"They're like giant crossbows right? Couldn't we get someone up there under invisibility and have them either cut, or weaken, the strings? Weakening them would be better I think, it will catch them off guard when they go to use them and might by us some extra time to get away later."

Elsbeth nodded, "If someone has talents in disabling machines, it could be useful to have them broken somehow. We should be able to get someone up there relatively unseen."

Rizolla wrote:
"Of course if you would prefer I bet we could convince them to take us both when you go in, that gives you some backup and two sets of eyes to watch for trouble." She grinned, "I would imagine that they would be more willing to let two lovely women inside than they would any of the men, and men usually underestimate women making it easier for us to deal with trouble or lie our way out."

Elsbeth chewed the inside of her cheek, "That's assuming I'm taken into the keep. But I'm sure the two of us could be persuasive enough to get you in too. And it would be nice to know someone had my back instead of being alone."

The next bit assumes Hob voices some of that outloud.

The Milanite sat up straighter, "I almost forgot. I have a couple scrolls that allow me to shape stone. I may be able to make a hole in one of the stable walls for us to get out of but we won't know where it leads."

I think a lot of what we'd do depends on what the guards do and when they do it.

Sensing how Elsbeth wasn’t warming up to him, he asked, “I don’t have all night, woman. You comfortable here or you want me to sneak you in to the barracks?”

Elsbeth breathed an audible sigh of relief as if he'd guessed the true reason behind her hesitation. "Of course I'm not comfortable here. I work with those people and I couldn't be...uninhibited knowing they can hear me." She leaned in and nuzzled his neck. "The barracks would be much more exciting, especially if you have to sneak me in. Nothing like a little intrigue to get the juices flowing." She paused before continuing, letting her breath tickle his ear, And...Rizolla and I are quite aware of the prestige of being assigned here, of the strength and virility of those chosen to serve here. Knowing you would return, she asked me to ask if you could also find her a friend to keep her warm. Surely you could sneak both of us in." Her hand roamed downwards, "Are you up for the challenge?"

It didn’t take long for the first visit to occur; it was the soldier who had taken away Elsbeth’s shield and weapon. The heavy bar outside was dropped on the floor none too gently suggesting that whoever was opening the door didn’t really care if he was heard or not.

They saw the bonfire in the middle of the courtyard as the door was briefly opened. Then Lacius entered and the door was closed behind him by someone from the outside though no one heard the bar put back in place.

As soon as he heard the bar scrape, Hob realised his mistake - the spell simply took too long to string together. Even at speed he'd need a good ten minutes.

Hob sighed as the girls left. He signalled to Eirik. "When I wave, get attention. The faster we can get them to open the door, the better. I only need a moment with the door open, but it needs to be when I'm ready."
If Eirik says yes
Hob assembled the spell, doing his best to keep his mind off the situation as he worked at the back of the room. When he felt the spell about to come together, he waved furiously to Eirik. As soon as the eye started moving he flew it to above the door, ready for it to zip out to freedom.

Eirik nodded, a grim look on his face as he considered the few ways he might be able to rouse the interest of the guards outside without doing anything that'd send them in swords in hand. The men outside had seemed professional enough, barring Elsbeth's new very best friend. Which was a very good thing for them; they might be willing to buy a new act of physical comedy.

The monk looked around, taking inventory at the belongings they had been allowed to take in the stables with them. For something that involved a lot of noise, the cooking supplies came to mind first. Particularly, a rather large and well-used cast-iron cauldron. Eirik hefted the heavy kettle in both hands, considering, tapping the thick metal with a knuckle. Then, he sighed deeply, scattered food bowls around his feet, put the kettle against the wall, raised a fist and hit the kettle. Hard.

A hideous clang of metal on stone echoed in the stables as the monk's fist cracked iron. Moving swiftly, Eirik put the damaged kettle over his head like a helmet and lowered himself to the ground, feet tangled in pots and pans and bowls, groaning loudly.

By the time the bemused guards opened the door to see what all the noise had been about, Eirik was sitting up on the floor, his makeshift helmet still in his head, for all appearances turning his head this way and that in a bemused way as if wondering who turned out the lights. "Got told I had a hard head when I was a kid," he said in a conversational tone of voice, turning to face the sound of the door opening. "I think, perhaps not hard enough," he went on, finishing with a great groan of pain (and not a little humiliation).

Just in case... the door isn't well-fitting enough to be airtight, right?

Action 1:

We still need to decide on whether Elsbeth is casting anything for anyone.

