Dyrant Maynor, the Pre-Sainted |

Round 6, Init 27
Dyrant smiles as he doesn't hear cries of pain and suffering from inside the cloud.
I wonder who should fly out of the cloud, the dragon or the half-orc?
Dyrant gives another look to the Azata moving his eyes to Toffitt.
The Azata will fly to heal the doctor. (AZBA:63-64/AZBA:82-83)

The dragon roars in frustration as it can't keep it's position. Glimmil frowns as more acid oozes down his armor, sizzling as bits and flecks land at his feet.
"You're okay Cog! That's great! I think the dragon's still up there unless Finneas learned a new trick..."
As Glimmil draws another arrow, he considers where best into the cloud to launch it and then remembers a story about the great Garl he read just a few weeks ago.
I know! I'll try to shoot the dragon in the mouth! That has to be a weak spot!
Glimmil aims his next several arrows at where he imagines the source of the acid breath came from.

It's not a good round for the party as they heal some, but fail to do any damage to the dragon.

A roar is heard from the dragon as one of Toffitt's arrows penetrates all of the natural armor and magical defenses.
Dyrant's fireball goes off clearing the way for Glimmil and it even penetrates the dragon's defenses, too.
REF save: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (6) + 13 = 19
Warning, I don't know if fireball is legal for clearing a fog cloud so don't quote me, but I like the idea so we'll use it.
One more of Glimmil's arrows could do it.

Glimmil |

Round 8, Init 12 (after delay)
With the fog dispersing after Dyrant's fiery explosion, Glimmil licks his lips and continues his attempts to pepper the dragon with arrows.
Longbow: 1d20 + 14 + 1 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 14 + 1 + 4 + 2 = 29 for 1d6 + 4 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 11 + 2 = 19
Longbow: 1d20 + 14 + 1 + 4 + 2 - 5 ⇒ (6) + 14 + 1 + 4 + 2 - 5 = 22 for 1d6 + 4 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 11 + 2 = 23
Longbow: 1d20 + 14 + 1 + 4 + 2 - 10 ⇒ (12) + 14 + 1 + 4 + 2 - 10 = 23 for 1d6 + 4 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 11 + 2 = 19
As each thunks and thuds and proves mostly ineffective, Glimmil looks worriedly as Finneas' bloody body begins to float ever so slowly towards the ground.

GM_Chris |

Finneas floats down 5' before Atol's ready goes off. With the freedom of movement, Finneas is not paralyzed, but without his sword which ended up in BB66 due to his haunting.
1d8 ⇒ 4
Finneas is within reach of dragon, but can't 5' up. He could draw while moving and attack. He could defensively cast. He could bluff to continue floating down? He could....???

Finneas up for a whole round of actions and then the dragon.

GM_Chris |

Dyrant's fireball explodes on the edge of the fog catching the dragon, but not Finneas. The dragon roars in anguish before plummeting to the ground. The party waits anxiously, but as the smoke clears Finneas's body floats slowly down. Atol's channel revives him before he reaches the bottom.
Dryant found the flame strike I recalled, but couldn't find. Damage edited above. The HeroLab PFS equivalent of the dragon had 252 HP. And, yes, we're out of combat.

Dyrant Maynor, the Pre-Sainted |

Dyrant huzzahs as the dracojerk falls as he readies his mighty AngelRelic for a cudgeling.
"HUZZAH! HUZZAH! Mighty Cauldron 5!" Dyrant does a few air flips and loop-de-loos in celebration.
Speaking quickly to the BardAzata, Dyrant thanks the imperfect azata for aspiring for more by aiding the Cauldron 5.2.
Dyrant dismisses the Azata and flies to the body of the dracojerk, both to apply more cudgels to the dragon's head but also Detect Magic.
"Where is your phylactery?" *whack*
"Where is your phylactery?" *whack*
"Where are the Cagewrights" *whack* *huff puff*
"How do we stop the Cagewrights!? Answer me!" *whack* *huffapuffa*
Dyrant hunches over, breathing deep with exertion from his mighty cudgeling.

