Hungry Voodoo's Mines of Zolurket (Inactive)

Game Master voodoo chili

In 4121 AR, the desert dwarves of the Barrier Wall Mountains sealed the famed Tar-Urkatha mine abruptly, saying only that one of the richest platinum mines in history had played out. Nearly six centuries later, the truth rises from the darkness.

Female Human Housewife/1

Since we got some elves in the group, I feel like dark vision is a lot less pertinent now. I may go with Half elf since it's a standard slave race.

Need to work on crunch. I only did an abbreviated crunch for DM Voice's recruitment.

Will there be any use for ranged combat, or should I just go for hitting really hard?

Hu5tru - I'll still have Darkvision, Crypt Breakers change out the mutagen for a Perception boosting Darkvision bestowing one.

Similarly I'll be built for range - so building to stand in the frontlines would fit if that's your thing?

Hu5tru - Squishy types like me would like to see someone who hits hard and is hard to hit.

Mumbles the incantations for light, and centers it in the corner

Female Human Housewife/1

Sure, I'll drop Dex down to 14 from 15. same mechanical benefit, less points spent. then up strength to 18. and if someone is doing ranged, I can focus on sword and board.

Thanks for the help. :)

Now if only the darn link would stop redirecting me to some blog bullstuff every time I want to see the latest...

Hu5tru wrote:

yeah, it's doing the same thing to me :/ I was hoping it would correct once I started adding links to the campaign site, but maybe I should notify someone...

So velcome, velcome. We can work out some of the nitty gritty here.

Hu5tru- I certainly didn't mean to deter you from a half-orc. in fact there would probably be a bit less animosity since most orcs were extirpated from Katapesh. half-orcs are likely to be newcomers or the last gasps of the indigenous bloodlines. Go with what you are going to enjoy playing.

Female Human Housewife/1

Cool. Only reason I am sort of wary about half orc is the height of the mines. They were built with dwarves in mind, and... half orcs are huge.

She'd be good aligned, probably following Kurgess, the god of challenges. And strength 18 is going to look a lot more convincing on a half orc than a human woman.

SPECIAL ABILITIES

Favored Enemy (Ex) At 1st level, a ranger selects a creature type from the ranger favored enemies table. He gains a +2 bonus on Bluff, Knowledge, Perception, Sense Motive, and Survival checks against creatures of his selected type. Likewise, he gets a +2 bonus on weapon attack and damage rolls against them. A ranger may make Knowledge skill checks untrained when attempting to identify these creatures.

At 5th level and every five levels thereafter (10th, 15th, and 20th level), the ranger may select an additional favored enemy. In addition, at each such interval, the bonus against any one favored enemy (including the one just selected, if so desired) increases by +2.

If the ranger chooses humanoids or outsiders as a favored enemy, he must also choose an associated subtype, as indicated on the table below. (Note that there are other types of humanoid to choose from—those called out specifically on the table below are merely the most common.) If a specific creature falls into more than one category of favored enemy, the ranger's bonuses do not stack; he simply uses whichever bonus is higher.

Track (Ex): A ranger adds half his level (minimum 1) to Survival skill checks made to follow or identify tracks.

Wild Empathy (Ex): A ranger can improve the initial attitude of an animal. This ability functions just like a Diplomacy check to improve the attitude of a person (see Using Skills). The ranger rolls 1d20 and adds his ranger level and his Charisma bonus to determine the wild empathy check result. The typical domestic animal has a starting attitude of indifferent, while wild animals are usually unfriendly.

To use wild empathy, the ranger and the animal must be within 30 feet of one another under normal visibility conditions. Generally, influencing an animal in this way takes 1 minute, but, as with influencing people, it might take more or less time.

The ranger can also use this ability to influence a magical beast with an Intelligence score of 1 or 2, but he takes a –4 penalty on the check.

RACIAL ABILITIES

+2 to One Ability Score: Half-orc characters get a +2 bonus to one ability score of their choice at creation to represent their varied nature.

Medium: Half-orcs are Medium creatures and have no bonuses or penalties due to their size.

Normal Speed: Half-orcs have a base speed of 30 feet.

Darkvision: Half-orcs can see in the dark up to 60 feet (see darkvision.)

Intimidating: Half-orcs receive a +2 racial bonus on Intimidate skill checks due to their fearsome nature.

Orc Blood: Half-orcs count as both humans and orcs for any effect related to race.

Sacred Tattoo: Tattoos, piercings, and ritual scarification are sacred markings to many Half-orcs. Half-orcs with this racial trait gain a +1 luck bonus on all saving throws.

Weapon Familiarity: Half-orcs are proficient with greataxes and falchions and treat any weapon with the word “orc” in its name as a martial weapon.