Elsbeth rooted through her pack and took out some of her items and stowed them on her person. It may get a little tricky once she received her visitor but better to have a few things to help than not.

She'll move the scrolls and potions out of their hiding places in her bag. If she can't take them all, she'll definitely take the invisibility potion.

Hob assembled the spell, doing his best to keep his mind off the situation as he worked at the back of the room. When he felt the spell about to come together, he waved furiously to Eirik. He glanced around when he heard the deep sound of distressed metal, and almost lost the spell. Out of the corner of his eye he saw Eirik, apparently mortally wounded, and barely had the presence of mind to command the eye. The eye flew above the door, ready to zip out to freedom.

As they were finalizing their plans Rizolla said, "Most of what I can cast will need to wait until we're ready, the spells won't last very long, a minute or so before at the most."

Action 2
When Lacius appeared with the food Rizolla rose and approached cautiously. She stopped a few feet away and said, "Thank you Sir, I'm glad to know that Her Infernal Majestrix's soldiers are such loyal protectors of the Queen and her people." She waited for permission to take the food and then began to dole it out to everyone.

Action 3
Seeing the guard who was after Elsbeth's affections arrive, Rizolla waited until the man made her suggestion to the guard and approached. She looked at the man and said pleadingly, "Please Sir, I want to serve the soldiers who have taken us in as best I can, I can cook and clean and...other things, as desired. I will serve all of you or one if I have too. I would be pleased to give you a chance to see what I can do, if I can please you and your friends I'd be willing to stay and do so as long as desired."

Just some clarifications...

Lacius IS the guard that is after Elsbeth's attention and he did NOT bring in food.

The food supposedly comes later.

I'll give Hawthorne a couple of more hours to post before moving this along.

Unless I hear otherwise, the party will split with Elsbeth and Rizolla going one way and the rest staying behind in the stables.

@Hob: where will you put 'this eye'? Is it moving? if so, where to?

You create an invisible magical sensor that sends you visual information. You can create the arcane eye at any point you can see, but it can then travel outside your line of sight without hindrance. An arcane eye travels at 30 feet per round (300 feet per minute) if viewing an area ahead as a human would (primarily looking at the floor) or 10 feet per round (100 feet per minute) if examining the ceiling and walls as well as the floor ahead. It sees exactly as you would see if you were there.
The eye can travel in any direction as long as the spell lasts. Solid barriers block its passage, but it can pass through a hole or space as small as 1 inch in diameter. The eye can’t enter another plane of existence, even through a gate or similar magical portal.
You must concentrate to use an arcane eye. If you do not concentrate, the eye is inert until you again concentrate.
scrying wrote:

Scrying: a scrying spell creates an invisible magical sensor that sends you information. Unless noted otherwise, the sensor has the same powers of sensory acuity that you possess. This level of acuity includes any spells or effects that target you, but not spells or effects that emanate from you. The sensor, however, is treated as a separate, independent sensory organ of yours, and thus functions normally even if you have been blinded or deafened, or otherwise suffered sensory impairment.

A creature can notice the sensor by making a Perception check with a DC 20 + the spell level. The sensor can be dispelled as if it were an active spell.
Lead sheeting or magical protection blocks a scrying spell, and you sense that the spell is blocked.

Perception DC 24 by default. Perception generally gets a penalty based on cover and distance, and Hob will be trying to cause both. This'll effect the eye as well, of course.

In the stable Hob leaned against the wall, eyes shut as if asleep. His vision overlaid with the eye, he found it easier to only see one thing at a time.

The eye slipped through the gap and rocketed up to the roofline. From there it concentrated on finding a shadow to hide in, though the moonlight provided so little light that it was hard to tell the dark grey stone from the night. Staring down through his arcane puppet Hob saw the flares of torches, and slowly he made his way along the walls, looking for a window or arrowslit through which he could slip the sensor.

Rizolla felt the man wrap a hand around her waist and grab her backside. She giggled at the feel of the man's hand grasping her firm posterior and leaned against him a bit as they left the room.

Action 3
When they reached Lacius' superior Rizolla was worried that his head shake would stop them from gaining entrance. The fact that Lacius left them didn't bother the sorceress, it worked to their advantage. She looked around the room for any other exits than the one they came in through or any possible places someone could be listening in from before she considered saying anything.

Elsbeth and Rizolla were left in room C3b. It is a typical guard room with arrow slits that look out to the west of the western portcullis and to the central courtyard (C2).

There isn't much here except a sparring dummy and a simple table with four chairs. Not very romantic I'm afraid. :)

The guards here aren't meant to be comfortable but to actually pull guard duty.

