"It's a spell of suffocation!" Bennevy says as he moves towards the aura and grabs for Rosewood.
Assuming he is able to find and make contact with him, Bennevy tries to figure out if he can do anything to save him.
Bardic Knowledge: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Did my successful identification of the spell also reveal how to counteract the effects or stop the magic.?
Bennevy
Not sure of what else to do, Bennevy feels around until he makes contact with Rosewood. Assuming he locates him, he calls upon the magic of life to oppose the magic of death.
Cure light Wounds: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Sid Starbridge
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
"Suffocation? Healing him should help, and increasing his resistance to magic should do the trick too."
Sid grope in the area where he has heard Rosewood to find him.
touch attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
50% chance to hit (from 1 to 50): 1d100 ⇒ 13
I think I have found him
Then he cast Cure Light Wounds.
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
"Bennevy, you have something that can boost his resistance to magic?"

Recalling that the spell last for a few rounds Sid keep his grip on Rosewood and cast his cure spell after a few seconds.
"There is something very strange here. I think that that spell require to see the target. Even if this beast can see an invisible creature hasn't cast a spell. It hadn't the time. Look around for an invisible opponent."
Sid Starbridge
Sid look around while keeping his grip on Rosewood:
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
His preoccupation about the condition of his employer made him unable to focus on the area around him.

Bennevy's eyes lock-in on the object. "What is that?" he says in a tone of cautious curiosity.
Moving away from where the prone, still invisible (I presume) Lord Rosewood. He kneels next to the object and stretches his hand out towards it, but does not touch it. (casting detect magic).
If there are any auras, he tries to read and make sense of them. Whether the object is magical or not, he does his best to try and make sense of the symbology.
(Let me know what rolls are appropriate in this situation.)

"It's a King's Shadow," Bennevy replies in an ominous tone. "It supposedly only appears in times preceding great disasters or the sudden disappearance of important people. I don't recommend we touch it with bare hands."
Bennevy
Bennevy rummages through the luggage for a piece of cloth, or a small bag or container. Assuming he finds something serviceable, he uses it to pick up the King's Shadow and wrap it. He then places it in his waterproof bag with his journal and notes.
"I'd like to do some research on it when we get back to the Guild. Besides, it's clearly too dangerous to just leave it lying around."
Sid Starbridge
"Lord Rosewood, how are you?"
Sid list to lord Rosewood breathing, to try to discern if he still need help.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

Bennevy turns Rosewood gently onto his side and points out the handprint outline on the back of his neck.
"Something was in the room with us, something invisible and capable of paralyzing him with magic. The fact that it didn't go after us means Rosewood was a specific target. The fact that it isn't trying to kill us now means it has either left the area, or it does not believe that it could overpower all of us by itself. I don't possess any magic capable of healing paralysis. If he doesn't recover of his own accord, we may have to abort this mission and return to the Guild House."
Sid Starbridge
Sid check Rosewood condition to see if it seem permanent.
Depending on the origin of the paralysis several abilities can apply, so I roll all of them to keep post count down.
Heal: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Knowledge arcana: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Knowledge Religion: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24

"We can't very well carry him like this, and he's in no condition to lead us or even tell us where we're going," Bennevy says. "I suggest we allow a day to pass and see if the paralysis wears off, and if it doesn't, we should return to the Guild House. Either way, we probably should find out the condition of the train. If it's damaged beyond mobility or the crew is dead, we won't be going anywhere."
Bennevy looks to the others for their responses and opinions.
Sid Starbridge
"Sound good. I will keep an eye on lord Rosewood and see if I can help him recovery."
Sid do what he can to made Rosewood as comfortable as possible and use his heal skill do do long-term care in the hope it will help him recover.
Bennevy
"Well, that's a good start," Bennevy says looking at the bear trap in particular.
"Let's see what we can do with them. Am I wrong to assume you and Tomid might have some experience with booby traps? If you have any ideas beyond just placing these in front of the doors, I be interested."
Kiriko Kangetsu
"setting an ambush"
Kiriko looks thoughtful and starts handing Bennevy a beartrap and two bags of caltrops.
"my suggestion is to put one bag in front of the door and one behind. Build a fortification, semicircular with one spot that's lower than the rest, place the beartrap behind that spot. Hide the caltrops between debris. "