Languages: Half-orcs begin play speaking Common and Orc. Half-orcs with high Intelligence scores can choose from the following: Abyssal, Draconic, Giant, Gnoll, and Goblin.

Now some random appearance stuff

2d12 ⇒ (3, 6) = 9 for height 1d6 ⇒ 4 for random age.

Grand Lodge

Have Jerrand set just need to know if we will be using traits or not.

Voodoo's standard is two traits, unless he wants to change it up for this one.

two traits is peachy. so still waiting for Cortos to make his way over and Randall793's character. Shirish looks fine if you want to make an alias.

Dwarf Barbarian 2

Here I am, character is all done.

Voodoo - are you happy for me to take a trait from Legacy of Fire player's guide?

I'm looking at:
Uwaga Highlander: +1 to Stealth, or +2 to Stealth in hilly or rocky areas

I'll be all tied off and finished in a brand spanking new alias tonight.

Grand Lodge

Actually that made it's way over to the APG under - Regional traits.

Would be a great boon underground.

Mark Sweetman wrote:

Sure, but did you actually attend the University of Waga?

Grand Lodge

Hope you don't mind a little link to give you some ideas on your ranger Hu5tru. This... Treantmonk's Guide to Rangers has a lot of detail and talks about a favorite of mine The Switch Hitter.

Essentially a high STR ranger who can wade into melee (selecting regular feats like Power Attack, Cleave, etc.) and takes Archery as his combat style to gain things like Rapid and Many Shot.

And as soon as you get a mighty composite bow +4 you have a great first strike weapon and even if caught off guard or engaged in melee you can't get out of the character packs a wallop.

And am looking into buying the Gods and Magic pdf for this and other games as well.

Female Human Housewife/1

I was originally thinking switch hitter, but Randall expressed a desire to have a tank. Since we have the Barbarian who will be a glass cannon, a wizard and an alchemist, I thought it would be appropriate if Shirish were a great big meat shield. Additionally the dwarves could get out all their hate when she's getting rended to pieces by their ancestral foes.

I will have a alias later. I thought to sleep some more first.

Dwarf Barbarian 2
Hu5tru wrote:

Oh right, AC 10.

Female Human Housewife/1

There's one thing I don't understand about Paizo. It says in the fluff that Half orcs are between 6 and 7 feet tall. Why then, do they start the average height out at 4'5", like a human, and give 2d12? Is it not just as possible that you could have a half orc that is not even 5 feet tall? A half orc no taller than a dwarf? What the hey, Paizo?

*shakes head*

I'll get on making an alias and coming up with a history shortly.

Nothing too racey or hard to overcome. Likely Shirish was the product of selective half orc breeding program, and had as stable a home as her owner could afford.

I'm going to play her charisma 10 pretty quiet, prefering to let her actions speak for her than engage in long dialogs. Do not intend to be a difficult character that's unable to express her opinion, just less prone to preaching than most of the high charisma characters that I regularly make.

Male Elf Alchemist (Crypt Breaker) 5

This shall be the profile of Mark's Elven Crypt Breaker from Vudra.

Still need to pretty up the details in the profile, but mostly there.

Male Elf Wizard 3 (Transmuter-Enhancement) / AC13->17(mage armor) / HP23->full

A placeholder for the elven transmuter that's coming through.

Those are ok. if you do use one, just note the source on your character sheet.

@Shirish- They probably should have put a greater height range on the half-orc description. I play a half-orc that is only 5' as his dad was a short Tien hermit. :)

Got my profile up. Will work on Appearance, Motivation and further fluff this evening.

Male Elf Alchemist (Crypt Breaker) 5

Am polishing up the crunch in the profile now and should be done and dusted inside an hour or so.

Alright, everyone try and finish up your characters today. I'm ready to roll : )

If it helps with your background- the intro adventure will be quite standard Pathfinder Society material. The Sueda Lodge is quite remote in a barren corner of the country of Katapesh. You could be affiliated with the PFS, an acquaintance of the dwarven caretaker or just wandering through. I'll go ahead and put up the the first in game post, but I'd like to see everyone ready to go before we start playing.

Male Elf Alchemist (Crypt Breaker) 5

I'm within spitting distance of profile completion, but won't get the final polish on till tomorrow. Should only be gear to finalize as all the critical choices have been made.

Hungry Skull:
Background will follow later, but essentially he is a Vudran elf who was raised in the Uwaga highlands by his father as sole parent. His father left Vudra for unknown reasons to Chitleen, and while raising the boy brought him up to follow in his alchemical footsteps.

