About Torque Mitabu

Torque Mitadu was born in Manaket, the foremost seat of arcane learning in Rahadoun. His father was a Mwangi Bonuwat- tribesman who served on a trading ship for some years before settling in Manaket. Despite having a mother of Garundi extraction born and raised in Rahadoun, Torque is near-indistinguishable from a pure-blood Mwangi.

In his teenage years, Torque was appenticed to Dwarf engineer Alk Dolgringun, an immigrant from Alkenstar who had travelled to Manaket in the hopes of finding his fortune working on the city's desert barrier project. Though a civil engineer by trade, Alk proved to be far more than that. His true interest was phisiology, and he had made several startling discoveries regarding the link between positive energy and biology. He taught torque how positive energy could be extracted from a sleeping being, stored, and ultimately used to mimic the effects of divine power without the blessing of the gods so reviled in the Kingdom of Man.

Unfortunately for Alk, the Pure Legion did not bother to understand the difference between tapped positive energy and divine intervention. Both Alk and Torque were convicted of illegal worship and exiled from the land. As his parents - who disowned him when his 'crimes' were exposed - had done before him, Torque set sail with a trade convoy. On a long voyage north he built a rudimentry understanding of the mechanisms Alk had gifted him with before they parted ways and even made a number of improvements of his own. By the time he arrived in Ustalav he had perfected a number of intricate clockwork mechanisms that could shape the positive energy he harvested from his own body into simple arcane spells of healing and protection unknown to conventional wizardry. This expertise allowed him to be recruited into one of the mercenary units operating in the area.

Torque takes his duties as a field medic very seriously, but his upbriniging in Rahadoun means he understands that sometimes people just can't be saved. He hopes to one day develope enough of an understanding of Alk's syphoning technology to get the technique reviewed by a wizard of enough repute to prove it is arcane in nature. Thus will Torque prove his innocence and secure his return to Rahadoun.

Appearance and Demeanour
With his exotic Mwangi feature softened slightly by his Garundi blood, Torque is strikingly good looking (if a little skinny). This, along with his outgoing nature and eagerness to learn about new places and people, makes him inherantly likeable. The particularly perceptive, however, may notice that this alone does not account for the general wellbeing one feels around him. In truth, positive energy no longer totally stops flowing when Torque takes the Siphon off. This does more than make him easy to get on with, though. In a few near-unnoticable ways he is aged beyond his years...

Wierd Science Devices

Condensate Syphon (power source): a breathing mask linked to a series of pumps, glass tanks and clockwork centrifuges, with adjustable valves jutting from every pipe in the assembly. Torque wears this device when he sleeps - the noise isn't so bad once you get used to it. In the morning the final tank is filled with white glowing liquid - condensed positive energy to power his devices. To work correctly the syphon must be callibrated according to one's emotional state, which prevents Torque from building more and harvesting additional positive energy from his comrades - doing so would require him to have knowledge of their innermost thoughts.

1) Mass Amplifier (Gravity Bow): A row of conductive arches that clamp onto the stock of a crossbow or barrel of a firearm. They add to the mass of a projectile as it passes through them. Since it's already moving, the firer doesn't feel an increase in the weapon's recoil. The target, however, certainly feels an increase in it's stopping power.

1) Shock Glove (shocking grasp): A heavy leather gauntlet re-enforced with copper plates and linked to a condensate-fueled arcane dynamo. Applying pressure to the palm charges it with magical lightning, allowing Torque to inflict serious damage on any foolish enough to get close.

2) Upgraded Applicator Gauntlet (Cure Moderate Wounds): A metal gauntlet with fine nozzels mounted on each finger and linked to a small tank of positive condensate near the elbow. The flow of condensate is controlled by moving the fingers and wrist of the gauntlet. When the condensate touches a wound it accelerates the healing process, allowing a month's recuperation in a few heatbeats - assuming Torque gets the dosages right.