Lacius wanted to take you inside to his actual barracks but was vetoed by a more senior officer.

Lacius will presumably be back with his wingman.

I also have a potion of invisibility and you suggested you can make yourself invisible so we could just sneak out when they come back." Then she sighed resignedly, "Or we spread our legs but I'd almost rather knock them out and tie them up."

”Just my pride and sense of self-worth,” Eirik answered with another sigh once the guards had closed the door and had had a few moments to settle back to their stations. ”It might be that I have missed my calling, studying law and history instead of joining up with street performers. Not that the thought gives me much pleasure.” He did accept the rags gratefully and used them to wipe the grease stains from his brow – managing to spread them out evenly all over his face.

Might be a good thing the girls weren’t taken further away… the way I see it, we should wait for grub (which I’d expect will arrive shortly if, for nothing else, because I expect the cooks want to head for their beds before long), after which we should have a bit of uninterrupted time… we could start by taking out the night visitors to our ladies’ new quarters, then try to lure in the guards outside the door and take it from there… Fabian, any chance that some of us would be close enough to the physical build of the guards that we might at least temporarily manage to put on the guards’ uniforms and confuse the fellows patrolling the courtyard?

I don't fancy our chances of getting inside without commotion, but perhaps we could at least take out a few enemies before the others are alerted... the ballistae up on the battlements would not be a problem if we get flush against the keep's wall, I assume? I think aiming such weapons straight down would be difficult at best.

Thew ballista should not be a problem and even if you were targeted, the potential damage isn't that high.

I'd give everyone a good chance to disguise themselves as guards (with uniform). It is night after all and they are not expecting trouble after the thorough search you have been subjected to. Ron is the trusting type, bless his soul. :)

Elsbeth paced the room while trying to figure out their options with Rizolla. "The only reason I suggested invisibility was that he seemed to emphasize that he'd get in a lot of trouble if we didn't stay put. If we were 'gone' when they returned, they'd obviously check the stables and seeing us not there as well may return to the keep but I'm not sure they'd report it right away or sound the alarm. We may have been able to follow them inside when the door was opened for them but...it would be extremely risky."

She changed topics and continued, "I only have two scrolls and that plan would use up both of them. Plus it would be highly suspicious to be reading a scroll just after they enter. But we could still probably deal with them quietly. Don't underestimate how vulnerable a man is with his pants down around his ankles."

The cleric took a closer look at the mechanism for the portcullis. "I wonder if this could be used as a diversion of some sort. If Brother Hawthorne was here, he'd probably know."

Considering Elabeth's suggestions Rizolla responded,"I think it would be better to subdue them in here and and slip out. If we were to open a hole in the outer wall of this room we could make ourselves invisible and fly over the walls to scout around some. They likely won't suspect anything if they think their buddies are busy screwing us and give us some time to deal with some of the guards and maybe the ballista." She raised one eyebrow as she asked, "Just how far are you willing to let the guards go with us before taking them down?"

Elsbeth sighed, "After the unpleasantness with my husband, I swore I'd never be a victim again. But I understand this may be necessary so it's my choice. However, they seem eager enough. It should be fairly easy to get their pants down without it having to go much further. My hair ties can be used as bindings in a pinch, at least for their hands and their pants can be used as gags. All we need to do is apply the right grapple to the right body part and they should be compliant."

I never thought I'd be writing about grappling a penis.

Action 1

Eirik listened to Rob’s report in silence. ”I have to admit, the people here take their duties more seriously than I had assumed. I expected guards stationed in a remote citadel that has not had to defend against serious assaults in who knows how long to be pretty jaded and bored, but these people seem to be working hard. And if there are this many people patrolling the perimeter and stationed in the outer citadel, there are sure to be plenty more inside the keep’s inner sanctum.”

Action 2
When Lacius returned with Horatio she listened to the men speaking and eyed the man brought to use her body. This was will be all to easy, she thought. And beckoned towards the man invitingly, "Come on big boy, is that a sword in you breeches or are you just happy to see me?" She gave him a coquettish smile and backed towards the wall as she waited for him.

Are these two wearing their armor and weapons? If so what do they have on them?

They are 'off-duty' and so are unarmed and unarmored. They expect you to be swooning at being able to bed such 'qualified' soldiers.

You have all been subjected to a pretty thorough search, your papers checked out, and so they are really not expecting trouble.

oh, and how much control over them when setting up the scene do we have before attacking?

All control to you. Keep it PG-13 (my kids may be reading the game). :)

Only go up until your actions in Round 1 and I will take over from there.

