Yeah, sorry about that guys. Busy weekend. I wasn't at my computer at all.
As for how your GMing is gonig MG I personally love it! You're giving our characters a chance to interact and play around and subtlely giving us hints to the plot and not ramming it down our throats. Kudos! You're also allowing and fostering our characters to grow and develop relationships. Which I love. We've had a really great chance to get to mesh/clash with other members of the party and I think it's going to lead to a better game over all. Not only that you're willing to work with and take ideas from us.
As for how the rest of the group is doing. Jax - it's great to see he's more than just a hardnosed military man. From what I've seen he seems to be a kind of Flexo type character from Futurama. Waxing and wanning from the strict orders to the jokes and lesiure back to military man.
Torque - I love the nerdy engineer with obvious doubts of faith. Valen and Torque are already getting along well and once the idea of The Big Top is revealed I know Torque and Valen are going to bond even more over the idea. I greatly look forward to it.
Tok - Right now I definitely see Tok as a calming factor of the group. He's sort of the odd man out in the group and his obtuseness fits right in with the group. I can't wait for chances to help him fall off the wagon and really channel his inner drunk. I love the various awkward statements and the inability to be personable. It's great!
Gremm- the ma and pa kettle kinda country boy aspect is great. You're homestyle wish with a bit of humor is great. It's nice to see someone able to play the hulking strong guy who may be a little dull witted but obviously affectionate. You're tempering it well with his stories of his parents and on the road life. You're doing a really good job and it's really enjoyable.
Nine-Tail - the street raised blade who now loves the outdoors is a nice angel. I love how he his humor is a little off kilter and angeled slightly with his fae/kitsune heritage. His isquisitve nature is great and really captures that fox-like aspect. Further kudos for not playing the sterotyped 'I'm a samurai. My life is my blade.' It can be good in the right story-line and I don't think this is it. But you're doing great and I love the character.
Acune - the lone girl in a group of men. It's obvious that Acune's strength lies with her faith and she doesn't need to prove that to anyone. It's obvious she's confident in who she is and doesn't need to prove herself to anyone. Her quiet demeanor makes her a mystery and it's going to be fun to see how she develops. I certainly can't wait to see her and Valen interact more and see whether they clash or mesh. It'll be fun! Can't wait.
As for the direction of this game I'm still looking more into some of the stuff in UM so I may pose a slight variation on what Valen is. Not sure. I will probably stay all sorcerer since there isn't much in Pathfinder for sorcerer PrCs.
Valen certainly wants to see more of the world and he's really interested in learnin more about not only his magic but where it came from. How did he get the infernal powers that he has? What family member made a deal with a devil/demon? Is the family fortune from that? How is he going to control it/hide it from the rest of the group? I know he really wants to see the Academae and potentially learn some of it's magical secrets.
I can't wait to get even more in this game and for all of you to see more than Valen's showy side. I certainly apologize now for when he gets dark and moody later on. Valen has a darkside and he doesn't want it showing.
Overall I can't wait for more and I think things are really going well!

Acune wrote:her backstory includes something of a vendetta against demons.Wow, that's going to lead to some akward conversations with Valen once he unlocks a few more bloodline powers...
I know! I can't wait till it happens and some of his backstory starts coming to light.

Valen, how you u feel about eventually taking an Abyssal Disciple variant of the Dragon Disciple?? In another PbP I'm in that's on an indefinite hiatus, I am playing an Infernal Disciple, so it shouldn't be too difficult to make an Abyssal verison. Also, do you have access to Lords of Darkness II? The PrC in there is kinda niffty, depending on how dark and evil you want to make Valen.
Valen Morse |
DD has always been an interesting PrC for me. Depending on what we'd do with the Abyssal version I might do it. But it also depends on how things play out in the group and whether Valen begins to give into him more demonic nature. Currently I'm unsure of where he'll go. As for Lords of Darkness II I think I do have it, I'm not entirely sure. I might take a look but again I'm not sure where he's going at this point. My current plans are straight 20 sorcerer, but that could change depending. I don't think Valen will go evil but that could happen depending on events in the game. But I will be sure to take a look.
Monkeygod |
I wouldn't say you need to be CE or any sort of evil minded to further explore your bloodline. A dark curiosity sure, but not truly evil. I will say that if you do decide to go that route, your personality would need to reflect a bit more demonic outlook, but even at 10th, I wouldn't say you shift fully CE, especially since I am being kinda nonchalant about alignment.
I have a friend who can help me create an Abyssal Disciple, which I can then show you. Do you have a particuar Demon or Demon Lord you desire to be descendant from?? If so we can tailor the PrC to better reflect the kinds of abilities you want.

