Heeeeere's Aran.
Still need to finish up a couple of things (namely gear and that last skill). Turns out Use Computer isn't on the Scout's list so I'm probably just gonna leave that out (unless there's some way to get a cross-class skill as trained).
I should also probably get an avatar.

Usually there isn't a way to get a cross-class skill but take a level in a class that has that skill (which adds all those skills to your potentially known list of skills). Then you need to spend a feat to learn the skill which raises it from 0 to +5.
I ran into that problem with my Wookiee when I thought it would be interesting to have the Persuasion (Intimidation) skill. There are a few talents in some classes that will give you a skill.
Soldier for example has talents that use the Persuasion (Intimidation) skill but it is not a skill on the Soldier's list. In the Forces Unleashed book there is a Mercenary Talent Tree that has a Talent that gives the ability to know the Persuasion skill.
Yes, it is quite a bit of complexity to niche protect class rolls in the SAGA system. It does have benefits when you compare how much Jedi can do with knowing the skill 'Use the Force' that they have only a few skill picks and their list isn't very wide (they excel at physical things which often includes combat).
Soldiers are similar to Jedi in that they are High HP but have plenty of weapon and armour feats. Soldiers have an extra skill and a few skills that can be used for out of combat (Mechanics, Use Computer, and Treat Injury).
Nobles have Low HP and the largest number of skills. The skill choices are sometimes less useful for an adventure role play style of game. Compared to the Scoundrel which has less skill picks then the Noble but they have one of the lists that players have troubles making a bad pick when choosing. Scouts fall between Soldiers and Scoundrels for skill list and have a skill exclusive to them in Survival but there are some technical skills that they would like to have but don't.
Everyone has something and mixing has advantage too.

Game thread for in character posting is here.
Rennicks Star Wars, The Sabers Edge
BTW if you need an interior for The Wanderer
Koros |
Sure, I don't mind. I figure we'll all be one happy family by the end of this thing after we all get over our prejudices. Koros for one isn't going to be trusting any Jedi in the beginning.
It's the state, and it's one of those mutual things. After all, I'm one of those durn hippies from California.

I will do my absolute best to post an update to the game every weekday. I will not always accomplish this, I teach full time, am working on an independent film on weekends and have a full life aside from gaming. On top of this, I am in Korea, which for most of you probably means I'm at least 12 hours ahead of you, your day will be my night, and when you're awake I will be asleep and vice versa.
That said I will do my best to post monday to friday and expect the same from everyone else, though there's leeway for monday and friday because of the time difference.
I generally don't post on my weekends and won't hold anyone else to it either. If I can give an update on Saturday or sunday I will, but it's never a promise.
If this doesn't work for anyone, let me know right away please.
ZebulonXenos |
Sorry for that. Sometimes my Fridays get et by other responsibilities and friends dragging me along for whatever. That happens sometimes but that's life.
I'll do my best to keep up.
As for the Use Computer stuff, I have to agree it's sort of a shame a single-classed Scout can't astrogate and pilot for himself, but I guess that's what droids are for. There's no way (short of taking Soldier or Scoundrel at 1st level, which just won't do) to get it at the start. I might consider taking a level of Soldier and snapping up the Skill Training feat, since I kind of had the idea of multiclassing Scout/Soldier since he's supposed to be a kid gradually becoming a more competent fighter, but I think I'll just let the character growth lead where it may.
Also, I picked up Pilot as my last skill as it was on my original charsheet and we don't seem to have anyone with it trained anyway. Rest I'll finish up asap (though it may take a while as my Internet's been wonky).
edit:
Gah, finally found where it lists starting credits.
3d4 ⇒ (4, 4, 4) = 12 x250
I'm riiiiiich
and expect nothing but 1s from now on

Here's another post from the alias, just for grins. Complete and right as far as I know. (Don't let that stop you from going over it with a fine toothed comb, though).
The only thing I picked up from outside of the main book is a spring-loaded blaster (weapon mod from Scum and Villainy - I only have that and the Clone Wars book anyway). Going for a 'shot first' type of guy here.
Also, I love Paizo's art and avatar selection, but until I was looking for an avatar for this character, I never noticed how serious all of them are. I mean, geez, finding one guy with a bit of levity to his expression that isn't totally cartoony is nigh-impossible.
This one grew on me, though, and it's good enough.

