Ro'gram |
"I think we should do both." Ro'gram replies to Pavo. "We go cautiously, but not without some purpose. That way we don't rush into traps and ambushes, but also avoid taking too long."
DM Dickie |
Kobold 2 stealth: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Kobold 3 stealth: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Kobold 4 stealth: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Set average to 20
Kobold 1 perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Kobold 2 perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Kobold 3 perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Kobold 4 perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Feel free to make plans as you need. The following assumes returning to the cave entrances you were previously at.
Spitter Snagscale |
Approaching the lair...
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
"Too quiet."
Maellyra |
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Maellyra helps bring up the rear, the dagger in her hand occasionally catching what little light there is to be found with night having fallen. "Can your kind see well in the dark?" she asks Spitter, her tone more than just conversational. "And what of their scales? Do they offer any protection against the elements? Or fire?"
Spitter Snagscale |
Spitter nods and continues quietly, gripping his small staff in both hands.
"Yes and sometimes. Our scales...it is generally believed...are remnants of ancient dragons that 'created' our kind. Because of this, as a blue-scale, I have an affinity and minor resistance to electricity. Therefore the green-scales could easily have some sort of resistance to acid-like effects."
Maellyra |
"That is very useful," Maellyra says gratefully. She makes a note to stick to using alchemist's fire in case Spitter is right about the possibility of the greenscales being resistant to acid. Naturally, the witch wonders if such a resistance might be conferred to another by making a sort of leather armor from a kobold's scales, but her musings are purely academic, of course. Still, she decides against asking for Spitter's opinion on the viability of her theory and chooses instead to remain quiet as they draw closer to the kobold lair.
Stealth: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Pavo "Fish" Krupt |
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Bringing up the rear of the pack, Pavo carried his trident in one hand and his shield in the other. His eyes scanned the surrounding area as his ears listened for the sounds of the world, or lack thereof.
I wonder why no guards... he thought to himself.
DM Dickie |
The guards, though expected, had expertly camoflauged themselves, and as soon as the group is within range, they strike at the point-man!
K1 Sling vs. FF: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
K2 Sling vs. FF: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
K3 Sling vs. FF, range: 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 3 - 2 = 20
K4 Sling vs. FF, range: 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 3 - 2 = 17
K2 damage: 1d3 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2
K3 damage: 1d3 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1
K4 damage: 1d3 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0
So 4 total to Ro'gram in the surprise round. Everyone can act before now, Round 1 on.
Spitter Snagscale |
Scowling at the slingers, Spitter steps up behind Ro'gram and casts a magic to protect the group.
"Enough of that!"
Casting my domain spell: Obscuring Mist! 20ft. Radius! Nobody can see past 5 feet!
Ro'gram |
Ro'gram moves forward cautiously, on guard for any attack through the mist. His nose sniffs the air, alert for the scent of kobolds he could strike at.
Defensive, moving forward through the mist.
DM Dickie |
If Ro'gram starts moving toward the last known position, he will be in contact with the nearest hostiles with a single move (five-foot step, really) which would mean he could still make an attack against a target with 20% concealment.
Concealment: 1d100 ⇒ 73
Leng moves swiftly and quietly through the mist. Near the entrance to the southern cave he nearly collides with one of the tribe's guards. He strikes out and grabs a tight hold on one of the two kobolds.
Maellyra |
Hands outstretched, Maellyra blunders forward until she finds a sizeable boulder. Putting her back to it, the witch keeps her dagger at the ready while she waits for the mists to dissipate.
Move action.
DM Dickie |
CMB to escape grapple: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (16) - 1 = 15
The kobold in Leng's grasp struggles to get away from the blonde human, but to no avail.
The other two by the northern cave entrance chitter in panic.
And are concealed by the mist, so you can't really tell what they're doing otherwise. Everyone is up again.
Spitter Snagscale |
Spitter asks Gozreh to guide his new friend.
Casting Guidance on Ro'gram! +1 to your next d20 roll within one minute.
