Since I mentioned Helix Warrior earlier, how does the 'not widespread' genetic engineering setting rule work with the class? Would you prefer I stay away from it or would military applications be part of the exception to the rule?

I like that gravity engineering isn't a thing- I've been imagining zero or low gee combat and am kind of looking forward to it.

Helix Warrior will be fine when we get to Advanced. Sorry not to have answered these questions earlier.

Definitely still interested.

I figure a Helix Warrior would have been designed by a large organization with a focus on combat, so that says Occupation:Military to me. "Special Cases Group" also sounds like the opening scene of Aliens to me, with all the Marines waking up on the Sulaco, so Military works there too.

For anybody who needs an online resource, this is the most user friendly one I've found so far: http://www.d20resources.com/index.php It's got d20 Modern, Future, and Arcana, which is better than most of the linkified ones out there.

Scarab Sages

I've got several of the books, so I'm good on references. For my occupation, I went with Technician, if I remember correctly. Would that work?

Here's a question for Shady or anyone familiar with Future. There are several advanced ammunition types from PL6 on up, but they're all Ballistic and the last Ballistic ranged weapon is the OICW assault rifle from PL5. To use those advanced ammo types do you just give your PL8 PC an OICW and that ammo or assume there's some kind of Ballistic equivalent to the Pulse Rifle?

This looks like it would be a houserule unless I'm missing something.

Do you have Future Tech? That one has rules for adding gadgets to old weapons to make them useful once again at higher Power Levels, representing advances in old technology, like how an assault rifle is an advancement building on the first single-shot rifles.

There's also the fact that, for every power level below the current one your item is, it knocks 2 of the PDC. So something like a Magnum Revolver from PL 5 could concievably see use with the Increased Stopping Power gadget all the way up in PL 8. In PL 8, that particular combination is PDC 19(+1), and deals 3d8 damage. Not so shabby compared to a Laser Pistol from PL 7, which is PDC 15(+2) and deals 2d10 fire damage.

Plus, as you note, it takes Ballistic ammunition.

There's also some Ballistic PL6 ranged weapons in Future Tech. The Charge Rifle in particular is pretty good. It deals 2d10 damage, S/A, and has a 150ft. range increment, which is nice. Slapping Increased Stopping Power on it gets expensive though, at PDC 30(+1), so a pulse rifle is probably a better bet, even if the range increment is only half, and it's impossible to get different ammunition types.

Also, the Rail Gun from PL 7 in Future is Ballistic, and has the best damage you're likely to get on a semi-automatic weapon.

I was planning on picking up that one in particular for myself.

Is there any chance of starting the game off at third level instead of fifth? It'd make the 'no advanced classes at game start' rule fit a lot more organically than it does at present.

If not, then that's fine, I just figured I'd ask.

At any rate, I'm planning on a Fast Hero into Psionic Agent from Urban arcana. Also with levels of Psionic Assassin, if we turn out to reach such a high level eventually.

I'd be OK with that as well, again if everyone else is.

I'm going to kick off the Discussion thread - I suggest all 4 of you check in there with the aliases you are planning to use for the game. I'll continue to advertise for additional players on here - I'd prefer to get 5 or 6 in total if we can.

Scarab Sages

So those of us with characters already made are in? Just want to clarify. And I like starting at level 5, though I suppose it wouldn't be too hard to de-level a couple levels.

Yes, I think the list is (factoring for multiple aliases):

TwelvePointFivePercent
Jazzming
Karlprosek
Katrinn Helgunnr

... with two spare slots left, potentially.

And I'm easy on the starting level, and can craft accordingly, it's just a case of getting agreement. At any rate I'd suggest the above 4 move to the discussion thread.
