GM Tyranius |
The combined efforts drop the remaining goblins to the floor as they cease to move.
That was plenty to kill them both.
The "pot" of the dice game contains a pair of silver earrings a few gold and silver coins and a potion of some sorts.
Garret Grandhall |
Garret inspects the earrings Do they have a gem attached? before looking about at the rest of the room. perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
GM Tyranius |
Garret does not find a gem attached to the earrings. and finds little of interest in the rest of the room.
GM Tyranius |
Stergil finds little else of use as Adlartok scans the room looking for anything magical. The only aura she is able to find is that the potion is radiating a faint aura of magic.
Garret Grandhall |
Garret will pocket the goods from this room before pointing to the next chamber. "I suppose we're not done yet." He takes up his usual position near the centre of the party.
GM Tyranius |
Once the groupis done inspecting the chambers they continue down the small tunnel. This large chamber appears to be a natural cavern with small yellow crystals glittering in the walls. A level flagstone path clings to the western wall, but most of the room is an open chasm. Uneven columns of rock jut from the chamber's depths, matching the height of the flagstone floor to the north and south. Water streams down from the roof of the cave and pools 30 feet below around the bases of the rock columns. A rickety ladder lies on the edge of the cliff at the room's northern exit, along with torches and a barrel full of pitch.
The ladder is 12 foot long
Stergil Vryce, D.V.M. |
Based on the map, it looks like there might be a ledge on the western side of the chamber? Is that correct? Can we cross all the way (or most of the way) on this ledge?
GM Tyranius |
That Ledge only goes part of the way.
Where does Kawai leap to?
Garret Grandhall |
Anywhere she wants, with that roll.
Garret marvels at the cavern a moment before breaking out his rope and tying it off to one end of the ladder. He goes as far as he dares along the edge of the room before laying the ladder flat across to the nearest protrusion of rock. He steps on the ladder and shakes it to check stability before carefully crossing.
GM Tyranius |
Kawai jumps from column to column gracefully as padded feet strike the flagstone. He successfully makes it to the other side with no troubles as Garret lays the ladder across to the first platform. It seems stable.... enough.
Garret Grandhall |
Garret pauses a moment and then comes back to the barrel of pitch. He sticks the base of his axe into it. Is pitch viscous or sticky? I'm not familiar
GM Tyranius |
@Garret-basically it is tar. Very sticky
@Stergil- What do you wish to do climb down or jump across? It is a climb check to climb down or an acrobatics check to leap across.
Garret Grandhall |
Garret will grab a bit of the pitch and put it on the ends of the ladder to provide some extra cohesion before crossing. He takes his time to crawl across the ladder before lifting it and turning it to the next platform. taking 10 on acrobatics gives me a 10
GM Tyranius |
Garret lays the ladder down and the pitch seems to hold it in place quite well. He takes his time crawling across and makes it to the first platform with ease.
As soon as he stands he hears a small buzzing sound from behind him. Turning around slightly the half-orc sees three tiny insectoid creatures. each with a pair of bat wings, a tangle of thin legs and a needle sharp proboscis.
The creatures descend on Garret quickly. Knowledge Arcana to identify
Adlartok: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

I don't have k-arcana as a trained skill. Here is an intelligence check if that works instead. INT: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (14) - 2 = 12
Garret sees the unusual creatures descending on him. He pauses a moment to cast sanctuary on himself. DC 13 will save, or they can't attack me for a round He calls over to his allies from the pedestal. "There are some tiny creatures here. Like, evil looking mosquitoes. Can someone help me with them?"
GM Tyranius |
Need to have the skill unless it is like a Dc 10 common knowledge check which these are basically a 10. They are Stirges.
Red Will save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
Blue Will save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Yellow Will save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Two of the creatures seem to completely ignore Garrets spell as the yellow Stirge seems unable to get near the half-orc.
The two Stirges that get near Garret attempt to attach themselves to his side.
You get an AoO on one of them
Red Attach vs Garret AC 10: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Confirm Crit vs Garret AC 10: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Blue Attach vs Garret AC 10: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Both Stirges sink their razor sharp needle into Garret. The half-orc quickly feels himself growing weaker as they slowly fill up with blood.

GM Tyranius |
As the red Stirge comes close to Garret he slices it cleanly in two before it ever reaches him.
That negates the 2 con damage
Adlartok carefully slices an arrow through the stirge currently attached to Garret as Casthel finishes it off with a magic missile.

What a waste of a maximum damage roll
GM Tyranius |
@Hung Dong- Yes you can use the ledge to get to the second rock but the ledge will be treated as difficult terrain so double movement per square.
Stergil hurls a stone at the Stirge but misses it as the stone clatters among the yellow crystals below.
Garret's axe blade comes precariously close to the Stirge but it darts out of the path just in time to avoid it's wrath.

I will move you on the ledge since that was your last intent Hung Dong.
Hung Dong begins to move out onto the ledge as he makes his way towards Garret.
The Stirge once again tries to bite at the Half-Orc

Garret is infuriated by the annoying bugs. He swings his axe wildly about him. greataxe: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 31d12 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
GM Tyranius |
Stergil and Adlartok both let loose an onslaught of stone and arrow at the Stirge and it does not stand a chance against them. The Stirge collapses to the bottom of the small pit.
Combat Over
You know how to use the ladder to move from column to column so we don't need to post each movement action at this point.
Garret Grandhall |
After the last arrow is loosed and the stirge falls, Garret pauses a moment for his comrades to lower their weapons before breathing a sigh of relief. "Thank goodness you're such good shots." Garret continues the staggered movements across the columns, always sure to keep his rope tight. At the end of his journey, he sends the ladder back for the next person to come, waiting with Kawai. on the far side of the cavern. "What's in the bottom there anyways?" He wonders aloud.
Adlartok |
Adlartok cast detect magic to see if anything magical was in the cavern then began to look around for any stone able to fit in the door.
Take 20 in perception to look (for 28 in total)
Erastil protect His flock ! respond with a smile Adlartok to Garret's thanks.
GM Tyranius |
Adlartok sees that there are natural craystals at the bottom of the cavern of a deep yellow hue. One could possibly chip off a piece that would fit in the door?
Garret Grandhall |
Once everyone is across, Garret will come up to Stergil and attempt to pick him up, as though weighing him. "You're the lightest. Think we could lower you down and you could get a yellow crystal for the door?"
Casthel Molrin |
Overhearing Garret Casthel will think for a minute.
He may be the lightest but does he have the strength? Not many gnomes I know of are physically powerful. Perhaps I could weaken the crystal with acid to aid him.
