Bartan Harrowborn |
Hi guys! I'm here, just trying deal with the travesty that is our electoral process at the moment, so I'm going to let you all figure out what to do with poor Bartan's golden body for the next day or so. I'll be back later this week when I cool down.
GM_Pace |
That would be:
- 10 lbs of gold dust (53 gp worth)
- 80 lbs of fine gold wool (exceptional quality, especially to a goldsmith or armorer; enough for an entire noble's outfit made in gold thread, once combed, spindled, and spun. Or emboss an entire armor suit in gold thread. Or make a dozen fine gold trinkets and items.) (2,000 gp)
- 7 plank-sized solid gold armor plates; each has arcane writing on the outer side (1 foot square, 3 lbs each)
- Both ram's horns are hollow and gold-plated. The right horn is inscribed with Nex’s personal rune. The left horn is pierced at the tip, enabling it to be blown.

Hajar assists his brother.
Rayhan Xohbadi |
Rayhan says The magic that would free poor Bartan is beyond me...
Nasir al' Shahaadi |
"Can you at lease shrink him to make him easier to carry?" Nasir asks the wizard.
Khayal Bin Haleen |
Khayal looks at Yazi distastefully. He then offers to do some hunting in the woods. The remains of the ram would do little to ease hunger. survival: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 As will his hunting skills aparantly.
Rayhan Xohbadi |
Rayhan suggests We should wait out the magic, if Bartan is not back by morning...well we need to seek out a more powerful practitioner.
to Nasir Rayhan says I cannot. Perhaps with some time, and my proper spellbooks....
GM_Pace |
So while Khayal was off hunting, the morning turns into afternoon. Khayal comes back with a few birds to roast over a fire pit. The afternoon turns to night.
Having decided to wait, the adventurers settle in for the evening. That night, the animals appear to be skittish, with even the large snakes and hydras deciding to hide in their burrows as the sky once again flickers with soundless purple lightning. A tremor, like a far-away earthquake, is felt from the West, where the sun set.
------Day 03 in Kakishon--------
The next morning a cacophony of bird noises is heard all around, the mists concealing their presence. It is very foggy out in the middle of the island, and dew collects on everything.
Round about mid-morning the gnoll who was turned to gold loses his sheen, and comes back to life. Looking around, the beast-man discovers he is surrounded by humans. A few seconds later, Bartan also regains his colors, and stops being a statue.
Rayhan Xohbadi |
Ah. Bartan is returned to us. I am glad of it, and I owe Hajar two coppers. Hajar bet that it would happen, I was not so optimistic.
Hajar nar Jundi |
I gambled on the Gambler. Hajar says with a grin.
Welcome back Friend Bartan.
GM_Pace |
The gnoll looked warily from adventurer to adventurer. "I am Redfur of the Bloodhunter tribe. You captured the Golden Prey. You must be from outside, like the fire-genies that brought us all here." His fur and armor are dyed in hideous patterns and decorated with shells, feathers, and tiny fetishes.
Bartan Harrowborn |
"Well, that was uncomfortable. If that ever happens again, please refrain from carrying me in such a way that my eyes are in your armpit, friend Hajar." Bartan grumbles, obviously annoyed at having lost a day to being a statue.
"Now, were we at least successful at catching the ram?"

The gnoll speaks again in Common. "We hunted the Golden Prey for generations, but now we have need for the Prey's treasure. The Turtle King has been overturning our outriggers, killing our warriors. Our Elder told us only the Golden Prey's horn can call a protected galley ship to us, and get us off of our island without the Turtle King attacking."
Nasir al' Shahaadi |
Nasir turns to look at Yazi with pronounced skepticism. "Uhm... what would stop the rest of them from trying to kill us Yaz?"
GM_Pace |
The gnoll shrugs. "Elder either wanted to kill the Turtle King, so we can paddle to the other Serpent Isles as before, or use horn to call protected galley ship to escape to another set of islands the Turtle King does not consider his territory. The Turtle King tries to keep us on Azzabes, and there is not enough game there to feed us all."
GM_Pace |
"On Serpent Isles is our tribe, plus the game of the grasslands, mists, beaches, jungle, trees." Redfur replied. "Elder is oldest, strongest fighter. Before Shortfur was One-eye, last gnoll to wound Golden Prey before it ran away."
Redfur looked at the others. "Hunting pack back on Azzabes by now. With horn, I could challenge Elder. But now..." the gnoll dropped the sentence, looking at the humans around him.
"Unless you defeat Turtle King. Or have fire-genies and earth-genies all gone from this land now?" Redfur asked. "Or have you fled the singing shapeshifters as well?"
Yazi |
"... do you need to challenge your elder? Or do you want your people to be safe and fed?" Yazi simply asks the Gnoll.
The above was written before your edit -_-
"We don't need to fight him if we have the horn, do we? And, oh yeah, all the sexy Fire people have left."
GM_Pace |
The gnoll's ears flicker irritably at Yazi's words. "I am eldest after Shortfur, among the hunters." he stated flatly. "Shortfur is oldest, and strongest...for now. But our best tracker was killed by Golden Prey, and the others have by now told Eldest how I failed to defeat the Golden Prey."
Hajar nar Jundi |
Hajar frowns at Yazi, thinking this a giant waste of time. However, the Goddess teaches Mercy, and if Yazi wants to be that agent he won't interfere.
Khayal Bin Haleen |
Khayal knows better than to argue with Yazi about her "friends" and simply keeps his eyes on the gnoll and his blades ready.

Bartan looks over the items, using charges from his wand of identify as needed.

(Wow. Ignoring Rayhan's superior ID's again! But Bartan did roll good this time.)
One horn - pierced at the tip, enabling it to be blown. The gnoll seemed to indicate that it could be used to summon a "galley". Presumably from an island Waystation like the one you spent the night at. With the long pier out front. (5 lbs.)
One horn, inscribed with Nex’s personal rune (horn of the golden draught): As a standard action, this gold-plated drinking horn can produce a golden draught. A creature that imbibes or is anointed with this liquid is freed from enchantments, transmutations, and curses as if subjected to a break enchantment spell. If the user suffers from no such conditions, her skin instead takes on a golden hue and becomes almost impervious to blows, as per stoneskin. A horn of the golden draught can produce up to five draughts of each version of the draught before it turns to brass and becomes nonmagical. (7,000 gp, 5 lbs.)
Plates: each 1 ft square plank (3 lbs each) functions as a one-time 20th Level scroll. The spells are: freedom of movement, haste, mage armor, mind blank, protection from spells, spider climb, and water walk. Of course, being made of solid gold, they're probably worth 150 gp each.
The gold dust and wool is nonmagical.
Rayhan Xohbadi |
Ugh sorry. Playing two characters is confusing. I forgot about Rayhan IDing stuff...
Bartan Harrowborn |
Bartan is subtly trying to undermine Rayhan, as he feels slightly put off by the wizard's inclusion in the group. But he also realizes he's got many faults which Rayhan might shore up, so he's not going to complain out loud. :)
Bartan explains the magical properties he has discovered to his friends, as well as the fact that the dust and wool are simply golden and worth lots of money.
Rayhan Xohbadi |
Those gold plates will be quite useful, in a nonmonetary way. Rayhan says
Rayhan will take the CL20 Scrolls if Bartan doesn't want to use them. Carrying them will be a beast... they are a total of 21lbs.
Hajar nar Jundi |
Let's blow the horn, and see where the galley takes us.
Hajar will head for the beach and blow the horn...