Right, I've got a bit of a plan
I think I'll continue to level artificer until level 7 for metamagic science, craft wand and level 3 spells. Beyond this, artificer spell progression tails off dramatically. I'll instead start taking fighter levels. This will make me feel more like a specialist soldier than an attached civilian, which will make the party seem more military. I'll probably go with feats to make me more effective with rays fired from wands and attacks from a heavily buffed repating crossbow or perhaps even a firearm (an artificer can put all his buff spells in the same device and cast them in one turn). My role as party healer will become somewhat secondary - I won't be doing it so much in combat, but instead repurposing my weird science slots to cure and restoration spell during downtime. That's the best I can come up with now, anyway.
Of course, I reserve the right to change this plan as I get a feel for how the class plays. I'm pretty certain about cross classing once I hit level 7, though - artificer really doesn't have that much to recommend it beyond that point. The 'capstone' ability is dire.

I think the way I see my character developing is more of a good guy with powers derived from an evil source. He's been handed these abilities but is going to strive against their nature to use them for betterment of other and not just himself. I know that's cliched but hey, 'if it ain't broke don't fix it.' That isn't to say he won't be curious. That's a given. He certainly wants to see where they came from and to learn more of them. This is at least the way he's currently leaning. Something could happen to make him go completely the opposite direction. I do hope for some chances to really be torn with this character and be forced to make the hard choice.
I'll have to take a look at the demon lords to see which one I think will suit him best. I'll be sure to get back to you on it.
Valen Morse |
Well, let's take a look at my plan:
Every odd level I will take Improved Natural Armor. Every Bonus Feat I take will be to better my greatsword mastery. Gremm smash.
Simple enough.
I would look into taking Furious Focus from the APG. Also the feat that adds to your saves versus magic for being a dwarf is nice. I would also look into deepsight. It upgrades your darkvision to 120 ft. Also Improved Stonecunning and the feat up from that are nice. Improved Stonecunning gives you an extra +2 to notice odd stonework and what not. The kicker is the feat up from that gives you termor sense up to 10 ft, which is always nice. All you need is 10 ranks in perception and stonecunning. I'm not sure if the racial heritage feat gives you stonecunning but it's a good feat. Also from personal experience the Step-Up feat tree is amazing. Just some suggestions.
Hiros Gremm |
I've severly limited myself by forgoing anything but Bonus Feats due to improving Gremm's natural armor. I felt it would be enjoyable and actually accentuates the roleplay, if Gremm has hide as tough as a dragon. For the most part, I'm stuck taking anything to beef up my greatsword attacks.
Valen Morse |
Then I would definitely look into Furious Focus. It's great for two handed weapons and power attack.

Rp-wise:- It may be pretty obvious already but Jax is aiming for an Officer position. I tailored him to be a true Military man. Yes, he may be part of a Merc Army but it is still an Army, at least that is how he views it.
Mechanics-wise:- He ain't gonna be known as old Deadeye for nothing! ;) I'm gonna build off of the Crossbowman Archetype and probably straight shoot till level 20. If not, I may go to level 10 then maybe take Hound Master Cavalier, if that is okay. I was hoping on making Jax a sort of Training Officer. So he would Recruit and train up new Squads as the story progressed. But the only way I can kinda see that working is with Leadership.
Other than that... Gear. Ahm... I'd like stuff to increase my archery, while keeping my physical stat level at the same time. Also some random loot with interesting side effects would be nice! :)

Don't forget that UC comes out in a few months and with it around 250 feats. I am so not kidding either. So don't be too set in stone what ur feat selection will be like.

Oh, I know. It's the book I've been most excited for all year, well other than Carrion Crown AP, that is.

