Male Human Bard (archaeologist) /1 l AC 15 T 13 FF 12 l HP 8/8 l F +0 R +5 W +2 l Init +3 l Perc +5

"It's a spell of suffocation!" Bennevy says as he moves towards the aura and grabs for Rosewood.

Assuming he is able to find and make contact with him, Bennevy tries to figure out if he can do anything to save him.

Bardic Knowledge: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20

Did my successful identification of the spell also reveal how to counteract the effects or stop the magic.?

Female Tiefling Ninja 1

"I don't know much about magic"

"I will watch the door

Kiriko moves to a position where she is hidden and has a good few of the door and the corridor.

Male Halfling Ninja 2 HP:19/19 AC:18 Fort:1, Reflex:7/8 traps, Will:-1, +2 vs Fear, Init: +4, Per: +6, Stealth +12

He is right here. Tomid says, trying to be helpful.

Male Human Bard (archaeologist) /1 l AC 15 T 13 FF 12 l HP 8/8 l F +0 R +5 W +2 l Init +3 l Perc +5

Not sure of what else to do, Bennevy feels around until he makes contact with Rosewood. Assuming he locates him, he calls upon the magic of life to oppose the magic of death.

Cure light Wounds: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

Male Human (alternate racial trait: versatile human) Oracle (Lore) 2 - hp 23/23, AC 17 -Fort +2 Reflex +3 Will +3, Perc +6, Init +0, Atk Morning star +4, 1d8+3, Spells slots: 6/5

Spellcraft: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
"Suffocation? Healing him should help, and increasing his resistance to magic should do the trick too."

Sid grope in the area where he has heard Rosewood to find him.
touch attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
50% chance to hit (from 1 to 50): 1d100 ⇒ 13

I think I have found him

Then he cast Cure Light Wounds.
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

"Bennevy, you have something that can boost his resistance to magic?"

Bennevy

Spoiler:
You know that while this spell is powerful it only lasts for 3 rounds, it can quickly kill a creature afflicted but healing them during the spell will prevent death

Sid

Spoiler:
Suffocation does require multiple fort saves, and has a short duration, so boosting his fort save would help

Male Human Bard (archaeologist) /1 l AC 15 T 13 FF 12 l HP 8/8 l F +0 R +5 W +2 l Init +3 l Perc +5

(Did Sid or I reach him in time?)

Dark Archive

male wraith biomedical scientist lv5/ film director lv3

Yes you did

Male Human (alternate racial trait: versatile human) Oracle (Lore) 2 - hp 23/23, AC 17 -Fort +2 Reflex +3 Will +3, Perc +6, Init +0, Atk Morning star +4, 1d8+3, Spells slots: 6/5

Recalling that the spell last for a few rounds Sid keep his grip on Rosewood and cast his cure spell after a few seconds.

"There is something very strange here. I think that that spell require to see the target. Even if this beast can see an invisible creature hasn't cast a spell. It hadn't the time. Look around for an invisible opponent."

Dark Archive

Alright everyone make a perception check

Male Human (alternate racial trait: versatile human) Oracle (Lore) 2 - hp 23/23, AC 17 -Fort +2 Reflex +3 Will +3, Perc +6, Init +0, Atk Morning star +4, 1d8+3, Spells slots: 6/5

Sid look around while keeping his grip on Rosewood:

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

His preoccupation about the condition of his employer made him unable to focus on the area around him.

Female Tiefling Ninja 1

Kiriko tries to locate the attacker with all her senses.

unfortunately neither Sid nor Kiriko see anything that may lead to a clue as to what happened

Male Human Bard (archaeologist) /1 l AC 15 T 13 FF 12 l HP 8/8 l F +0 R +5 W +2 l Init +3 l Perc +5

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24

Much calmer, now that Rosewood is no longer suffocating. Bennevy concentrates on searching the area for a hidden threat.

Male Halfling Ninja 2 HP:19/19 AC:18 Fort:1, Reflex:7/8 traps, Will:-1, +2 vs Fear, Init: +4, Per: +6, Stealth +12

Timid remains fairly perceptive and should have a hand on the small lord by now.

Bennevy and Tomid

Spoiler:
Almost simultaneously as you scan the room, not far off where Lord Rosewood should be standing, you spot a small medallion, it is made of obsidian and has gold melted on it to make a central skull shape and 8 arrows evenly spread coming of the skull to the rim in a compass like shape. You are sure this medallion wasn't there before when you first entered the carriage

Male Human Bard (archaeologist) /1 l AC 15 T 13 FF 12 l HP 8/8 l F +0 R +5 W +2 l Init +3 l Perc +5

Bennevy's eyes lock-in on the object. "What is that?" he says in a tone of cautious curiosity.

