Marcel the Wise |
Finding a room for the night, Marcel runs an eye over his mental images of the Tin Man's armour; its hinges and creases and weaknesses. Drawing his switchblades, he practices for hours slicing his blades across the weak neck joint and then pirouetting away to avoid a following strike. With a thin smile, Marcel flicks the two knives up into the air, catches them behind his back and flicks them shut. "God help you, Tin Man" he mutters as he swings his pack onto his shoulders and walks out into the town.
Vincent "Scab" |
Scab retires to the apartment near the outskirts of town that he and his brother share. (I assume) It is there that he tinkers with his gun for hours on end, late into the night.
-the next day-
"Frank, come check THIS out, heh heh heh," Scab says, leading Frank outside town. Finding a crumbling husk of a pre-war house half a mile outside the fence, Scab takes aim with his plasma pistol and fires. The bolt of green energy hits the wall, prompting a huge explosion of fire twenty feet wide and ten feet tall. What was left of the structure burned to the ground.
Lilith Garndens |
After some time Lilith goes to work in the town selling some of the wares that she had acquired on her most recent exploration. A cigaret out of the corner of her mouth as she talks with some people. The more caps the better I can outfit myself for the next outing with these new people.
Profession Scavenger: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
The Nameless GM |
Marcel, what I meant was if you had a profession or a perform you may roll that and receive extra money at the end of a mission, like in PFS.
If you sold a Fat Man you would get half price for it. If you refer to the weapons guide in the Campaign Info section, you'll get 1/4 the caps listed. (all weapons are half price, selling for half gets you 1/4)
As soon as everyone has updated their character sheets, you hear tell of a new shop that has opened up in the Old Orleans Square.
The Square is the center of town, commerce, and most importantly, Faction Territories. Anyone from the Ghoul, Super Mutant, Brotherhood, or Human factions can visit without any worry for discrimination or combat.
The Square is also where the traders that scavenge the ruins of Louisiana come to show their wares. Naturally, people flock to success, and attempt to start their own stores and stands. Most of these go away pretty early on, but a few have stuck around. Most noted are McGrady's Bar and Grill, the Flint and Steel weapons shop, and Miss Kathy's Boutique.
This new shop has already started pretty high in business. After arriving, the name of the shop is A&A Mechanics. People are outside, waiting for it to open. A mechanic is something Old Orleans hasn't had in years. When it opens, you hear the familiar voice of Andy welcoming people into the shop.
Andy and Adam will now be a shop. They sell scrap parts, housing accessories, and a few odds and ends here and there. They also will repair up to 5 points of jam for free due to you guys helping him get to where he is.
Marcel the Wise |
Marcel sets up shop in the Square, finding a handy corner in sight of the Brotherhood; no need to get attacked by some idiot. He lays out some items for sale.
10m pistol- 50 caps
2x Scrap Metal- ? caps
2x Scrap Electronics- ? caps
Hunting Rifle- 125 caps
Vault Armour- 87 caps (it has 12 DR, Leather armour has 24 so I halved L. Armour price)
Vault Jumpsuit- 30 caps
Total caps received for selling: 265
The Nameless GM |
@Marcel The Vault Security armor is worth 100 caps in perfect condition. The ones you found were only slightly worn, and at half price, you manage to get 50 caps for them.
The Scrap Metal and Scrap Electronics are worth 1 cap wholesale, so selling all 4 gets you 2 caps.
The Vault Jumpsuit sells for 3 caps.
In total, you made 230 caps.
Sorry for ruining your spending spree.
The Nameless GM |
@Marcel Anything can be bought in the Square. McGrady's will get you food, Flint and Steel is weapons from the extra page for prices, and Miss Kathy's is clothing/armor using the Wiki for prices. And yes, I'll do something involving Mister Sandman.
Adam stands up from the counter, his shoulder in a few wraps from the Brotherhood. He's made some modifications to his vault jumpsuit, armoring it and applying pouches here and there. "Hey Max. Good to see you. It's doing fine for now. Come with me to the back room. Andy, take over the store."
"Yes, master." Adam leads Max into the back room. The back room is full of miscellaneous parts, junk, and the occasional robot piece.
After checking seeing that his shoulder is fine and just needs to heal on its own, Adam gets his suit back on. "Oh, I just wanted to let you know something." Reaching into a cabinet, he pulls out 12 railroad spikes. "I found a way to turn pieces of scrap metal into refined metal, then from that into railroad spikes. I know your Paladin friend would like this. Here, take this to him. If you find any more scrap metal in the Marshes, let me know."
Adam will now make railroad spikes out of scrap metal. It takes two days to refine and reforge scrap metal into railroad spikes. The exchange rate is 1:6. One scrap metal for 6 railroad spikes.
Knight-Brother Edward Monroe |
Edward will hold onto all the food items he acquired.
After a brief period of reflection, he wanders through town and checks out the wares available.
Will have list of everything he is going to try to sell later today.
"I wonder what the others I met in the Vault are up to?" he thinks, before heading into town.
Vincent "Scab" |
"Hey brother, I think I am gonna go check out the market before it closes and then dip by the bar. You should come with."
keeping my items as-is for now
Vincent "Scab" |
"oh i see how it is, heh. I will see you there."
Scab peruses the market, not buying or selling anything, then proceeds to the bar where they were looking for help finding something
Max Logan |
After giving Adam his exam, Max chats with Andy for a bit about his medical protocols before bidding both a good evening and heading out for some dinner. Being able to sanatize food has made Max one of the more popular scribes in the order. Being generous, Max is never one to avoid stopping past a local restaurant to ensure the quality of the food being served is up to snuff. Plus, free food never hurts either.