I hope I've made it clear enough that these are elite soldiers so don't expect these guys to be like your typical 'town guard'.

K, will do.
Rizolla let Horatio have some fun roving his hands across her body and kissing as he pleased while she worked on his breeches. When she finally got them ready she was careful to wait until Elsbeth was ready and leaned into Horatio to speak into his ear after nibbling on it. She spoke quietly to him, "There is something you should know Sir," she bit his ear lobe firmly before continuing, "I'm not a devil girl," she whispered as she slid his breeches down his legs, "I'm a dragon girl!" Her whisper turned to a loud bark in his ear and, with his pants down around his legs she chanted a few words with a gesture, electricity wreathed her hand, and she touched him with it.

Surprise round:
shocking grasp: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 125d6 + 10 ⇒ (4, 6, 4, 4, 5) + 10 = 33

Just so you can follow the math in case you question it my bloodline arcana and blood havoc power both allow me to add +1 dmg per die rolled since I have spell focus evocation so it is 1d6+2 per level.

Realizing just how surprised the man was Rizolla gave a vicious laugh and snapped her fingers causing a rod to appear in her left hand. She gestured once more, the magic flowing through the rod as she did, and reached out to touch him again, this time with the tip of the rod.

Free action to retrieve the rod from the glove of storing, full round action to cast shocking grasp while applying the rod of intensify spell, the spell does take effect on my turn unlike a summoning spell or other spells with a 1 round cast would.

intensified shocking grasp: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 118d6 + 16 ⇒ (1, 2, 1, 5, 2, 2, 1, 4) + 16 = 34

Then, faster than almost thought, she reached out and tried to touch him again after one brief word and a quick gathering motion, the rod trying to tap him once more.

Same as before except applying quicken spell. Magical lineage lets me reduce the cost of applying metamagic to a specific spell by 1 to a minimum of 1 letting me cast shocking grasp quickened with a 4th level slot.

quickened intensified shocking grasp: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 78d6 + 16 ⇒ (5, 4, 3, 6, 2, 1, 1, 3) + 16 = 41

Wow, those were the most atrocious attack rolls, the only thing that might save them is the fact that they are touch attacks and these guys are just not expecting to be attacked, well all but that last one anyway.

So, at the end I used up 2 uses of the rod leaving me with one, 2 1st level slots, and a 4th level slot. Didn't go quite like I'd hoped but it could have been worse. If my guy died somehow before the quickened spell then consider the quickened one not cast as I'd have no target for it this round, just let me know.

Ok so they are not that elite. The first two spells had him so no need to waste that quickened spell.

Let's see how Elsbeth does.

Lol! Well, in their defense, they had no weapons, no armor, and were flat footed against a sorceress who is built to deal large amounts of damage. If they hadn't been flat footed at least this might have been a whole other ball game. That also took a third of my heavy damage for the day since I can only use the rod twice more.

Male Human Monk (unchained) 11

Whoa. All them damage. Colour me impressed. We boys need a couple o' chew-toys for ourselves so we can try to salvage a few bits and pieces of our manhood by going all medieval on them. Can't wait for dinner time and the food delivery ;-)

Elsbeth will definitely need Rizolla to finish off Lacius...

When Lacius spoke Elsbeth thought, You are definitely making this easier on me. Homely? You're definitely not endearing yourself to anyone.

She playfully swats his hands away from trying to take off her clothes. "Be patient or you may not get to see my wild side." Instead she reaches for his pants and says, "Ladies first." She brushes against him teasingly as she undoes them and lets them drop to the floor. She then kisses him soundly while letting her hands move purposefully downwards, exploring thoroughly. She catches Rizolla's eyes across the room and knows its now or never, especially since Lacius is getting more insistent on getting her clothes off. Breaking the kiss she says, "You shouldn't have taken my things." With that she brings her knee up sharply into his swollen groin and then head butts him. He falls to the floor, doubled over in pain. She flips him over onto his stomach, puts her knee in his back, and holds his arms behind him which automatically pushes his face into the floor.

Not sure what rolls to make because I don't think there are specific rolls for that but I guess I'll give you two CMBs

CMB: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
CMB: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14

Since Rizolla handled hers so well, she should be able to help Elsbeth after.

I was thinking unarmed strike for non-lethal damage + STR bonus.

Where's a monk when you need one? :)

I thought you had memorized 'silence'? You only the scroll of silence?

I intend to recap later today.

she has muffle sound memorized but only a scroll of silence. But if she casts then he gets an AoO, not?
