Thanks for all the added information on scrolls and borrowed spellbooks GM Mort - if I do this:
- Memorize Read Magic;
- Cast it as needed to decipher all the spells in the new Spellbook;
Will I be able to prepare them from that book from here onwards, only with the Spellcraft check?
On the spellcraft check to prepare the spell, and since my bonus is +6, I auto succeed for spells level 1, correct?
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Now, gear considerations with loot share = +997,48gp.
--Keeping from what we found--
- Longsword +1
- Spellbok with cause fear, enlarge person, expeditious retreat, false life, levitate, mage armor, magic missile, ray of enfeeblement and all the wizard cantrips
--Selling (assuming 50% selling price)--
morningstar = +4 gold
Rope = +5 silver
--Buying--
MW Cold Iron Morningstar = -316 gold
air crystal = -50 gold
antiplague = -50 gold
bladeguard = -40 gold
vermin repellent x4 = -20 gold
bandolier x2 = -1 gold
Silk rope = -10 gold
smoked goggles = -10 gold
waterskin = -1 gold
Wrist sheath (spring loaded) x2 = -10 gold
Scroll Case x3 = -3 gold
Scroll of Monkey Fish x2 = -50 gold
Scroll of Enlarge Person x2 = -50 gold
Scroll of Floating Disk x2 = -50 gold
Scroll of Infernal Healing x2 = -50 gold
Scroll of Keep Watch x3 = -75 gold
Scroll of Mount x2 = -50 gold
Which leaves me at 175,98 gold and sad because there is no possible armor upgrade...
(I can cast the spells without any issue if they are on the Magus list, correct?)

GM Mort |

Correct on reading and preparing from others spell books. Take 10 Spellcraft is allowed since it's not an in combat check.
After spellbook is taken out of loot to be sold, the lootshare per person drops by 15gp. To 982.47 gp.
50% selling price is correct.
Infernal healing arrrghhhh!
Just note that in my games,due to a long time ago squabble in a Reign of Winter which resulted in animate dead and trap the soul being banned, there are mild alignment infractions for casting spells with the "Evil" descriptor. 100 Casts and your alignment shifts one step towards the dark side.
When you stare into the abyss, the abyss stares back at you - Friedrich Nietzsche.
I think if I were you I would scribe one scroll of keep watch into your spellbook.
You can prepare and cast spells from that spellbook as long as they are on magus spell list.

Hedran |

Ok, I have no issues with your ruling on Infernal Healing - it is not something I am planning on using frequently (Wow... long debate there).
Why scribe one scroll of Keep Watch in the spellbook? Because it is useful? :D
And my question regarding the casting of spells was more geared toward the scrolls actually, and if I can cast from them without any issue if they are in the Magus spell list :)

In that case:
- In the morning of the day when we are having lunch at Gedran's, I can go through the 'Read Magic' process with the new spellbook, correct? And decipher all the 'Arcane Magical Writings' in it?
- My final gold amount will change to 170,98 gold (minus the cost of the wine as per Gameplay post :D).

Tell me about it, Hedran. My ears flattened listening to all that.
Keep watch may be something you want to keep up everyday. You can go ahead and read magic process the spellbook and decipher your arcane magical writings in it.
Any scroll that is on the Magus spell list, or has curse descriptor that is 6th level and below, you can cast. If it’s higher level then what you can cast now, caster level check successfully, you can still do it.
Ratel you don't have to roll d100 to see if item is available. This is prequel so I'm hand waving it.

I have so few slots... But yeah, I think I am going to do that. I can do it automatically by spending an hour, correct? Assuming I have Read Magic for the day.
And thanks for yet another clarification on scrolls this time :D

GM Mort |

1h is maximum time.
After resting, a wizard must study his spellbook to prepare any spells that day. If he wants to prepare all his spells, the process takes 1 hour. Preparing some smaller portion of his daily capacity takes a proportionally smaller amount of time, but always at least 15 minutes, the minimum time required to achieve the proper mental state."

Actually I meant if I could automatically scribe it to my spellbook :D

GM Mort |

Yes you may do it, but each spell will require time. So Hedran is sitting in the house like a studious half orc when everyone is having fun at the carnival?=P

Azmythe will donate 200 gold to the shrine, replacing their donation so they can help others. He'll return Ryna's 7 gp, "You have to work on your math. You gave more than you thought." He'll purchase a holy symbol for Pharasma, a scroll of celestial healing, and some "personal medicinal supplements".
Shrine donation 200gp
Return Ryna's donation 7gp
Wooden Holy Symbol 1gp
Medicinal Supplements 120gp
Scroll of Celestial Healing 50gp
Holy Water x4 100gp
Gift to Revived 20gp
Take 10 on Spellcraft to teach spell to Enoch.

GM Mort |

GM Mort |

Azmythe uh...do you sleep?
This is what Paizo has to say on alcohol and I know someone's complained that he should be able to drink more then 6 bottles of Mead without any problems...

![]() |

I work third shift and have things to do during the day so, yes but not for long.
I fully understand that the company wants to discourage certain activities, but the rules make it so that Azmythe will quickly become addicted to something, unless his 'drug' of choice is alcohol, which is not what I want.
Anyway, this is a special occasion and thus the Flayleaf is appropriate, but for more regular use, Azmythe will just go with a flavored or scented tobacco product or at least something 'milder'.

