Night Upon the Realm (Inactive)

For thousands of years I have slept beneath the earth, my mind confined to this hellish prison and my body shaped into this immobile form. Meanwhile, the world above me carries on and history comes and goes. But I sense them... the restless... the angry... the embittered... I share in their suffering and they partake of my own. Soon... soon, I will be free.

Night Upon the Realms
Night Upon the Realms is a Player versus Player Campaign, involving two teams. One side is composed of the Heroes of the Realm, and they are the devout defenders of the Realm. The other side plays the Fallen. These players form a dark army of risen undead intent on claiming the Realm for their own.

Both sides will fight to complete their own chosen objectives.
That's right. This entire campaign bases itself off your own choices. You are in charge of these two forces, and it is through your actions that we will see one side emerge victorious.

Character Submission

10th level characters
20 point buy
Cleric's can choose any 2 Domains.
Material may be taken from any official Paizo published book.
EDIT: Assume ordinary WBL. You may NOT craft items before character creation to keep it fair. Once the game begins, everything's fair game.

Each character must choose whether they will be part of the Heroes or the Fallen.

Heroes must be good, Fallen must be evil

Heroes can be Human, Elf, Dwarf, Gnome, Halfling or Half-Elf

Fallen can any of the above races but your type changes to Undead.

What Will This Campaign Entail?
The Heroes will first be allowed to construct their own settlements, as they are the ones in control of the regions of the Realm. As well, they will need to defend their lands from the Fallen onslaught.

Both teams will be able to design NPCs that battle for them on the frontlines of battle.

The Fallen will be able to perform assaults on the Heroes' settlements, create devastating weapons, perform dark rituals and plan the massacre of all living things.

Questions?
Please post them below or PM me.

Total # of Characters
We go until recruitment slows down. If the Teams are unequal, we'll have to either make switches or I'll need to make a selection. Feel free to make a Hero/Fallen character if you want more chances.

I'm going to assume standard WBL. I'll make up a Fallen character soon.

Berenzen wrote:

Yup, I've updated the above post.

As well, the Leadership feat cannot be taken.

I like the concept. I think I will submit Lord Cobbledarn Meadowlark, heroic paladin of the realm. Let me know if you don't like spoilers and if any other changes are warranted.

Btw - this is a character from a previous game that never got off the ground. You can reference some of his dialogue/play style for that game on his posts tab.

I'm working on a Fallen character now. A human synthesist summoner, inspired by Venom from spider man.

Alright, so that's 2 Fallen and 1 Hero.

Going to leave the recruitment keep going for now while I check up on the characters that are made.

Shadow Lodge

Dotting for...oh, let's say a hero sorcerer.

EDIT: if I may ask, how will we be building the Realm?

So right now we have 2 Hero/ 2 Fallen.

I've updated the Campaign Info with some of the more basic rulings.

Sweet, put me down for a fallen. I'll have the character soon.

The Exchange

I was hoping a PvP PbP would emerge eventually. That is, assuming this is PbP. I'm not exactly a veteran of all things pathfinder, so I'd rather hop on the heroes side, mostly to avoid having to work out everything it means to be undead (like, apply a template? do I drink unholy water? do I pee unholy water? do I drink or pee at all?).

Also, pardon my ignorance, but what is "WBL"?

Dotting for hero side. Thinking a Cavalier Human. Will work on the fella and get him up soon.

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

WBL= wealth by level

WBL = Wealth by Level, it's the expected wealth you should have.

PvP = This is indeed player versus player. If two players enter the same place as the other, battle will most likely ensue.

PbP = This is PbP. Not Skype, not chat. PbP.

Undead= Simply change your type to undead. You keep your subtype. This means you are treated as undead for all intents and purposes. So simply make an ordinary character but you're an undead so you have the following traits. (Ignore the parts before Traits)

Undead Traits

So now he have 4 Hero/3 Fallen.

The Exchange

So, how does one calculate WBL?

Also, any class restrictions? How common are guns?

Finally, traits? No traits? Standard 2? Generous 4?

Edit: Dang, undead get all that? Sucks to be a hero right now...

As 10th level characters you get 62,000 gp.

No class restrictions save alignment restrictions by faction.

2 Traits from any source. If a trait requires a regional homeland, you may ignore this restriction.

And as undead, they have their own weaknesses as well. Paladin's smites, Cleric's channel, ranger favored enemy undead, etc.

Undeads will play to their strengths, Heroes to theirs.

EDIT: Remember, the Heroes also have the upper hand at the start of the campaign as they control the entire Realm except for the undead region known as the Gravelands.

62,000 GP for a level 10 character, D-Kai.

Updated the Campaign Info with the seven regions.

with no con score--how do you spend the 20 points? assume 0 points put into con for a 10? or can we put it to 7 for a neg 4 points? or take the neg points to take it to zero?

You assume 0 points are put into it and put the 20 points somewhere else. My character has this. You can't take points out because there is nothing to take out of there, so you can't dump Con to get bonuses elsewhere.