Moving away from where the prone, still invisible (I presume) Lord Rosewood. He kneels next to the object and stretches his hand out towards it, but does not touch it. (casting detect magic).

If there are any auras, he tries to read and make sense of them. Whether the object is magical or not, he does his best to try and make sense of the symbology.

(Let me know what rolls are appropriate in this situation.)

Dark Archive

male wraith biomedical scientist lv5/ film director lv3

Lord Rosewood is still invisible
Bennevy

Spoiler:
amulet is magical, there is a strong necromancy aura and a faint conjuration aura to it. As for symbology roll a knowledge history check

Dark Archive

Bennevy

Spoiler:
This symbol has never been officially used by anyone but through out history it has appeared when people disappear and has on many occasions appeared just before great natural disasters hit, some have theorised that this symbol is tied to the earliest times, before the kings, as much of the knowledge from that time has been lost

Male Human Bard (archaeologist) /1 l AC 15 T 13 FF 12 l HP 8/8 l F +0 R +5 W +2 l Init +3 l Perc +5

GM Ulgu:

Is there a name for the symbol? What is it called in written accounts of it?

Dark Archive

Bennevy

Spoiler:
Its called "The Face of the Defiant" but it has also been described as "The King's Shadow" and "Skull of the End"

Male Halfling Ninja 2 HP:19/19 AC:18 Fort:1, Reflex:7/8 traps, Will:-1, +2 vs Fear, Init: +4, Per: +6, Stealth +12

Yes

Male Halfling Ninja 2 HP:19/19 AC:18 Fort:1, Reflex:7/8 traps, Will:-1, +2 vs Fear, Init: +4, Per: +6, Stealth +12

Rosewood! Are you ok or not? End this invisibility if you can as it hinders our ability to help you more than it helps.

Male Human Bard (archaeologist) /1 l AC 15 T 13 FF 12 l HP 8/8 l F +0 R +5 W +2 l Init +3 l Perc +5

"It's a King's Shadow," Bennevy replies in an ominous tone. "It supposedly only appears in times preceding great disasters or the sudden disappearance of important people. I don't recommend we touch it with bare hands."

Male Human (alternate racial trait: versatile human) Oracle (Lore) 2 - hp 23/23, AC 17 -Fort +2 Reflex +3 Will +3, Perc +6, Init +0, Atk Morning star +4, 1d8+3, Spells slots: 6/5

Sid

Spoiler:
You can't really recall anything beyond what Bennevy said to you

Male Human Bard (archaeologist) /1 l AC 15 T 13 FF 12 l HP 8/8 l F +0 R +5 W +2 l Init +3 l Perc +5

Bennevy rummages through the luggage for a piece of cloth, or a small bag or container. Assuming he finds something serviceable, he uses it to pick up the King's Shadow and wrap it. He then places it in his waterproof bag with his journal and notes.

"I'd like to do some research on it when we get back to the Guild. Besides, it's clearly too dangerous to just leave it lying around."

Male Human (alternate racial trait: versatile human) Oracle (Lore) 2 - hp 23/23, AC 17 -Fort +2 Reflex +3 Will +3, Perc +6, Init +0, Atk Morning star +4, 1d8+3, Spells slots: 6/5

"Lord Rosewood, how are you?"

Sid list to lord Rosewood breathing, to try to discern if he still need help.

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

Dark Archive

male wraith biomedical scientist lv5/ film director lv3

At this time lord Rosewood's invisibility drops, he doesn't seem to be moving at all
Sid

Spoiler:
he's still alive, you can just about see that he's still alive, but he's been paralysed by something

Male Human Bard (archaeologist) /1 l AC 15 T 13 FF 12 l HP 8/8 l F +0 R +5 W +2 l Init +3 l Perc +5

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24

Bardic Knowledge, anything about Rosewood's condition: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17

Dark Archive

male wraith biomedical scientist lv5/ film director lv3

Bennevy

Spoiler:
you notice that lord Rosewood is still alive, but has been paralysed by some unnatural effect, only magic can help you restore him to his normal self, though thankfully he is stable and won't die from being in this condition for a few days at least. You notice a light hand print on the back of his neck. As to what could've caused this, you know that there are a number of undead creatures with the ability to paralyse people with their touch, but one that would also be invisible is very rare and quite powerful

Male Human Bard (archaeologist) /1 l AC 15 T 13 FF 12 l HP 8/8 l F +0 R +5 W +2 l Init +3 l Perc +5

Bennevy turns Rosewood gently onto his side and points out the handprint outline on the back of his neck.