As he aged, his father made a decision to travel back to Vudra - though fell ill upon the journey. Convalescing in the Sueda Lodge, his father (Manjit) warded him against going to Vudra without him - but would not say why. When Manjit passed, Chitleen was left alone and without ties to anyone.

I'd assume he's been helping out at the Lodge for a little while prior to adventure start if that's ok?

Appearance

Age: 18 Height: 5'2" Weight: 180 lbs Hair: Black Eyes: Violet Complexion: Gray

Shirish stands no taller, and in fact, a great deal shorter than many human females, although she is also considerably stockier. The word thick easily applies to Shirish, who despite having been sired by two "consenting" half orc parties only vaguely resembles her human ancestors. It appears that Shirish has chosen to wear her hair in dreadlocks, which suits her rather wild and comfortable appearance. On her face, as well as on what can be seen of her arms what may appear to be patterns of raised scars and tattoos (took the alternative race trait Sacred Tattoo)

History:

Shirish is what might be considered the successful result of a directed breeding program between half-orc mercenaries in Sandpoint. She does not know who her parents were, but that she was a considerable investment on the part of her former owner. Shirish's master was little better than most, he treated his stock well, as was required of a man who peddled in flesh meant to serve as bodyguards for the elite. Half orcs were a particular specialty of his, as some clients had perverse tastes for ferocious creatures to guard their mundane persons.

Shirish's training was from the very beginning wholly martial. Her strength of arms was encouraged early and daily, as she was directed to compete in physical contests wearing armor to train every facet of her body completely. Shirish excelled in contests, and gained the respect of her peers with her ability to persevere despite what appeared to them to be her crippling handicap.

As fate would have it, however, despite her prodigious strength and martial and physical prowess, Shirish's heart was a great deal more gentle than most, a flaw which might have been overlooked in practice but she was a great deal shorter than her contemporaries. When put in a line with larger males and uglier females, Shirish was often overlooked. Rather than entertain several offers to have Shirish serve in a brothel, her master "freed" her to provide aide to a Pathfinder expedition leaving the city.

Motivation:

Shirish feels no particular enmity towards her master, or regard for the Pathfinder society. In terms of ambition, Shirish's is simple, to test and improve her physical and combat prowess through contest. In the mines, however, contest is likely to be constant battle with undead and worse.

Again, I'm not looking to be a non character for this RP, but as a former slave who has been passed along, she doesn't have much to complain about. She's a pretty happy young woman who delights in being able to prove her worth through exhibition of her skill. At opening, she has no great "plans," she knows only that she is attached to this mission, and that it involves undead. I imagine that she learned all she could about the creatures she could be expected to face there, hence the favored enemy Undead as opposed to Human.

Posting this here and on the profile as well, in case you don't check both. Will get around to finishing out equipment later, as number crunching is my least favorite part of the creation process. Can expect that Shirish will buy rope, a pick, pitons, etc, though.

Male Elf Wizard 3 (Transmuter-Enhancement) / AC13->17(mage armor) / HP23->full

Still buffing up the character, the base stats are up, finishing the inventory and background.

Chitleen:
I'm not buying the Mwaga link. Alchemist really screams urban origin to me. You need schooling and easy access to reagents. There are large Vudrani populations in both Katapesh City and Nex. If you are just trying to fit a trait- don't. make one up call it smuggler or lurker or something that explains why you would develop a skill in sneaking.

Cortos:
I just think it is extremely unlikely a northern dwarf would have a known living relative among the desert dwarves. Remember that the Quest for Sky was around 9,000 years ago. I'd prefer you not try to have any connection to Zolurket if you truly want to play a dwarf from the north. it's good enough to say that you are curious about Desert Dwarves or just ended up in Katapesh after a bender.

Shirish:
I'd rather just leave Sandpoint out of it. The city of Okeno in Katapesh is known as a hub for the slave trade and would make a more likely place for your origins plus explain your darker skin tone. Otherwise, backstory is fine.

Grand Lodge

Just to make sure for you, Jerrand is ready for a check over.

Whoa, I dunno what brand of illicit drugs I wasn't smoking when I put Sandpoint in my history. What a gaffe! Okeno it is.

Wow. Where did I come up with that? Some brainfart.

Jerrand- looks good. I find a dwarf priest of Gorum intriguing. My only comment is that the Hand of Iron would likely be extremely controversial in the Five Kingdoms. Gorum worship would be up there with worship of Droskar among the conservative and law leaning dwarves. If the Iron Hand weren't straight out exiled, you may have left to find possible converts among the dwarves of Garund. Cortos might even be a likely convert if he has any spiritual leanings : )

Also, would you mind using a more standard Defense/ Offense/ Etc. Stat Block format for my ease of use.

