Goat Master |
oh thank god!
Rika comes up from behind, proffering the potion, as Adinomo strikes down the strange beast. Though its darkness persists. in the aftermath you find Uldar and feed him the potion healing him net 6 hp and bringing him conscious. You carefully bring everyone down the stairs, and eventually the darkness wears off. the odd conical , tendrilled beast looks hideous even in death. Lem reads his scroll of cure light wounds over Moose if no one objects, bringing him back to zero.
rika's potion for uldar: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
uldar stabilize rnd 1: 1d20 + 0 - 1 ⇒ (14) + 0 - 1 = 13
lem's scroll: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
You all slump down in the twinkling motes of dancing light, and glowing belts, in a thirty by thirty ft. stone room. Old carvings cover the walls of this square chamber, thick with dust and cobwebs. Three sets of stone double doors stand in the three facing walls. Heavy bronze seals emblazoned with the symbol of Pharasma secure the doors against whatever lies beyond.
You have time to rest as you carry the bodies down the stairs, and snack, have some water. most of you are still injured, and you have time and relative safety now to tend to those injuries and speak with eachother. You see Uldar for the first time, no longer just a voice helping you out in the darkness, and can make introductions.
Adinomo |
pfff, darkness can be so nasty...
After the battle Adinomo tries to use his wand on Uldar
Now what was that command word?
Use Magic Device DC20: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19 "Tervendarint!"
Use Magic Device DC20: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11 "Tervendamint!"
Use Magic Device DC20: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20 "Tervendamine!, Yes that was it!"
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
He then uses the wand on himself
Use Magic Device DC20: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24 "Tervendamine!"
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
And on Moose
Use Magic Device DC20: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14 "Terfendamine! Why don't you work?"
Use Magic Device DC20: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26 "Tervendamine!"
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
He then offers his small hand to the half orc "Hello, I am Adinomo. Thank you for helping us out there"
The little gnome is quickly investigating everything there is to see
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3, but in his enthusiasm does not see anything worth mentioning.
Uldar Uldeth |
"Hi Adinomo, I'm Uldar. Traveling performer, but I mostly travel between the different inns in Magnimar to be honest!"
"Be careful with that wand though! If you use it wrong it could break and we might need it if we want to get out of here alive! That thing almost killed us all 5 minutes after entering this damned dungeon!"
Rika Meadowwind |
"Thank you for the help, Uldar. You arrived just in time. I'm Rika. And thanks to Lem and Adinomo too, of course, for helping Moose. Go on and thank them, Moose."
Moose licks Lem's and Adinomo's face and Uldar's hand (because he can't reach higher).
"He still doesn't seem to be feeling very well. Do we have any healing we could spare or is it more prudent to give him my second potion?"
She'll wait until Moose is healed before taking a closer look at the room.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
"I think there's something written on that wall," she points out from the other side of the room.
Adinomo |
"I can use my wand again Rika, I am sure it won't break"
Use Magic Device: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8 "Tervendaminé!"
Use Magic Device: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11 "Tervendaminion!"
Use Magic Device: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24 "Tervendamine!"
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
"How is that Moose?"
After Moose is healed Adinoma asks "Anyone else in need of healing? And what's that writing you mentioned Rika, let's find out what it says!"
Uldar Uldeth |
"I can use my wand again Rika, I am sure it won't break"
Use Magic Device: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8 "Tervendaminé!"
"Told you so..." Uldar sighs
Try Again: Yes, but if you ever roll a natural 1 while attempting to activate an item and you fail, then you can't try to activate that item again for 24 hours.
Adinomo |
Whoops! Thanks Uldar. I know the rule, but managed to miss that natural 1.
After the first try Adinomo tries his wand again a few times
"Tervendamine, tervendamine, tervendamine!. I said Tervendamine!"
with a sad face he turns it around in his hands "That's weird, it stopped working! Can anyone else give it a try? The command word is tervendamine."
You might notice that Adinomo's ears turn red and he tries hard not to look at Uldar, but hands out the wand to Rika, Lem and Eleanor.
Rika Meadowwind |
"Thanks Adinomo." Rika points the wand at Moose. "Tervendamine, you said?"
Cure light wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
"There. Don't you feel better now?"
If no one else asks for healing she'll hand the wand back to Adinomo and take a closer look at the graffiti on the wall.
"It just looks like insane ravings or something... Does this make sense to anyone?"
T.A. Moostestus Porcuperus |
Moose grunts contently as he feels his wounds closing up. He'll take a sniff at the strange wall that his master is staring at, but the writing is too old to leave any scent for him to detect.
Goat Master |
the stone feels cold, and the cobwebs, while cleared as your brushing on the old stonework to get better view of the carvings and rantings, don't exactly freshen up the place. you cough and hack a bit as the dust slowly settles again.
Adinomo |
Adinomo stops Rika when she tries to give back his wand "Nah, you keep it for now, it seems you have the natural flair of saying tervendamine that I do not quite master"
He moves to the walls and reads the text as pointed out by Rika.
"Hmm, that's all just mumble jumble to me. Shall we be bold and try the middle door first?"
Eleanor Anima'Har |
sorry for late post, but got occupied
Eleanor looks up to the stairs and sees Adinomo running towards Uldar and sees Rika coming from down the stairs too. Adinomo excitingly tries healing Uldar and Moose, but once he starts trying to heal moose he suddenly forgets how to use his wand, so Rika takes over the wand and heals moose too
Well, that was quite a job, to get rid of that nasty monster. Now that Uldar and Moose are up again, maybe we should try to look around a bit more. Luca!! Come to me hon, you can sit on my shoulder again
She starts looking around a bit to see if she notices anything unusual, maybe a reason the darkmantle attacked them.
perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
As she looks, she notices something though. There has been scrabbled something on the wall, looking a bit like graffiti, an odd looking sentence. What could that mean?
Something looks to be written there on the walls indeed Rika. I don't really understand what it means myself, my heart is beating on the wrong side of my chest?
Only now she notices that she hasnt even introduced herself to Uldar
Ohh, btw, hi Uldar, Im Eleanor, don't think I've introduced myself yet. This on my shoulder is Luca.
Eleanor Anima'Har |
Eleanor breaks her head over the weird writings some more..
Might indicate that there is some kind of mind-affecting magic going on in this dungeon, wouldn't it?
Rika Meadowwind |
"It could be," Rika agrees. "But it might also be someone that's been lost down here for a very long time. After all, they don't open those doors very often. Maybe someone got trapped down here.
All the doors look the same to me, so we might as well take the middle one, indeed."
Eleanor Anima'Har |
Eleanor puts herself in front of the middle door, with her back to it to stop the party from going in.
Wait. If the doors look all the same, isn't it possible, that that writing on the wall, could indicate some kind of riddle? We should at least think about it a second or two.
Eleanor starts breaking her head.
Wrong side... or is it right?... Right as in, directional or opposite of wrong?...
Is Left right or wrong?...
Who's hart is beating?
Well..., she starts speaking a bit doubtfully, my feeling and thoughts say we should go left, but if someone has a better answer.
Goat Master |
by play by post standards, two votes for something = doing it. otherwise we'll be here all weekend for one decision =)
Adinomo strikes the chime. a crystal clear note resonating. For an instant you can almost see a pale blue light shimmer across the door, and then gone.
The enchantment on the door seems gone. He checks it, and the door swings open. So he pushes open one of the double doors.
Beyond, your light falls on age-yellowed linens in alcoves lining both sides of a wide corridor. Thick cobwebs hang from the ceiling and drape the walls of the crypt; everything is coated in a thick layer of dust.
Rika Meadowwind |
Rika quickly trots back up the stairs to retrieve her sling, then says as the doors open:
"Moose, do you feel up to some scouting?"
She waits a second to see if anyone follows her, then she and Moose start cautiously walking the hallway towards the other door.