GM Mort |

Actually I was trying to find the pathfinder equivalent of marijuana that would not be too harsh on brand new characters. My first thought was pesh but the addiction fort roll is fking high.
I don’t have an issue if you want to get yourself stoned or anything, but because of my lawful nature…I have to follow what’s written in the book, when it comes to bonuses and penalties.
I try not to homebrew too much since I’m not sure if what I came up with would be fair.
I'm actually rather new to the hobby..I mean most of you have been playing/GMing for decades, and I'm maybe about 6-7 years in the hobby or so?

Ratel Dier |

Decades, wow, sadly I took a hiatus from 82 to 14 so I'm only around 5 years as well. Can't Azmythe smoke a generic 'pipe weed'? of questionable origin?

GM Mort |

Or if you want to homebrew your own drugs…go and write down what they do, I’ll check over for balance.
I sort of have a compulsive urge to measure and record everything.
I may drop off radar as I am collecting my replacement phone during lunch.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

since Azmythe is a hedge witch can't he grow his own plants?
ooohhhh, I had the 'black box' with the Traveller books, played that along with AD&D my first couple years of college. 80-82

GM Mort |

Singapore's drug laws being what they are, marijuana is an offense here so I've never done it.

GM Mort |

I haven't seen Nigel show up on the carnival games and Robert indicated there were others he wanted to try so I'd probably leave it at the fun fair for now, anyway I'm out with my BF later.

GM Mort |

Ah well. Was hoping you'd just chillax and enjoy the fun and games.
Ratel - you interested in goat cart racing later? Anyway once I get back home I'll probably prepare the prequel wrap up and start on Ironfang Invasion proper.

Ratel Dier |

Not really interested in the goat cart racing, if anyone else is competing then he would watch, but, not riding the cart himself. He's had enough of goats and their carts...
edit: at some point in time Ratel needs to make more mutagen

GM Mort |

OK, I'll prepare the cut scene accordingly. Geran and Victor will do the goat cart thing.

GM Mort |

Me thinks Robert is not at work today so he’s not on his laptop.
Anyway last night my BF and I went to watch Christopher Robins. It’s a very heartwarming show, and honestly far more worth the money then Skyscraper. More often then not we’re all too busy with the daily rush that we forget what is truly important to us – friends and family.
My BF went a step further and said that each Winnie-the-pooh character was a reflection of a fragment of Chistopher Robin’s personality. Winnie-the-pooh was his lost innocence, piglet – the timid side of him, tigger – his adventurous spirit, eyore – the cynical side of him. And that that hundred ache woods was a reflection of his state of mind. It was stormy and windy because he was troubled.
Ah well, he’s always been more of the soapy sap, not me! But I do agree with his analysis, this time.
Anyway I'll probably start moving stuff tomorrow morning for me.

Ratel Dier |

At work tonight, usually tues - sat these days, but Paizo's site has been hit and miss.
Not a lot of spoilers there, you didn't even talk about CR coming down with brain cancer and him imagining it all... not what happens, honest
I like you boyfriends assessment. I would think that even kanga and roo would fit in there also. Not as much rabbit, owl and badger. I think they're supposed to be 'woodland animals'
Tomorrow morning for me? Isn't that now?
LOL, I just realize you may be talking about Robert the character not Robert the player. Anyway...

GM Mort |

Nah it's noon today for me lol. Hiatus for another 20h or so. Unless I stay up late enough to catch Robert as soon as he logs on, which is highly unlikely.
Come on, guys, you know we can make up for the lost time and we aren't like on a PBP game day schedule where we need to finish by a certain date.
Agree on paizo being a hit and miss thing, but I've been tracking John on FAWTL.
Owl - his wisdom?
Anyway if you like mindscrews, try inception. Did the prontagonist get out or not?

GM Mort |

Standard of KFC grilled chicken is dropping. They're not leaving it on the grill long enough.

Ratel Dier |

Yikes, chicken not on the grill long enough, good way to get food poisoning.
So the 'natural animals' may reflect part of him also. I always thought Rabbit, owl and badger weren't stuffed animals, but I thought of them as animals there in the woods, which he included in his 'imagination.' But there's no reason that they not be part of his subconscious.
But couldn't you say the same thing about any character an author writes about?

![]() |

No the chicken was cooked. It wasn't just charred enough. Therefore no char flavor and one sad me.
I believe the outlet keeps the already cooked chicken, they just grill it and add extra sauce over when you order.
Sometimes characters authors write about are shout outs or Expys of other characters, sometimes they are things that the author wished he could be, or yes fragments of their personality.
Like I was drawing heavily on Kai from Kung Fu Panda for Asars dialogue.

Ratel Dier |

ah, not enough char,
Usually that type of thing is set on a timer, with the grill at a certain temperature and using a grill press. It's possible of one of those things is 'off' it would effect the 'char.' Of course they may have changed the 'recipe' as well.
So sad, I have not seen 'Kung Fu Panda 3'

Hedran |

Inception is one of my favorite movies ever.
And one definitely draws from... Everything really! Comics from my childhood (and comics from my adulthood), movies, books, series, memories, games I used to make up as a kid, other RPG games/sessions/campaigns, you name it :D
(Site is acting up for me - one thing I don't really get is the fact the Paizo website probably being hosted in the US, how come maintenance is carried out middle of the day? :O)