Grand Lodge

Yes in the background I didn't go into detail but they fell out of power and almost into obscurity because of the lawful/chaotic clash. A convert would be someone who holds a grudge longer than normal or has had something happen to those he cares about in the past. The Iron Hand would scour destroyed outposts looking for not only survivors but converts. I make add that to his background.

If you mean the style you see in the Bestairy I will give it my best and keep the other way at the bottom for me. LOL

Shirish wrote:

maybe you just had sand on the brain? seems appropriate ; )

if you wouldn't mind, hey you said you were bored ; ). just stick it under a spoiler button if you like. it honestly makes my job much easier.

Grand Lodge

Was bored LOL no longer as three new games surfaced today. Will get it done and let you know I'm headed to the SRD to do a little copy/pasting. ;)

Male Elf Alchemist (Crypt Breaker) 5

Hungry Skull - Yeah, I see your point and have made suitable alteration. Last name is now derived from the Indian caste system - a Shudra was an artisan or tradesman.

Are you ok if I take out the convoluted and crap backstory I came up with and just make him from Niswan on the Isle of Jalmeray?

Bit More Detail:
Came across to Katapesh on business with his father and stayed to help out at the local arm of the company (plus experiment on the side). An avid spelunker he became friends with a Pathfinder and that was his introduction to the group.

He has left the business behind being run by an associate to pursue the life of the Pathfinder.

Would that work as an outline? - I can start massaging in the gaps if it does.

Grand Lodge

New sheet format is up. Let me know if I missed anything.

That's ok, ignore the part about the relative then, he's just an acquaintance, and Cortos wants to explore the mines out of curiosity.

Thanks, all! everything looks great. I'm still waiting for Daeron to finish up, but the rest of y'all have done your homework so you're allowed to go outside and play :)

Working with what you've put in your backgrounds. I've had a couple thoughts as to why you might actually be at the Sueda Lodge.

Chitleen- You could be following up on rumors that an Alchemist PF associate (rival or friend) named Jawad Yakut had a lead on a possible stash of skymetal in a lost shrine in the Trackless Storm.

Shirish- You may have been on Jawad's team, but left behind at Sueda Lodge to care for your master's spare mounts.

Cortos- You could be looking into the source of the Gnoll's stolen goods.

Jerrand- Possibly on your way to the region around Solku where clashes between gnolls and dwarves among others might lead to fertile ground for the faith of Gorum.

Just some suggestions that you should feel free to use or not.
Great characters everyone, let's start! :)

NOTE: I should mention that I have no problem with minor tweeks to your character through your first level. So if a feat or whatever really doesn't work as you expected or fit how your character is developing feel free to change it. It usually takes me a level to get a solid feel for a character so I have no problem with that.

Male Elf Alchemist (Crypt Breaker) 5

Voodoo - sounds great, I'll treat the relationship with Jawad as neutral for now - and that he is following up on the disappearance and just arrived to the lodge.

I think this guy might take a while to settle in, as I've felt a bit like I'm forcing the fluff around the pre-designed shell I had in my mind - but I'll get there :)

I've got to figure out a connection between Punjabi styled perfume salesman and crypt breaking alchemist ;)

Male Elf Alchemist (Crypt Breaker) 5

Hungry Skull:
A thought, do you have any issues if I style my extracts and mutagen as derived from Ittars?

So rather than drinking a potion, I would apply a dab of the perfumed oil to one of my chakra focal points.

So a true strike extract could be dabbing mitti ittar onto my wrists, giving a faint odour of broken earth.

Mechanically would be no change from a standard extract.

Does that sound do-able? - or overly wanky?

Chitleen- NO problem at all. nice touch : )

Male Elf Alchemist (Crypt Breaker) 5

Excellent good - I've slightly re-engaged the background and realized there isn't any reason for him to be Stealthy at 1st level, so have taken a merchant trait for Appraise.

Not sure on deity yet, will probably take an obscure Vudran one.

Male Elf Wizard 3 (Transmuter-Enhancement) / AC13->17(mage armor) / HP23->full

Daeron's done. Hope everything's smooth.

Got it, Daeron. Would you mind moving stats and spells closer to the top of your alias info more like Shirish and Jerrand. That will help me with referencing info more easily in combat when I need it.

Otherwise, I believe we're ready to go. I'll start the action after introductions at the 'Gameplay' thread.

wow, sorry about that guys, i really did not notice that the game play thread had kicked off already.

Male Elf Alchemist (Crypt Breaker) 5

:) - no problems Shirish, now that you've one post in the game thread it should show up on your campaign ticker and be alot easier to keep track of.
