army lands.

Black Hearts Heavy Cavalry:

Ser Magnus Cortain, Commander:

Magnus Cortain is a charming and smart man, handsome by any standards and innovative. He's also a knight through and through, believing in being gallant and daring and cutting an imposing figure on the battlefield. Although he stands just over 6 feet he still manages to come off as a giant of a man in social settings or when ridding his horse into battle.

Although he seems to be just a commander he is in command of one of the most prominent cavalry units in the army, The Black Hearts. This group of knights and horsemen have dropped the lance and now are using pistol and longsword in combat.

They ride hard towards their targets let loose a volley into the enemy and then engage with their swords. This new tactic seems controversial with the generals but Ser Cortain seems to have the full support and trust of Lady Thrune.

The Black Hearts also ride exclusively black warhorses and it's said the second in command is a wizard or magus who casts fear and doubt into the minds of the enemy as the Black Hearts charge head long into battle.

Several Lords have made it clear publicly that he is stepping beyond his station and advising on battle strategies when he is only a commander but it seems like he has Lady Thrune’s ear and he plans to use it.

Ser Lokerbee:

Is a knight of panache and charisma, he clearly suffers from an ego larger than most, but he seems to be able to back it up. Tall, handsome, with a large moustache he cuts a striking figure, especially on parade where he wears extra plumes and has an elaborate red cape. Several times he's been mistaken for the commander Cortain because he is so over dressed, which doesn't seem to bother Ser Cortain at all, in fact they seem to get a laugh out of it.

Ser Barton:

Is a quiet and thoughtful knight, but other than that he seems well adjusted and confident. He is an expert shot with a pistol, and very competent with the blade.

Ser Faulk:

He is a knight who never seems to talk except in low whispers and then only to Ser Cortain or Ser Barton. He seems to dislike Lockerbee but Lockerbee seems not to care.

Faulk is not the most impressive rider in the unit but he is competent. There is some speculation that he is in fact a magus.

Frenzy:

A black riding horse belonging to Ser Cortain and under the care of Squire Nemius.

Pantheon:

A temperamental black destrier. The primary warhorse of Ser Cortain under the care of Squire Nemius.

Church of Asmodeous:

Priest of Asmodeous and the superior to Atlas.

Cardinal Oradnus the vile:

A grotesque man who loves to eat and dine and party as well as sacrifice people who cross him on the altar of his horrible faith.

Arastus, the Diabolical wizard of House Thrune:

Little is known about this powerful wizard, he is feared throughout Cheliax as a man of power who came to prominence three years ago. It is rumoured that he is the one who fought for the invasion of Varisia and is secretly in charge of the entire invasion, but that appears to be just a rumour. What is not a rumour is that he is a powerful and very dangerous man who was responsible for the sacrifice of Paracount Simian Terrcot and his entire family on the altar of Asmodeous.