"Something was in the room with us, something invisible and capable of paralyzing him with magic. The fact that it didn't go after us means Rosewood was a specific target. The fact that it isn't trying to kill us now means it has either left the area, or it does not believe that it could overpower all of us by itself. I don't possess any magic capable of healing paralysis. If he doesn't recover of his own accord, we may have to abort this mission and return to the Guild House."

Male Human (alternate racial trait: versatile human) Oracle (Lore) 2 - hp 23/23, AC 17 -Fort +2 Reflex +3 Will +3, Perc +6, Init +0, Atk Morning star +4, 1d8+3, Spells slots: 6/5

Sid check Rosewood condition to see if it seem permanent.

Depending on the origin of the paralysis several abilities can apply, so I roll all of them to keep post count down.

Heal: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

Knowledge arcana: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22

Knowledge Religion: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24

Female Tiefling Ninja 1

"it found him easily"

Kiriko looks for any traces left by the attacker
survival: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

Male Halfling Ninja 2 HP:19/19 AC:18 Fort:1, Reflex:7/8 traps, Will:-1, +2 vs Fear, Init: +4, Per: +6, Stealth +12

Timid backs into a corner concerned about invisible assassins. how can we fight such things?

Dark Archive

male wraith biomedical scientist lv5/ film director lv3

Sid

Spoiler:
from what you can tell, the paralysis isn't going to go away any time soon, as for what could have done this, no spell comes to mind but you do know some undead can permanently paralyse someone though they don't have the ability to become invisible on their own, the only exception to this is a Lich, an undead caster who can paralyse someone with a touch

Kiriko

Spoiler:
You don't find any traces of the intruder, unfortunately being in a train without knowing what you are looking for has made it too hard to find

Male Human Bard (archaeologist) /1 l AC 15 T 13 FF 12 l HP 8/8 l F +0 R +5 W +2 l Init +3 l Perc +5

"We can't very well carry him like this, and he's in no condition to lead us or even tell us where we're going," Bennevy says. "I suggest we allow a day to pass and see if the paralysis wears off, and if it doesn't, we should return to the Guild House. Either way, we probably should find out the condition of the train. If it's damaged beyond mobility or the crew is dead, we won't be going anywhere."

Bennevy looks to the others for their responses and opinions.

Female Tiefling Ninja 1

Kiriko nods "fortify position and scouting "

Tomid and I can scout and you fortify the position, I have some things that might help"

Male Human Bard (archaeologist) /1 l AC 15 T 13 FF 12 l HP 8/8 l F +0 R +5 W +2 l Init +3 l Perc +5

Bennevy nods. "Sounds good. What do you have?" he asks.

Male Human (alternate racial trait: versatile human) Oracle (Lore) 2 - hp 23/23, AC 17 -Fort +2 Reflex +3 Will +3, Perc +6, Init +0, Atk Morning star +4, 1d8+3, Spells slots: 6/5

"Sound good. I will keep an eye on lord Rosewood and see if I can help him recovery."

Sid do what he can to made Rosewood as comfortable as possible and use his heal skill do do long-term care in the hope it will help him recover.

Female Tiefling Ninja 1

"beartrap and caltrops and some rope"

Male Human Bard (archaeologist) /1 l AC 15 T 13 FF 12 l HP 8/8 l F +0 R +5 W +2 l Init +3 l Perc +5

"Well, that's a good start," Bennevy says looking at the bear trap in particular.

"Let's see what we can do with them. Am I wrong to assume you and Tomid might have some experience with booby traps? If you have any ideas beyond just placing these in front of the doors, I be interested."

Male Halfling Ninja 2 HP:19/19 AC:18 Fort:1, Reflex:7/8 traps, Will:-1, +2 vs Fear, Init: +4, Per: +6, Stealth +12

More on the avoiding and getting rid of side than the setting side. But we can try.

Female Tiefling Ninja 1

"setting an ambush"
Kiriko looks thoughtful and starts handing Bennevy a beartrap and two bags of caltrops.
"my suggestion is to put one bag in front of the door and one behind. Build a fortification, semicircular with one spot that's lower than the rest, place the beartrap behind that spot. Hide the caltrops between debris. "
