I don't know what there for. Janks just told me that we were going to help the Mistress break into her old home her in Absalom so she could retrieve some important family papers.
He didn't say, but I guess the Mistress didn't remember all the tricks her father set up years ago. Not really sure what they ran into down there.
Honest that's all i know.
You may sense motive if you like
Braoin |
His honesty is irrelevant - we can't let him spoil the element of surprise, even by accident. Turns to Carerris. Bind and gag him. If we are sucessful, we will free him upon our exit. If we are not, he will doubtless be freed by his compatriots when they do so. We will not be double crossed, and you may keep your pledge Kazbaz - no harm will come to him and he will be released after a minor delay.
Now let us make haste to stop the Mistress.
Carerris |
Carerris pulls her rope from her pack and begins to expertly hog tie the man. She also grabs an old sock she finds lying in the bedroom next door and stuffs it into the mans mouth to gag him. She leaves him on the floor in the middle of the room, grabbing any sharp objects in the room and placing them in her bag. Then, she follows Kazbaz down the ladder.
Chaosorbit |
Carerris hogs ties the man as she described. And then follows Kazbaz.
I'll assume all the others will follow unless you say otherwise
As Kazbaz descends the ladder he finds:
This small, stuffy square room was cut from the building’s stone foundation. The room’s east wall features a large stone mosaic that shows several faceless people worshipping at the top, and others being condemned at the bottom, with no figures in the middle pattern. The mosaic contains a set of three identical circular indentations: one set within the top section, one in the empty center, and another set within the bottom section. Illuminating the room are two lit torches in sconces on the north and south walls.
The mosaic is pictured below the map
Also, unless you have some magical means the trapdoor and ladder are too small and difficult for Mo the camel to traverse. So he will have to stand guard up top.
Chaosorbit |
While Braoin can not discern any door or opening. He does see religious significance in the mosaic the worshiper's on the top would seem material world, while the one's being condemned at the bottom seems to related to Asmodeus's realm of Hell. And of course it is widely know that Asmodeus is worshiped outright in Cheliax. The significance of the center section is not clear.
Chaosorbit |
Carerris notices three circular stone disks stacked neatly against the east wall by the mosaic. The stones represent a happy looking female
child, a grandiose city, and a brooding devil. The disks looked like they could be placed onto the mosaic.
Braoin |
Braoin nods as Carerris points the stones out.
Clearly the stones fit into the indentations. But what order? At first blush, I'd say the female at top, the city, and the evil at the bottom. Alternate hypotheses?
Chaosorbit |
As Braoin places the last disk in place. A clicking sound can be heard by everyone. A few seconds later the mosaic swings open, revealing a door way beyond. As the mosaic opens the 3 disks are spit out of the mosaic.
Beyond the doorway a spiral staircase leads down.
eskis |
Ok well that workz too I guezz eskis sheepishly murmurs.
[ooc] whos going to check for traps? [ooc]
Chaosorbit |
Heading down the stairs it opens into a large room, torches are lit in periodic sconces. The walls are thick, sturdy stone. This room is split by a long, ten-foot-wide stone walkway, extending sixty feet east to west between two spiral staircases. Two ladders rest on the north side of the walkway and two more on the south, leading down into a fifteen-foot-wide trench twenty feet below. These sub-rooms are filled with objects ranging from decrepit suits of rusted armor, to piles of rotting furs, and to various over-stuffed footlockers.
The spiral staircase on the far end of the hall is blocked by a closed metal portcullis.
Two ugly creatures further block the walkway; they are a roiling waves of flesh, amid a the fatty surge of wriggling half-formed limbs and a dripping tumorous face.

Carerris |
Carerris spys the creatures and is reminded of her long hours in the libraries reading of creatures such as these.
I think I recognize this type of nasty from my studies.
knowledge: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
+2 against magical beasts. Also, would a nature check be more beneficial than this knowledge check?
Chaosorbit |
Carerris studies the creature at first she thinks it's a particularly nasty type of ooze she's read about, but then realizes it isn't. She is not really sure what it is.
This requires knowledge: planes to identify
Benjen Harris |
Diminian studdies his target then fires at the creature that Kazbaz is not attacking
attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 211d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Chaosorbit |
Braoin does know these creatures very well. He knows that these are Lemures.
Evil outsiders, the least of devilkind from the plane of Hell. They likely could have only gotten here by being summoned by a magical spell of some kind. Braoin also knows a few more things about Lemures.
You may choose 2 things from the following list that you know about Lemures: Auras; Damage reduction; Immunities; Resistances; Spell Resistances; Defensive Abilities; Weaknesses; Special Attacks; Special Qualities possessed by the creature; unique Special Abilities.
Again pick 2
Also, which one is Braoin firing on?
Chaosorbit |
Braoin also knows the Lemures have a weakness to Good (as in good weapons or spells) and silver weapons; and that Lemures have no special attacks.
eskis |
I'll juzt hit 'em
moving 6 spaces into the other lane just behind kaz and shooting at the one directly ahead
attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 91d3 ⇒ 1
or not
Carerris |
Carerris bounds forward landing at the first set of ladders in front of Braoin. She readies her long bow and pictures her arrow splitting through the ooze and nastiness ahead.
attack: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 5 + 1 = 9
damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Hurah Carerris shouts as she releases the arrow. Then, upon seeing the mess she's made of her shot, Ughhhhhhh. Suck!
Chaosorbit |
I'm going to go ahead and act for Ms. Dresden. Perhaps eskis could give her a friendly reminder, I know she's very busy.
Braoin is the first to act and fires his crossbow at the creature on the right hand side. The bolt penetrates the gluttonous mass, and despite the fact that it was a very solid hit, it doesn't seem to damage the creature as much as Braoin expected.
Dresden is next to act, moving in the room she taps her quarterstaff on the ground, uttering some strange word. A burst of bright light flashes in the eyes of lemure on the right.
Cast flare
Fort save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Unfortunately, the creature seems to have had it's eyes closed right at the opportune moment.
Kazbaz then charges forward. Smashing the creature with his mace with a beautiful strike. Unfortunately, the blow doesn't do as much damage as the gnome would have expected.
These creatures seem hard to damage effectively.
Next in, eskis fires his shortbow but is off the mark. As is Carerris with her longbow.
Finally, Diminian takes time to study the target, takes care aim and fires an arrow in a very critical spot, however just as the arrow arrives the creature moves slightly and the arrow bounces off a particularly crusty area of the lemure to no effect.
The Lemure is front of Kazbaz lashes out with gnarly claws.
attack claw 1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
damage claw 1: 1d4 ⇒ 2
attack claw 2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
damage claw 2: 1d4 ⇒ 3
The other Lemure ambles up to eskis and attempts to claw him as well.
attack claw 1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
damage claw 1: 1d4 ⇒ 1
The lemures efforts are tremendously poor, none of the attacks comes close to hitting our heroes.

FYI - 2 things, first Mage Armor is range: touch. So you would have to move up to cast on Kazbaz. Second, it doesn't stack with other armor so it's not better than the +6 he gets from the armor he is wearing.
Feel free to change your action
