Male Human Gamemaster

Hello everyone! If you haven't finished your character sheet, please do that as soon as possible. Double-check your calculations as well as hyperlink as many feats, traits, spells, and special qualities as you can, it will help me approve those items.

This thread will be the location for heavy OOC discussion. I don't mind a few sentences of OOC on the IC thread, but try to keep the IC thread reading as a story, with the OOC thread being the behind-the-scenes talk.

Pazio has this new nice system of using tabs for links between IC and OOC, in case you're wondering about the top of the page.

I have found that using Google Documents for Equipment spreadsheets has allowed me to "share" what I have in equipment with other players via a link on my character page, if you have trouble keeping up with your equipment. This Adventure Path, at least in the first module, requires the players to keep track of various important items like food. So I will ask someone to the the party record keeper for that.

If no one objects, this will be a "XP-less" campaign, since each book is meant for specific levels. I will tell you, the players, when you reach each level in the adventure.

With the number of people we have, as well as the type of characters we have, we have pretty much maxed out the challenge rating. Therefore some encounters may be somewhat harder than you thought until I get a good feel for the group.

I'm not your usual "by the book" GM, even though we are playing a book. While most encounters/goals/challenges cannot be changed, I'm not going to insist you try to survive 3 weeks in the jungle with no equipment, no treasure, and a ridiculous timeline worthy of The Mummy Returns with 1,000 undead pygmy warriors chasing you. I'm not here to kill everybody unless they act really, really stupid. I'd rather have everyone live to 20th Level and retire to what they wanted to be. They just have to earn it.

I'm a roleplayer, so IC interaction is key. This Adventure Path requires a lot of Diplomacy, and I'm big on cross-training into skills you wouldn't care about if this was a video game. It isn't.

Since this is a Play-by-Post (PbP), please include hyperlinks for skill rolls, spells and powers, and any weird stuff. If you can't link it, use a spoiler tag. This will help me approve your actions. If you post and go over Pazio's one-hour Edit limit, just post again. I do go back and edit quite often, so re-read posts if needed as you write!

But remember, the objective here is to have fun! Postings will be daily, a little slower on the weekends. Please post here if you have a business trip or other reasons you might not post for several days.

If you need to e-mail me for any reason, my e-mail is jeremy, at, jeremyhpace dot org. Only if absolutely needed.

GM question: do the players mind if I roll their initiative before battle? In order to speed up combat.

I see no problem with this...

Gm Pace:

Thank you for the honor I really thought I was not going to make it here.

Female Catfolk Rogue(Scout/Knife master) 1

I have no problem with you rolling initiatives. I to am happy to be selected. Lets see how the party reacts when they first meet me, it will be interesting to say the least lol.

Edit: First post is up, hope its okay.

Male Half-Orc Verdant Sorcerer (1)

i have no problem with you rolling initiative either

Male Human Gamemaster

Adriano, Shevan, and Ashana - I need to know the exact city you boarded the Jenivere from. It's important to the plot, and there could be Dire Consequences if you don't put it on your character sheet and tell me here.

Male Human Aegis 1

No problem with you rolling initiative either.

Male Half-Elf (Varisian) Cleric of Sarenrae 1

No problem you rolling initiative, either.

I will put up an IC post tonight, when I have a better internet connection.

Sorry Pace its been a busy time for me. I've been trying to complete a 40 page background check paperwork for a police department application. Working on background and such now.

No problem with you rolling init.

1.
Why are you aboard the ship?: Shevan is trying to escape the corruption and decadence of Cheliax. He feels that the Mwangi Expanse would be a good area to attempt to create a new life.

2.
At which port did you board or are you a stowaway?: Westcrown

3.
What will your character contribute to the group?: Ranged fighting, healing

4.
What are your plans for your character mechanically?: Divine Hunter Paladin straight for now.

5.
What are your plans for your character from a story-perspective?: Shevan is trying to distance himself from his heritage and background. He has a true noble heart that beats in the chest of a monster's body.

Appearance: Shevan wears studded leather armor that is good for movement. He dresses in simple clothes suitable for exploring in greens and browns. He has long black hair that is kept loose (he can't tie it back anyway because it won't stay tied.) His hair is constantly moving as if being blown by a soft breeze, a mark of his Div ancestor. The only other notable feature is that his irises will occasionally swirl as if being blown in a dust storm.

Male Human Gamemaster

I think Noel said she works 3rd shift, so we may not see her until tomorrow morning.

Ashana, I know it's hard for a Catfolk, but can you find an avatar picture?

yes. I work the dead-shift here at UPS so I can't post at night pretty much. so if I don't post after eight o'clock this is why. funny now that I think about it I will be always the last to post :(

Gomennasai!

Male Human Gamemaster

A word on post timing....