Doctor Abner Svengalu Toffitt |

Toffitt retrieves his sword from the ground and takes a look at the pillars, looking for any differences from the last room. "That was... unpleasant."

Glimmil |

Glimmil was at full HP, so Atol gets to keep his healing touch for now.
Glimmil cheers as the evil dragon drops to the ground and throws his arms around Cog.
He then shakes his fist at the top of the chamber and addresses nobody in particular.
"Nothing can defeat the Cauldronfive! We're ready for the next challenge! Send out an even bigger bone-dragon!"
Glimmil stows his bow and picks up his lance just in case the evil gods hear his challenge and decide to test his companions again.

Finneas Glenn |

Finneas descends and picks up his sword, ruefully contemplating how narrow the victory was.
"I think any bigger and we'd have proven weaker. As it was the strength of Kord saw us through."
Need to get me a cloak of Displacement, yes I do precious.

Doctor Abner Svengalu Toffitt |

Toffitt's hands tremble as he slides his dueling blade into its sheath. He stumbles and then sits down. "Its jaws... Its dead eyes... I thought myself invulnerable. But there are forces none of us can withstand on our own." Slowly, he gathers himself and looks again at the pillars. "Dyrant, I have little stomach right now for gazing upon these dead things."

GM_Chris |

While retrieving his sword, Finneas finds a small hoard of treasure scattered about the floor. 5,361 gp, 1,739 pp, 5 small diamonds (925 gp each), 5 large diamonds (1,500 gp each), three platinum rings set with diamonds (1,750 gp each), a platinum scepter set with emeralds (5,000 gp), and a matching platinum crown set with emeralds (7,000 gp). There is also a belt of mighty constitution +2, a +2 keen bastard sword, and the dragon's phylactery (a small jewel-inlaid silver box worth 2,500, gp).

Finneas Glenn |

"Dyrant. Dyrant! I found the dragon's phy...phyl...soul thingy. There's a bunch of other stuff down here too, and what I think is...the Doctor's stomach? Yeah, looks like the dragon probably tried to swallow it and it just fell through the empty hole where it's stomach used to be. That's actually pretty gross when you think about it. Anyway, there's a bunch of coins and rings and a tiara for you down here. And a sword and a belt too."
Finneas begins flying this up to Dyrant, starting with the pretty platinum tiara.

Atol Lem |

Atol breaks out some snacks and a little wine for the group to enjoy while Finneas brings up the loot from below.
"Those are some very nice pieces. Good eye Finneas, good eye. Dyrant, are we walking back, or do you have speedier transportation ready? If we're walking, I suggest we camp here until we are more rejuvenated. That was a tough fight."
Aren't they all?
"I wonder though, what have we learned? We vanquished a troubling dragon to be sure, but what of the cagewrights? What's their next move? I have a staff I'd like to forge for the greater glory of St. Cuthbert, but I worry about the time it will take to make."

Dyrant Maynor, the Pre-Sainted |

"I do not wish to gaze upon these pillars any longer either, Doctor. I think we should destroy them, possibly even freeing the souls within to find their final embrace. If evil has used them for evil, then we cannot allow them to stand."
Dyrant stifles a stinkface at the pillars.
Does Dyrant think the pillars can be destroyed? How? And at what danger?
* * *
Dyrant thanks Finn for the tiara, putting it up on the head of the dracolich as he pulls out his sketch pad.
"You say there is more wealth down there? That is good news...we can spread it around the needy in Cauldron. Find ways to help them find the Cudgel. Food makes good friends, does it not, Finn?" Dyrant's eyes glitter with thoughts of free time to expand his ministry and encouraging more conversions.
Dyrant will sketch the dracolich and then the soul pillars, making notes as appropriate and trying to describe the battle and the victors in as much detail as he remembers. The Archons, Angels, and Azatas play a big role in his account.
* * *
Dyrant kicks the phylactery with his foot, looking at Glim.
"Glim...can you destroy this? We'll not want it around for long? Why not run it down to the Giant's Forge and unmake it there?" Dryant looks at Glim to make sure he understands the importance.
"This item is concentrated evil. It has the power to regenerate the beast we just fell again. It must be destroyed...to have it fall in the wrong hands would mean that that dragon is free to kill again. And we might not be so lucky next time. The Angels might not hear our calls or we might be outmanned. Either one would spell our doom."
Dyrant looks again at Glim to be sure he understands the danger...then at Cog in hopes that at least one of them gets it.
* * *
Dyrant gladly accepts the meat sammich from Atol, munching on it with gusto, only wishing for some nice red mustard for which to dip the bread.
"*chewchewchew* Atol, another great victory for the Cudgel, is it not? *chewchew* And, sadly, no, I have no means to get us quickly home this day. We can rest here for night," Dyrant takes another bite of sammich, "*chewchewchew* or we can walk back on our own power."
Dyrant sits and admires where he is, looking over the pillars and magic scorched environs.
I do this for you, Cudgel. My life for you.