(This is berenzen with his Anti-Paladin posting)

You put 0 points in as you have no Constitution score. Being undead is awesome enough.

So Zorek was right.

Ooh, this sounds quite fun... Dotting for interest. I think perhaps a Fallen... I'll see what I can come up with.

4 Hero/4 Fallen? So far so good!

Silver Crusade

If still recruiting, I might try a hero cleric or oracle. Have some ideas on it that need fleshed out abit.

Will have character up tomorrow.

I'm working a cleric at the moment. Do as you please, but an oracle might be cooler than 2 clerics on a team.

Also, if I can really sway your hand, a ranger might be a good way to go.

Ah, didn't see that. The concept was still in infancy anyway. Might look at ranger, or maybe Inquisitor. Haven't tried one yet.

Well I didn't say it. But I was hoping you'd still yield it to me since I already started it.

An inquisitor would be a good choice. I'd recommend repose domain if you go that route.

Yeah I'm kinda sad right now because the Life Drinker was out of budget, I really wanted to be a whirling machine of death by negative levels.

Yield? YIELD?! YIELD?!?!

I SHALL NEVER YIELD!

But an Inquisitor could be fun, so instead of yielding, I might just try that out instead ;p

What do the good characters get to compensate for the Undead Traits? Being "immediately destroyed at zero HP" seems the only negative (mechanics-wise).

Otherwise stacked with immunities. Not complaining, just looking for equity.

Basically:

Same Character... switched from Good to Evil is equal (without any undead traits).

Berenzen wrote:

Save up for it!

As to everyone else, recruitment is still going until you see a large post saying we're done.

You guys can blast them apart with clerics and paladins.

The Heroes begin with 6 out of the 7 provinces (regions, I use both words interchangeably).

And yes, undead are a broader category and can therefore be chosen as favored enemies and other such abilities.

And yes, the Fallen have the advantage of being stronger. The Heroes have the advantage of knowing their enemies are undead.

Do the fallen have to be undead? Not that it would affect me that much, but I'd rather not be.

Couldn't they blast the Heroes with evil undead Clerics & Anti-Paladin? Negative energy channeling... Boom shakka-lakka!

DM Jelani wrote:

Is there a particular reason? It's pretty much only giving you benefits and flavorwise, the Heroes are being assaulted by an undead horde.

@Hassan: Yes. But remember, Heroes have much more defenses at the beginning. The enemy is stronger than you characterwise, but you have the upper hand for the moment.

another random thought, with regards to the fallen, if your class would provide you with a mount, companion, or familiar, is it also undead?

Hmm...

I could be up for making a Fallen, but I need to finish off a few other characters first, so I am not sure when I'll get around to building this one. Shouldn't be too far off.

EntropyRules wrote:

Yes.

Shadow Lodge

Heroes, check your PM boxes!

Also, the way this is set up, it sounds like either the Heroes have to win in the first few "rounds" or else it'll be a long, slow, grind to the inevitable Fallen conquest. Not that this is a bad thing, because the long, slow, stamping out of good in the world can be very interesting to NP, but if that's the intended premise, it'd be nice if it were acknowledged.

Oooh and the subterfuge begins.

On the subject of guns and firearms: We'll go with emerging.

Because I want my con score...and undead have too many weaknesses. Can I just get the undead appearance evolution for my eidolon for free instead?

DM Jelani wrote:

Too many weaknesses? I just had to explain why the undead aren't "OMG so OP!!!"

I personally would very much like you all the Fallen to be undead...

Hmm...

I guess I could allow you to take the undead appearance evolution... but actually, after reading it over I'm actually going to do the following.

ATTENTION ALL FALLEN!

In balance issues, and I'm sorry this comes in retrospect, please do not simply apply the undead type.

Instead, you have the following subtype (fallen):

A fallen appears as an undead creature, and mimics some of an undead creature’s abilities and weaknesses. Negative energy heals the fallen, and positive energy (including a cleric’s channel energy ability) harms it. Spells and effects that target undead or have specific effects against undead (such as Command Undead, hold (halt?) undead, and searing light) affect the fallen as if it were undead. The fallen gains a +2 bonus on saves against disease, exhaustion, fatigue, paralysis, poison, sleep effects, and stunning.

I believe this will be more fair to both sides.

Thank you to DM Jelani for sparking this idea.

Well yeah, normally they would be so OP. But not against a team of enemy PCs who knows ahead of time that we're all undead. They could just prepare accordingly and we'll be f'ed. Your solution is fine I suppose. Finishing up my character now, I'll have him posted in the next hour or so.

PMed my character to you Voice of Darkness.

Damn, I was looking forward to having a 104 HP antipaladin. I'm gonna have to completely rebuild here.

How so? The Consitution score I imagine?

I apologize for any troubles this has caused.

As well, I'd like to suggest PMing character sheet/alias links to me and not on the board until all characters are finished.