If you want to post multiple times a day, I don't mind. We don't need to "go around the table" and let everybody post before the 1st person speaks again. That being said, unless it's a weekend, we do have a "24-hour rule" on posts. If it doesn't make sense to post (like our Stowaway or if the party is split up (horrors!)), just give us an OOC blurb to indicate to us you're still alive.

(Ashana, sorry for keeping you quite literally in the dark, but you chose the option! :) So unless you have a desire to join Jask Derindi in the brig, just sit back in the Plot Train. I'll make it up to you, story-wise, later.)

Yeah I'll try and find something later its just a matter of scowering the site's picture archive. And don't worry I might try to get brave and go visit Jask though I don't think I have much time.

Male Half-Orc Verdant Sorcerer (1)

I just want to saay BOOYAH on untrained diplomancy. :)

Male Human Gamemaster

(The Plot Train conductor sees a passenger opening the main door as if to stick his head out. That fool could derail us! Get us off track! the conductor thought to himself. "You there! Stop that! Get back in your seat! What are you doing, man?" he called out roughly, getting out his billy stick.)

This is going to be fun.

Male Half-Orc Verdant Sorcerer (1)

who me? now i want to poke around to find the captains cargo. would this be a bad move?

Why not
the worse that could happen to you is getting thrown overboard :)

Male Human Gamemaster

In this reality the Jenivere, a merchant ship, has one main sail and two smaller sails for three masts total. The hold is divided much like the upper decks - bow, midships, and aft. Midships is where the weighted stones for ballast are kept, with not much cargo, since all the ship's equipment and food is stored here. The bow hold is the smallest for non-secret items. The aft hold is a proper wooden deck above the draft stones, providing a flat surface to store barrels and crates of stuff that can't get damp. The stevedores have reign over the bow and midship holds, cramming every spare inch with different-sized cargo; the aft is the Captain's domain. This is the reason the aft hold has wide stairs while the other two have rope ladders to save space. Each hold is divided to keep seawater from going from one side of the ship to the other in case of a leak or breach.

So, yes, I was prepared for multiple Stowaways! Our catgirl lucked out since she was in a barrel meant for the aft hold instead of a cramped crate meant to be stuffed into one of the other two. Other Stowaways would have been found in days. The ship's cat wanders from hold to hold, and is skittish to everyone but the First Mate.

Male Human Aegis 1

Still here, just eating this thin soup.

Male Human Gamemaster

That's gotta be the World's Biggest Bowl of Soup, Phillip, or else it got cold. You got your answer to your question. Unless you need to go back a few hours, we've moved on.

Male Human Aegis 1

No, I don't need time back. I just like savouring soup.:P

In all honesty, I didn't realize so much time had passed.

Male Human Gamemaster

Well! Let's move the plot a bit further and get to...wait. What's Varash Ironskull doing now?

Female Catfolk Rogue(Scout/Knife master) 1

Thats just what I was thinking...

Male Half-Orc Verdant Sorcerer (1)

pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

Male Human Aegis 1

GM Pace, regarding Trait:

I've thought about it, and would it be feasible to assume that the cargo would be on my person? I was thinking possibly a small shipment of some gems or some such would be reasonable, of a predetermined weight, so that the buyer would know that the messenger had not stolen any. These could be some gems that aren't found anywhere but X location, at Y depth, etc. Would that be reasonable? If this is acceptable, Sleight of hand to hide it.1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23

Male Human Gamemaster

for Phillip:

That's fine. We'll see if your cargo makes it all the way to Eleder. :) Put it on your character sheet.

still here enjoying this day with R&R.

Male Human Aegis 1

Profile updated for you, GM Pace.

Male Human Gamemaster

We're just waiting on Varash and Ashana playing hide-and-seek. I'd much prefer to move on with the plot...

I ran.... and left the most important person to me behind in the Grand Stream.

while we wait....:)

Male Half-Orc Verdant Sorcerer (1)

if you want to move on, you can assume i find nothing important and move on, i was just filling time, trying to unravel the mystery
:)

Male Human Gamemaster

I'm not that heavy-handed, Varash. You can do what you want in the plot. I don't want to post a long paragraph how you find nothing when you're about to post walking down the stairs.

TIME LIMIT: If anyone wants to do anything before the celebratory dinner, do it before Wednesday, 02 Nov, at 0800 EDT, because that's when I'm posting the dinner activities. Time to get this Plot Train moving again.