Tiny Vermin, con poison Fort DC 10 1/round for 3 rounds; cure 1 save
Uldar calls out to attack them, and Eleanor fires at one, damaging it but not killing it. Knocking it off the ceiling enough for Luca to swoop up and attack it, biting through the skull and detaching several legs. it falls to the ground spasming as Luca hovers, looking for what to attack next.

having a chance to look around more, you see these remains are very ancient. the bodies that these spiders were inhabiting have crumbled to dust due to the disturbance.
double doors that look as if they haven't been disturbed in centuries lie at the end of the hall. they don't appear to be locked, but bear some carvings, concealed as much of the alcoves in this room are, in dusty spiderwebs.
Eleanor Anima'Har |
Eleanor looks around the room, seeing some squashed critters and some dusty remains, but not really much more than that.

"Hmm, nope. It doesn't mean anything to me either."
She waves Lem, Adinomo and Eleanor closer, hoping one of them can figure out what these symbols mean.
Goat Master |
Lem opens the door, sending his dancing light ahead to illuminate the room. This cavernous chamber vaults 20 ft. overhead, the doors letting out to a stone bridge with elaborately carved railings, which arches over the chamber from north to south, joining two sets of massive bronze doors at either end. Looking down, forty feet below, you see the central part of the room contains an inlaid spiral symbol, with a raised platform ten feet above that, joined by eight staircases leading up to the wide platform. On this ledge stand bronze doors to the east and west, as well as eight larger-than-life statues, standing upon the ledge as well, evenly spaced around the room's circumference - seven carved from white stone, and the eighth carved from black stone.

Am I correct in thinking that the platform with the staircases we see is on the floor below us? Or are the staircases leading down from this floor to the one below?
Uldar Uldeth |
Knowledge (religion): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
"the architectural style is much different than modern pharasman temples, but that is her spiral symbol inlaid in the floor." Uldar comments
"Though not a major god in the Thassilonian pantheon, Pharasma was still worshipped primarily as the goddess of death."
Goat Master |
think of yourselves on a bridge, 30 ft above the room below. so the landing with the statues is 30 ft. below you. and the mosaic floor swirl is 40 ft below you. the staircases mentioned only connect the landing 30 ft below, to the mosaic 40 ft. below. from where you are, other than jumping off the railings ( well, find, you could use rope ), there's no way down. just across the bridge. i tried to illustrate some of that with the side view in the map.

Adinomo moves ahead to the other end of the bridge and waves "Are you coming?"

Haven't the foggiest, can't see the statues well enough from up here. You really want to climb over? we can try the bronze doors over there, Lem points to the bronze doors on the opposite end of the bridge.