The Nameless GM |
McGrady's is run by an elderly African American man with graying hair, a slight goatee, and a passion for making sure everyone else is a little better off than when they arrived by the name of Zatarain.
I'm gonna get a ton of flak for this. Imagine an old African American man speaking with a Cajan French accent.
"Ah, Lilith! One of my's favorite scavangers. As a matter a' fact, I is."
"I's managed to get my hand on a pre-war recipe for something called 'Gumbo.' I's been testing flavors and I cain't seem to find the right flavor. I's tried radroach, molerat, even tried some bloatfly meat. None a it tasted right.
"Then, I's had a epiphany. I looked the recipe over again, and it asked for crab meat. A course, crabs is long gone, but mirelurks is going on long and strong. I's had it before, and it was mighty fine tasting.
"I's looking for someone to go out and get mes some mirelurk meat. I'll pay 20 caps for e'ry pound I get. How's that sound?"
Zatarain leans forward, waiting for Lilith's response.
To get the meat off a Mirelurk, you'll need to make a DC 15 Survival roll or Scavenge. A Knowledge local can tell you where the nearest Mirelurks are, as well as something else about Zatarain.
Marcel the Wise |
Knowledge local:1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Marcel nods thoughtfully. "I've shelled a few mirelurks in my time; meat always tasted like brahmin dung to me, but maybe cooked up it'll be better. I'd be happy to help out."
Sense Motive to see if Zatarain's trying to kill us or anything.1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Vincent "Scab" |
"Oh, gumbo is quite good. Never knew how to make it myself though. No need, when you could go anywhere in town to get some good gumbo. Back in the day, of course."
The Nameless GM |
Both knowledge rolls don't tell you anything. Mirelurks live in swamps, and you're surrounded by swamps.
Zatarain isn't trying to kill you. If you die, it's not his fault. You accepted the mission, remember?
"Ha ha! Tre magnifique! I's get the pot going. You'll bring it back here as soon as you can, yeah?"
Quest: An Acquired Taste
Bring back Mirelurk meat for Zatarain.
Knight-Brother Edward Monroe |
Edward sells the following, assuming he can find a buyer for them:
3 Kitchen Knives
12 Scrap Electronics (preferably to Adam & Andy)
3 Fission Batteries
2 Abraxo Cleaner
1 Set of Parts/Tools (preferably to Adam & Andy)
1 10mm Pistol
Would like to trade for:
10mm ammo
5.56 ammo
Railroad Spikes Once I hear from Logan or Andy, this is not so much a concern
After selling the spoils from the Vault (sans food & water), Edward swings by Adam & Andy's new place to say hi.
"How are you holding up, Adam? Shoulder doing ok?"
Once that conversation concludes, he heads to the tavern for a refreshing beverage and some company.
Entering just after the others agree to obtain mirelurk meat, Edward greets everyone. "Hello all. What's this about another mission? You heading out to fetch back some mirelurk meat? Count me in."
He hefts his railway rifle with an eager gleam to his eye.
"I've been itching to try this bad boy out."
The Nameless GM |
Scab only knows as much as Lilith knows, which isn't much...
"If youse need a hand, I know where there be some Mirelurks. I haven't had time to do it m'self since I's opened the store. I would, but I'm not as youngblooded as I was. I know's there's a large group of them out by the old water treatment plant west of O'Leans. That place would be the best to find them. Be careful though, they's breedin' there too."
Zatarain hears another customer. "I's needin' to get to other customers. Bring back that meat, ya hear?" And with that, Zatarain leaves you to your business.
True to Fallout, you don't have to do this mission now. There is a story here in Old Orleans, but this is a side mission.
Knight-Brother Edward Monroe |
"While I have everyone's attention, I would like to bring up a possibility. Seeing as how we all have rather unique talents, and were able to work successfully together in the Vault, what would you say to forming a company together?
We could establish ourselves as 'for-hire' trouble shooters and prospectors, and manage to turn a tidy profit while doing good for the citizens of the city.
I am currently without assignment, and barring re-assignment to a non-travelling position, I believe this falls well within my jurisdiction and purview as a Knight-Brother.
Mutual defense, mutual profit, maximum safety while we explore and pacify this lands? Sounds like a good idea to me."
Vincent "Scab" |
"Sounds good to me. Then i will be somewhat more safe while i field-test my weapons."
Marcel the Wise |
"Hmm..." Marcel strokes his beard thoughtfully. "Groups do always work best out in the wastes; I've found too many single skeletons out there. Never found one in power armour, though... I accept, sir. May this venture prove mutually profitable."
Vincent "Scab" |
"Hmmm... Tin Man... Anvil... hmmm, can't think of anything at the moment. I am hungry. Beans...." Scab trails off, before ordering some food
The Nameless GM |
How about Eddie? And is Lilith gonna get a nickname too?
Outside the bar you hear the sound of gunfire and a guy yelling in pain.
"Some po'boy just tried to steal the wrong pile a caps," Zatarain comments as he hears the gunfire.
In Old Orleans, Snipers are posted on the rooftops and in lookouts across the city. Anything that would be considered a crime is met with a swift gunshot. Surprisingly, crime rates are very low in the city.
Knight-Brother Edward Monroe |
"Knight-Brother is my title. If you prefer to call me Edward, or some other shortened form, that is fine. I was under the impression that "Crispy" and "Scab" were your names."
Hearing the gunshots ring out, Edward turns towards the door. "I should check this out, make sure everything is OK. Anyone interested in coming with?"
With that, he heads out towards the cry of pain.
Vincent "Scab" |
Scab will look out the door at the commotion, but doubts there is any need for him to add to the fracas