Male Human Gamemaster

For those who replied Friday night...

for Shevan:

Shevan, no complaints on your roll. But would it kill you to hyperlink your paladin to the PRD and the Div/Tiefling to the OGC? :) Hero's Lab is okay, but I love clicking to see where people got ideas from.
Nice pic, by the way.

for Noel:

Noel, you're counting your Fortitude check twice. It should just be 15 + 2 = 17. The same for your hit points; no CON bonus means your HP is 10, not 14.
Tessara's roll uses her dragon stats, which should be only when in her dragon form. Because she's cursed, her stats are "10" for each (even being an elf), or +0 on her roll for a straight 13. She'll get to use her dragon stats in her Copper Dragon form. You need to put "Copper Dragon" somewhere in Tessara's stats, by the way, you don't have it. She has the special quality of Change Shape, so once her curse is broken, she can keep her dragon stats in any form.
Since you made Tessara an elf, she will get all elven special abilities like low-light vision and immunity to sleep spells and such. It's part of the curse. Make a note of it on your character sheet so we can both remember. Tessara also qualifies for any language, weapon, or shield an elf can handle.

for Phillip:

Phillip, you need a Fort/Ref/Will stat block in there somewhere on your character sheet. Otherwise, just keep adding to your character sheet.

And yes, nice save. Too bad the...poison...was in nearly all the food and the wine, so you had to be making multiple saves after it built up...

for Adriano:

Adriano, good roll, excellent character page. I can hope for some background and hyperlinks later.

Just waiting on Varash and Ashana! Well, Varash - Ashana has opened herself up to some interesting roleplay before we get the plot moved to the first scene.

Male Human Aegis 1

GM Pace:

Yeah, I noticed that when I made the save, and I went to change it, but I got distracted by something or another. I'll fix it now.

Male Human Gamemaster

I've got a working weekend coming up, followed by a business trip. But I have a laptop with a Verizon mobile hotspot, so I should be able to log in and play along, at least in the evenings. Just in case I cannot post much for the next six days.

I've noticed that the Pazio boards don't do "sentence and paragraph" separation any more. I'm having to put dots or periods in to separate the paragraphs, especially on spoilers.

Male Half-Elf (Varisian) Cleric of Sarenrae 1

GM_Pace:
I will work on a expanded background and start hyperlinking the Character sheet this weekend.

I'll start hyperlinking also.

Hyperlinked a few feats and abilities. Will finish the rest as time permits.

Male Human Gamemaster

Waiting on Phillip to respond! Will he:
1.) go for his gear, and the other sea scorpion
2.) wake up other people so other characters can have some interaction
3.) wait until he is surrounded by the sea scorpions while everyone else is still passed out

I love Choose-Your-Own Adventures.

Don't worry, Ashana, if nothing happens by Monday I'll let you wake up and rescue everyone on the beach!

Male Human Aegis 1

Just posted. Sorry for the wait, I was away from my computer for a few hours.

Male Human Gamemaster

I am surprised no one awake is getting the others up. There's a few really low rolls in the crowd and some of you could sleep a lot longer if nobody gets you up.

GM Pace:

Been working 2 shifts these past few days forgive me for my sudden disappearance.

wow OK then I will get that all updated then. hopefully I will catch up too.

Male Half-Orc Verdant Sorcerer (1)

i plan to attempt to wake up the two next to me on my next action.

GM Pace:

sigh I am sorry to waste your time but....
real life with us getting close to peak it kinda been pushing for me and I have little time in my pay to post...so instead of me making no posts for next week or so...I will pull myself out of this PBP. so anyways thank you for all the story ideas and taking me up at least :) sigh...
so anyway I wish you and the group happy journeys. thank you again lol...

Male Human Gamemaster

for Noel:

Noel, please don't leave! E-mail me at jeremy at jeremyhpace dot org if you can. I can "pause" your character for a while, if you want. I can also GM-PC your character until you get back.

Male Human Gamemaster

Phillip, good points, we'll use them the next time you use Acrobatics to escape a pile-on.

Waiting for Varash!

Ashana, you're still knocked out in the ship's cargo hold.

Sorry about the plot train, folks, obviously things would be faster with everybody awake and mobile, but considering you'll all been poisoned and/or knocked out, this is the dramatic opening to the Adventure Path.

GM Pace:

I just did not want be a burden to you i mean really this week so far been crazy lol but if I can make it through this week then I be back on a normal schedule so it you want me that much sure why not....
are you sure i am not putting too much stress on ya?

Male Human Gamemaster

for Noel:

I'd rather keep as many people as possible, Noel. It's supposed to be a game where races, classes, and things not allowed by "only the book" GMs are allowed. I don't want you to quit and never have the option of your Dragonrider class again.

Male Half-Orc Verdant Sorcerer (1)

i would like to cast color spray as a standard action getting as many creatures as possible, and use my move action, to walk/kick/etc over as many sleepers as possible to get them up.

i think i can get 6, 4 and 3. and then walk over aerys jask and ishiro

Male Human Gamemaster

Nice try, Varash, but the problem with translating a fan-spread cone to 5-foot grid squares is that you lose some flexibility. There's also a "Gotcha!" to the spell you're about to realize.

I will say that your actions manage to take the heat off of Phillip, which is where the sea scorpions were about to follow, and onto yourself, giving him a breather in the fight.