Wow wow wow... My eye? Do I at least get to choose which eye? And why my eye? This will surely impair me as a Marksman? Ta hell with it... Call me Dead Eye, give me a patch and my stripes and its a deal! :)
Oh. That is interesting. Hmm. I will read over that and see. Nice idea.
Valen Morse |
Hey MG, I was wondering could I potentially swap the 9th lvl bloodline power of the Abyssal wildblooded archetype, Brutal, for the one I normally get at 9th? Normally at 9th level I'd get strength of the abyss which gives a +2 to strength. Although nice, I'd rather have the Wings of the Abyss bloodline power. It gives me wings a number of minutes per day equal to my sorcerer level. I just like the wings power better. I know I could just take the wildblooded archetype, but I like the standard abyssal bloodline arcana better than the brutal one.
MG, I think I figured out some of where my demonic ancestry came from. Could I get your email so we could discuss things?

This is why you must loose an eye I believe it's the left, btw, lol
Valen, it's cool to swap out for Wings of the Abyss, and this is my email:

Although I didn't know we could take levels in BAMF.

What's the policy on taking multiple features from archetypes? Is that allowed? Assuming, of course, that the abilities don't overlap.
You mean like taking two Monk archetypes?? Absolutely fine, as long as each one requires you to give up different abilities. However I also ok with slight fiddling around with them or even working wth you to create a new one.
Blaze is a Dawnflower Dervish, but I worked first with Pentor then my current GM to come up with a archetype that trades out Bravery for bonuses to Iniative and Speed.
Valen Morse |
Hahaha! I totally forgot about Nick Fury having one eye. I am more than okay with this. Hmm.
And it's not like we could replace it with some sort of magical contruct. Maybe a mechical/magical eye that shoots scorching rays so many times per day. Hmmm, this would be fun. I should talk to Torque about it once you loose your eye.
Valen Morse |
So, I had an idea for side conversations such as things that happen during watch or other times. I think what we could do is email one another with conversations and just CC MonkeyGod in the email. That way it won't detract from the game overall and we can still have these kinds of off screen conversations. I think it'd be fun and be a chance to not only interact more but also help us further develop our characters.
Because I personally want to see how the conversation between Acune and I would turn out. Feel free to do this if anyone else wants.
Pvt.Fury |
Sounds like a fine plan. :) Count me in!
Oooh! CAN I get a mechanical eye? That would be beast. I want it to have a red lens and a bit that covers the ear so I can run around and say stuff like "ITS OVER 9000!!!". Heh... On second thoughts... That would only work if we like found a BIG chest of Gold or something!

Fury's Gaze
Minor Artifact
Aura Strong Divination, Faint Evocation, Faint Transmutation; CL 15th
Slot Eyes; Weight 1 lb.
Description
This small orb is made of brass, composed of small clockwork fixtures. It fits inside one's eye socket. Only one fury's gaze may be worn at a time. If a second orb is placed inside another eye socket, the clockworks within both orbs cease to function, rendering them useless. The orb functions as a normal eye would allowing basic sight, but also grants the bearer the effects of continous greater darkvision, arcane sight, and true seeing. The orb also grants a +10 competence bonus on Perception checks. Three times per day, the orb can shoot beams of flame as scorching ray. Once a day, the bearer of the orb may focus upon one target and be guided by the orb to deliver a mighty blow. This functions as the spell true strike
Destruction
Fury's gaze is destroyed if struck by a hammer of thunderbolts or a staff of the magi. It is also destroyed if thrown into a sphere of annihilation.
Pvt.Fury |
By the Divines... I want it. Can I have it? Huh? Huh? Can I? I'll take out my damn eye with a spork if I can just have it. I know I wouldn't be able to get it till some ridiculous level but g+#&@@n it I do not care! That is... Why that is just the most badass Artifact ever!

I'm not sure if we discussed this or not, but did we decide on what XP track we're taking for the campaign? I know we got like 500 for the roleplaying and combat but I wasn't sure which we were using. Unless of course you're just going to tell us when to level MG.
Also did we get a tally on what we got for gold after search the bandits for loot?
Sorry to sound like the typical gamer and discuss this but we hadn't yet and I thought it should be brought up.
Voice of Awesomeness |
Yea, sorry about that. I was expecting Pentor to deal with the loot from the bandits, but we're pretty sure we lost him.
As for XP we're using the fast track.
Also, I'm not sure if this is going to continue on as a 4 arc meta-squad game, wherein we all eventually meet up and work together. The GM for my squad seems to not be inclined to run/play in, that any more.