Glimmil |

Glimmil looks at the silver box and briefly considers gifting it to Skie before he shudders upon feeling the great evil locked within.
"I will see that this box is destroyed! Can't I just use the holy power of Garl and smash it with The Whomper, here?"
Glimmil seizes the opportunity to think about Claw-Whomper, which appears from his magical glove with a *pop* not unlike the sound of a summoned azata materializing at Dyrant's will.
Setting the box on the ground, he gives the others a questioning look before bringing his hammer down to smash it into easier parts to travel and melt in the forge later, should such a trip even be necessary.

GM_Chris |

Does Dyrant think the pillars can be destroyed? How? And at what danger?
The pillars could be destroyed. With Dyrant pounding on them it should only take a lifetime. With Finneas chopping away it might take considerably less time. In regards to the method and the dangers we'll have to just see how creative I am in response to your actions.

Doctor Abner Svengalu Toffitt |

Toffitt takes the nice cloak and offers his chirurgeon's cape to Glimmil. "I pray this will keep you healthy, Glim." He approaches a column and takes out his blade. What souls might this blow release? What knowledge lost? What good affirmed? He begins hacking at it.
1d8 + 5 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 5 + 9 = 19
1d8 + 5 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 5 + 9 = 22
1d8 + 5 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 5 + 9 = 16
1d8 + 5 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 5 + 9 = 15
1d8 + 5 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 5 + 9 = 18
1d8 + 5 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 5 + 9 = 15
1d8 + 5 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 5 + 9 = 22
1d8 + 5 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 5 + 9 = 15
1d8 + 5 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 5 + 9 = 15
1d8 + 5 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 5 + 9 = 18

Glimmil |

Glimmil begins smashing the silver box, first with the blunt end of Claw-Whomper, then with the hooked end, rending away bits of twisted metal until he's satisfied in the phylactery's destruction.
Selecting a few interesting, twisted pieces, he offers to hand them to Dyrant, Toffitt, Atol and Finneas.
"Maybe we should each carry a piece, that way the only way this box can be whole again is if the scraps are taken from each of us!"
Glimmil nods, thinking his plan a sound one.

Atol Lem |

Atol smiles at the thought and takes his piece securing it in his pack with all the other gear.
I'll bury this in the garden at the church. No one will look for it there.
In reality he'll forget, and it will remain in his pack, forever lost among all the other detritus...

Dyrant Maynor, the Pre-Sainted |

Lol@Glim. Good plan.
Dyrant absentmindedly tucks the offered piece of lich-phylactery into his haversack, thinking that it is another form of chocolate to unwrap and eat later, so taken is he with other matters.
"Uh huh...thank you, Glim...I'm sure these victory caramel leeches will taste great later...uh hmmm..." Dyrant says distractedly.
Dyrant will monitor Dr. Toffitt's work from a distance, trying to understand the magics and souls combined that allow the soul pillars to work and what might work to unravel them.
When the Doctor has finished with a pillar, Dyrant will stay to examine it for signs of unlife before sketching the cold dead thing (the pillar, not the Doctor).
Continuing to slow play things...
Dyrant will help back up the loots and wants to ensure the destruction of the evil soul pillars.