Don't worry too much about real life getting in the way, if you miss by a day, oh well. If its more, just try and pop on and let me know you'll be absent.
As for your use computer check, if no one has a major problem with the freebie, I can just say that you can consider it a class skill, and are allowed to train in it at next level.
As for taking pilot skill. Up front I'll be clear that I don't mind more than one pilot in the group, it's Star Wars! If I can get you all in space fighters in a pitched battle over a "not a moon" than I'm happy. That said, Cordal has been built towards being a Pilot with the racial ability to reroll pilot checks and the Force Pilot feat to let him sub his UTF skill for pilot.
ZebulonXenos |
Whoops! I thought something was up when he was apparently our pilot. I was just looking for it in the Skills line.
But yeah, having a spare certainly isn't a bad thing, and any space battles would just be gravy.
Your offer is very generous and I'll surely take you up on it. If I'd gone the multi-class route I had intended to play it up as finally having a breakthrough on the subject, and now that we're getting going perhaps that can be a mix of study in the downtime and a little help from friends (Zee in particular, since he seems to have it trained).
Prince That Howls |
Sorry to hear that, I hope it isn't too costly a fix for you. I just had a $1,600 laptop crap out on me not long ago myself. Of course with mine it was that the entire screen was busted. I would hope a shorted power adaptor would be an easier fix.
H'ishmau |
I've seen these before. They're pretty impressive. I just wish the kids weren't so nerdy. The second one is better because of their age. It's pretty obvious when they are pulling the hits, but that's to be expected. Saddeningly, the fistfighting looks considerably faker than the lightsaber swordplay.
Rennick |
I thought this was something I should put out in the open.
On combat and character death.
I am not one of those DMs who feels it is my job to make the player's life a living hell or that my campaign really isn't doing its job unless I have a TPK (unless its a Tomb of Horrors game). On the same note I'm not interested in throwing out freebies to players to help them along.
At any point though, it may look like I'm doing either of these things, I'm not. I try to build my worlds and stories as realistically (relatively speaking) as I can. This same philosophy applies to monsters and villains.
While I try to make sure that no one gets killed by a random encounter, combat can, and in my opinion should have the possibility to, be deadly.
This is a somewhat roundabout way of saying up front that while I will not endeavor to strike anyone down, I won't pull my punches in combat either. PC death is a possibility (A very real one at low levels) and I wanted everyone clear on that.
Rennick |
We aren't. For a number of reasons, chief among them being that I don't have time to make them and personally find that they take away from the narrative feel of D&D. When combat encounters happen I'll describe the place as best I can, and if needed or asked for, I'll give a more technical description as an OOC text. Its what I've done in my other games and its worked well so far.
Rennick |
Of course, Pitiful fools have stumbled directly into my trap, now witness the power of this fully armed and operational battle station!
Actually this mostly came up because I realized I had not made a similar declaration to a different PbP I'm running and they've come to their first "boss" fight who knocked everyone down by 5 hp, which at lvl 1, effin smarts.
ZCC or 'Zee' |
So, is this way of your saying that we shouldn't expect every fight to be an equally measured force that we will expend 25 to 50% of our resources defeating? You are mentioning that in some battles we might need to consider retreat instead of fight? Talking should be considered a substitute to violence in some encounters?
Rennick |
Well, that sounds a tad more clinical than I'd thought of it, but yeah it pretty much sums it up. Some encounters will be heavily weighed against you (You're a small resistance against a galaxy spanning empire) others will actually end up ridiculously in your favor (I find Stormtroopers become pitifully easy after a few levels, unless they've been upgraded or have some sort of help)
Mostly its just a warning that I don't like hand holding in my games and to not expect it. While I do try to work around unexpected deaths that are both not the player's fault and anti-climactic, it is entirely possible to bite it.
Rennick |
Sorry for the lack of update today, its been a busy week and is going to continue to be at least till my weekend. (I'll give a run down of all my projects later for sympathy when it isn't midnight :p) I will have an update up by tomorrow morning to very early afternoon my time, but its the best I can do.
Don't worry too much about Hish's size, I don't see it being any more complicated that regularly running combat without a map. We just need to keep in mind that he's a big boy, and will probably get a lot of Attacks of opportunity at first. Well actually Stormtroopers will mostly just try to stay the eff away, but you get what I mean.
Rennick |
A good suggestion. I think I'll try posting the ACs and see how that works, but keep the HPs to myself.
My issue with posting stats is twofold, one is that it makes things more mechanical, something I try to avoid in my games.
The other is that I like screwing with stats. One of my favorite fights I had as a player was against a Dretch who had twenty levels of Sorcerer.
But it would speed things up, so we'll give 'er a shot with the AC.
