I believe we missed that crappy Tatzlewyrm boat.
Fortunately we have a chance to be on the much superior "Water Wraith"!
(My answer: will turn on which PC I go with - hoping to finish soon-ish. I just dig making PCs. You and Phrip were right though, a dinosaur animal companion is even nastier than an eidolon - at least at level 1. Yikes!)
Faren "Untranslatable" |
I thought we might benefit from having our emerging roster posted back over here now.
The Fantabulous Team Bravo:
Phrip - human illusionist/rogue
Ansha – Alarien - female elven fighter (weapon master)
Flamethrower - Cordell Drummond male half-elf oracle (Wood)
Isaac – Harroan Sallemore - male human evoker (admixture)
Faren – Jaejoa - female human summoner (master summoner)[or still possibly saurian shaman]
Ben A – Bellamin Axeager - male dwarf cleric (separatist)
I think we're starting to look pretty swanky.
Vasrik the Sauromancer |
And since our last party member has now appeared, I'd best get my alternate PC put forward. He still has a few things like traits and equipment to be polished off.
My druid Varek is pretty tough (or rather his animal companion is) and could be quite handy, but I could see the dinosaur being pretty awkward in the urban adventure component.
Jace - do you think it should be avoided?
I'd be pretty content playing either one of these guys.

In a world where people shoot lightning from their fingers and commune directly with the gods on a daily basis, I think Varek and Black Fin will fit right in. Especially in a city like Tymon, which revolves around spectacular arena matches, often featuring exotic beasts.
Could you be a sport and add the stat block for your companion as well?
Edit: Ninjaed by Black Fin there.
I'll let the team decide who they want to hang with - I'm fine with both.
Faren "Untranslatable" |
And the latest tally then:
The Fantabulous Team Bravo:
Phrip - Nub - male human illusionist
Ansha – Alarien - female elven fighter (weapon master)
Flamethrower - Cordell Drummond - male half-elf oracle (Wood)
Isaac – Harroan Sallemore - male human evoker (admixture)
Faren – Jaejoa - female human summoner (master summoner) or Varek - male human druid (saurian shaman)
Ben A – Bellamin Axeager - male dwarf cleric (separatist)

And here's the companion stat block for Varek's animal companion. For those of who care, a spinosaurus is that really big dinosaur with a crocodile head that chases everyone in Jurassic Park III. But Black Fin is only size Medium -- he’s a cute little baby and perfectly harmless.
What a cutie - I can see why he might be worth keeping around. Ande he sounds pretty useful on the rivers as well.

I didn't even find the gameplay forum until last night! Color me surprised.
Alright, to help Faren make a decision, here's a party breakdown, Flamethrower style. I don't really put much stock into defined roles, since these things have a way of working themselves out, in my experience. They're useful as a baseline if you're making an effort to fill one, though.
Melee: Cordell and Alarien look like they will be in melee. Bellamin might stand up front too, he's got the strength and hit points for it.
Ranged: As an Evoker, Harroan best fills the ranged damage role. Alarien looks reasonably capable here as well.
Divine support: Bellamin and Cordell have this covered, with plenty of buff spells and spontaneous healing.
Arcane support: Nub and Harroan serve this role, with Nub looking to have a greater focus on the utility.
Social & skill support: Cordell will be able to handle social and natural issues, and we shouldn't lack for knowledge with two Wizards in the party.
Where do your proposed guys fit in?
Varek (where did you get that name, sounds familiar) and all of his potential allies look like great melee bruisers, and he can do some divine support as well.
Jaejoa can help with skills and arcane support. Sketch seems like melee, and all of her potential summons can fill ANY of the other combat roles.
Honestly, it looks like we're well covered whatever way it goes. From a personal perspective, it seems like it would be fun to interact with both of them - their personalities seem intriguing.
Nub |
Boo, illusion! Subtlety's for losers!
Ahh, let the arcane smack talk begin...
Evoke this and that
Reality bends sublime
Oaf plods towards what
Of course, my scrawny first level illusionist may not live past the first encounter to try further subtle gloats...
Faren "Untranslatable" |
(A joke - I've played a dwarf named Karek in his campaign on here for the last three years or so.)
Oh my goodness! I did not even notice. But clearly. . .
When you first made the comment I googled the name and found "Varek" is a character from The Wheel of Time novel series, books I have not read.
I am changing the name to Vasrik.
Man!
Black Fin |
What a cutie - I can see why he might be worth keeping around. Ande he sounds pretty useful on the rivers as well.
I'm on the BBC! (Or a larger relative perhaps)
That was awesome! I think that settles it then. I'm going to just have to go with Black Fin. Er, I mean Varek (er, I mean Vasrik)

Yeah, we're kind of into a 6th man situation. We'll either have 3 arcane or 3 divine and either way it's a bonus to the already covered field of tank.
I'm going with Vasrik the Sauromancer. Though I am going to 'undump' his Charisma as I don't want to play a low Cha PC long-term. I'm just not grumpy enough to pull it off.
Faren "Untranslatable" |
I've got house guests for the next week and I anticipate my posting to drop off. If I fail to check in, please feel free to GM PC me as needed. Vasrik tries to keep his head down and out of trouble but makes sure he pulls his weight if trouble finds the Water Wraith.
Don't let Cordell warp wood on any enemy vessels without me!

Background updated. Looking forward to the fun.
Come join the fun over in the Gameplay forum!

Check in often, try to advance things as much as you can, and have plans for your character so you know what direction you want to go and have strong opinions about party decisions.
Other than that, this is really only my second PBP, so I wouldn't call myself much of a veteran. :) You're doing great so far!
GM JaceDK |
Still here. For some reason, I still imagine I can get lots of time to tinker with stuff in the weekend, despite having been a father for almost five years now. Update is on the way, but I have maps and stat blocks to get straight first.
Faren "Untranslatable" |
Hey guys and gals, I am brand new to PBP so please feel free to offer me any tips or correct me if I am doing something that is annoying anyone or making the gameplay less of an experience for anybody.
Yeah, what Flamethrower said. Looks good to me too.
Though I suppose you could file down a few of those teeth and do something about those bloodshot red eyes. : )
GM JaceDK |
Keep the faith, everyone. At some point I WILL get around to updating, thats a promise. Thank you for your continued patience.
GM JaceDK |
Beautiful map Jace!! What did you use?
Thanks. I use TokenTool and Maptool from RPtools.net. Free java-based open source program. Highly recommended. There's a bunch of youtube tutorials on how to use the basics.

Appreciated! It's nice to have a custom map like that.

I suggest rolling Initiative in a single post for the whole party. I find that it saves a lot of time.
Good point. I'm attending my brothers wedding today, so everyone are free to roll for themselves if they like, and I'll roll for the rest tomorrow.
GM JaceDK |
Going away with the family over the weekend, so any updates are going to happen over my iPhone, so no map updates and no access to HeroLab for advanced NPC stats. Don't let that stop you from keeping the fight going, though.
GM JaceDK |
You know, I forgot Alarien was within the radius of Bellamin's bless when he cast it. /facepalm
If it is any comfort, it would not have made any difference. His AC was 16.
Edit: oh, wait, you got 15. Then feel free to take partial credit for bringing him down. It certainly settles the question of whether he's still alive or not.