DM Dickie |
From his position passing the northern-most cave, Pavo is able to see a little ways in. The tunnel is not built for tall folk, and a bed of hay is scattered around a turn to the north within.
Perception K2: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Stealth K1: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Stealth K2: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Pavo's Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
He spots two kobolds trying to hide just around the corner of the tunnel. They do not seem to have spoted Pavo through the residual mists.
Not sure if you can see the icons well through the FoW, but the two kobolds are in the squares just over the hay.
Maellyra |
Sorry for the delay! Was busy battening down the hatches and evacuating.
Maellyra continues to hold her position until one of the others taking point gives the word to advance.
Delaying for now.
Ro'gram |
Ro'gram will walk carefully forward, ready to attack any kobold he comes across.
Attack (readied): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Miss Chance?: 1d100 ⇒ 5 I don't think I need this vs. the kobolds further back, but I am not able to check the map atm.
damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
DM Dickie |
Ro'gram pushes through the mist and hunches over in the short-ceilinged tunnel. He finds visibility is no better in the darkness of the cave, and can only see a short distance. A patch of straw lays scattered along the cave floor in front of him.
CMB to escape grapple: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (9) - 1 = 8
The kobold in Leng's grasp struggles, but fails to struggle free.
Pavo can hear hushed whispering followed by a series of high-pitched squeaks.
Leng the Wanderer |
Leng finishes squeezing the kobold that he holds into unconsciousness.
Grapple: 1d20 + 4 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 5 = 11 You have to be f*&%!ng kidding me.
I just got back from a tabletop game where in the final battle of the evening my attack rolls were 1, 2, 2, 1.
...but instead he just releases the kobold and lets it stab him to death, because apparently he is completely incompetent.
Spitter Snagscale |
Since it sounds like the others have things under control, Spitter decides to remove the no-longer-needed mist.
Dismissing the Obscuring Mist spell!
"Let us continue."
He then moves to follow behind Leng.
DM Dickie |
Spitter's cloud loses form, slowly turning into a small, dark thunderhead before dissipating in the night air. Everyone can see the dying and unconscious kobolds clearly at the southern cave entrance.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
As Pavo drops to examine the straw, he can see a kobold hiding just around the corner, standing at what appears in the dark to be an intersection. The kobold's sling is in motion, ready to loose a bullet at Pavo.
Ro'gram and Maellyra can act, visibity in the cave is nil in just about every spot. Everyone but Spitter has to stoop to navigate the caves.
Maellyra |
Not having the benefit of being able to see in the dark, Maellyra attempts to rob the kobolds of their advantage by summoning a ghostly light to illuminate their way. With a gesture, the light-bearing phantom moves ahead of Ro'gram, unhindered by the cramped confines of the cave. (Casting dancing lights.)
Maellyra |
Yep! Exhausted, and there was some very minor flooding in the entryway and the kitchen, but all good! Thank you!
DM Dickie |
Just going to move things slightly here since really Ro'gram can't affect where the action is on the kobold side of things at the moment.
The kobold near Pavo snaps off a quick shot that smacks into Pavo's stomach, giving him a nasty bruise, but doing little serious damage. The kobold then immediately falls back into the western tunnel.
Sling: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Damage: 1d3 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1
Pavo can hear the squeaking sound intensify.
So for now, everyone is up. I will find a way to compensate Ro'gram.
Spitter Snagscale |
Snickering, Spitter replies as he touches Leng on his back gently so as not to startle him.
"You should always assume a kobold is leading you into a trap!"
Spitter casts Guidance on Leng. +1 to your next d20 roll within one minute!
DM Dickie |
Ro'gram and Leng gingerly poke about the straw scattered on the floor. Neither finds anything dangerous or threatening.
R's Perception w/trapfinding: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 8 + 1 = 28
Ro'gram advances close to the fork in the tunnel. At the edge of Maellyra's ghostly lantern bearer's glow he sees more straw at the south-eastern passage.
